Any WLS peeps from 2014 still around?

I’m here. Sleeved 9/2014. Lost 130 lbs. And gained 15 over the last two years. Still exercising daily, tracking and fighting hard. Working to get at least 10 back off. Currently struggling with lack of energy. Like total lethargy. I can get to gym do about 70% of my normal workout and then I’m spent for the rest of the day. Like can’t function tired. I’ve got a call into my dr cause this just isn’t right. Time for bloodwork. My eating isn’t perfect by a long shot but nothing that should cause this. Has anyone else experienced this? Even though I religiously take all my vitamins. I think it either, Menopause starting Iron, B, or thyroid. But those are just my guesses. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ As long as it’s fixable 🤞🤞 Hope everyone else is doing great. Still do grateful for my tool.

    Dehydrated And Low Blood sugar

You need to drink even though you aren't hungry or thirsty. I forced myself to drink every time there was a commercial on TV or someone on TV took a drink. I also set goals: Get X ounces in before 10, etc... You may also want to call your surgeons office if you are feeling jittery, etc... Some people have to go get a round of IV fluids if they aren't getting the fluids in they need.
  5. I have lost 10 pounds in 8 days. I’ll take it, hope it keeps falling off quick, I’ve got 70 more to go.
  6. For those who had Robotic Gastric Bypass, how many days did you stay in the hospital including your surgery date? I was told if all goes well and I am scheduled for the surgery in the AM which I am scheduled for 10:30 am, I will be discharged the next afternoon as long as I am keeping fluids down.
  7. It's great to see how everyone is doing. I am one of the few Sleever's that have experienced dumping syndrome. I have had 3 episodes in the past 3 weeks or so. I am trying to do better by eating less and eating slower. With regard to my stats, I had surgery on 12/9/19 and I have lost 34.3 lbs since having surgery. I have lost 43.6 pounds overall. I am currently 163.2 pounds. I am having the most "issue" with my hair loss. I have very curly hair and it makes me very sad to see it falling out in clumps. I know there is nothing I can do about it, especially since my labs were perfect. Still makes me sad though.

I only go to the gym (I’m a stay at home mom to 5,4,3,2yr olds) no one suspects I’m sick- since they see me in the gym at all hours . One spin instructor even made a comment I should teach spin since I’m doing it all the time ... So yes, I give a damn. Someone comments on ianother persons weight loss in front of me and doesn’t say a word about mine ... rant in rant and raves ... drop mic 🎤

      Absolutely.

I think it's a good example for the pendulum coming to the middle after having swayed into the opposite direction first (obese - skinny).

I see so many people on here giving the impression of being down right obsessed.

  11. After being successful for 10 years with the lap band I will be having a revision surgery from band to RNY In early April. The need for revision is like so many others, slipped band and awful GERD that ultimately required deflating and has resulted in my gaining almost all of my pre band weight back. :( My weight struggle had/have a lot to do with the fact that I just simply do not ever feel full. I can eat crazy amounts of food because I just never get a message in my brain that I’m full. The band changed that IMMEDIATELY! I believe that’s why I had such great success, because I knew very quickly if I’d eaten to much or too big of a bite and full was a sensation I finally recognized. As soon as the band was deflated, I went right back to having no sense of fullness and could eat as much and as long as I chose. It’s like I have no shut off valve. My question is this; What does being full feel like after bypass, as in long term, not during the recovery period. Do you know immediately if you’ve taken too big of a bite or haven’t chewed well? Do you stop eating because you know you’re full? As in, “whew I can’t take another bite!” and you don’t even want to, because you feel full! Thanks for any insight!

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

My surgery was 2/10, and this week I GAINED A POUND AND A HALF!!!! I am trying not to overreact; I have been weighing and/or measuring everything; I have met my protein goals every day, my liquids have been between 48 and 60, I am walking every day, slowly trying to gain some stamina. I have bad arthritis in both knees, and I walk several times a day for 10 to 15 minutes, and get up every hour and walk a bit. I went back to work this week, which seemed to make it easier to fall into a rhythm. I track everything on My Fitness Pal, including my vitamins. My calories have ranged from a low of 480 to a high of 632. I am on soft foods, and am eating things like 2 oz. of rotisserie chicken, 2 slices of deli turkey breast with 1 tbsp. of low fat cheddar cheese rolled up in the slices. I have to just keep the faith, but boy is this frustrating!!!!

When did you stop loosing weight?

I am about 10 months out and I am still losing, granted it has slowed tremendously but I'll take it!!!!!! TRUST THE PROCESS!!!!! Good luck to you on your journey...
  14. If it helps I weighed myself the day after I left the hospital (day four) and I'd gained 3 pounds. When I had my one week check-up three days later I was down 10 pounds from my surgery which means 13 pounds in three days. I think a lot of it had to do with the IV fluid and the not being able to have a... um, well no delicate way to say this, a bowel movement, for the first few days. It DOES come off though so don't stress too much!
  15. I'm jealous lol I'm six weeks out of my surgery and I still struggle with my fluid intake. I'm barely able to meet the 48 oz minimum and 64 oz is just so... daunting. I guess I'm the odd one that feels full when I drink. I was in the hospital for three days for the simple reason that they couldn't get me to drink enough and yet at my one week check-up after my surgery they still gave me a 9/10 score, which is apparently really good. But as to your worry... every day does get just a little bit better and easier. I'm finding it easier to get that fluid in as for the first month I struggled to get in 32 oz and now I've worked up to 48 so maybe eventually I'll be able to get to that preferred 64. I suggest though that if you have any questions that you bring it up with the doctor at your one week check up!

    Pre-Op Diet

Lucky all of you! Wednesday starts my 2 week "milk diet" of either skim milk or Fairlife equivalent (20 ounces 3x a day) plus bone broth and drinks under 10 calories. Clear liquids only the day before. Then a 2-2-2 week diet for full liquids, pureed food, and soft foods before trying regular solid food post-surgery. I've been doing protein shakes for breakfast and lunch with lean meat and steamed veggies dinner for the 3 weeks prior to my liquid diet to help reduce my food dependency. Its UGHs but will be good for me in the long run since I know keeping carb or sugar withdrawal from being paired with surgery will help the mental game.
  18. Don’t weigh yourself for at least a week after surgery - it is often higher (5-10 pounds) than your pre-surgery weight because of the reasons listed above. Even if you can drink liquids easily, don’t let that fool you. First, your stomach is extremely scarred and healing, so it probably can’t tell you that you are overdoing it. Second, just because you can drink more, don’t. There’s a reason why we are given strict limits - it’s not only for our healing stomachs, but to get used to constantly measure/weigh our food so that we stay on track. My sleeve failed for that reason (I had my revision on 3/3) so I’m being extra careful now.
  19. it's from the IV at the hospital - you're full of salt water. I've heard of people gaining 10 or more lbs from it. It takes a few days to work its way out of your system. I wouldn't step on the scale until you're at least a week out of surgery.

  21. I am 16 days out now from the February 19 surgery.I think everything is going pretty good.I went for my 1st post op visit on Tuesday. For the 1st 2 weeks I was on for liquids and pureed.I have now been cleared to go to soft foods. Can't tell you how good the 1st couple of meals tasted. I can only get about 2 oz down at a time and definitely have to eat slow. My stomach definitely tells me when it's full and that's when I stop. I still have about 1 protein shake or smoothie each day to get the required protein. Been averaging about 450 calories per day.And he told me I could start regular food in about 3 weeks. I can't wait to have a salad. I have been taking vitamin since in the hospital. And my doctor Said to go ahead and start my full regimen again.I was really surprised that if they have us on liquids and pureed that we are able to swallow pills okay. I've been a little frustrated With the scale. Have lost only 6 lb since surgery. I am not obsessing and I know things will change. I am probably just in the slow losers club.
  22. March 2019 now, time for a Seroquel/Quetiapine update, had G/BP in July 2017. I’m still on Seroquel. How are the other bipolar sufferers managing the meds and their symptoms? Have gone from 198lbs to 140lbs/ 14 stone to 10 stone/ 89kgs to 65 kgs. Still on Seroquel, still eating when I’m drugged, every morning I look at the plate or bowl on my bedside table and try and work out what I ate when drugged and hungry the night before. Hate the drug. My BMI has come down to 25 which is normal, but I know it would be less if I didn’t eat at night after taking Seroquel.

    Changing Tactics

Yep @Danny Paul I too noticed this from about the 18month mark. It's tiny changes, right? I can now eat 4-5oz of protein at dinner rather than 3oz. I can have larger portions of raw and leafy veggies. I tolerate more fat in my diet. And the bedtime snack is alive and well and living in my house. Grrrr! It sucks to have to be so diligent, doesn't it? I do weigh and measure especially things like nuts and nutbutters and cheese because they add up so quickly and my "estimated" serving size is NEVER what I "think" it is. LOL. Just like the awesome visual from @GreenTealael!!! I think you will figure out a plan that works for you because you are diligent and aware and take ownership of your food relationships. And we can hardly ask for more than that! Right? So I have faith you will figure it out. I do wonder though, because I've observed so many people 2+ years out struggle with night time hunger, do you think this "is a thing"--a phenomenon experienced by most post op-ers at 2 years or so? Cuz I do think it is a huge culprit for scale creep. But like Tea said, IF is a wonderful tool. If I didn't IF 3-4 days per week with caloric restriction, I believe I would be up at least 10-15 lbs already. Instead, with IF, I'm able to maintain and defend 130-135lbs, but not without considered attention to detail. Luckily. I like attending to detail, and eating as I do. I don't feel deprived, even with IF or with calorie restriction on ADF. But I do wish it was more steady-state and I suspect bedtime snacks do impact this teeter-totter.
