From the beginning, I could drink water with no problem. A couple weeks after post-op, it could be literally at any pace. But, early on, I still went slow to make sure I didn't injure myself.

Water hasn't really bothered me since a few weeks post op -- I can take a few big sips at a time (even through a straw) and can finish off 40 oz in an hour or so if I'm concentrating on it or working out, though it usually takes me a whole day to drink 80 oz just because I space it out. But I'm the same as you -- one egg and I feel fuller than anything, it's weird! Also echoing @kcuster83, the drinking while eating rule isn't because doing it will give you foamies or dumping, it's because it'll push the food out of your stomach too quickly and will contribute to you feeling hungry again faster than if you let the food sit long enough to make you feel satisfied. Think of your stomach as a funnel now, it doesn't have the capacity to store a lot of volume so if you put liquid on top of the food you already have in there, it will push the food right through to make room. Every program is different, but I will note mine specified drinking BEFORE eating isn't a problem. -
I was put on anti-anxiety meds a few months ago due to chronic anxiety and frequent panic attacks, and I got into a really in depth convo with my PCP because I'd already been on a med for my TN (trigeminal neuralgia) that made me gain weight and I was only able to lose half the weight that I gained so I absolutely did not want to go on a med that had a high possibility for weight gain. She told me that basically anything for anxiety or depression could lead to weight gain. So we ended up choosing a med that had less potential side effects and moderately low risk for weight gain which is the med Celexa. I take 20-30mg a day (20 for good days and 30mg on bad days). The holidays f-ed up my med cycle and I had to go without my meds for a solid week (the pharmacy f-ed up my refill order and due to the holiday couldn't get in touch with my doctor) and I had multiple panic attacks in that time and during that week it really hit home just how much the meds had been helping because without them I was an absolute disaster (the worst day of the week I had four panic attacks in one day. FOUR. IN. ONE. DAY). Anxiety is a terrible thing to have to deal with and I'm glad you reached out for help (I waited. I allowed it to get worse and worse and for 3 months I just dealt with it until the panic attacks that were one a week or one every other week started happening almost daily. I hope you don't have the panic attacks with your anxiety. Because it's scary. And sucks. So much.)

Oh, Cici, you poor thing. I empathize with you so much. I had a dumping episode tonight that was maybe only 20% of yours. I didn't have any sugar-free hot chocolate and thought I would sub with a no-sugar added fudgsicle, which is a horrible choice in case you were wondering! My stomach is cramping so bad, and it feels like I'm going to have the dumps but I can't get it out. I guess we will just have to experience small episodes of dumping to remind us that we have sensitive boundaries. I hope you'll be able to try soy milk, again in a few weeks and tolerate it better. NSV… happy with the way I looked for my husband’s 35th high school reunion! I didn’t feel old and fat as I would have in the past. Plus this was a few weeks BEFORE my tummy tuck and thighplasty. About 1.5 years after WLS and down from a 2x to a size 4. -
Your surgeon should provide you with your plan including what you can eat when. Yes, there are variations in plans so It’s pretty important to follow the plan you’re given especially during the healing & recovery period (usually about the first 6 weeks). If you haven’t been given a plan yet contact your surgeon’s office to ask for it. I got mine almost three weeks before which gave me plenty of time to familiarise myself with it, shop in preparation & ask any questions if I needed. You can discuss any variations, clarifications or additions you may need or prefer with your surgeon during the healing stages & then your dietician as you progress. All the best.

I don't know how many of those products actually do the trick. Some people swear by biotin; others say it doesn't do a thing. I've never heard of Nutrifol, but I expect it also has its fans and detractors. Those hairs are already dead and will eventually fall out, so I don't think anything can help with that - it's just the natural growth/fallout cycle, it's just been sped up due to the trauma of surgery + restricted calories. At most, some of those products may help with the regrowth once it starts. The loss will stop eventually - it was three months for me (but fortunately, I didn't lose much hair. Not enough for me - or anyone else - to notice, other than I did notice more hairs than usual in my comb -so I knew I was losing some) -
Meal preppers - looking for some advice/suggestions

I will meal prep a couple of times a week. Sometimes I get sick of chicken and want steak. Usually I buy a bag of frozen chicken breast from Winco and cook all of it. Or some ground beef so I can make a hamburger patty with no bun, I usually add hot sauce on top, the Frank’s red hot sauce for some flavor or I’ll cook it with Tajin. I’ll have to work back up to those ingredients now that I’m 6 days out from post op. Just a note, Tajin makes almost everything taste better, especially vegetables. I hate most vegetables, but Tajin makes them more bareable. A lot of people have yogurt, I cannot stand yogurt unless it’s froyo. I love sour things, but the taste of yogurt is gross. Used to love Trix yogurt as a kid, but it had a lot of sugar to cover up the taste of basically sour milk. My doctor recommended for my liver shrinking diet a chicken crust pizza from the Real Good brand, which I’m not sure why they recommended it, it’s impossible to find. Since I’ll only be able to eat max a half a cup per meal when I get back to normalcy that will probably be a tiny chicken tenderloin and maybe 2 or 3 green beans lol. -
Hang in there! I lost 20 pounds in the first 2 weeks, then stalled for almost a month. I finally started losing again, but at a slower pace. The meds might have something to do with it, but it might not. If you're not getting enough calories (what does your plan say?) then your body is going to just store everything that it can get. That could be a reason why you're not losing. Also, make sure you're hitting your protein and hydration goals - those will stall you if not met, as well.

I echo the water bottle (with oz markers & time markers are helpful on a 24-32 oz bottle), the food scale, measuring cups AND would ADD to make sure you have a really good colander/strainer to strain all of your soups for the first two weeks of your post op diet! Transition from liquid to puréed

I had the sleeve 12/21/22. I am about a week and a half into starting puréed foods and I am struggling big time. What I’ve tried, hurts, and I can’t think of what foods to try puréed. Anyone out there have suggestions of mush/puréed that worked for them? Right now I am doing three smoothies a day, yogurt, jello, and pudding in between and I’m just not feeling satiated. -

Hello, all! I had gastric bypass on December 29th, so I'm only 6 days post-op, but I hit my first personal benchmark of losing 20 lbs since my 2-week liver shrinking diet pre-surgery today. If you are a visual person who is still on your weight loss journey or are looking to gain muscle, I wanted to share an awesome FREE app that helps track your progress visually and automatically takes measurements for you. It's called Me°-Three-Sixty. (No waiting for a partner to take your measurements or trying to do it yourself while holding one end of the tape measure awkwardly in your teeth or armpit.) As you continue to take scans, you can compare two scan dates side by side, both visually and with measurements. The measurements are approximations from taking a front facing and side view photo, but as long as you are consistent in where you stand & distance from the camera, the progress will be the same but may differ from actual tape measure. I took a scan pre-surgery and then took another one today. The app calculates the change in inches and percentages between any two scans. You can also use the slider tool and see what your body might look like with a weight gain or weight loss up to a certain pound percentage. Anyway, I thought you might like to try it out while you have something to compare a "Before" photo and it can still be in an anonymous way. I also loved Baritastic app, so if you know of other awesome apps we could benefit from please drop them in this thread! -
14 lbs in three weeks is pretty normal. Most people who aren't the size of the patients on "My 600 lb Life" seem to lose 15-25 lbs the first *month* after surgery. And since you're a revision patient (weight loss is usually slower for revisions than for virgin surgeries), I'd expect you'd be at the lower end of that range. You're only at the three week mark, so I'm guess you'll be 15 lbs down (if not a little more) by the end of your first month. not having an appetite at all is completely normal. Hunger usually comes back sometime during the first year after surgery. Mine came roaring back at five months out. Honestly, I wish mine had never come back. Although it was weird at first, I must admit it was easy to lose weight when I was never hungry and didn't give a flip about food. THings got a lot harder once my hunger and appetite came back. So take full advantage of that!! also, even though I was a slow loser from the get-go, I lost 235 lbs (at least originally - I gained about 20 lbs back in year 3, which is also common - most people have a 10-20 lb weight rebound after hitting their lowest weight). you are doing absolutely fine - actually a little better than expected since your surgery was a revision. I think you're doing great! P.S. I lost 16 lbs my first month - and I had a virgin surgery AND weighed almost 400 lbs. You're what we call a "light weight" at 222 lbs - and this is also a revision for you - so you're doing very well!

January 2023 peeps: Don't forget to take a few "Before" photos before your procedures. It helps to see small changes on days when you stall, especially if you develop body dysmorphia. Wishing you all successful procedures this month!

I am a mental health professional. I DO therapy along with other things... I got my VSG in 2010. MY mental health appointment with a therapist was this: Her: Oh you must be so excited, soon you will be slim like me ! But you need to save a ton a money to get plastic surgery afterwards because this *** won't pay for it. Me: Blinking. Well, you look great; but I am about 25 years older than you, and I think our perspectives may be different. Her: So, I went to Mexico, do you want the information ? Its like surgery and a spa. Blah blah Blah kept on talking... Me: ( holy crap, I need this recommendation I guess I play her game ) Oh I would love that, thank you so much, so tell me about your weight loss journey because I can see how wonderful you are doing. Her: 40 minutes of telling me all about her weight loss and dating. ( I was very newly divorced, and no she never asked). I was terrified that she would not recommend me.... because she knew NOTHING about me at all. I called her three days later on a fishing expedition ...... and she told me she put in her recommendation for me. I waited until AFTER my surgery to send MY notes to the clinic supervisor. DO I know that my childhood had molded my eating behaviors ? Of course. My grandmother and mother lived in Europe during the Holocaust. They managed to escape - but not before surviving on scraps of bread. Healthy meant being chubby. I had to re learn as an adult what HEALTHY was, then to connect all that and re learn so many things. Did that therapist ever know that ? of course not. she never glanced at my autobiography because if she had, it would have made it into the report. Which I requested afterwards. It does not mean your experience will be like that. Find a good therapist. Do not rely on one session to make or break your desire to have a personal tool to help with your weight loss. -
Almost everything checked off off my list for gastric Bypass surgery. The only thing I am waiting on is the follow up with my endochronologist next week for the results of my thyroid nodule and a test that I had done. My question is has anyone else had any thyroid problems and has not to be able to get your gastric bypass surgery done.

Hello All, I've been lurking here for a while and have appreciated your transparency and vulnerability. I was on this forum almost ten years ago after having a gastric sleeve. I never met my goal weight; over the years, the weight returned. Last month, I was only 50 pounds short of my highest weight. So, on December 12th of this year, I had a revision to gastric bypass. I feel a little discouraged right now because I don't feel I'm making the progress I expected. I lost 11 pounds my first week, but I am only down another 3 pounds for the next 3 weeks. So, I am only down 14 pounds at three weeks post-op. I do not have an appetite at all and am having difficulty getting anything down but liquids, although I was cleared to begin soft foods today. I couldn't even engage in the puree phase too much. Protein shakes are very hard to get down, so I've transitioned to Isopure (which is more of a liquid). Despite eating little to nothing, my weight loss is slow. It could also be attributed to my starting weight being a little lower than most. I started at 5'2, and my starting weight was 222. Additionally, I take bipolar meds, which are known to cause weight gain. Any words of advice or encouragement? I'm feeling down right now.

Hello! I’m four weeks post op for gastric sleeve and have been incorporating soft proteins. I noticed that I feel a distinct rise in temperature including sweating after eating some meals. Sometimes I’ll go from cold and shivering before I eat to sweating after in what seems like very little time. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just a reflection of my body working hard to digest?

Hi everyone, I have been craving sweets today to the point I can’t get them out of my head. I am 5 weeks post op and still on pureed foods, I move to soft foods next week at 6 weeks. I’m wondering how you guys satisfy a sweet tooth in this phase? I have things like sugar free werthers and mints, but it’s just not cutting it today.

Strawberries, cherries, grapes, guavas, watermelon, apples are my go to Snacks. Especially late night Snacks. My refrigerator is always packed with fresh fruits. Recently, for guilty pleasures, I really like: That's it organic dark chocolate and banana truffles. (If they don't have those in stock, I get the Natierra organic chocolate banana slices. They are different though because they are crunchy.) Also, I have been into airfried real sourdough San Francisco style bread(lots of fake sourdough out there that don't have health benefits like real sourdough does) with cheese on it. I have been eating a couple of slices every day for the past few months. Also, greek yogurt dill pickle dip. Tons of easy and different recipe on the net. I make a week's worth and use it for a vegetable dip or eat with Korean popped rice crackers.
