  1. I'll find out more tomorrow when Amazon's drone delivers it, but here is the most interesting thing I could find on the product on the web...It arrived last week, and it is flavorless. Mixes well with yogurt, half a scoop dissolves nicely in my coffee. Finally able to boost my protein levels to where they need to be. My hair is not falling out like it was. So I'm sticking with this stuff. I was poking around on the web about this and found this on one of the body building boards: LARGEbagFrontWEB.jpgHey there guys. I am the Doctor/Genetic Bio-Scientist that invented GENEPRO and am the owner of Musclegen Research. Serving size is 1 Tablespoon = 30g of Protein.. Here is a little about the product and the difference between Genepro and any other protein on the market. We are working with bodybuilding.com to carry Genepro as well as out other products.. What makes Genepro so unique is that we are able to reduce the protein molecule to half the size of normal protein through a process called Electrophoresis. This is a reverse electrical polarity method of extracting pure protein. In essence we take protein molecules that, for reference, are the size of a baseball. We push these baseball sized protein molecules through a Polyacrylamide gel (the gel stays below 87 degrees F) and introduce electricity through the gel. This process removes hydrogen ions, allergens and any fillers or binders so we are able to then bind the protein with a strand of six amino acids called a Hexapeptide which stabilizes the molecular structure. This hexapeptide increases shelf life of the protein as well as balancing the bitter taste that is present with the protein after electrophoresis and actually gives the protein a slightly sweet undertone. The protein is pushed through a filtration system and into a centrifuge which results in a pure protein molecule that is now the size of a golf ball (for reference). You may not be able to fit 30 baseballs into a shoe box but you can fit 30 golf balls. Thus giving us the ability to get 30grams of protein in a 1TBS serving size. This process also changes the caloritic count as well to 3.2 calories per gram of protein. The process as well at the hexapeptide are patent pending and have never been used before in nutrition (it's a genetic process that is used primarily in forensic science). The other interesting fact is that most protein supplements digest in the lower GI and whey is absorbed at only 31% so if you're "taking" 30g of whey, your body is only taking in 9g. Genepro is digested in the upper GI which eliminates gluten, lactose and bowel sensitivity and absorbs at a rate of 94% which makes it 3 times more effective than any other protein on the planet (medical or open market). Flavorless and odorless and can be mixed instantly in any food or beverage (hot or cold) without changing the taste or consistency. Truly the most complex and advanced protein on the planet. Each 1pound container comes with 3 empty, re-useable travel pouches that make it super convenient to use anytime, anywhere and in anything.
  2. Just had my first few teaspoons of custard. Went down smoothly and tasted good. Full after 4 tablespoons! My surgeon says eat anything liquid that you can get though a straw that is really runny, e.g. Custard, broth, runny yogurts, the higher in protein like Dairy is the better.

    What to eat

A small 5oz container of non fat greek yogurt with fiber 1 bran in it, has 15 g protein and low carbs, I ove greek yogurt sometimes put on grilled potobello mushrooms and pesto for lunch
  4. Would you say that you weigh all solids (meat, veggies, cheese, etc). And measure semi solids and edible liquids? And how much do you eat at one meal? I eat 2-3 oz of solid food at a meal. I weigh out my meat (example: chicken) and don't usually weight or measure my veggies bc I can usually only eat about a couple tsp-tbsp of veggies. If it's a semi-solid or thicker liquid, I eat about 3-4 Fluid ounces (like chili, Soup, yogurt)

    Question: Liquid Diet Before Surgery

Today is day nine on liquids for me. I have to say that the first 3 days were really bad, but now I am not even hungry. I have to make myself drink the protein shakes and have at least 1 cup of yogurt each day. ( I am allowed 3 servings) I drink propel and it is just the best stuff around, I just discovered the melon and it is soooo yummy. As for the chewing, I chew sugar free gum, my doc said that was fine, as were sugar free mints. I found that the protein gave me a bad aftertaste so the mints have been helpful. I also think that I will not have the post-op hungar to deal with now and that is really going to be a blessing, I am being banded on the 28th. Only 2 more days whooohooo!!!~Mandy

    Banded 1/23/07

Lauriann, I just started adding food back in yesterday. Never thought I'd be so excited to eat Malt-O-Meal...lol I'm just eating what my Doctor calls the full liquid diet for a week. Yogurt, Mash potatoes, cream soups, fat free puddings. I know I'm not getting many calories. Their main concern is protein. I'm supposed to use two scoops per day and I'm having some issues figuring out how to get it all in. I've added one scoop to smoothies and I drink that throughout the day. I guess I'll try adding both tomorrow and see. I've also been adding dry non fat milk to things before I eat them and that helps with the protein. I have my nutritionist appt next Tuesday so I know I'll have a lot of questions for her. Make sure you're taking your vitamins. I'm also taking a chewable calcium supplement each day too. I know I'm a little lack luster as far as energy goes but I'm sure it will come back as we add calories. Good luck and keep going!!
  7. Heidi, right after surgery I was drinking several protein shakes a day while on the full liquid diet. But now I am 5 months post op and I have only one Atkins Advantage shake per day for breakfast. For the rest of my protein I have a scrambled egg w/cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese stick, mini baby bell cheese, hard boiled egg, milk, chicken, tuna, etc throughout the day. I also really like the Unjury products (21 g of protein) and you can order a sample pack to try a variety of flavors. Most days I'm getting nearly 90 grams of protein in.
  8. Prices of Protein vary widely, depending on brand, quality, and where you buy it. Some of the best deals are online. All Proteins are not created equal. Some have sugar, some are high carb, some have fillers, some are not whey isolate. Some are for weight gain, some are for loss (depends on the needs of the individual). Read the labels, ask your nutritionist if your not sure. unjury and I think some others are created for bariatric patients. Beware cheap products - sometimes they are cheap for a reason. Don't stock up. Your tastes change after surgery. What you like now, you may not like then. Also, on the website "The world according to egg face" there are many , many protein shake recipes that are amazingly awesome. Check out the website. Egg whites can be bought in powdered form to add protein to foods and drink. It's safe and tasteless. My son (a marine and a body builder) uses both powdered egg whites and whey protein. You may not need to have whey protein forever. A lot of us learn to LIKE it. I also have Atkins shakes for breakfast. I prefer a liquid breakfast in the morning. If I'm low on my protein for the day I'll have another shake in the evening to make up for it. Sometimes I'm just too busy and forget to eat. If that happens a shake is a quick easy meal. Usually I can get the protein I need from my foods. I like fish, seafood, Greek yogurt, chili w/beans, cheeses, and on rare occasions beef. I have trouble with poultry still. You'll get it all figured out. It's an adjustment but not as hard as it seems. :-)

    Please help...need food ideas.

try some recipes online, I like emilybites.com for low-cal tasty dishes (lasagna cupcakes, meatloaf cupcakes). Make sure you are getting 60+ grams of Protein per day and start your meals with solid protein (lean meats, lean ground meats, low fat cheese). I really like chili and making it myself I know it is low-fat and healthy w/ the Beans and meat. It is very filling and an easy reheat too. No more than 1 cup of food per meal too. If you are hungry between meals, start with a drink of sf something or Water and if you are still hungry, then opt for a healthy snack (Greek yogurt, low fat cheese sticks, small amount of nuts, cottage cheese), etc. Hope you are able to find some recipes that pique your interest.

    Lap-band misconceptions

The misconception about banding that drives me the craziest is that we're unable to eat solid foods like normal people after banding. I even found this posted as a fact on a DS surgeon's site in his comparison between the DS and the band! It's not only ridiculous, it's ironic too -- we are supposed to eat only solids and avoid liquid calories. All I can think of is that people who think this have only been exposed to bandsters who were TOO TIGHT and stuck living on Protein shakes and yogurt rather than adjusting their fill properly. (and I'm not referring to folks who are tight in the morning but loosen up later.)

    Ideas For Puree Stage?

I can't. I'm almost 3 weeks out and can only have Soup (not creamy or chunky), cottage cheese, eggs, Greek yogurt, tofu...I think that's it. I think next week I can start tuna, chicken, and egg salad but I'm sure they'll tell me no to any crackers.
  12. I take probiotics it helps plus yogurt . But it took a while for a bm like 3 weeks started with stool softeners then probiotics I do one or two a day
  13. If you are worried you have damaged your sleeve, go to the doctor and have him do a leak test. STOP EATING SOLID FOODS. PERIOD. It is too early for you to do that. You could get things caught in your staple line and possibly cause an infection or leak. Yes, you have a line of staples the length of your stomach. While that line of staples is healing, you need to be on liquids, then full liquids, then mushies. Nothing you mentioned you are taking bites of is OK. You need to be drinking protein drinks and clear fluids. Maybe some SF jello, or maybe yogurt. Ask your doctor. When I would get hungry(which was acid), I would take a GASX strip and drink either warm broth or warm tea. I would drink my protein drinks and calorie free liquids (Propel, etc). I was prescribed FAMOTIDINE (pepcid) morning and evening and I took a prilosec in the evening. Don't mean to be harsh - I am just worried you are going to hurt yourself. Please take care and let us know how you are doing. Good Luck!

    Pureed food

Is Reser’s seafood salad acceptable during the purée stage? I’m 2.5 weeks post op and my doc has me on purée. I’ve done homemade refried beans and can tolerate it some, scrambled eggs, broths, yogurts. I’m burnt on protein shakes and I’m trying to work on getting protein from food as much as I can even though it’s quite difficult at this stage. I’m wondering if the seafood salad would help me at all or if I should avoid it at all cost
  15. I'm on liquids but my NUT said I could have yogurt to since I have had a hard time with liquids and protein. So how does everyone know when they are full say 7-21 days out? Possible even a month out? I'm 11 days post op and I have no idea when I'm full and I don't want to mess up my sleeve by eating/ drinking too much.

    Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers

Eating around 1000-1100 calories 70-90 grams protein. Have found if u don't get at least 1000 calories in its slower to lose at least for me. I do scrambled eggs with cheese in am, around mid morning Greek yogurt, lunch deli meat with cheese lettuce wrap or tuna. Protein bar or shake late afternoon and dinner chicken steak or other protein again. Very minimal carbs veggies and fruit. Eat protein first!! Remember chew chew chew! Have found if too carb rich it upsets my stomach.

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I don't like yogurt. I used to like it some when I was a kid but the older I get the less I like to the point I am at now. I have so few calories to work with each day, I am not going to waste time trying to force myself to like something that I don't like and isn't essentials. There are lots of sources of Protein. You don't have to force yourself to like something you don't like.

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

Are you pre op? I could not stand any kind of yogurt or any flavor prior to surgery. My taste buds changed a lot after surgery and I tried yogurt and actually liked it!! I was even surprised that my favorite flavor is plain old vanilla.

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I have to agree with you Dub, Oikos Greek yogurt is tasty.. you to mix it well as it sometimes has a chalk consistency if not mixed well, that was the only learning curve I have to get use to when I crossed over from regular yogurt to Greek.

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I am a yogurt fan from way back....Greek has bit more tangy taste IMO but I love it. I do not care for plain unless I am substituting it for sour cream. I like the great value flavors from walmart as well!

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I'm a dude who didn't care for yogurt. It's something I sidestepped and reached for other unhealthy garbage. Once I entered the diet prior to the pre-op liquid diet, I gave Greek yogurt a try due to it's higher Protein content. I'm a big football fan and had seen Cam Newton's Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt commercials and figured I'd give it a go. I was very impressed with the flavor and thought it was great. Every flavor was really to my liking. I gave other brands of Greek yogurt a try and never found one I liked as much as the Oikos Triple Zero. None were as healthy, either. Give it try if you don't get dialed in on another brand. I'm 7 days post-op, 3rd week of liquids with a few more weeks of liquids to go. I am very much looking forward to the days ahead when I can have my Greek yogurt. It's going to be awesome..

    Balloon has been placed!

I'm so sorry to hear that - that sounds awful. :-( Have you talked to your doctor and/or nutritionist? If not, you should do so right away - hopefully they will have some helpful advice. I honestly don't know if the stomach shrinks, but I can tell you that my fullness levels have changed over time. After the first few days of nausea, I was REALLY hungry for like a week, but I was afraid to eat too much (I didn't want to throw up again). Then I was fine for about a month - not hungry, not full. Now I am starting to feel fuller. So I don't know if the stomach actually shrinks, or if you body/brain just adjusts. But I definitely notice a difference. You might want to try Protein /meal replacement drinks and soft protein-rich foods (ex: Greek yogurt, eggs, etc.) to ensure that you're getting some decent nutrition until you talk to your doctor. That all might go down better than solid foods, and have an easier time working its way around the balloon. And maybe even things like Gatorade to help with hydration. Good luck - I hope you feel better soon!
  24. Since my surgery in 2017 I've lost my weight loss powers. I'm a mere mortal when it comes to weight loss. That being said I do the following: 1- Weekly weigh in and log it in 2- Stop eating at 7PM and start again at 7AM (I usually go to 9AM) 3- Eat the same thing every day. For me, Breakfast greek yogurt and hard boiled egg, cup of coffee Lunch, tuna fish, sardines or salmon from a can (no additives such as mayo) dinner broiled or baked seafood with a salad. I will also eat a costco protein bar if I need it. 4-Excercise, for me 3x at gym nothing too strenous just 30-45 on treadmill 5 degree incline with a brisk 3.5 mile speed walk Very Very difficult to stay within 5-10 pounds of goal weight then try to get back down. Vigilance and sorry to say obsession are my keys. It's a struggle every day.
