What is the right amount of food?

3 weeks and 19 pounds is fantastic. All instructions are different, what does your plan say for puree stage? Are you hitting your protein goal for the day? Do you log your food in an app? My instructions are five years old. I was told to get in 60 to 100 grams of protein. I had to use a combination of protein shakes and pureed food to hit my protein goal. Hunger was more manageable as I progressed to real food stage.

    My Surgery is this morning

I went to sleep very easily last night, however I woke up at 3am to use the bathroom and could not get back to sleep. I finally got up around 3:40, checked my email and responded to one of them, then went back to bed. I think I dozed off and on and I just decided to go ahead and get up around 5:45. The first thing I did was pray, before my feet even hit the floor, because if something should happen while I'm in surgery (and I'm not thinking morbid thoughts or anything, I'm just being smart) then I know Me and God are ok, then I'm ok... Then I shook my sheets really good and made my bed (I already put fresh clean ones on) thinking about coming home and climbing back in the bed for a nice nap. (I'm being optimistic and hoping I won't be in too much pain! haha!! So anyway, I'm about to get a shower and get this show on the road. My Mom is picking me up at 7:00, I have to be at the hospital at 9:00 and my surgery is around 10:30. Thought we'd stop for a nice breakfast on the way.....LOL!!! JUST KIDDING!! It takes an hour and 15 or 20 min to get to the hospital from my house and we don't know EXACTLY where were going when we get to the hospital so... My daughter Katie (who is almost 19, is going with us also. She will be my primary caregiver for the next couple of days. SO---My journey begins... feeling ever so slightly nervous, but optimistic.

    Can Anybody Relate?

you have to remember that the esophagus has a 'memory'. Just because you 'can' eat chips and salsa doesn't mean you should do that to the new esophagus that you wnt to be 'tight'. I had to learn that at a support group. lapbanded 01-16-09 and lost 35#. Be kind to the surgery and chew 100 times with small bites. I get caught when I eat with company in a restaurant. They are all eating fast and I constantly have to remind myself to eat small bites slowly and I cannot talk when eating(cuz I'm counting:0). hope this helps.

    Apology

I am very sorry I haven't been in to chat and visit with everyone. Unfortunately the lapband and weight loss has been the furthest from my mind as of late. My most favorite aunt has been suffering for a long time with cancer, they recently told her there was nothing more they could do for her, that she had 10 days to 10 weeks, go home drink martinis and enjoy the rest of your life. She did. And she left us Wednesday. I have been an emotional roller coaster since. I want to feel good about this. Finally she isnt suffering, there is no pain in eating and drinking, no pain in her body. But we (her entire extended family) were just not ready to let her go. I started the first day with Cookies, but soon started feeling like I needed to DO something. So I drained all 5000 gallons of my pool and leveled the ground beneth it properly, in the 102 degree (heat index) heat. The more the sweat poured off me the better I felt. Unfortunatly this hasnt made a dent in my weight but right now I just dont care. As long as I am moving and working I am ok. If I stop and be still I loose it. If I am alone, I loose it. And she would be very upset with me for that. So I work my butt off so I don't think about it. This has been my life lately. I will be back soon, I just need some time to get over this. All my best!

    Just curious..

So glad you posted this! We are basically twinzies. Sleeved 12/19: Hw 270 Sw 255 Current - 222.2- and I've been in this 222-225 for 3 weeks! (I'm 5'7") I need to do something different. I see the dr on Thursday. Before surgery I LOVED water. I was great about it. Drank a gallon a day. Now, I struggle. It just seems to make me nauseous. I know this is something I need to work on. Otherwise - I stay around 1000-1100 calories. 60-80 grams on protein (60 is a bad day. It's usually 75-80). I drink 2 or 3 protein shakes a day and eat chicken or turkey for protein. What are you doing about vitamins? I bought Journey 3+3 from bariatriceating.com but they made me super nauseous (threw up a couple times) and dr told me to d/c for the time being. It helped. Now I need to find something else. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New In Idaho - Help!

I live in NY and my surgeon required me to lose 10 pounds. It seems kind of extreme to have to lose so much before the surgery. I think you should check around with other surgeons in your area and see what they have to say. It doesn't seem healthy to lose it that way.

    July Surgery Date

Hi Sleeve Sisters! I'm Karen and I'm 43 and live in Asheville, NC. I was a thin, competitive athlete and had a consistent weight of 130-135 throughout my 20s. Then I had my first child 10 years ago and my second 7 1/2 years ago and gained 70lbs with each one and despite spinning 5x week throughout and after my pregnancies I wasn't able to get below 180. 2 1/2 years ago I decided to go on the 500 calorie a day phentermine and HCG diet for a year and got down to 155. In the two years I've been off of that I gained 110 lbs, partly because the phentermine permanently damaged my adrenal glands causing my basal metabolic rate to be 1/2 of what it should be (and causing massive fatigue issues making exercise nearly impossible). If I don't eat under 1,200 calories a day for the rest of my life I'll never lose this weight. I'm really excited to have the surgery and get back to the real me and getting fit again. I'm scheduled for July 1st. I'm really worried about the 2 week liquid diet, though.
  8. Got infected Dec 10, recovered pretty well; didn't get terribly sick, mostly just fatigue and muscle aches plus a fever for a few days. However, my GI tract has been all kinds of messed up. Lost - at least - 3 lbs in less than two weeks, and probably 5 (not at home with my scale right now). Food just backs up, I have diarrhea, I barfed last night - a full 30 minutes after eating and with no food even remotely digested. It's ... not great. I don't want to lose more. It's not that I can't eat anything, and I can probably sneak enough calories in to keep my weight up, but how annoying is this. I'm literally having to resort to bread with butter (which also doesn't sit well, never has) in order to get high-calorie, easy-ish to absorb, food in. Anyone else had this COVID symptom? I developed a full-body rash, too. Itchy af.

    Going back to work

I had my surgery on 10/27. I took off five weeks. I only work part time. I probably could have gone back at three weeks but doc wrote me out for five so I am taking the five weeks. It has been nice to get used to all the new things in my life.
  10. Congrats! It doesn't matter how long it's taken you, 81 lbs. is PHENOMENAL and I know you look great!!! I hope to have the same success, I am so worried about my bad habits though. I will be banded on June 19.
  11. Janey I love you but is there really such a thing as a size 3? I went from girls 12 to Ladies 12 at 10 years old and never seen a size 3 in my life. This made me laugh. I will never see a size 3 before I die...... Thanks for making my day, no offense honey, sincerely!!!! Linda

    Insurance

Hi---welcome to LBT! I do have BCBS---it is BCBS of TX. And yes they made my life miserable!!! BUT---there are many, many different coverages of BCBS, and a lot of it depends on what exclusions your employer placed. It is impossible to advise you---the best thing you can do is call them. Take meticulous notes---when you called, who you talked to, what they say....and put on your tenny shoes, and get ready to jump through some hoops!!! The good news is...it is SOOOOO worth jumping through them!!!! Each plan has different requirements. Mine consisted of 5 years of documented obesity, a BMI of 40 or 35 with 2 co-morbidities, and 12 consecutive months of a medically supervised weight loss program, with bi monthly nutritionist consults. My problems come in with the 12 consecutive months thing. I had done 10 1/2 months consecutively, and then was in a car accident, and required surgery. Due to that I missed my appointment in the 11th month, and rescheduled it for when I got out of the hospital...but it was over 30 days since the prior appointment, and they decided I had been non compliant. So they denied me...twice. It was a mess---I likely could have sued and won....I gave up, and self paid---with my settlement from the accident! But my SIL has BCBS, and she had no problems whatsoever! So it is a guessing game as to what your plan requires, and what clauses your employer added. Make that call, and get the ball rolling---it is a great thing this band!!! Good Luck!! Hang out with us---lots of people working to get approval---this site is perfect for support! Kat

    What am I doing wrong?

1 lb every 3 days is 10 pounds a month. That sounds pretty right to me. Don't be so hard on yourself. At that pace, you'll have lost over 100 lbs in less than a year. That would be amazing by any account. Just keep grinding.

    What am I doing wrong?

I had my surgery the same day as you, our stats are almost exactly the same, lost 20 pre-op, then lost 10 the first 2 weeks and now I haven't lost anything in a week, I have heard that this is normal though and the scale will start moving again. I have been walking and swimming, getting in all my liquids. I do not have a Protein goal yet, but I have been trying to get in as much as i can. I am on pureed/mushies still. 16. I have a few questions. I was an original sleeve patient in November of 2011. I had a severe stricture that was finally corrected with a bypass in August of 2012. I had lost 110 pounds. Scale finally kinda quit moving but ok with that I guess. I was at an ideal weight and had lost all "my girls"! LOL. My sweet husband agreed and paid for me to have a breast augumentation Thursday of last week. The scale gained almost 10 pounds. I know those silicone implants did not weigh 10 pounds. Help! What happened? I haven't felt real well or ate a whole lot since that surgery Thursday. Any idea where that weight came from ? How to get rid of it? I can't exercise for a week or so. Anyone else experienced this ? Help I'm struggling.

    Wayyyyyyyyy too many clothes!

You are my twin. I've lost over 100lbs and all I've bought is 2 dresses that were on sale for under $10 and a bathing suit for the beach this summer. Other than gym clothes & underwear I don't need to buy anything. My sibling calls my spare room "The Store". I've taken 10 bags to Goodwill, and given away 2 bags of clothing. I still have more to go! Selling is a pain in the rear, although I'm thinking of trying ThredUp for some of the really nice designer stuff I have.
  18. Good morning! I was scheduled for my surgery on May17th. The day after my pre-admin, my PCP called to let me know the enzyme levels in my kidneys were way up and my EKG didn't look right. She said she did not want me to go through with the surgery at this time. I was devastated! She set me up with a Nephologist. I met with her the following Monday. She said that since I had been on so much protein, lost 30 lbs quickly, was still on the same meds, and a bit dehydrated, my kidneys just couldn't filter all that out. So PCP dropped all my meds ( diabetic, bp, cholesterol) and put me on one low dose diabetic med. I increased my water intake. They did an ultra sound on my kidneys, no damage. YEAH! I stayed on the liquid diet, hoping that I would be rescheduled for WLS soon. I got the call that surgery was rescheduled for June 15th. So, I was on normal food for a week before starting back on the liquid. Cracker Barrel veggies was my first dinner. Next came the heart issues. I had an ultra sound on my heart. I was then referred to a cardiologist. The ultra sound showed that I had a hole in my heart. Next was a transesophigial echocardiograph (TEE). Lots of prayers were going up!! Dr. told my husband afterward that the hole was not there! Thank you God!! I had my pre-admin Wednesday for my surgery Saturday. All test results came back normal!! I am to report tomorrow morning at 8:00 for surgery at 10:00!!! It has been some journey! I can't wait to be on the other side of sleeved! Please remember, all you pre-ops, DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!.

    Dr. Robert Pinnar

He will be doing my surgery 10/21 (been resched a few times due to illness). I tried as hard as I could and couldn't find anything negative about him. I thought he was very nice and he made me very comfortable. As w/any lap band office I guess-consider how you feel about his physician assistant (Paul) and the nurse (Sue). You will really only be seeing them so how you click w/them is important. You wont actually meet the doctor on your first visit..just Paul. I would love to hear what you think of them! Good luck:)
  22. Hi. Please don't think I am saying this to be mean spirited. If you gained 10 pounds while you thought you were dieting I think you should avoid fruit in your smoothy. The reason I say this is it sounds to me like you need to be more focused on serving sizes. I know it's a drag but start measuring everything that you eat. Even in the smoothy. Measure out 8 ounces of fat free milk, don't just glug it in. Over weight people are notoriously bad (myself included) at accurately determining serving sizes. Also measure out 8 oz pour it into your drinking glasses and coffee mugs. I discovered one of my mugs was 12 oz when I thought it was 8. So I would have been having 1 1/2 portions. I was on my own preop diet for 7 months and lost 50 pounds. The week presurgery I did 1 Protein shake for Breakfast and another for dinner, with a low cal/fat high protein lunch. I was including fruit in the smoothy but my nutritionist said post op NO fruit. Post op your stomach is healing and it should not be moving around trying to digest fruit.

    Seriously Need To Vent!!!

Awww, he had to get out of the house. That one day really took it out of him, poor guy. It's hard work you know. Men, they can be real asses sometimes! Sorry any male bandsters, but 8 out of 10 times they are.
  24. Hello all! I am desperate to have this surgery, and lose the weight that has held me back from living a normal life for the past 10+ years. Unfortunately I have an extremely high deductible of 10k, and my insurance won't pay out a dime until this is met. I managed to save up half of the amount, but I don't know where I'm going to get the rest from. I was thinking that maybe I could find a finance company to pay the remaining amount. My husband said he would co-sign for me because my credit isn't so good. My question is this: what is the probability that we would get approved if his score is 660, and mines is 600?

Day 4 of the Liquid Diet!

:scared2:This liquid diet sucks! I know its for a good cause....I really need to get my health back. I want to feel better. This is why I have decided to do the surgery. My son keeps telling me that it's "mind over matter"! Yeah, whateva! It's a lot harder then I thought it was going to be. I can't believe that I have actually gone 4 whole days without eating food!! 6 more to go! I have lost 10 lbs. in 3 days, so that is a good thing, but truthfully that's the only good thing I can say about this. I have my surgery next Monday! 1 week from today. I am so nervous and excited at the same time. I have doubts creeping in...I keep wondering if I am doing the right thing? Am I making a mistake by doing this? What if I die? What if something goes wrong? I guess this is normal. Also, this liquid diet has taken away all of my energy. I don't feel like doing anything. I think I could sleep all day. I'd like to say, that at least when I'm asleep, I don't think about food! However, I can't say that! One night this week, I was actually dreaming of cooking bacon, frying tenderloins and fried potatoes!! The smell was heavenly! Thank goodness it was only a dream...I'm not sure I could've resisted the temptation! LOL Ok, I've rambled on enough...I just want to remember what I felt like at the beginning of my journey....TIRED, HUNGRY, SCARED, NERVOUS, EXCITED, HUNGRY, READY FOR A CHANGE.
