Did your surgeon permanently remove those listed foods from your diet or for a short period? Week by week things will get better and you will eventually return to a normal routine but I understand completely. It is very hard giving up foods you like even for short periods of time. Hang in there! Glad you are doing well and recovering after the complications ❤️

I’m 2 weeks post op on a sleeve to bypass revision. Sleeve was 10 years ago. Never wanted this bypass but reflux was persistent and my doc said, “we’re going to have to do this eventually might as well do it now while your young (52) and healthy.” I had a complication 5 days after surgery with a bowel obstruction at the Juijnem site because of post op swelling was in hospital on only IV fluids for 3 days. It cleared up and now at least my bowels are doing what bowels do on a daily basis. That’s all good, I’ve even lost 16 lbs post op (pound a day). BUT I’m really mourning food in general, solid food in particular and just variety. I’m on full fluids and next week I get to add thinned cottage cheese, ricotta and and oatmeal (all thinned). But I just did the math and it won’t be till April that I can eat solid food. Yes I’m talking to a therapist but I’m just really regretting all of this. I was basically happy with my weight preop (could have worked harder to lose 15 lbs. but I didn’t really care). Now I’m down 35 from before the two week preop Optifast and I just want my life back. I feel like I’ll never be able to enjoy food again, have sushi roll, eat popcorn, a hot dog at a ballgame. One by one I don’t care about any of those menu items but taken together and it’s a normal lifestyle that is now gone and never coming back. This really gets me down.

for stalls, just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days. It'll break as long as you stick to your food plan.

Working from home after gastric bypass

I work from home and I took 3 weeks off and wished I had taken 4 weeks. The first 2 weeks were a blur, I don't remember much and I didn't lose the mental fog until really right at the end of that 3 week mark. I went back to work on the 4th week but immediately made a few mistakes, which is not common for me. I would recommend planning for 4 weeks off and if you feel good enough to go back to work earlier you can. -
As @catwoman7 says, people who have a revision on this site seem to have lost weight. You have done well so far and are probably in a stall. Ride it out. Stay off the scales as much as possible. Your weight is on the lower scale so it will be slow going from here but you should get lower. People who have a virgin surgery can get to a lower weight but not all. It must be heaven to get rid of the GERD

Still keep things fairly soft, moist & tender. Slow cooked or medium rare to medium meats. Try the most tender cuts of meats like chicken thigh not breast. I made a lot of mince based dishes (easy to portion & freeze too), hearty soups, casseroles, stews, omelettes & sausages for a couple of weeks.

Hey having anxiety Surgery date 2_21/23 I hear a lot of people talking about the two week liquid diet, and my doctor did not They said I only need to be on liquids the day before. Has anyone heard of this? Sent from my SM-S901U using BariatricPal mobile app

I had my two week post op appt today and can start puréed /soft foods.. I tried an egg I could only eat a little.. anyone else in puréed with things they enjoy? I can drink 3 protein shakes and water down but the food is giving me a little anxiety

Congrads on your success so far. I think I was down only about 18 pounds on day 30. For some reason I have not had a stall yet (knock on wood). I am now coming up on my 11th week and my tastebuds are constantly changing. For example, when I first went on solid foods, I was loving my cheesy-scrambled eggs. Also some chicken in sauce, but now don't care for either. To be honest, I am not a "kitchen guy", don't care to prep, cook, or cleanup. So for now, right or wrong, I sticking to yogurt, cottage cheese, protein drinks, ready made low cal soups, and microwavable low cal dinners from "Atkins" & "Realgood". Still can't eat any read meat but tolerate pork. Feels like more of a mental thing than an actual stomach issue. Hopefully later in the year I will try different food plus looking at getting back on the grill this summer. Saltwater fishing is a hobby and I am not one of those "catch & release" anglers, more like "catch & grill". 😁 But my first dinner on solid food also happen to be a birthday dinner for a relative at Outback restaurant where I ordered Wood-fire grilled chicken breast topped with sautéed mushrooms, crisp bacon, melted Monterey Jack and Cheddar and honey mustard sauce. I ate half and was very, very happy.

I am at 30 days as of today and things have gone surprisingly well. I have only had pain once (pretty sure from eating too quickly) and other than issues moving my bowels things have gone swimmingly. I take a stool softener every other day and I’m going about once every 3 days. I have hit my first stall as I haven’t lost weight in about a week. Any suggestions there? Today is my first day where I can go to solid foods, any suggestions for my first dinner? How are the 1 month folks doing?

Thank you to those that answered. I was approved on Dec 23 to start the 6-month program, I received my letter of approval on Jan 4 and I got a phone call on the same day letting me know I was approved 2 weeks prior. I have all of my appointments booked !! yeah!! unfortunately, I am 12 lbs heavier than what my Dr, turned in so I need to lose that on top of what the insurance wants me to lose. -
25 lbs in six weeks is actually really good. I didn't lose that much until the end of month 2, and mine was a virgin surgery. as far as losing more, some people do lose quite a bit of weight with a revision, but it's more difficult and a lot slower than it was the first time around. Someone (maybe on here? I can't remember) once explained that it's likely due to fact that you went from a large stomach to a small stomach during surgery #1 - and now you're just going from small to small, so the loss will be a lot slower going. It kind of made sense.

I had the sleeve 4 yrs ago and lost 50 pounds , but had severe Gerd which mimicked hunger pains. Literally starved myself down the 50 pounds. I started at 253 went down to 209 and I’m 5’3..4 yrs later 237 pounds had the gastric bypass revision 12/5/2022 now 212 pounds and not really losing as of yet been almost 2 weeks doing everything I’m supposed to do plus walking 2 miles 3-4 times a week and my surgeon says I prolly won’t loose much more cause it was a revision..super depressing.

Hello Tina. Can you give us some stats to go on. What weight did you begin at, what weight did you get to with your sleeve, height etc. A 25pound loss seems really good in 6 weeks but we need to know more about you

I had the gastric sleeve 4 yrs ago. I developed real bad Gerd. My surgeon said to do the revision to the gastric bypass. I’m 6 weeks post op and down only 25 pounds and my surgeon says I probably won’t loose much more because it’s a revision. I’m devastated why didn’t they tell me before I did the revision. Has anyone lost significant weight after a revision?

Kudos! You have made a lot of progress. I need to set up a spreadsheet like this. I used to measure myself frequently but intentionally lost my tape measure in 2012. Measuring, especially during stalls can be very motivating because frequently inches are lost even though the scales are not registering a loss. -
Weight loss stalls are not exclusive to WLS. As with any diet, the initial weight loss is only about 50% fat, the rest being water weight. The more dehydrated you became with the initial weight loss, the longer the stall will last. As you maintain your initial weight loss during the stall, you are actually losing fat pounds as you regain the depleted hydration levels needed for the body to function properly.

Yes, crazy good to wear those smaller sizes! I've been losing so fast that I've actually dropped through some clothes I bought after surgery. I still struggle to see it myself sometimes, but going from a tight 44 to a lose 38 waist in pants makes it pretty obvious. I've had a few major stalls as well, but am officially down over 100 pounds now. I'm obviously really happy about that, but also a bit shocked at how fast it's come off. @Hope4NewMe don't count on maintaining a 10 pound loss per month. For the math geeks, most of the time weight loss follows a pattern called exponential decay. It looks something like this: The important takeaway is that the closer you get to goal, the slower the loss. -

Just maintaining has become it’s own reward for me. After years of seeing the scale go back up every single time I lost weight, actually keeping a fairly stable weight makes me feel great & keeps me motivated. While it’s really nice to have people comment on your weight loss & how great you look now, it’s true they don’t happen as often as the years pass. It”s why the little things that happen & remind me of what I can do now which I wouldn’t or couldn’t before are more important to me. (Though I can’t say someone telling me I’m slim, need a smaller size or similar doesn’t make me glow with happiness I am a vain human.) Most recently, jumping on a trampoline with my young nieces & nephew at Christmas was a reminder of what I’ve achieved & why I did it. It might be things like realising or reminding yourself you’re more confident in how you hold yourself, dress, makeup or hair styles or in how you interact with others. It could be a physical achievement like how far you can run or cycle. Or life changes you’ve made - gone back to school, changed careers, dating, etc. These are the sort of things that remind me that the surgery & subsequent changes i’ve made have been so worth it. Personally I don’t want to forget where I was because it helps me appreciate where I am now more. And yes, I continue to be careful about what & how much I eat & weigh myself several times a week. It keeps me on track & honest. The main battle may be over but I need to remain vigilant of possible stealth attacks from my own head: old habits, complacency, etc. -

Congratulations!!! I work from home, on the computer - customer service, on the phone. At the time of my surgery, my job was part time - 5.5 hours a day. I took 3 weeks off. But, I wish I would've been able to take 6. I'm 3-months post-op. To this day, I still have some residual pain and discomfort in my diaphragm (it's mostly just a nuisance, at this point). A recent EGD found a small hiatal hernia that wasn't apparent at the time of surgery. For several weeks, I wasn't able to sit straight upright for long periods of time. Thankfully, my desk chair reclines, so I was able to lean back and get some relief while working. -

Hi Ericka, Wow I know what you mean I now realize how fast I used to eat. I will be 7 weeks post op on Monday and food is touch and go for me sometinmes I have no appetite and then other times I want to EAT. But my stomach say NO lol. Still trying to get protein shakes down but they make my stomach cramp. I deal with a lot gas issues 😏. I am walking a mile or more at least 3 xtimes week and am going to start working out. Hope to hear from you soon 🙂 -

Sleeved 9-1-22. Hope4NewMe, you are doing great. I have lost 40+ pounds. I am at 158 today. Had several stalls but I guess that is to be expected. My hair is shedding right now, too. My bloodwork levels are good. It does feel good to put on smaller sizes, doesn't it? I gain weight all over and am losing it the same way. Which is good, I guess but it makes it hard to actually SEE changes. Hmmm, smaller but the same shape. You said, "you're brain still thinks I am the same size". Maybe my brain is doing the same thing! I, too, am so glad I had this surgery. Have fun on your cruise! -

Currently 8 weeks. Starting to exercise next week. Was lacking a little in the water department but have been picking up this week. I can tolerate mostly anything I eat, I have tried carbs (hospital food unfortunately), and some were okay if small amount, like 2 fries, 2 potato wedges, half a bun but if breaded chicken, could only have a little, felt thick saliva, I guess foamies not sure. -
My surgery is the 25th of January so next week! I’m excited and nervous at the same time!

FINALLY had my scope done

So my esophagus had to be dilated. The doctor said there are polyps all in my stomach that he biopsied. He also said I have keloids all along the incision line from my sleeve. He biopsied those, too. And he said there's a gastric tumor that he biopsied, as well. 5 biopsies in all. I'm on soft foods today. I'll have the results of the biopsies in a week. I have a follow up appt with him then, and I follow up with the bariatric surgeon Feb 2nd.
