I start pureeds next week for 2 weeks. I'm looking for any good pureed recipes. I'm not interested in baby food. I've got fat free refried Beans and I plan to blend that with salsa and then put in microwave with chedder cheese and to top with tblsp of plan greek yogurt. I'm thinking of blending some of my favorite Soups, but for some reason we're not allowed anything with corn so it's been hard to find soups without corn in them. Does anyone have any good recipes they used?

alexandrea) Nykee, you're supposed to be getting 60 or so grams of Protein a day, and milk can't be your only source girl) I DO. and no one told me it had to be from any different source.. I even had a nutritional counselor tell me I had to be sure to stay UNDER 80 grams a day.. and to be sure to do THAT.. (I drink alot of milk at night) Alex) You're really heading for nutritional trouble if you continue down this road. (Are you taking Vitamins? I hope I hope? There are lots of chewables out there; even if all you can find are children's vitamins those are fine if you take two.) girl) I take a flinstone chewable like they told me to. And I KNOW I need better nutrition.. I have a long ways to go.. I know this is a "I'll do it later" kinda thing.. but I think I will once I get maybe 100 pounds off, I will be more likely to.. anyway.. I wont have so much stress.. I can have my surgerys.. lots of reasons. Plus I am college educated..and I did alot in that feild.. I KNOW what nutrition is.. (so thats not a problem, like it is for many) alexandrea) If you're determined to stick with this too-tight level of fill, do yourself the immense favor of trying to find better foods to eat. (I AM) alex) Think about high-protein mushy food like cottage cheese, eggs, string cheese, hummus, yogurt, things like that. If you take in more calories in high-quality protein you will be less hungry later in the day, I promise! girl) Well... I got the cheese.. I can eat those slices (A 20$ block a month for the kids) but I avoid them cuz the fat.. but I still have them, And I like eggs but no one will make me any.. lol (and I aint about to) I love the yolk when its kinda mushy and I KNOW THAT would go down (at night) yogart, I cant get into.. or applesauce or pudding.. I dont know why.. I like it.. but I just dont since being banded. (I think cuz it takes up room where I cAn drink milk or juice) BUT aGAIN.. i AM not EATING at night cuz I am hungry.... I am not hungry and hunger doesnt motivate me.. I am a snacker.. The milk and juice and thin soup I get down before night time is enough.. I am not hungry. alex) From the amount of juice you're drinking it seems like you're not having trouble with liquids, so soup shouldn't be an issue unless you're trying to take it in too fast. girl) Well.. it changes throughout the day.. like It was about 12:45 pm, just back from the doctors and shopping and I had to crush pain pills and drink OJ.. and I could only tolerate about 3 ounces.. BEFORE my last fill, I woulda gulped 12 ounces of OJ EASY and be still sipping on it now (or chocolate milk) Around 3pm.. (a kid comes home) and I will get some tomatoe soup and I could try a peice of cheese (even though yesterday I SWORE not to try that again!!! I slimed trying to eat before night and I hated it) alex) Chew everything very, very well and wait a good minute between bites. Girl) I DO!! yeah.. finally something right.. lol I SWEAR.. I AM TAKING care of my band.. IF its true that the slimimng and the PB and the golf ball feelings and all that are what can make your band slip and all that (I know it can anyway) I really really got that under control... I KNOW thats usually very hard and even like completely against the rules.. but thats cuz it leads to so much band abuse and my band is FINE> THANK YOU...... I appreciate your posts cuz your talking my language.. your trying to get through to me in a way I can listen.. (very skillfull you are!) anyway.... I am so glad your here to be someone I can HEAR.. loves

Nykee, Please read: YOUR BAND IS TOO TIGHT! YOUR BAND IS TOO TIGHT! YOUR BAND IS TOO TIGHT! You need to get some of your saline removed. You will not succeed if you do not eat solid Protein. The band is designed to create satiety when the upper pouch is filled with solid protein and this gives you the illusion you are full with smaller quantities. Take this information from someone who has been banded for 2 years and 3 months and lost 90% of my excess weight so far. ME!! I have never been too tight that I couldnt drink in the mornings or eat a small Breakfast of yogurt or cottage cheese or a mushy egg. Besides the more you are able to eat earlier in the day, the less hungry you will be at night when your band is wide open. Do you honestly think you are alone or unique with less restriction in the evening? Guess again. I am wide open at night and thats when I am most likely to cheat and eat garbage food. I keep lots of protein at my finger tips like string cheese, leftover dinner meat, some nuts. I also keep calorie friendly Snacks close at hand like sugar free yogurt, 60 calorie pudding snacks, 94% fat free popcorn, Jello, weight watchers cake (if I get desperate), 100 calorie snack packs of oreos or graham crackers. I also drink lots of hot tea first and if I am still hungry, then I have a piece of 35 calorie wheat bread with some SS jam on it to make me feel like a human. I allow myself at least 150-200 calories of snacks in my daily caloric allocation to ensure that I dont die of hunger in the evenings, even though I know most of it is head hunger anyway. Everything Megan and Shelly have told you is true. And add my reitteration and new information to your list of what makes a successful bandster. Being too tight so you cant swallow your own saliva in the morning is ludicrous. Banding is not about deprivation. It is about finally getting some satiety with smaller portions so you can lose weight. It is about making wiser food choices cause you are not hungry all the time. PLEASE LISTEN to those who know what they are talking about and have been successful with the band. Babs in TX 334/18-/170 -154

There are going to be some who disagree with me on this but I quit worrying about it. I do eat foods geared towards protein - shrimp (often), kashi go lean, carb control tortillas (for pizza - often with chicken). I never found a decent protein powder and my surgeon recommends not using them after 4 weeks because he wants it to come from food source anyway. In the morning I either eat kashi go lean, eggs, protein pancakes (check our eggface recipes - she's amazing), and sometimes I drink smoothies (2% plain chobani greek yogurt, 1 cup of baby spinach, natural puree juice, frozen fruit chunks like mangoes, blueberries, cherries, and a dash of sugar free vanilla torani syrup). Good luck.

What's your favorite Lap-Band approved meal?
BeachBish replied to BeachBish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yogurt is a slider for me so I have to chunk it up to give myself something to chew on (which is what activates the brain to give the signal for satiety). WOW! This post was worth these sweet words of wisdom! I DID NOT KNOW!!! Thank you!!! Thank you for all the ideas too. Sounds like you are a wonderful cook! YUMMY! -
JDru - you aren't kidding about missing meat! I went to Albertsons yesterday for a couple of things and walked by the meat counter. I stood there staring at the steaks. I tried and tried to figure out a way of cooking one and making it a "mushy" without completely ruining the steak. Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?) I could come up with anything so I went on and got my yogurt. Overall I am doing well. The scale has been stuck for a week, and I am getting disappointed with that. I did so well the first two weeks, it upsets me that this week the scale didn't move at all. I even tried uping my exercise - instead of walking 1 mile, I've been going for 2. Hope you and Sandranoelle are doing well!

I agree with what everyone said but also I'm on Mushies week 3 and love tofu and Greek yogurt...maybe this will work for u as a protein source?

Vegetarian diet - is this impossible post-OP

I second mari.beth's comments! Thank you for this thread! I am a pescatarian and will have gastric sleeve surgery on July 6 (am in a two-week liquid protein shake phase as I type). I have been researching high protein, low carbohydrate options for post-surgery life and am grateful for any suggestions! I can't drink dairy milk or eat dairy yogurt because of allergies (otherwise I'd love to eat high protein Greek yogurt!). I would love to find dairy free options that are lower carb and higher protein. I can still eat dairy cheese (at least my stomach tolerates it before surgery). I'd love to know how everyone is doing and get any other tips and suggestions from people! -

I'm 2 weeks post op and it takes me about 4 or 5 different sittings just to get one Premier Protein shake in. I need to focus on protein for the healing process as you do as well. I would substitute cottage cheese or yogurt for the oatmeal... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Now That You Have Had The Surgury, What Negatives Have You Experienced Thus Far?
B-52 replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The biggest negative is about food. My tastes have definitely changed, and I really don't have much interest in food anymore. It drives my wife nuts when she goes food shopping. She will ask me to put anything I may want/need on the list, and I usually say "Nothing!" I find I will go the grocery store and get foods "just for myself" like stir fry ingredients, yogurt, etc. And also, I waste a lot of food. Everything I get from take out. Or whatever I cook, is always WAY too much. My family took me out to dinner for my birthday. A "Seafood Buffet" complete with a Raw Bar. I did have a few drinks before dinner, but after that I felt bad I hardly ate anything. It was a very expensive place. -
Force protein or just get liquid in?
Fbhirsch replied to Mrs.Ally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 12 days out and it definitely gets easier. The first couple of days I just concentrated on sipping fluids and seeing how that went. I had some jello and thinned yogurt but realized I needed to concentrate on protein. So now I make sure to start with my protein shake(s) before I eat anything else. Make sure to sip water or flavored water between because protein shakes tend to make you more thirsty. I give myself a goal of at least one protein shake and one bottle of water before anything else. It usually takes all day to get there so I really don't end up eating much else. I've also started a liquid vitamin. That's just how I do it. Good luck on your journey! -
I was told by surgeon not to swallow pills whole until 3 months out. When I had one of my post op appointments he said go ahead and try swallowing the capsule that was beyond bitter. I was about 2 months out then. One night I did and got an excruciating pain below chest, radiating to stomach and back, just like a gallbladder attack, except I do not have a gallbladder. It lasted abut 2 hours. spoke with the on call doc, he said sounded like pills got stuck g back to crushing them. I am now almost 4 months out and have been swallowing my pills for about a month. last night, i got that excruciating pain again. This time lasted about an hour. I had not overeaten for Thanksgiving, was very proud of what and how much I ate. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this, pain, stuck pills, anything. I messaged my doc this AM, but do not even know if they are open today. So for today I am mostly doing liquids and very soft stuff like yogurt and cottage cheese.

Week 1 post op but can stomach solids...
Aimee-Belle posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, Couldn't find another thread so will just ask... I'm exactly 1 week post op and since yesterday (day 6) I've started trying a few 'solid foods' in the UK we're told after a sleeve to have liquids for 3 weeks, then puree for 3 then move to more solid food. But I've always been a quick healer, and for some reason I just knew in my head I felt ok to try something, I've had a thin slice of cheese, a strawberry, a mousse dessert (yogurt) and a small piece of soft potato. All of these I chewed until they basically didn't exist in my mouth before swallowing, but I've experienced no nausea, sickness or cramping. I understand I couldn't eat a proper meal as I could over stretch whilst still healing, and I am literally nibbling tiny mouthfuls and chewing until I can't even notice the food in my mouth anymore but is this normal? It's becoming really hard to stomach just Soup and milk etc when I feel ready to eat more solid food. I completely understand the risk of rushing the process and I will allow myself time to heal fully but would like to know id this has happened to anyone else? -
Either one is fine, use both. I believe the light and fit (it's Dannon) has less fat (which I really dont care about tbh) and 7g sugar is nothing to fret over when you are only getting about 500-600 calories a day. My Protein shakes were nearly 30 grams a pop, so 2 of those pretty much took care of requirements, plus 12g more for the yogurt. I have had no trouble meeting protein goals at any phase of the diet. I lost over 20% of my excess weight in the first month and my fasting blood sugar dropped from 150+ to 89. It's still 89. This surgery was the best idea ever.

There are various "recipes" for shakes that you can find online, and some are surprisingly yummy. I like Unjury's chocolate Protein shake with a little PB2 powder blended in, or a Torani sugar free syrup. If you haven't checked out the blog "The World According to Eggface" I recommend popping over and looking at her shake recipes. Starting about a week out I began making smoothies using a Greek or Bulgarian yogurt that is high in protein and low in carbs and some frozen fruit. It felt more like a "normal" meal to me. Dr. Matthew Weiner is a bariatric surgeon who has a video on YouTube about the "set point smoothie" that he recommends to his patients. I also like adding GENEPRO or another unflavored Protein Powder to Crystal Light. For me finding things to look forward to and distract myself was beneficial during recovery. I took advantage of the time off to binge watch several shows everyone raves about that I'd never had time to watch, read some great books, and got little treats like fresh flowers and candles that add a simple pleasure to the day. That helped me to take my mind off food. I had cravings for things that first week that I haven't desired at all ever since. Head hunger is totally normal, and for most people it lessens with time.

...just got real!
prettyCali916 replied to prettyCali916's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: I have a cold no bueno. I haven't really wanted to eat anything the past couple of days but I know I need to force it down. So far I've added chowder, eggs, chili, lunch meat and Greek yogurt to my allowed foods. Next week - the 29th - I go to all foods. Slowly. I do think I might stay here for a while with these foods because I haven't been able to consistently get in my Protein and Water. When I can do that for at least 5 days straight, I think I'll be good. Hopefully I can do that this week. I'll weigh in tomorrow. Hoping for at least under 260 this time. Haven't started working out really, just light weights. But i will start cardio this Friday when I return from Palm Springs. Hubby is going with me to make sure I'm good. Lol! He's so overprotective these days... -

prettyCali916 replied to prettyCali916's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: Didn't quite make it: 263.8 lol! So I'm down 19.8 pounds since surgery and 25 since 3 days before surgery. Yay!!!! I made Greek yogurt + Syntrax unflavored. Disgusting. I ate it all but will never make it again. For lunch - salmon pack + 1tbsp ff mayo + boiled egg = meh. I ate half of it but my 16 month old was tearing it up lol! Tomorrow I think I'll just have a plain ol' egg lol! -
help in need of serious protein ideas
twobluecats replied to backtonew1's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm 18 days out, and for the past three days I've got my protein in via my food versus drinks. Yahoo! I'm averaging between 60-70 grams of protein and between 700 and 800 calories. I use greek yogurt, eggs, light string cheese, refried beans with cheddar, tuna, and crab to get it all in. It really hasn't been difficult with a little planning. I get to introduce soft foods next week, so I will add fish and some ground meats to my variety. -
Yes, you need to increase your protein.....and I assume when you said 300 carbs, you mean calories....However, I suggest leaving the baked potato and eat more protein. Potatoes don't have a lot of nutritional value...it's high in carbs that you don't really want while you're trying to loose weight. Try sticking to lean meats and fish, and non-starchy veggies like green Beans, yellow squash, zuchinni ...etc.....Potatoes, rice, Pasta, bread......stay away from! If you have difficulty getting enough protein from food add a protein shake that is low in carbs....If you eat fruit eat it with a protein like deli meat, Greek yogurt, or nuts.....(of course eat the foods I'm mentioning only if you're cleared to eat them) I eat mostly protein, by the time I finish my protein, (fish or chicken) I have very little room for veggies or anything else.....maybe a bite or two. I hope that helps.

Any body tried frozen yogurt post op?
-
I had acid reflux, too. I take chewable Pepcid for it now & that seems to help. I'm also on other meds that I have to crush. I had to be on clear fluids until today. I was making my Protein powder with crystal light. I'm sick of that and so ready for milk & yogurt. Can't wait until next week when I can have pureed food. Good for you for walking! I broke my big toe two weeks before surgery, so I'm not as mobile as I would like to be. I still take short walks. Sleeve date: Oct. 15. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy

Yes, I hated the protein shakes too until I found About Time. It's awesome! I do add plain greek yogurt to it to cut down the sweetness, but it's not bad. It's also high in protein so I only need 1 or 2 a day and I have enough protein. You can get samples on their website for cheap. I like banana. I'm eating steamed fish and beans this week. Next week I can introduce new foods. I'm excited. I think I'll stop writhing, too. My scale is out of batteries anyway. I can tell my weight loss has slowed & I even gained a pound this week. I hope it starts going the other way again soon. Sleeve date: Oct. 15. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy
