    Hunger With Sleeve Vs Band

With the sleeve, at least for the first few months hunger is more a mental issue than a physical one(cravings). When the reduce the size if your stomach the remove the major portion that produces Gherin(sp) the chemical that produce the hunger sensation in our bodies. After a few months your body will adjust and you will feel hunger again. I am only 10 weeks out at this time, so all I can say is I have yet to experience hunger.

    Finally Made It To Onderland

Congratulations and thanks for sharing your menu. I am 10 pounds from Onederland and I can't wait to do the happy dance too! I am down 27 pounds since 9/28 when I started the pre op liquid. Banded 10/12. Weight is coming off slow and steady. I had a funny NSV yesterday. I was having a pedicure and as my peducurist( is that a word) was massaging my lower legs, she commented that my legs were smaller! Yahoo.

    Pain Left Side Under Rib

I am almost 5 weeks out now and didn't start to get the discomfort under my ribcage until around the 2-3 week mark when I was back to my normal routine. My doc said it was normal and it really only lasted about 10 days. He said that if I felt ok in the morning when I woke up and I got sore as the day progressed that it was just me working the muscles in the area he had to muck around in to get to the stomach and it should clear up in a few days. If it is really bad though, I would say that you need to call your surgeon just to make sure everything is normal.
  6. Talk to your doctor and ask for an ultrasound. Gall Bladder pain is HORRIFIC. To be perfectly clear EXCRUIATING. I know some doctors perscribe a medication that prevents the stones or gravel from forming. I don't know if it does you any good once they are already formed. If you eat any fat it will give you an attack. ANY fat!!!!!! After loosing 100 pounds at 18 I had to have my gallbladder removed at 19. Genetically my family has bad gallbladders. All of my mother's siblings had it removed (all 8 of them). Today it is a laproscopic surgery. When I had mine out 22 years ago it was a regular open surgery.
  7. LOL... wow Does it emiminate hunger - physical hunger, yes helps greatly, head hunger - that's a different story. Is my diet different - well yes, but I can pretty much eat anything. It's more different because I had to choose to eat healthier and cut sweets, carbs and fat from my diet. I can honestly say, I don't miss anything. Yes, it is easy for me to eat less, much... much easier. Blood pressure normal, colesterol normal, blood sugars normal. Joints don't hurt and I have so much more energy. Life is great and I still have a ways to go. I started loosing weight from the get go. I had restriction right away but a lot of people don't. I consistantly lost 10 - 12 pounds a month for the first 8 months. Now it is a little harder but still losing Personally... I think follow up is one of the keys to success. They say the people who usually fail are the people who don't do the followups with their Dr. Some people never need an adjustment. I know of a couple who never had a one... however, that is pretty rare I think. Hope my answers helped. It is very very different for everyone. Go to an informational meeting at your hospital. You can get lots of good info/answers there. Best of Luck

    Vegetarian Recipes

I was banded on 8/23/10. I started out as a meat eater but had such trouble getting any kind of meat down. I decided to go veg for this and other reasons. I've been a vegetarian for about 6 months now and I'm a little limited on recipes. Anyone know of any band friendly recipes that are also vegetarian friendly?

BCBS TEXAS - Check on Approval Status

Okay I just called! ???? it got to them yesterday on the 4th not the 3rd like my caseworker said (may have been late in the day when she sent it) so it hasn't been sent to review yet. ???? Have you gotten your approval or are you still waiting?

    Weight Loss Notice

I am hoping to lose 80 pounds within a year. My doc says he thinks I'll get to 135 but frankly I would be elated with 150. I haven't been 135 since I was 17! I have a short but solid frame. Even at 155 I was a size 10 and was totally happy. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 199 GW 135
  12. @militaryma Let us know how it goes! Fingers crossed for you!!! Starting weight 367 CW 335 Sleeve scheduled for Dec. 19, 2016

    Just received my bill.

That's crazy expensive! I'm from Canada and I paid for parking lol...okay I know annoying [emoji4] but I did have to do 10 months of pre-op seeing nutritionists, surgeon, social workers, ecterra... it was a lot of appointments. And my taxes pay for health care so I'm paying lots!
  14. I'm 2 weeks out (tomorrow) I've only lost 10 lbs :-/

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

you are going to love it there! They all treat their patients so well and Dr. Campos is sleeved too. I didn't need any help as I felt just great by the time I got home from the hospital. I hope you do too. Things to have when you get home, are sf popsicles, and hopefully you'll be able to stand some sort of protien drink to get some Protein post op. A lot of people don't like Isopure, but it's full of protein and I didn't think it was all that bad. It's not anything I would want long term, but for 10 days on clear liquid, I could handle it. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any other questions. I adore Dr. Aceves and everyone at that hospital. I would love to go back just for a visit!

Was Anyone Healthy But Just Fat?

Hi MissMeow I do not mean to repeat what the others have said, but I too could have written your original post not so long ago, except my weight started to pack on after I had my daughter when I was 19. I have bounced up and down the scale ever since. Many times I had lost 50-70 lbs, and slowly but surely the lbs came back plus some. I started on my WSL journey seeking lapband, but my surgeon recommended VSG because of my age (I am 35 also). He said I am far too young to live with a device inside of me, and the longer it is in, the more chance I would have of something going wrong. I then started reading a lot of blogs and message boards for all surgeries, and the sleevers sounded FAR more happy then the banders. I have also learned along the way that 'just fat' is a disease. It is not yet accepted that way by society, however, obeisity is a disease that can be treated. If my doctor told me that I have a disease that could potentially cut my life short by 20 years I would definately go under the knife if it would prolong my life and prevent other diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc. So, I am having my surgery on 02-20-2012... Sometimes for quality of life, we have to have faith, and take educated chances. For a better quality of life with my kiddos, I am going for it!! I hope you find some answers to help you make a decision. Everyone on this board is super willing to offer advice, and share thier experience. Good Luck

    Weigh More After Surgery

I was 313 morning of, 316 day I got home and 297 today. I was sleeved 10/2. I've always been a fast dropper at when starting diets and since I'm on liquids only I guess it makes sense. I'd not worry about it, it will come off. Your body may be in shock still.

    Weigh More After Surgery

I lost 10 pounds in my three day hospital stay.. Then gained a pound after a week, freaked out over it and then it took 5 days for me to continue losing weight. Down 25 pounds since September 5th, but seriously, going up a point freaked me out!
  19. I'm right there with you ladies! I'' 11 days post-op and I'll be 30 this year. My husband and I tried for 5 years. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance about 10 years ago, so we knew the difficulty we were facing when we began trying. When we started fertility testing and treatments, we learned that my husband has very few, very low quality swimmers. That was a shocked! All those years, we thought it was just me. We have never stopped trying, but we adopted our precious girl from CPS 3 years ago. My doc said to wait 18 months. I REALLY want to be at goal weight before I have the possibility of getting pregnant. Like everyone else, doc wants me using BC, but I don't want anymore hormones... I just ordered our FIRST BOX OF CONDOMS! I felt like a dirty teenager ordering them online! Never used them before! Do y'all think that's okay?!?! P.S. I didn't do get sleeved solely to get pregnant, but the possibility was definitely as decision-making factor! I did this so I can live a long, healthy, active life with my precious little family! If God grants us a birth child, we'll be ready for it!

    Im Sleeved!

hey guys!!!! so here are the details so far of day 1. grab some Water & get ready. (not popcorn lol). ok so, surgery was set for 8am today. i had to be here at 6am. i was like 4 minutes late so the desk lady was calling me! geez im on the elevator! lol. anyway, she takes me into this room & gives me a bag, a robe & a pair of socks & tells me to get undressed & change. i do so. she comes back & tells me to lay down in bed. she starts asking mequestions about medical history & stuff like that. then she started me on IVs and had me laying there. she also gave me a bloood thinner shot in my tummy. i thought it would hurt but didnt. then she had me sign a paper stating that im giving consent for my surgeon to do laproscopic gastrectomy sleeve, "possible open gastrectomy sleeve." i protested. i told them no open surgery! so i was told to speak to my surgeon. cool. shortly after, a guy named lou cane and got me. he wheeled me to the elevator where my mom came. once off the elevator, we walked a little until we stopped and my mom couldnt go any farther so she kissed me goodbye! after that is when i got really nervous. lou kept asking me how i feel & kept telling him REALLYYY nervous. then he stopped in the hall way where i closed my eyes & kept praying. a few nurses introduced themselves & put a shower lookin cap on me. my anesthesiologist came to me & asked questions and i mentioned that my acid reflux was acting up. he gave me some meds to drink that helped it! finally my surgeon came and i told him about the possibly open & he explained that in case of emergency i might needa be opened up, so ok cool. they wheeled me back & got me prepped. i asked for the time & they said 8:05 so im assuming i was knocked out by 8:10. i woke up in recoverry and was groaning. they kept telling me i did great. they left me in recovery til like 3pm because the previous patient that was in my room refused to leave. finally, they told me i was going i was on my way to my room and mommy was already there waiting for me. so i get there & im exhausted & couldnt keep my eyes open. the right side of my upper & bottom lip were busted. my mouth is sooooo dry! they gave me these sponge thingies to wet my mouth. they are LIFE SAVERS! i been burping. i have very little pain. they removed the catheter. my throat is sore. im waiting for them to take me to my leak test so that i can start sippin!!!
  21. After almost 10 years of battling with insurance companies and a long growing list of medical problems, the day has finally arrived. I'm 31 years old and take more mediations than both of my parents combined (and they take a lot). The process is moving so fast that it's all surreal. I'm super nervous and excited. I can't sleep just counting down the days. :-) Thank you ladies for all your success stories, they have been very inspirational and have kept my spirits up not to quit trying. I will continue to check in as I'm sure I will need a lot of guidance through the journey of my new life.

    Stuck in a rut

I am also stuck in a rut! I was banded January 19, 2010 and by August had lost 37 of the 80 lbs I need to lose. I had a fill on September 17 and last Friday I went for another. I had lost only 3 lbs since the last fill. I work out 3-4 times a week, so maybe I need to up that. I have lost lots of inches but no weight. It's starting to depress me a LOT. The physician's assistant told me if I don't lose 2 lbs in the next 2 weeks I need to send her an HONEST list of everything I am eating, so I am back to track it on LiveStrong again. The only starch I have is mashed potatoes, so I am going to cut those out for a few weeks and see if that helps. I am taking in 110-130 grams of protein but as far as water goes, I think I can do better. It's frustrating but I'm still a lot farther along than I would have been had I not had the surgery. Have to think positive and keep plugging along I guess!

6 months and I'm not losing!

Kara I can totally relate to your struggle. I could not lose any weight pre-op no matter what I did. I would follow a strict low carb diet, exercise like crazy at the gym (for me anyway, I would do at least 30 minutes treadmill and 40 minutes swim at least 3 sometimes more times a week). It was so frustrating so don't lose heart. My insurance had a supposed 10% weight loss requirement and a 6 month class before getting anywhere near approval for surgery. I started the program last January at 256 pounds and the day I went into surgery on Dec 29, I weight 255.1 pounds. I didn't even lose a whole pound after a year of struggle. But they gave me the surgery anyway because I did not gain any weight. So at least, hopfefully, if you can maintain whatever you were when you started with your doctors, you should be able to get the surgery. They waived the 10% requirement for me and made me jump through about 2 extra hoops but I still got my surgery. Now, I'm 2 weeks post op and down 13 pounds. That is the most I've lost at one time in years. Hang in there. You are doing your best and that is all you can do. Smillzee

    DS V RNY HELLLLPPPP

it's not done all that much in the US, either. I think I read only about 10% of weight loss surgeries in the US are DS (it may even be lower than that)
  25. Hi Everyone, Not sure if I am just over reacting, but it seems like my weight loss has stalled and tomorrow will be my three weeks post op. I have no idea why. I am getting ready to start my soft foods and I have been doing the puree this last week. I found some recipes and have not gone over or eaten anything that isn't recommended. I am working on my activity and am walking 20 min. a day. I don't know if I am just over reacting or not, but I don't like this stall. I saw my surgeon at 10 days post op, and my weight has not really changed much since then. Any ideas? Thanks!!
