no one can tell you whether it is "okay" or not. Are you counting calories? Protein? Carbs? Does this meal fit into your diet? Do whatever you feel is right, are you still trying to lose or just maintain? My notion is that if you exercise you can probably eat whatever you want with the sleeve. Just limit your portions. If you can eat the whole thing and it;s not 1200 calories, then do it. If you don't think you should, then split it.

You should not even be weighing yourself right now. It's common to gain weight the first week from all the fluids pumped into you in the hospital and the swelling. Just concentrate on fluids and protein and stick to your plan- you will lose weight! I gained 9 lbs in hospital. I'm also 5 days post-op.

I'm pre-op but you could try some broth, sugar free popsicles, flavored water, crystal light, etc. Try drinking smaller sips of protein shake or look into Syntrax Nectar instead. Good luck.

Hey 👋 how is everyone doing that had surgery in July I’ll be 3 months post op October 18th I’m down 30 pounds from my heights weight 287 I’ve been between 258 -260 for about a week now...I don’t know about any one else but I still have some cravings and hunger...my sleeve is still pretty tight and I honestly never ate to be full before surgery and it’s the same now I literally take 2 or 3 bites off everything and that’s it’s...i can get through about a liter of water a day hoping to be back to gallon within a year...I’m still doing one protein shake a day I really should do 2 but I sometimes think I’m lactose now my stomach I kinda sensitive to dairy products...I’m still struggling with gym I’m still shy to work out in front of other people and I still don’t have confidence...some days are better than most especially having depression..I knew the surgery wouldn’t cure depression so I still go to therapy once a month..I still haven’t been transparent with my friends and family about having vsg and I don’t even think i need to I went through this entire process by myself and I just can’t handle the negatively..

every insurance company AND surgeon are different, and each may require certain pre-op things including: -apt with family doctor and written letter from them In full support of surgery -supervised nutritionist classes and on-on-one nutritional counseling that requires you to keep food logs, count calories, Protein, fat, etc. plus Fluid intake, Vitamins, supplements... - psych consult (my surgeon required more than one apt) and sometimes ongoing psych appts for counseling - multiple appts with the surgeon themselves -cardiac clearance, usually including a stress test - Upper endoscopy or EGD or barium swallow - Pulmonary Function testing and apt with Pulmonologist - MAJOR amounts of bloodwork including thyroid, liver, kidney function, lipids (cholesterol), diabetes screen including fasting blood sugar, A1C, blood insulin levels, various hormone levels, complete metabolic panel, CBC, pregnancy test, and more... - sleep Study and if positive, a 30 day compliance with CPAP machine (the machines have an SD card that stores the data of compliance and it is downloaded)... - Some require proof of ongoing weight loss efforts either through gym, trainer, formal programs like Weight Watchers, etc, and I have seen some require that proof for a 6-12 month timeframe - Required attendance to a bariatric support group for a period of time At the time of surgery, the hospital may also require a chest x-ray, urinalysis and pre-op blood work and EKG and more. These were my requirements. Luckily, I breezed through most of this within a couple of months and just wrapping up my nutrition appts! Like I said, they are all different. Then, there are also some insurance companies that barely require anything at all other than a BMI of 40!

I have a good commercial brand blender. I start with 2 scoops 100% whey, and add 30ml Liquid Protein. After that, ANYTHING goes. Strawberries, blueberries, banana, Peanut Butter, oranges, pineapple...whatever your imagination leads you. I've even thrown in y chewable vitamins in there to get pulverized. I wonder how a little rum would taste???? Hmmmm..

I eat 6 meals. (every 3 hrs) Each one of 1.7 oz. That's all I can eat. Very high Protein. I'm hitting between 75-80 grams a day.

Ok.. so I am post op day 5. Up until today I have been feeling like total s**t. Last night was bad because of all the gas pain in my left shoulder/collar bone/neck. Up until today I haven't been able to stomach anything more than water, apple juice, and a tiny bit of tomato soup once. I made a strawberry smoothie this morning with greek yogurt and my unjury unflavored protein powder. I have to admit... I thought it would taste way better lol (certainly doesn't taste like the smoothie from the coffee shop). This came out to be about 16oz after all was said and done. Do you think I'm ok if I sip slowly... or is this too much to take in? I'm still trying to decipher the pains in my belly but I think I'm catching on.

I know I haven’t posted in awhile but I’ve been so busy I’m a month and a few weeks post op my surgery was July 18th I weighed 287 that morning Im 264 as of today no complications or diarrhea...everything went as planned I was even able to pass my swallowing test with out throwing up...I did have some nausea when switching to soft and solid food but nothing major and I’ve thrown up 1 time I tried to eat spam and my pouch didn’t like it lol but I’ve learned my full feelings and I pretty much get the hiccups when I full now and I always eat my protein first to fill up fast I usually eat every 2 to 3 hours and I drink about 4 to 5 bottles of what a day I will say I’ve tried to eat takeout and it’s not the same I get full way to fast and gassy and it’s hurts anything that’s processed doesn’t go down as easy and takes forever to digest so take out food is a big no right and cards usually get stuck and take forever to go down to as well but I know that’s going to change over the next few months i just started working out a few days ago trying to get back into a routine I’m happy with my overall decision and glad I did this for myself I’m hoping to get down to 220 by the end of the year

Not a man, but I use good old Flintstones chewables and supplement with a hair/nail formula for more mineral coverage. If you use protein powder, you'll get a lot in there too.

Wow great result!! You sound like your feeling great :thumbup:I havn't had it done yet, am waiting for a date, hopefully Sep/Oct, but from all I've read, it sounds like eat small potions of protein rich food, chew well, don't drink at the same time and up to an hour before or after a meal and exercise and you should be right  -
Soo since my post ooo appt 2 weeks ago I gained a pound. I eat less than 900 cal a day. All Protein based, some vegis with minor exercise. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I know I can increase exercise and am slowly working into it. I just got cleared. Even with minimal exercise, I am eating significantly less, I should be losing. :-( I don't ever meet fat, carbs, or sugar goals on my fitness pal. I sure hope something gives soon. It's kind of discouraging. I just keep reminding myself I've lost 20#s. That's fantastic. Myfitnesspal is Samanthamegan3 Add me, I dunno if you can see what I ate. I tracked only 2 days but this is consistent with what I've been eating for 2 weeks. :-( help Today I went off track with the potatoe chips (8 of them) and a pretzel rod. But Monday is a mirror image of my meals. I've been doing the same thing for 2 weeks And I eat sushi no rice. But that option isn't on the app. So my carbs and cals are lower for Monday :-/

It's natural to have stalls and for weeks at a time. You should still be tracking food and calories. Look at that and see the change there. I'm 2 1/2 years out and only get an average of 1100 calories per day and 80 grams of protein. My weight goes up and down from day to day because the amount of water I drink. Yes u will get there just stay strong. As for dumping, the bad food make this happen so you might want to rethink what you are eating. -
Need Some Information....
WOWOX7 replied to MeAndYoux3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The seminar I went to was more of an information type deal. As you came in the room you were given a packet to look at. It had all kinds of info in it. A few ladies got up and started talking and explaining the process. The Doctor came in and showed a video, which was very thorough. When he was done, he opened up the floor for questions. Alot of the questions that I had, he answered during his presentation. They had asked that people not ask insurance specific questions since each and every insurance is differant. there is a thread somewhere that has a list of questions you can ask. if I find it I will send it to you. Main questions,,, how many procedures has that Dr done. In the hospital or a surgery center? How soon do they do fills? Does the price include fills? do they have a cash option? What bmi does that Dr require? What other requirements does that Dr have? How long is the wait once you are approved? Does his ofiice help with meeting the insurance requirements? Does he require a pre-op diet? if so How long? what is involved? I will look for the Thread Lois -
Have any of you tried the hair skin nail Vitamins? I was more recently banded and have started noticing my hair shedding more than normal so in addition to the Protein and Biotin I've started taking the hair skin and nail vitamins and I'm hoping I can tell the difference shortly. Sunshine

My 14 day pre-op diet is required by my doctor, and consists of 4 Protein shakes or bars each day and one Lien Cuisine meal. They must all total no more than 1200 calories. The Protein shakes must have more than 10% protein versus calories (I use Ensure High Protein Milk chocolate - very, very yummy. They have 210 calories and 25 grams of protein. So, the calorie/protein ratio is good with the requirement). I've lost 8.5 pounds so far in my pre-op and I'm in day 10. Have 4 more days till surgery. Good luck!

Tried to do a fancy dinner tonight to change things up alittle 4oz flounder, couple broccoli florets and half of a small potatoe baked in the oven with lemon juice salt and pepper, according to my fitness pal this totaled 156 calories, 8 grams carbs, 6 grams fat and 18 grams protein. The only problem was being only 3 weeks post op once I finished the flounder I was done. I guess my eyes are bigger then my stomach, literally.

The trick for me has always been to find a Protein shake that had a taste I could tolerate that also had low carbs. There were several that I tried that I liked, but they were loaded with carbs. My surgeon said to find one that had at least 40 grams of protein per serving and less than 10 grams of carbs. I had no idea how hard that was going to be! I settled on the smoothie King Gladiator powder at 49g of protein and 3g of carb per serving. It is VERY good compared to some of the others. Taste is completely subjective...what I hated, others love! That's what makes the world go round! LOL

I have tried alot of shakes. Did not like nectar roadside lemonade. Optimum nutrition from GNC tastes pretty good. In my opinion the best by far is Slim fast high Protein. With 8 oz of skim milk it has 15g of protein. Not a ton but 4 per day would be 60g. I don't like any of them mixed with Water. Skim milk makes them all taste much better Greg
