    Meat

Dry meat for me too....I made some pork meatballs with ginger, garlic and chili a couple of weeks back. I mixed in a couple of tablespoon of breadcrumbs and bound them with an egg to keep them soft, browned them in a dry pan then baked in the oven. When they were hot they went down fine, but the next day I took them to work cold and boy did they hurt. I made up a non-fat yogurt dip with lemon juice and paprika and that made it much easier. Same with chicken - if I have some kind of dressing or sauce it's fine. I'm going to become an expert at lo-cal sauces!

    Hello everyone. First post

Welcome Michelle, This is a great place to come to talk and ask questions. Let me tell you a little about me. I am seven months out and I feel great. I had no major complications from the surgery. I eat at restaurants when I go out socially. I eat a variety of foods. I find by trail and error that I can eat certain fishes over others. I can eat turkey and chicken only in certain forms. I can eat beef if it's slow cooked and soft. I prefer Egg Beaters over eggs but can eat regular eggs too. I eat reduced fat cheese and some times with crackers. I eat greek yogurt with Splenda and sometimes fruit because regular yogurts have to much sugar. I eat a Quest Protein Bar every day and a Protein shake every day to make sure I get in enough protein in. I drink plenty of Water. Probably enough to fill an ocean. LOL. I eat fruit and vegetables. The most important thing you can do is listen to your surgeon and nutritionist and follow the guidelines they give you. Always eat first of all your protein and drink all your water every day. Your feelings are normal about this surgery and you will be glad you did it. I wish you success on your journey into this new chapter of your life.
  3. Hi, I am 11 weeks out from surgery. I have lost 44 lbs However, I have not lost any weight in 2 weeks. Suggestions? I also find myself eating the same foods....lots of protien shakes and greek yogurt. Suggestions on what to eat? Thanks,

  5. Seven months out here. I am in the several small meals rather than 3 meals a day camp. Breakfast/first meal in the morning I usually do a Protein shake. Sometimes I will do a NF cappucino and then have a Protein Shake later in the day. Then I have 3-5 other small meals that typically consist of one of these things: Greek yogurt (Chiobani 100, Dannon light & fit or Fage) 1oz turkey Jerky Sharp cheddar made with 2% milk String cheese Thin sliced cold cuts Poached chicken breast 1/3-1/2 of a pure protein or Quest bar Raw veggies with Fage mixed with ranch dressing mix 1oz almonds or cashews 1/2 c Turkey chilli 2 turkey meatballs w/marinara I will usually pair one or two of these small meals with a carb like 1/4-1/2 cup berries, melon, plums, apricots Hummus with veggies Roasted root vegetables Sliced tomatoes with balsamic and olive oil and basil Small salad with full fat dressing Flat out low carb wrap (1/2) or a low carb tortilla (1/2) A couple of times a week I will splurge and add in something the family is eating or eat out. I don't deny myself a bit or this or that including.... A few French fries A cheese won ton (had this today!) Half a slice of thin crust pizza Insides of a street taco Popcorn at the movies Chick fil a grilled nuggets A few bites of almost anything my husband or kids order I have completely stayed away from bread, rice, sugar drinks including juice, Pasta...other than that I don't have any forbidden foods....including a very occasional dessert. I eat around 800 calories a day, typically 70g protein (60+) less than 60 carbs (usually less than 40).
  6. It's good to hear the liquids are helping. I just discovered something called keifer, it is a pro biotic (kinda like a yogurt smoothie) and has some live cultures in it. I am on a very strong antibiotic and it has helped to protect my stomach. Might be worth checking out, I got mine in the dairy section right beside yogurt. Dannon makes it, so does lifeway. I bought the lifeway, it was cheaper had more in it and came in more flavors. Maybe that will help to coat your stomach and also boot the immune system. ~Mandy
  7. I didn't have a clear liquids phase , I had to drink 2 choc shakes before leaving the hospital ( I was in for 5 days for vomiting) I was on shakes for 2 weeks and had no more vomiting issues then I started full liquids and did okay with yogurts . Then I was allowed eggs and puréed stuff and was able to keep some soups down and some puréed tuna.. Eggs didn't sit no matter how soupy. Now I'm on soft foods and the only thing that never causes an issue is cheese. Sometimes I can eat something and it's fine and then the next time I try the same food it comes right back up. I'm cleared for all foods on Friday but I don't see that happening since I can't even handle most soft foods now. I'm going to try all shakes for a few days and work on getting in fluids because I've been dizzy lately if I bend over so I want to concentrate on rehydrating. The doc says everything is fine and just I'm a slow healer!! Hopefully back tracking a little helps
  8. Don't get real discouraged, the self dissapointment i think is worse. I am getting banded on Monday the 28th. I have not been 100% good. Everytime i gave in to the temptation i would honestly get so upset with myself I would vomit, didn't enduce the vomit but i would get so anxious. In the grand scheme of things that little bit of cottage cheese isnt going to do much. Try as hard as you can to stay true. It is very hard. add oenut butter to the shakes, or some fruit. I found the best tasting shake is to use some chocolate protien powder, ice, water, and some coconut greek yogurt, its like an almond joy. Hang in there, don't give up. Don't be like me. i regret my decisions and now am in a better mind set, but i wonder if it was too little to late. You dont want that on your mind. Hang tough, the first week is the worse, it gets a little better each day, and be concious of the situations you put yourself in. If your going to be around people or events where there is large amounts of food, maybe stay home or meet up with them after dinner. Best of luck to you.

    Not doing what i should

Try some simple "replacements" - example... make pudding, but add a scoop of protein powder to the mix.... then the milk - wa-la protein pudding! Replace your soda - with Crystal Lite (helps to get your 64oz of liquid in a day) Make sure that each meal/snack you have has more protein and less carbs! (yogurt, cottage cheese, apple w/peanut butter, string cheese & nuts... chili, tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, refried beans ....etc) Go to the Food a Nutriton section of the forum - there is a great post on "what did you eat today" - should give you some really nice ideas on what folks eat. Good luck to you - we all get off track... just find your way back! You can do it!!!
  10. I thought long and hard about it, but never did it. I really, really came close. I had Chipotle once, steak and veggie burrito and frozen yogurt, but that really wasn't out of the ordinary for me at the time after a big workout, lots of protein, 60g protein in that one meal. But didn't do the whole all out binge fest, and I felt tons better afterwards.

    Hey June 25 Sleevers

I was 6/25 and I am in the slow loser club but at least it is coming off. Lost 9 pounds since surgery. I had the dreaded week three stall. Transitioned from liquids to soft solids today. Yum! Yogurt and lunch meat and Beans were all yummy. Pain is still present in my left side but tolerable with twice a day Tylenol. Today I was really tired but I had been feeling pretty good. So far so good on this wonderful journey Artymama how has your pain and intake gone?

    Any May Sleevers?

Hi Jen, sorry to hear you've been having pain. I didn't have a belly button incision. I have 5, 2 on the sides about an inch higher than my Belly button, then two higher than those and one right between the boobs just below where my bra hits. We move on to purée weeks 3 and 4. Week 1 is all liquid, and week two you can add yogurt, ricotta, and pudding. I been doling the ricotta watered down a bit with water and then added a tiny bit of protein powder for flavor. Found some Delish ones and have 6 flavors to choose from, which has been really nice. Im almost worried how easy it is to drink. I can take three regular swallows without any real trouble. I have my f/u tomorrow and will ask if that's ok. My one issue has really been constipation. I feel fine, but I know I'm not supposed to go 4 days without so I took some Milk of Magnesia today, which I hate. As for hunger, yes!!!! I've been feeling hunger pangs since day 2. I'm on omeprazole so it isn't acid. I've been taking some of the anti spasm meds, which helps a bit, it it definitely feels like good old fashioned hunger. Kind of a bummer.
  13. Well I have discovered if I don't have anything to eat before 11:00am, I am hungry all day. I am eating less than I used to eat, but eating more than I should. LIke last night, 10oz chili with cheese, and 2 cups green Beans, steamed. I made the chili from scratch. So this morning, I had greek yogurt, with 14g Protein, took 30 minutes to eat 8oz cup. So we shall see how the day progresses. I am scheduled for a doctors appt next Friday, so maybe I need a little more in my band. I currently have 4cc's in a 10cc band.

    Banded on july 11

I was banded on the 11th too!! I literally hate drinking plain water but you gotta drink. I switched from water to propel which is much better for me. I haven't felt like having much else tho, the gas pains are still are a lil irritating. I'm staying away from yogurt & milk cause it makes me gassy. I started an ensure clear today, seems a lil too sweet but it's okay. Good luck and call your doc 1st thing Monday about your liquid intake.
  15. All drs seem to have different criteria they follow but it's basically the same for the most part...I will answer your question based on my experience. You will want to check with your dr before deviating from his rules. I had to give up carbonation..the is my drs #1 rule. No food is off limits once On solids but my band isn't fond of rice or thick pasta. First month Week one clear liquids Week two creamy liquids Week three mushies....like yogurt, hummus, mashed veggies, mashed potatoes, oatmeal...anything blended to the consistency of baby food Once on solids at week 4 I started eating the way I did throughout my journey. 1000 calories each day with portion controls being paramount. I ate three meals a day of 3 oz protien, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 starch. I was allowed 2 snacks of fruit or a sugar free treet or something salty like 10 small pretzel sticks
  16. Well I survived the first week. When I went the the hospital last Wednesday, I was excited, nervous and scared, all at once. I weighed in with a loss of 21 pounds loss from the liquid diet that I followed religiously for 9 days prior. It was so hard. I started on Memorial Day, got extremely sick that night. But I didn't give up , I stuck with it and succeeded that first step. Going through with the surgery was the second major step. Now one to step three losing the weight. The hardest part is figuring this all out. I had surgery Wednesday June 4th morning, and went home Friday afternooon. I had a normal recovery period in the hospital. Typical stomach pain, tired, nauseous feeing, and no appitite. I was put an stage two of the eating process. Creamed soups, yogurts, milk, etc. I started out ok but got very constipated. Realizing that I wasn't straining my creamed soups and my yogurt had fruit pieces, small but they all were there. I also wasn't taking the stool softener. All of which caused the constipation. Yuck, I was not happy. But I learned and moved on. I have lost only six pounds since Ive been home, and worried that I should be losing faster. I get stomach pains when I eat. They come on and go quickly. Im am wondering why this happens and how long it will last. I go see the doctor for my first post op check up next week. Well thats is for now . I think Ill update on a weekly basis.
  17. Try greek yogurt or cottage cheese they both have tons of protein. Also how many times a day are you eating? My nutritionist said I should eat 5-6 times a day both now and post op.
  18. It's so interesting to see what each doctor says. Like pre ops. I had liquids the day before with mag sulfate that night to "clean me out". I would love some yogurt. But i didn't see that on my list, darn.Lucky you get to go to mushies already tomorrow? I still have to go this route a few more days, some cream of wheat would be nice LOL

    How to Break a Plateau

I haven't tried it, but it seems like it should work because it's basically cutting out most carbs (except in the yogurt and beans) and consuming Protein and drinking lots of water/fluids to help flush things out. When it says "must have 45 grams of protein supplements" does it mean in addition to the 3 oz/5 times a day thing?

    Vegetarian breakfast ideas

Well, I eat chicken breast for breakfast most days, but that is probably not appealing to you I would suggest: Greek yogurt with some PB2 or peanut butter stirred in, cottage cheese with salsa, salad dressing, or peanut butter, any kind of eggs (my favorite!). A small amount of refried beans with cheese is a little higher carb but filling and has good protein, too. I also like veggie burgers (the kind from Morningstar Farms and similar).

    Whats for dinner tonight?

Gen, it went well! 2 small shrimp and a bite of the yogurt I was full and happy lol

    Thicker Protein Shakes

Sometimes I add greek yogurt (or regular yogurt) for flavor and it also thickens the shake. I also add banana and peanut butter and that works too!

    Long Term Expectations

how is everyone doing now? I personally cannot eat sooo many foods! No ground meats, no beans, no celery, no roasted meats either! I am officially known in my family as the soup nazi! Lately, no yogurts either. I have not had a fill for 9 months. My previous fill of .6 cc was removed., then had another fill 4 months after removal. That was 9 months ago. I seem to be able to eat a lot of bad things tho. As popcorn, mashed potatoes and cookies! I am within 12 pounds of my goal weight but no weight loss for one year. If I try to eat meat it gets stuck. Always. I know for health reasons weight loss is good. But....was this a good decision? Will it always be like this? I feel bad now!!
  24. I am going to purchase unflavored protein powder. You could try getting some and putting in yogurt?

Post Op Questions - War of the Stomach!

I was in that same situation I tried mashed when I was about a week out and I paid for my curiosity. Your sleeve just may not be ready for mashed at that stage, I know mine wasn't. Give it another week, but yes that feeling does pass. Just go back to fluids and yogurt and try mashed again in another week or so. You're correct our tummies definitely are learning to accept food, not to mention those staples are still healing.
