    Meal Schedule

This meal issue post op is puzzling to me, but I guess it's because every doctor is different. My post-op diet is to have clear liquids for 10 days, and another 10 of liquids along with protein shakes, milk, yogurt, and jello... I cannot eat mushies till day 21... It's interesting to see that everyone starts food at different times post-op.

    Stomach growling in hunger?

OMG, I posted the same thing last night! I also had my sleeve done on 1/24 and I am shocked to find that I am actually having hunger pangs and growling. I'm at the same stage...full liquid, but I can have cream soups, sugar free pudding, yogurt, protein shakes, etc. I have to thin the yogurt with some skim milk to tolerate it and even then it's not great. Today I am going to add some Isopure flavorless protein powder to pudding. I think if I can get more protein in, I might feel less hungry. I'm drinking Protein 2 0 water and protein shakes in addition to plain water. I'm sorry you're feeling hungry but I'm relieved to find that it's somewhat normal. Good luck!
  4. I just had bypass a few days before you and I've been on purees (and full liquids) since the day I left the hospital (day 3 post-op). I haven't had any real issues except with Greek yogurt (I guess I'll be a bit lactose intolerant for a while, common with bypass, not so much with sleeve). But I had the sleeve 3 years ago so have already been through this once before, where I had to wait a couple weeks before going on purees. In both cases, waiting, or starting right away, I've been doing well. I've been drinking blended soups, pureed veggies, soft tofu, cottage cheese, etc. Just go slow and start with small amounts at first. Try one new (pureed) food per day. After a few days, try adding another pureed food for a second meal. Your sleeve will let you know what's working and what's not.
  5. How frustrating! Maybe aim for 1000-1200 cals a day. It sounds counterproductive but I agree with that others that a stall can be broken by eating more. If you're already eating your 80 g of protein, which is plenty, add calories with fruits, veggies and healthy carbs. All carbs are not created equal, and they aren't all bad. Healthy fats are good too. Some easy ideas: Make some roasted veggies in the oven with a little EVOO, salt and pepper. Cut up onions, potatoes, add cauliflower, brussel sprouts, carrots, etc. make sure you're still only eating 1/2-1 cup at a time. Add avocado to anything for a calorie and healthy fat boost. I've always liked to wrap deli turkey and cheese in an avocado slice and eat it like a wrap. Have a chai or coffee latte with skim or reduced fat milk. Add a sugar free "pump" for flavor if needed. Have some fruit. Add a little Greek yogurt or chocolate hummus as a dip. Adding 200 cals a day might make the difference you're looking for. Good luck!
  6. Yes is normal. I love the new jello flavors! I could also do a cup of greek yogurt. I get the fat free with vanilla and add small amount of apple sauce. It has 17 grams of protein. Keep up the good work

    Paleo after surgery?

No yogurt or cottage cheese here. I have not had dairy products since deciding to go paleo ( had cottage cheese up to a few weeks ago and no yogurt since pre surgery). Diet is really earthy( by design) and it is working well so far. I do have energy squares, but these are organic and made with raw foods ( not sure if it qualifies as paleo or not). I cut out Protein bars a couple days ago except Paleo bars. My food hunger is getting so much better after cutting out processed bars.
  8. I'm post op!! My Surgery was on the 25th! Everything went great. I'm so lucky I have no vomiting, no nausea, no reflux, nothing!! I've not been able to tolerate protein shakes at all since surgery. My NUT is ok with me not having them, as long as I'm able to get my protein in thru eggs, Greek Yogurt & ground chicken.
  9. Mine is when i bend or laugh.....on a better note starting to get bored of shakes jello and broth. Just found in cosco. Greek yogurt guac By foods..12 in box 8.99. Protien. 2g..,yummmmy. Also cosco ind hummus 120 cal 4g prot by hannah...shareing hope it helps
  10. I've tried everything and it's all making me sick! Protein shakes, protein gels, Greek yogurt, milk, peanut butter, eggs???? it's all so nasty! I don't know how I'm going to do this!
  11. The Perfect Plate idea helps you make diet-friendly meals with a minimum of fuss. Just put the right amount of each food group on the plate, and you can be confident that you will be on your way to a balanced meal. The Perfect Plate was not designed specifically for bariatric surgery patients, but you can use it for losing weight. Just make modifications as needed! The Basic Perfect Plate The classic perfect plate is designed for a full solid foods diet., but you can use it for losing weight if you are eating solid foods, you can tolerate vegetables, and you are not having trouble hitting your protein goals. Here it is: Fill half your plate with vegetables or fruit. Divide the rest of your plate in half. Fill one section with lean protein, such as chicken, egg whites, tuna, cottage cheese, or tofu. Fill the rest of your plate (1/4) with a nutritious starch, such as whole-grain pasta or cereal, brown rice, sweet potato, corn, or oatmeal. Add the occasional healthy fat, such as olive oil for cooking, salad dressing, or a slice of avocado. Examples include chicken breast with broccoli and brown rice; hash with bell peppers, tomatoes, and onions, sweet potato, and lean turkey sausage; yogurt parfait with toasted oats and berries; and a Greek whole-wheat pita half with sprouts, lettuce, and tomatoes, and falafel. WLS Modifications Now, that classic Perfect Plate may not work perfectly for you. You can still use the concept, but may need to modify it slightly to meet your dietary goals. Compared to someone who has not had WLS, you might notice these differences. You get full more quickly. You might need to skip the starch and/or take a smaller helping of vegetables. You need more protein. You can increase the protein and decrease the vegetables You cannot tolerate vegetables as well. You can take fewer vegetables, and/or cook them very well. Fruit does not fit. It might give you dumping syndrome or have more sugar than you want to have. You can focus on vegetables for that half of your plate. You are eating low-carb. You do not need to have a starch at every meal. You can skip it entirely at some meals, or replace it with an extra vegetable or protein. Pureed and Semi-Solid Foods Stages You will move through the pureed foods (“mushies”) and semi-solid foods stages before you get to the solid foods stage. While protein is your main focus soon after weight loss surgery, you can start to think about laying the foundation for a healthy, balanced diet. Protein comes first. Your first job is to eat 65 or more grams of protein per day. This may mean you do not have space for vegetables and starch. Extras do not fit. Your sleeve or pouch is small. You probably will not have space for non-essential foods, such as refined starches. Creamy, not crunchy. Cooked carrots, pureed green beans, and steamed zucchini are in; lettuce, broccoli, and apples are out. Perfect Plate Helpers Bariatric Dinnerware can make it even easier to make your Perfect Plate every time. Bariatric Dish Sets and Place Settings have stylish designs for your table, with easy-to-see markings for serving yourself. Bariware Portion8 sets are portable containers that you divide using movable rings so each section is as big or small as you need. The Perfect Plate can help you put together a nutritious meal without doing any measuring. Adapt it to your needs, and it can be another weapon in your weight loss arsenal.

    Liquid diet time

I'm starting my 14-day pre-op liquid diet that consists of 2 cans of slim fast protein, low carb shake, sugar free carnation instant breakfast with 1 cup skim milk, cup cottage cheese, 1 cup dannon light and fit yogurt, 15 oz can vegetarian vegetable soup, quaker oatmeal weight control oatmeal, 3 servings of fruit (1/2 cup each serving), and 48-64 ounces of water or sugar free drinks, no caffeine, no carbonation. I have to have all this every day for 2 weeks. Is anyone doing the same diet or something like this? I know every surgeon and weight loss center is different. Any tips and advice? Thanks!!!
  14. My port incision hurt the most and I had signifigant discomfort for probably 2 or 2.5 weeks (maybe longer? Cant remember now) after surgery. Sometimes I held a pillow over my tummy when I was lying down. You should try reclining instead of sitting up right. I think reclining helps. When I was post op, for the first 2 days I was drinking about an ounce of Water every hour. I had a few spoons of clear broth Soup too. I did Clear Liquids (so water, clear broth, crystal light, etc) for 3 days. Then I did full liquids for 2 weeks (Protein shakes, thicker Soups sometimes, slim fast...kind of like the pre-op diet). I don't think I had yogurt during that time. After that I did mushies, which is when I think I incorporated thicker things like yogurt in. Then soft solids and solids after that. But its really different from doctor to doctor. Did your doctor say you could have yogurt at this point post op? If he didn't, I would just REALLY stick to what he said. You are giving your stomach time to heal. You don't want it to start churning (which is what happens when you eat, even a little) because it could cause the band to slip. Good luck!

    help with my protein?????

that's great to know- thanks! Do you find that if you add the protein to thicker stuff - yogurt; sugar free pudding that the taste isn't too obvious ( for the "no taste" protein

I'm going to make myself accountable here.

Hey hey, good morning all! Good idea Melissa, I will do that. Follow along closely ;o) Heya Tappy! Ok, I have been a really good girl. I had maybe two slip ups this past weekend. For the most part Monday through Friday were a big success. But that only puts me back the same weight I was before I totally blew it the week before! Grrr.... So right now I'm sucking down a Generic Slim*Fast Optima (equate from Wally World) and I have to admit. It's pretty danged good! I've been doing this shake thing for so long I'm actually liking the generics now. I'm so sad... LOL!! So today I have on tap one Protein shake which I've already consumed early this morning, the shake I'm having now and one for lunch. I have a few V8 fusion lites (to help with the veggie/fruit servings) to along with my day too. When I get home I'm going to have a Lean Cuisine for dinner. Only because I have to eat quick. I have to go to class tonight, but only tonight. It's to sign up for an online Excel class (8 week course). I'm sure that will take up alot of my time in the evenings so I won't have so much time to eat, eat & eat! I should breeze through anyway because I believe I'm beyond the Excel Beginner level. I'm definitely an intermediate. It's necessary though! Later if I'm still hungry I can either have a small bowl of Cereal, some FF yogurt or perhaps a SF hot cocoa (which helps to nod off). I'm being a good good girl! Yes, my husband is a good guy. He just wants me to be happy. Can't fault him for that. He says just be patient and don't think about it so darned much! In time the weight will drop. So far so good! :frown: PS Happy Monday everyone!

    Banded on july 11

I was banded on the 11th too!! I literally hate drinking plain water but you gotta drink. I switched from water to propel which is much better for me. I haven't felt like having much else tho, the gas pains are still are a lil irritating. I'm staying away from yogurt & milk cause it makes me gassy. I started an ensure clear today, seems a lil too sweet but it's okay. Good luck and call your doc 1st thing Monday about your liquid intake.

    Popsicle Molds

I have some cheap ones I got a grocery store a few years ago - they're still OK - but I bought these on amazon a few months ago and like them even better: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GDXHSZ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 the two ways I make them: 1) Greek yogurt mixed fruit or SF pudding mix 2) SF pudding mix mixed with unsweetened almond (or cashew) milk + 2 or 3 scoops of protein powder neither of these recipes are super low in calories (but then...I'm in maintenance), but they have a fair amount of protein in them, which I need...

    Complusive Overeater!

I get what you're saying. I feel so bad for every little "cheat" and wonder if I am really going to be able to do this. For instance, today I had my first fill, I was told to have Clear liquids until tomorrow. So of course, having only had a Protein shake and a little cottage cheese before going I was freakin' hungry tonight. So, I had a sugar free yogurt smoothie. Now I am fighting feelings like I am going to fail, I screwed up, etc. Over a freakin' sugar free smoothie! Here's what I tell myself, if it don't hurt then I'm okay. I had a neice live with me for several years. She was the tiniest thing. I would make these great home made meals (something she'd never had at home) and she would take a little of this, a spoon full of that. She would have sooooo much plate exposed it would make me uncomfortable. EAT! I would tell her, fill up your plate! She would say to me, this is all I need. I was 300 pounds, she was about 135. My band is helping me to make my plate look like hers. PERIOD. Try not to get anxious. That will make you eat more. You know it. I know it. We have many many many months before we can deem this a failure or success. Let it do what it's supposed to. If you are needing counceling, GET IT! Whatever it takes to help you. You're worth it! Do what you can to help you get your success.
  22. Canadian, my fingers are crossed, good luck. Tommy!!! That's fantastic, 93 lbs, now that is encouraging for all of us. As for the ice cream, have you ever tried frozen yogurt. My husband is a big ice cream fan and now he eats frozen yogurt. Chapman makes several flavors, my husband's favorite is cappacino with chocolat expresso flakes and for 1/2 a cup it's about 100 calories. lol about the laundry. What kind of football did you play? We are big Canadian football fans in this house and we have season tickets to the Montreal Alouettes. Go Als Go!

    Woo Hoo!

Almost nothing! LOL! I eat 1 or 2 times a day. So far I've had yogurt, canned chicken with a little low fat mayo and pepper, refried beans with cheddar cheese and taco sauce, scrambled egg, a pureed egg with mustard...stuff like that...I've tried to get creative and make it interesting where I can. Right now I'm craving pizza soooo, I'm going to use low carb pizza sauce, a little browned and finely chopped hamburger meat with some skim mozzarella cheese...sort of a mock pizza...now prior to surgery it was protein shakes 2 to 3 times a day and then a sensible meal...
