  1. I had bypass but I think food reintroduction is the same. Im over 2 months post op and lighter type foods still are my go to. It’s kind of trial and error at first. But cottage cheese, berries, avocados, tomatoes, diced lettuce, lighter cheese & turkey rolls, soups, yogurts are still my go to foods. Chicken is still difficult, so I will boil it in spices/water to soften it up. I can eat a few whole wheat ritz crackers, but other overly crunchy crackers don’t sit great. Peanut butter/almond butter must be in small doses with apple slices or celery.. that’s what works for me. Good luck on the next phase!

    Newbie & 1st stall

Hello, I had bypass 12/17 and hadn’t lost weight since 1/1/2021. Today I finally went down a pound and am *hoping* this “stall” is over... 25 days is a long time, made me feel like a failure, but I’ll remain hopeful. I say “stall” because I know through photos and measurements that I was losing inches. good luck, I hope your stall ends quickly!

We had no specified limits or goals on macros other than protein. If you think about it, this makes sense as if you get in your requisite protein, and your calories are low enough to facilitate the desired weight loss, then it really doesn't matter what your fat or carb macros are (leave that for the fad dieters) as both will be quite low. As an example, if you are following the common 6-800 calorie post op diet (or even 1000,) with 60-80 g protein and totally ignore the other macros, you may be around 50-60g of carbs; does that make any functional difference to the magical 40g (or 30, or20) promoted by some of the popular fad diets? No. Against a typical Western/American diet that is often 300+ g of carbohydrates there numbers may make some sense (primarily that it represents a lot of calories...) but typically for us post op, it doesn't make any difference. Concentrate on learning to eat a healthy, sustainable diet that includes your typical fruits, veg, leaner meats, nuts, whole grains instead of the processed white flour junk, and in general bypass the junk foods (high calorie, low nutrition) and you will be miles ahead of those who agonize over macro counts and ratios (and most likely, a fair bit lighter in the long run. Good luck...
  4. Hi! I am new to this forum. I got my lapband in 2013. My starting weight was 280lbs and I am about 5'3". In the first year I lost 95 pounds and was down to 185lbs. I never had a fill as my doctor never recommended one. In the last 4 years I have shot back up to 225lb as menopause had set in and I started to lag going to the doctor which was no help. I am now 56 years old and can't seem to budge even a couple of pounds off. I have moved out of the state where I had the procedure years ago and had a consult with the local general/bariatric surgeon about 10 months ago. He agreed to remove the lapband and do a revision to bypass. I met remotely with the bariatric nurse and participated in the orientation zoom meeting. I went for my first weigh in as I was told I would have to start from scratch and in the program and work with a doctor or dietitian for 6 months before they would get approval for the surgery which Iwas more than willing to do. I was turned off by the nurses attitude as she never answered my calls to guide me in the right direction to get started so I gave up on the idea. I feel stuck, depressed and frustrated and I don't know where to turn. My insurance has changed and I can't seem to find a doctor to help me. Thanks for listening. When you say you are hungry all the time, do you mean that you don't have restriction? If you eat a protein rich like, say, a chicken breast or a small steak - does that still leave you hungry? Or do you mean you feel head hunger all the time? If you actually feel physically hungry even after eating enough to fill your pouch, then that may be an issue around the restriction. But if it's head hunger, I can certainly relate. The drivers for my eating are rarely actual hunger and often boredom, stress etc. The problem is that this messes up our bodies' ability to recognise the difference between actual hunger and head hunger. I don't know a huge amount about the bypass surgery or any revision surgery, but I think they're unlikely to address the more fundamental issues you might have with food and how you eat.

    Time off work

I can't say about a revision. However, as a first-time Bypasser I originally took two weeks off (from a desk job). I went back on Monday of the third week and was so exhausted I left at noon and took another week off.

Hi everyone hope everyone is doing well as they can in the current pandemic situation. I have been absent for a while, due to personal circumstances, I’m currently facing another difficult situation, and I would really appreciate some advice I had a sleeve in January 2018, (abroad paid privately so have had no support or any help post surgery on return to the UK) initially I lost about 20 kg slowly over the year (from 95kg to 76kg) my weight loss stopped after the first year or so, however 3 years later im now 83 kg hungry all the time and feeling incredibly stressed and emotional and really worried where this is going, I have spoke to a few surgeons abroad, my options are a gastric bypass but im so worried that is this the right decision for me, my sleeve didn’t get me to my target of 55kg from 95kg, I only lost half and slowly regaining I’d really appreciate some advice /help/ experiences of other members Thankyou x

Can I see some before and after pics?

I’m only 2 months out but you can really see a difference in my face! As I progress, I’ll upload a body shot one day. Bypass Nov 17th 2020. 41 lbs down.

The sleeve was out for me too because of GERD. I went in to my appointment knowing I wanted RNY. My doctor actually suggested the DS but I told him I wasn’t ready to go that drastic. I’m glad I stuck with bypass. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be able to get to the size I am now. I’m pretty sure after I get my thighs done I’ll probably be able to wear a size 0P! I love the size I am now!

    Sleeve in your 20s

I'm 26 and just had bypass on the 19th. I have been overweight/obese my ENTIRE life and have struggled with weightloss and my relationship with food and everything else. I have already noticed changes and improvements in my mindset and habits. I want to be able to have kids and be healthy and I ended up having additional health problems that I wanted to try to reverse. Im already so glad and thankful that I got it done. Im feeling much better then I expected to! I dont have any progress pictures yet either, but I can't wait to have them. I wish you all the luck on your journey everyone! Feel free to message me and we can be friends (anyone)! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

  12. Hi, I’m new and I’m have revision from sleeve to bypass upon approval. Can you share how soon you think you went back to work?
  13. I am doing the bypass for my Hiatal Hernia which caused GERD and Esophageal Spasms. Due to my weight the standard procedure is not an option. As my insurance coverage does not cover "weight loss surgery or medications" it was a 10 month multi appeal process to get my surgery approved. I do hope your post surgery is going well! Mine is scheduled for March 10th.
  14. Hi, I am 10 weeks post-op for gastric bypass; performed on November 9, 2020. I have lost a total of 47 lbs. I have a few concerns. For the past two weeks I haven't been able to eat anything without being in excruciating pain. They also removed a Hiatal hernia during my surgery. I never knew I had a hernia, it didn't bother me, and now I'm really hurting. I usually end up making myself vomit when I eat something just to alleviate the pain. My concerns are, am I losing weight because of the surgery, or because I'm unable to eat, or drink. I threw up just after drinking a protein shake and was in pain for hours. I'm ok as long as I don't eat anything, but I don't want to become mal-nutritioned. I take my vitamins daily, but.... I need to get some nutrition. I saw my Dr on Thursday and he has ordered an endoscopy to see if my tube has become constricted (narrowed). If so, they'll open it back up. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, please advise.

Hello there! Congratulations! Has anyone found that you have loss too much weight with the gastric bypass?

    Revision

Wow that is awesome!!!! Thanks for responding. I’m in debates my insurance denied my revision and I’m thinking about hiring an advocate agency to help me fight it. But before I pay them money I’m trying to see how beneficial it will be. I’ve heard different stories about revisions and I would love to check in with you and see how your progress is going if you don’t mind. That sounds exactly what my revision would be if I get it. Thanks again and congrats on your journey

    Revision

I had a revision done on 1/11/21, MD made pouch smaller and did a distal bypass lengthening the common channel to 250 cm. I am still on liquids at this point but have lost 10 lbs. I was on a liver reduction diet 2 weeks prior to surgery and lost 17 lbs on that. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Hello I’m new to the group looking for others advice ....I do know deep down... I have the answer ..l am doing the right thing for myself..I have been going through the steps 1 more to go for gastric bypass as I have very bad reflux... I have 3 family members Who have gone through this 17 years ago one of whom one passed away from Mel nutrition... Throwing up white foam?!?

Hi guys.. I am new to this forum.. I have browsed a few times but never commented. I am 7 weeks post Gastric Bypass. I am having such a difficult time getting down the minimum amount of daily Protein. And on soft foods but mostly every time I try to eat I get that awful foam! Thank you for your post Katie Bug (so cute).
  20. My revision took over 5 hours as well. My doctor said I had a lot of scar tissue. The sleeve the first time only took him 45 minutes. He says this is somewhat common for it to happen. I had lots of post op complications as well. Ive lost a lot though so aside from being nauseas all the time the weight loss was markedly better this time around.
  21. Hi everyone: I know that it may take some time for people to respond but I keep going to the doctor to complain but its not helping. In 2015 I had the sleeve but after losing 50 pounds, within 5 years I gained it all back. In July 2020 I had the bypass. I'm down over 110 pounds which is amazing. The problem is that I'm finding that even foods, that I originally could eat after surgery, I now can't eat. Almost everything I eat makes me nauseous or I get sick. I'm literally dependent on protein shakes and quest bars as my only source of viable nutrition. I was prescribed zofran but so far that hasn't helped at all. Did anyone else have similar experiences? Any guidance, thoughts, tricks or food suggestions would be appreciated. I really have found that all natural proteins make me sick. Thanks, Phil

    Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

I took my drains out last night-what a relief! I’ll be putting on my faja today for the first time-excited to see how my waist looks in it. Will post an update pic after my shower today. My TT, breast, and right arm incisions are looking good. I had a little complication during surgery. When my surgeon started to suture up my left arm my hand started turning dusky-meaning it wasn’t getting good circulation. He ended up leaving about a 3 inch open wound to allow for swelling. It will heal, but will need a scar revision at some point. I’m dressing it each day and it seems to be doing ok so far.

    Revision due to GERD

I'm in the same situation with sleeve in 2013 and now surgeon is suggesting a revision to bypass or LINX to help with the severe GERD. However, they strongly recommend bypass so I'm here to do all the research I can on the experience others have had with similar situations. Would love to have the GERD gone and weight loss would be nice but terrified that bypass will actually be way more painful than I am expecting and have worse side effects like weight gain and dumping and maybe I should just deal with the GERD. Feeling really confused and hoping this forum helps me come to terms with a decision.
  24. Guys I'm so scared and nervous, I know this will be the start of a fantastic journey but surgery terrifies me. Only part I'm worried about is how ill feel when I wake up. Any encouraging thoughts or words would be much appreciated. Wish me luck!! Sent from my SM-G981U using BariatricPal mobile app
