    FRUSTRATED!

Everyone. The week 3 stall is very common. If you use the search function at the top and put in 3 week stall, you will get a whole lot of tips on how to break out of it. Basically your body has adjusted to the the decrease in calories and is going into starvation mode. There are several techniques on how to break the stall. You'll have to find the one that works the best for your situation.
  3. My doc waits 8 weeks post op to do the first fill. I was like you, very hungry and kind of worried about weight gain. Hang in there. You really do need the healing time before your first fill. It will come soon enough!! I had my first fill last Thursday and WOW! I already have restriction. So, hang in there. Nuali

    Weight Loss

You've lost weight, take pride in it. The average weight loss per week with the band 6 weeks post-op is 1-2lbs a week. Are you tracking your calories? Measuring everything? What type of exercise are you doing?

    Newly banded - 2/13/09

Doing great so far. To date, I have lost 16 pounds. I do feel as if my portions are bigger than they should be, but I am being very good about my food choices. Looking forward to my first fill and am starting to exercise this week. How about you? Karen

    Decision has been made

There are a few of us guys around. I had my sleeve done almost a month ago. Love it. I can see the lbs coming off, and clothes are fitting <much> better. This week I got my first 2 "outsider" compliments! It was exciting. My wife complements me all the time, but she knows what to be looking for. Good luck!
  7. I got my first fill yesterday. 2 cc's. It felt weird. I was starving and liquids weren't cutting it. I ate some yogurt to make the hunger stop. Today the Protein powder and frozen chunks of banana are getting me through to lunch. Patience is the name of this particular game... my next fill is in 6 more weeks.

    Shoulder Pain

When were you banded?? For abdominal surgeries, they pump the cavity with air to lift the skin and underlying tissues (fat) up away from the organs to have access to work. Post surgery, depending how much air they are able to extract, will cause pain first in the upper abdomen, then under the sternum, ribcage, and eventually it moves up to the shoulders, primarily the left. The only way to relieve this is to get up and walk. as much as possible. My daughter is a Nurse practitioner and she explained this to me. It should only last a couple of days, no longer than a week, typically. If you were banded way before that, then your pain is unrelated to the surgery and maybe orthopedic.
  9. I went for my pre op blood work last week and my surgery is Sept. 4th. So the nurse called and said my sugar is 290 and needs to be down by the 4th or they will reschedule my surgery. UGHHH!!!! I am taking my meds and sugar is being so stubborn. Normally my meds work. I even increased the dosage. I do not want to go on insulin 3 weeks from my surgery. Maybe if I start the liquid diet a week early and do 3 weeks instead of 2 and add more exercise it will be down in time.

    WEIGHT GAIN

We can gain or lose three lbs. in a day. Mornings you weigh less. If you are stressing over this the stalls after surgery might devastate you. It is a tiny setback, eat according to plan and walk in the park when you stressed! Weighing every day is hard on people too. Best of luck!!!

    Pain

I went through the same thing. It took me between 3 n 4 weeks to be completely fine. We're all different so don't sweat it!
  12. Wasn't sure where else to post this but here goes: To all the teachers out there: HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!!
  13. Congratulations on getting through the requirements! Insurance approval shouldnt take too long...a week or so. Best wishes to you.

    Pain

I was sore for about 3 days after my surgery and then I started feeling a burning sensation especially around my incisions and the left side of my stomache. It was SO PAINFUL and I could take the pain meds they gave me because it damages my liver so I just had to try to deal with the pain. I won't lie to you. It usually takes 4 weeks for the pain to go away. And whatever you do...avoid snezzing!!!
  15. I am having surgery Monday also and have a 2 year old boy to take care of who well exceeds the weight limit I am allowed lifting. So hopefully things go smoothly after surgery. He has been pretty clingy the past couple of weeks only wanting me so this will be interesting. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein Drink Inquiry

Hi, I was wondering about the following..Weightingtolose, keep in mind that your body can only absorb between 20 and 25 grams of Protein at a time, so you won't do much benefit (in my opinion) by having a 50g protein drink all at once. I have tried the bottled isopure and thought it was horrible. It's no fun if you've got to choke it down. I really like the AdvantEdge Carb Sense creamy chocolate. It's not bad and it even satisfies my chocolate craving. Hi,Could you tell me if the AdvantEdge Carb Sense is the same as the liquid whey protien test tubes? I have not heard of either and my surgery is in a couple of days. I live quite remote so was thinking of purchasing the necessary "stuff" before the surgery. I just want to be prepared before hand. Plus, where do I get them? For a few weeks after my surgery I had a really hard time getting all the liquids I needed, so the thought of having to drink the shakes was not appealing. ........I rave about the liquid whey protein test tubes wherever I go because they are a great option. It is a 3oz testtube, and you can choose between the 25g and the 42g protein tube. I buy the 42g and split it. I'll drink half in the morning and half in the afternoon to tide me over until dinner. By splitting it, I get 21g of protein at only 88 calories! And because of the protein, it really fills you up. A word of caution though--the orange is sickly sweet. I like the grape and fruit punch best. Thanks for all the good information, as I too think I will have a problem with getting enough liquids down. Shar Virginia

    Scar cream

Generally you can start using scar cream as soon as the site is superficially healed, so for the body about two weeks. I had good intentions to use scar cream, used it a few times and forgot about it. Most of my scars faded and then they were all cut off during plastics. After plastics I used Biocorneum.

    No energy!

I had my surgery April 8 exactly a month ago. This is my first week back at work and I have absolutely no energy! I am beyond drained.. To a certain extent I think it's normal
  21. I have been poked and prodded and have suffered countless indignities in preparation for my lap-band surgery. I have watched bloody slideshows and You-Tube videos and heard horror stories galore about potential problems associated with the surgery itself; yet, what did I fear worse than death itself? HUNGER!!! I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that during my Pre-Surgery Liquid Diet I would be starving to death! I worked myself into a bit of a snit at the prospect. I had a “Food Funeral” for all my favorite foods I would never again be able to enjoy: I mourned the loss of the Southern Cheeseburgers at the Penguin Drive-In, said a fond farewell to ribs at Shane’s Rib Shack, shed a tear for my husband’s gourmet grilled Rib-Eyes. I did so much goodbye-ing, that I gained 5 extra pounds prior to the coming of the Grim Reaper, bringing with him the Liquid Diet of Death!!! I did my ground work, you betcha! I researched and researched the most palatable Protein Powder. I bought a shaker, a new blender, and stockpiled Campbells 98% fat free Cream of_________ (you fill in the blank) Soups until I had enough put by to see me through a nuclear holocaust! I sampled this Protein Powder, and that, until I came to the conclusion that none of them are too tasty, but with some doctorin’, they’re almost as good as a Chick-Fil-A shake (without the whipped cream, of course!) I was even able to go out to eat with my family without salivating all over their meals. Those protein shakes are pretty filling, and seem to give me heaps of energy! The first day of the much feared liquid diet came and went…and guess what? I didn’t starve to death! I didn’t even get hungry! Another day passed…still, not too bad! The morning of the third day of the Liquid Diet I hopped on the scales, and was surprised to find that five pounds I’d gained during my week long“Food Funeral” were all gone! Today began the 5th day of the Liquid Diet, and I was down another pound and a half…6.5 so far! If I can avoid the Papa John’s commercial featuring the close-up of the pizza with bubbling cheese, I might just make it through this next couple of weeks alive!
  22. Has anyone been sleeved by Dr. Kuzinkovas? I'm having my sleeve done with him in 3 weeks. How was it for you?
  23. So, on a flight this AM I grabbed something to eat that is a little out of my protein comfort zone. It was a fig granola bar with some chocolate in it. I hadn't had anything to eat and was desperate. Shorter flight so not a lot of options. I fell asleep and woke up actually vomiting/foaming. It was all over my shirt and face. My first concern is how the hell that happened. I also couldn't believe the person who was sitting next to me didn't do something...but whatever. I am on my second week of four traveling all week, back to back, and this is so hard. I see the doc on May 8th, the day after the travel is over and he is not going to be happy. My goals are basically to not vomit on myself and to just get through the travel. Anybody with a high travel job have any suggestions? I have some quest bars but I'm struggling with everything - protein, fluids, vitamins, working out. When I'm at home I get almost everything in without any issues. It's frustrating and I feel like I'm wasting a month where I should be losing a lot just basically trying to maintain status quo (or less). I'm not overeating but I'm not eating correctly.
  24. Don't be discouraged! I had my first fill last Friday. Before the fill I felt the same thing you are describing-could eat anything without problems (week 3 and 4 after banding). I have much better restriction for now. I know, though, that it is only 5 days out and this may change. If that happens I will get another fill...and so on. I think this is a common occurance. I used to think that you get the band and lose the weight- (before surgery and LBT) but it is more of a process than that. From what I've read the most successful banders listen to their bodies, overcome the obstacles and persevere! Good luck. Try not to give back any of your loss. I'm trying to enjoy the process instead of fighting it. Thanks to the collection of wisdom and advice of all the great folks on this board. Good luck. Let us know how it goes! 25. Have you used the sippy cups? How were they? I would have assumed they were like straws and straws aren't allowed after my surgery because it can cause gas the cups I bought just have 3 small holes. they are not spill proof and they don't have straws. I got 4 or 5 for $2.98 at walmart. I'm 48 hours from surgery so I will let you know at the end of the week.
