    hernia development

I had the same thing. I was constantly throwing up due to the hernia. My surgeon just corrected the hernia and made the diaphragm hole smaller without a bypass revision. . My problem now is that I’m struggling with that stuck feeling and feeling a bit nauseous. My surgery was just 2 weeks ago, so still figuring it all out
  2. Banded in Ft Worth in 2012- I just met with a new surgeon yesterday after having a swallow study. My esophagus is expanding causing reflux, etc. He unfilled the band and set me up for a follow up swallow study and follow up with him on Aug 15th. We talked about options. Do I want the sleeve or bypass? With revision do they make you wait months and months? Thanks...

    Lap band failure

My surgeon advised that the best option was RNY. Less risk of reflux. Less risk of more damage/ issues to the oesophagus. I also know a lot of people that have revised to a sleeve or had a sleeve as an initial surgery who have not lost or have had massive regains. I decided to go with my surgeons recommendation and had my revision in Jan. I am very happy. My diet is much healthier than with the band, I don’t spend hours in restaurant toilets throwing up and I have reload the weight I gained and am sitting at goal.

  5. I am in the same position as you - all food I eat is sliders, noodles, mashed potatoes, etc. carbs that go down easy so that I don't have to deal with throwing up or getting stuck. The pain is unreal! It's like literally being stabbed in the chest until that food passes through. I went three years every month for adjustments having them stick me with the needle, take some Fluid out, put some fluid in, lose 2lbs this month, gain 3lbs next month, this is the normal process, blah, blah, blah. I finally had enough! After all, I was paying $50 a month in copays to be told I was losing less weight than I would have on weight watchers! The band was NOTHING like I was told it would be. I am hoping that the sleeve will be what it is said to be. From what I am hearing from those that have gotten band to sleeve revisions, the sleeve is what they thought the band was going to be like. That would be a miracle for me! We have our surgery dates so close together, I hope that we can stay close on our journies and support eachother through this!!
  6. Hi All! Got home from 3 days and nights in the hospital this morning after undergoing a band to sleeve revision on Tuesday. I had some pretty adverse reactions to the pain meds...I'd have been better off sticking with Tylenol!! Anyway, I have done well...no nausea while in the hospital and am still sip, sip, sipping. Am going to try my first post surgery Protein shake for dinner. A few questions: 1) Did anyone come home with a drain? I had one on my stomach side that was removed this morning. Had a fatty tumor (lypoma) removed Tuesday, too. It ended up being quite an ordeal and I still have a tube in it. I knew it was big, but it ended up the size of a small loaf of bread and was sending fingers down to the major muscles! Wow! 2) When did you guys start drinking shakes? 3) On returning home did you go straight to 60 grams of protein per day? 4) All suggestions are welcome! So happy to join the Sleeve Society! Cheers~ Barb

    Love the Sleeve

How are all the revisions doing with weight loss now that you can eat things you couldn't with the band? I am at a total standstill....I lost 15 imediately after the revision, but have gained it back and not losing anymore. Is anyone else experiencing this? Nancy
  8. This thread post gives me hope. I had an upper gi done and was told my sleeve is stretched. I have an appointment this week to discuss a revision. My new doctor wants to do bypass and my insurance covers revision. I'm only worried about whether or not they will pay for mine because my bmi is 31. I'm hoping they say it's medically necessary and cover it.

Anyone revised from sleeve to bypass

I am getting revised from the sleeve 4/20. Severe gerd and esophageal dismotility. I have been wondering the same thing. Did your doctor give you any idea on weight loss? I know it will be slower, I kinda just want to loose the bit I have put on because of the limitation on what I can eat.

Micki, How did the port revision go?
  12. I happen to run across this on my surgeon's website and wanted to share. This is for people who have had weight regain after bypass. It appears that this is less invasive than another revision surgery, but can reduce the size of pouch and outlet. Hopefully, we all will have ZERO problems forever and be compliant, and never have to go this route, but... it can happen and we need to know what options are out there for help if it does. Read on There is also a great animation video on the right to see how it can fix this problem. http://apolloendo.com/procedures/outlet-pouch-reduction/

    Skin surgery/body lift?

@@Marissa.Ann.C Most insurances DO NOT cover plastics. Some will cover a pannilectomy if you have a lot of back up doctors appointments that show you have been dealing with infections. Other than that it is out of pocket. Prices vary by city. I live in Pewaukee, WI. So far I had a brachioplasty (arm lift) in July - outpatient so I went home a few hours after. the cost was 6500.00 and it included the compression garments and pretty much everything. I did spend a small fortune on ice packs both reusable and disposable. 2 weeks from yesterday I will be having a full abdominalplasty which includes muscle repair, a breast lift with augmentation - I have chosen to stay in the hospital for the first two nights since hubby works and I cannot be alone. The total cost was 17,200.00 and includes everything. In fact, she is also doing a small revision on my left arm near the elbow where I have a bit of a crease - we are going to try some more lipo of the elbow to see if that helps. I will say plastics is expensive and painful but so worth it. I have a lot of loose hanging skin that pulls on my back and I have back issues to begin with. I also get redness and rubbing that can be painful and could cause infection and had. My insurance covered none of it. I ended up taking a extra project to pay for most of my plastics so far and they do have financing options available at some plastic surgeons. It is best to do your homework and make sure you use a board certified plastic surgeon who has worked on people with massive weight loss. Good luck on your surgery! It really is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am so glad I did it. I was one of those people that did not think all the extra skin would matter so much. For me, having bypass was about getting healthy. I had a lot of comorbitities, but the more weight I lost, the more confident I began to feel about myself to the point that I want my body to look pretty good again. When i was young (BK....before kids), I was one hot mama. The more weight I put on, the worse I felt about myself and began hiding my body. Now, I want to show it off! I am 53 and look pretty great and more importantly I feel fantastic! Best of luck to you! I hope all goes well and you are on your way to a whole new life.
  14. Hi mom2sparky, I am wondering if you got approval for your revision based on the GI results. I have a similar situation. Thank you.
  15. today is one year anniversary of the revision from band to sleeve. height is 6'1 and weight 183 today. i was 226 day of surgery with a low BMI, I have dropped the weight and now I'm under the BMI guidelines for my height and weight. wanted to inquire with all of you about any further weight reduction after hitting the one year mark . Will this be it for me? Or is more weight reduction even possible. any feedback is appreciated.
  16. Not only is is possible, it's very common. It's one of the main reasons I chose bypass in the first place, honestly. So many people have issues or do not get to their goal with the sleeve. Then again, it works perfectly for some people. If you are not happy with where you are, then a revision may be just right for you.

    Bypass or sleeve

Yes, I am going through the revision process now. But they are still making me meet all requirements past the 2 year mark and even with it being medically necessary. My sleeve is twisted.... So frustrating

    Bypass or sleeve

Here is the thing, if you get heartburn or reflux at all the sleeve can make that much worse very quickly. You must do your research and quickly. I have read so many posts from people that made the decision to go with the sleeve even though it was recommended to do bypass and now they are having revisions to bypass anyway. I originally had planned to go sleeve and after my doctor recommended bypass I was devastated. Then I researched the heck out of it and came to the conclusion that I was only going through this once if I could help it. I went with bypass and have not regretted it once. I can eat anything I want, have never had dumping syndrome, have exceeded my weight loss expectations. I was removed off all heartburn and reflux medication within one month post op and have never had a single episode of heartburn/reflux/herd. Good luck, and please do your research quickly.
  19. I was banded in January 2007. The first time it came up was probably March or April of 2007. I had revision surgery in August, which was a cinch. But...it came up AGAIN. I haven't even bothered to go for another revision because I have only had 2 fills, and have reached my goal. I am starting to reconsider though because I experience significant pain when I work out with my trainer.
  20. What was your approval process like with Aetna? I'm just starting my journey to get rid of this awful band giving me reflux and only lost 25lbs since 2008. Were u made to do a 3 month diet again? I would love to hear your approval stories and how long it took you!
  21. I'm a band to sleeve revision. It's too early for me to talk about long term results but I have a neighbor who had the bypass and has gained a lot of her weight back. Both options are not going to lose the weight for us - we need to take advantage of this wonderful tool that has been given to us

    TODAY IS THE DAY

I didn't read your thread until the day after your surgery. I hope everything went well. I can completely relate to your nervousness going into the surgery date. I am exactly 2 weeks out from my band to sleeve revision. Unlike you, I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. I am only about 15# from goal and so the doctor didn't require a pre-op diet. Lucky me. I still remember how hard it was when I had my band surgery. So far, my sleeve is SO SUPERIOR to my band. It is sooooo nice to get up in the morning and not be so tight that I can't even drink. It is so nice not getting food stuck all the time. It is so nice not having acid reflux. It is so nice to be able to eat meat again. It is so nice not having it hurt to eat. The list goes on and on. My recovery has been so easy. Less pain than with the band placement. I didn't even need any pain meds when I got home from the hospital. My hospital stay was 3 days. My doctor is careful about leak checks. I hope your recovery is as simple as mine and that you enjoy the sleeve over the band. Like I said, I'm only 2 weeks out, but so far, so good! Get some rest and give us an update when you feel up to it. Shelli

    Pre-op Diet With Revision?

I did a modified phase 2 south beach diet because I am diabetic. If I wasn't I would have to do phase 1. I was a revision 4/30/13. I did liquids 1 week and now on puréed foods. Everyone's nut is different. I would say watch what you eat so it doesn't bite you in the butt.
  24. briefs199

    Wondering

I was banded 11/2014. I was 315lbs before pre op diet and am now 237. I don't exercise so this is all my eating changes. I also had a last minute "maybe I should be getting the sleeve" moment and even made an appointment with my surgeon to ask if I should change. Now if you want to get the sleeve you should. I'm not bashing anyone's WLS decision. But if you have done your research and have made an intelligent decision to get the band don't listen to the hype of other people who don't believe in the band anymore or who had to revise. Because there are plenty of people who revise from sleeve to bypass too! I asked my dr what do I need to do to be success with the band. He said it's easy (my doctor has had a band for over 10 years himself so he is in the best position to tell me). 1. You have to eat slow 2. Show up for follow up appointments the first year at least once a month. It put my mind at ease. I could do that! And I have done that and have been successful. I have had no complications. I have learned to slow down and have not had any stuck issues in months. Read as much as you can and go on you tube and read here and then you will see what is right for you and your personality and talk to your doctor about your concerns. Good luck! I was a wreck right before my surgery. That's totally normal.
  25. The doctor described it as a tear. But I looked at the films from the endoscopy and to me it looked like the band eroded into the stomach. The hole was exactly at the bottom of the band. Also, it was not minor. The test results showed a 60+% tear. Another 40% and it would have gone completely through. I have gained 50 pounds back since 2008, so I am not doing a good job of maintaining the weight loss. Regarding revision surgery, I am very reluctant to do it based on the lap band experience. My husband was extremely upset and angry at the whole circumstance. He said he loves me does not care about my weight and is very against me getting surgery again. I sheltered the kids from much of the whole experience, but they did see me throw up numerous times and visited me in the hospital every day back in October 2008 when I got the band out, and was in the hospital for a week. I personally would love to do it again, but do not want to put my kids and husband through any more anguish. I am very blessed to have a family that loves me. I continue to try other weight loss methods, but to date, have found nothing that has worked. I keep praying and remain optimistic that the right answer for me will come one day. I will never give up on my efforts to get to and maintain a healthy weight.
