Hello
My guess would be to add calorie dense food such as nuts, good fats, etc...but you may get a better response or a more tailored respone from the main boards https://www.bariatricpal.com/discover/unread/?&stream_unread_links=1&stream_classes[IPS\forums\Topic]=1

Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass
butterisnotacarb replied to NYCGirl9269's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not a psychiatrist but Vyvanse is slow release Dexedrine or Dextroamphetamine. I was put on Dexedrine when diagnosed with bad ADHD at 14 and no other ADHD med, including Vyvanse, has worked for me since. I totally get that part. You'd have to talk to your doc about Dexedrine (the capsules are way better than the tablet for me personally) and everyone is different. Since its not extended release, I take it twice a day. Just thought I'd mention it as an alternative to Vyvanse that may work with the bypass. Good luck to you! -
I stumbled across a YouTuber called Frankenbelly who had her gastric bypass reversed due to terrible complications. She also has a blog about it: https://inthelifeofmyfrankenbelly.wordpress.com/ Keep in mind that her gastric bypass surgery was 14 years ago, and complication rates have decreased a lot since then. Reversal surgery is very rare and I would imagine that most surgeons wouldn't even consider it unless there were very compelling medical reasons.

The OP is referring to bypass not an a VSG....its in the thread header and is posting in the bypass subforum.

If it helps, through research and my medical friends bypass is the way to go. That is the most popular route. I wish you the best and sorry itโs been difficult

I had a sleeve with GERD too, and my surgeon in the first appointment had LINX as an option. Having read about the trouble lapbanders have, with esophageal erosion and slippage and other nasty complications I was not enthusiastic about a foreign body being placed around my esophagus. It turned out I was not a LINX candidate due to other conditions so I revised to bypass.

ChubRub's Plastic Surgery Thread
Darktowerdream replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I just read that a few times because that is the month I had my gastric bypass surgery ... around Easter I was in a bad place my birthday was coming around and the weight was piling on despite every effort to fight it ... I did not think the surgery was going to happen I found out a week before it was scheduled April 29th 2019 and now I cannot believe April this year will be two years??? Has it already been eight months since I had plastics? I am not good with tracking time ... June 14 2020. I still have not worn a swimsuit officially but with the whole Covid thing I havent gone to the pool here and I have chemical sensitivities and not sure I wanted to risk my sensitive skin with chlorine ... I wish they would do salt water pools but they would never convert them ... they are shared pools per condo association. My Mom goes swimming as often as is possible. sorry your post got me thinking (thats dangerous!) probably for the best not to be too active right now. and thankfully the humidity is not too bad right now. took a while for me to be able to venture out for a walk around the nature preserves I love. -
Just out of curiosity, have any of you ever seriously considered having your WLS procedure reversed? If so, did you discuss options with your surgeon? If so, what was his/her response?

Revision due to GERD
Nurse Crystal replied to Nurse Crystal's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the revision on 1/11. I have not lost any weight but I have no heartburn or puking. I was more sore then anything. I can drink normal, in fact I feel like I could eat or drink whatever. I havenโt but I can take drinks of water without any issues and water was a huge problem for me. -
Revision due to GERD
Lola2122 replied to Nurse Crystal's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi there - I had the same issue and am just coming off the revision from sleeve (11/2017), which we did due to the fact that I had terrible GERD. I had my surgery on 1/12/2021, and Iโm struggling with nausea. My physician says I have to figure out my new anatomy and not drink too fast, but Iโm so crazy thirsty its so hard not to constantly obsess about my next sip of water. I pray every day that my swelling goes down and my body will allow me to intake these fluids, however itโs been rough. Iโm interested to watch your journey, as it seems similar to mine. -
Hello, I had the lap band in 2008 and lost 63 pounds. I began to have problems (I.e. vomiting, erosion of the band) and had it removed. Gained back all that I lost and more. In 2020 I had the sleeve and 7.5 months later I have lost 80 pounds and still going. When having a revision my Dr explained that you will lose slower. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Help! 8 months post. All the sudden I'm sick after eating. Anyone else?
MaybeMeow2 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I'm 7.5 months post Bypass and all the sudden I'm miserable. When I eat my stomach instantly bubbles and eventually my bowel starts cramping and I'm stuck on the toilet. If I'm constipated, I'm there until I'm cleared out and liquid diarrhea happens. If I'm not constipated it's just the liquid diarrhea. The catch is I've changed nothing! I'm eating the same foods I've always eaten since 8 weeks post. Low carb high protein. But this happens regardless of intake. It doesn't sound like the symptoms of developing an ulcer which I know can happen around this time. At first I thought maybe I just had a bug. But I'm moving onto the 2nd week of it and have no other symptoms. I eat. My bowels go into hyper drive and I after excruciating cramps I have liquid diarrhea. No new foods. Just new symptoms at almost 8 months post op. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on? I'm at the point now I can't leave the house confidently and I don't want to eat. -
Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

Congrats on your upcoming surgery, I had Bypass on Aug 24th. I don't care for milk but the premier protien shakes are pretty good. The Banana, Caramel, Strawberry, Blueberry and Cookies & Cream are the best in my opinion plus you only need them for about a month then youll be eating mostly regular soft foods then solids gradually. You'll do great ๐ -

Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass
kelly Lake replied to NYCGirl9269's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did A LOT of research on this and I found my best option was R&Y & Im so glad I did it. I wanted the extra restrictive requirements, responsibilities and accountability for attention to my diet requirements. It's quite a commitment either way, a lifelong change to better your health. However R&Y route is a bit more intricate and to go that route does require some discipline and commitments like the taking of supplements for the rest of your life, I don't mind because they don't bother me and I've found affordable ones I like. I lose about 2.7 lbs a week and I have very little that I cannot eat, real sugar and snacking are my 2 nono's.. Dumping syndrome is no joke and makes you feel quite crappy, like the flu but worse and verry sudden, so the knowledge that if you eat too much, too fast, drink with food or the wrong foods you'll feel like absolute crap keeps me in line and accountable as well. I seem to see a lot more ppl getting revisions these days too that had Sleeve vs R&Y (In my opinion) so its really about looking honestly at your personal relationship with food, discipline level and weighing out the pros and cons of each procedure for you Personally. Msg me anytime! -
Severe Pain in legs! 20 wks post R&Y
kelly Lake posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my Gastric Bypass Surgery and Galbladder removal on Aug 24th 2020, just almost 20 weeks ago. I have lost 68 lbs since Surgery and 88 lbs since my heaviest weight in May of 313, Im about 224.4 now. Everything is going along pretty textbook except for 1 thing. I have horrible Aching Continuous Pain in my legs (especially my left leg, outer thigh close to the side of the knee and a lil in the outer calf sometimes. It's not fatigue and I get plenty of all my vitamins and supplements plus I eat a high protein, nutrient rich diet and add electrolites to my 64+ oz of fluids each day. I am having Telemedicine appts with my Surgeon and my Nutritionist today thankfully and I plan to consult them on this but have any of you experienced this? Tylenol muscel creams and some stretching usually helps but I have had nights where they just didn't cut it and it felt like my bones were on fire! I definitely cannot continue to endure this nightly as I have for the last few weeks. I understand that a large quick weightloss can change your gate and how your body carries the weight causing nerves, tendons and muscles to respond this way but Jesus It's awful and it quickly goes away if I get up and walk around. It starts promptly with lying down in bed and persists regardless of position. I have chronic severe back issues that began about 12 yrs ago, My pain & loss of mobility along with weight gain topping me off at 313 lbs (I'm 5 ft. 3") got so severe that I had 7 back surgeries in a 3 yr period that ALL failed. DDD Degenerative Disc Disease, Spinal Stenosis and a some herniated discs prompted my Back Surgeons to declare me officially inoperable, so they along with my Primary Dr. & Counselors recommend I have Bariatric weight loss syrgery & I'm so glad I did! Its very frustrating for Me now tho to have regained about 80% of my mobility and reduced the regular daily & constant pain in my back by about 60% so far only to have this awful pain in my legs at night every freakin night now. I'm losing sleep nightly causing me to be tired all day, get less done, not exercise, be easily irritated in the day, agitated and frustrated. I NEED this to go away and I cannot take any opioid pain meds outside of the required serious post op situations. I am in long term recovery from a physical addiction to pain meds caused by an over prescribing horrible Pain mngmt Dr. Side note: That Pain mngmt Dr. is No longer allowed to practice medicine. Any shared experiences and info is much appreciated ๐ -
Setting Weight Loss Goals
kelly Lake replied to clippergear's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congrats on Bariatric Surgery! I had my Gastric Bypass Surgery and Galbladder removal on Aug 24 2020 and honestly I was discouraged by my initial weightloss because I was comparing my losses to others. I was told to set reasonable obtainable goals for myself to start off and to focus those goals around fluids and protien and never the scale. I am at almost 20 weeks post op and I've lost about 68 lbs so far, 88 lbs since May. I was reminded by my surgeon tbat everyone gained tgeir weight differently so We should expect to lose it differently. I am proud of every singke pound I lose and I have also had weeks where I lost nothing. I will say snacking was the culprit there! Lol.. Just focus on the actions you can control, simple healthy guidelines and see how your body responds to them. No more than once a week weigh ins are best I know my weight can fluctuate due to salt, hormones, time of tge month etc so I don't weigh on my cycle and I shoot for every Sunday evening as a guideline. Feeling Depressed Due to Complications
Sara_Lee replied to Sara_Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, he wanted to switch me to gastric bypass. He made my stomach too small. I also have H pylori, which I don't understand was overlooked. He is a kind man and his aftercare was great, but I still have depression from the whole thing. -
I had the gastric bypass in 2004 lost 100 pounds and unfortunately have gained them back. Iโm looking into getting a revision surgery. Itโs just revising my gastric bypass Iโm not switching to any kind of different weight loss surgery. I would like to know of anyone that has had this same thing done and how much weight did you lose

I have been wanting to do this for a while any info anyone can share

Hello all, I have been out of surgery for about 6 hours, and I am just trying to navigate everything. Most of what they told me at the hospital was when I was too drugged up to comprehend it all. Firstly, I have been sleeping all day, but getting up to walk every 2 hours. How long do these mini walks to avoid blood clots need to last? Is it okay for me to continue sleeping while doing this until I am not tired anymore? I hardly got any sleep last night, because my brain was all over the place. I have also been almost vomiting, which just ends up being a burp. I can't really control it. Is that okay at this point? I am terrified of damaging anything. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass
WishMeSmaller replied to NYCGirl9269's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had hunger and cravings early on with my bypass, but the restriction and religiously following the protein first mantra prevented me from indulging. The physical hunger is unpleasant now with a shaky, nauseous, generally yucky feeling. Head hunger is real and annoying. I mostly choose to not listen to the head hunger. ๐คทโโ๏ธ If you follow the protein first rule, it is almost impossible not to be in ketosis at first. As soon as I had room I added in some carbs though (mostly fruit), as I did not want to stay in ketosis. I canโt stand the body odor when I am in ketosis ๐ I exercise a lot and lost 100% of my excess body weight in just over 6 months. I am in what I will label as the vanity phase, as I work towards my chosen goal of 150 pounds. Ultimately, I actually want to get to 135-ish so I have a little cushion for bounce back. I chose bypass due to a 15 year history of GERD. My surgeon generally pushes for sleeve, but agreed with my desire for bypass due to GERD. I think either surgery would have been effective, but I did not want to have a revision if my GERD got worse. I hope some of that helps. ๐ -
Hypothyroidism and gastric bypass surgery
Deb9386 replied to Castrad01's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi ๐โโ๏ธ - I have hypothyroidism and had the RNY bypass in October 2020. It definitely contributed to my decision to get the surgery as it made it so much more difficult to lose weight by dieting. How's it going since getting surgery? My weight loss has been steady, but not quick! -
Anyone for September 2020?
dorkyfaerie replied to vsg_britt_091420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Revision from sleeve to bypass due to severe GERD and lack of weight loss was 9/19. I'm down almost 74 from the start of the process and almost 50 from the date of the revision. Still having trouble with a bunch of foods, but I otherwise feel great! No GERD since revision to bypass, which is totally wild to me considering I had horrible GERD from the moment I woke up from sleeve surgery.
