HOW DO YOU HANDLE THE QUESTIONS
NP_WIP replied to kla7403's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have just said to those that have mentioned my weight loss that I have a nutritionist, I'm exercising 5x a week, I'm eating high protein/low carb and I'm eating small portions and not drinking, all of which are true. So really you can say you adopted a healthy lifestyle which you did. -
Body contouring recovery time
kristieshannon replied to ClareLynn's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had my surgery (tummy tuck w/muscle repair, breast lift & augmentation and arm lift) all done in one surgery. I took three weeks off work and I work as a nurse. I still had some minor discomfort when I went back, but nothing that Tylenol didn’t help with. I was on light duty though-no heavy lifting for 6 weeks due to the arm lift. -
Food Before and After Photos

Random foods from the past week or so. The octopus shaped hot dogs were a kid’s dinner. 😂 -
Just a vent. . . I'm 2 weeks post op today. I had a bad weekend with eating. I think I did ok with water. But I am 1 wk into puree and did eat a couple slices of deli turkey which I won't be doing again for a couple weeks, because it made my belly upset. So it was my first event since my surgery. My nieces 16th birthday. My sister had soda, turkey or ham sub sandwiches and chips. I drank water and had 2 slices of deli turkey. I did better than I would of pre-surgery. So that was a NSV. But like I said in first paragraph it did make me very full and uncomfortable. That night my sister ordered pizza. I had some cheese and sauce topping and a couple mozzarella sticks. Again felt like I ate too much. But just relaxed for the rest of the night drinking my water. I now realize how toxic my family is on food. The stress being around them is hard. But I have learned new things which I feel this whole weightloss self-care journey is all about. Got home and right back to my puree and water. 1 more week then soft foods. Which I think I will do pretty good at. I just miss chewing the most. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app

Body contouring recovery time
The Greater Fool replied to ClareLynn's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
My abdominoplasty and associated recovery were both ridiculously and significantly rougher than my RNY, which was open. I had heard this was the case but I didn't believe it would be as rough as it was. I had the abdominoplasty at UCLA and spent two weeks there before going home to Las Vegas. I went back about 3 weeks later to get the staples and drains removed. I didn't really work in that period, though I did some remote stuff for a couple important problems. After the staples and drains were removed I improved dramatically and quickly. That is the short, sanitized version. The long version really only applies to me and would scare the carp out of anyone contemplating this. Good luck, Tek -

recovery was much harder and longer than it was from my RNY, but I would say the three months you mentioned is an exaggeration. Well, I may have had some discomfort for that long, but I could have worked. I retired before I had my plastic surgeries so I don't know exactly how many weeks it took, but I was pain or had some pretty significant discomfort for probably three or four weeks - at least with the lower body lift. Arm/breast lift wasn't as bad - but you're not supposed to reach for things for awhile after having an arm lift, so it could be a problem if you have to reach for things at work (this was hard to do - I caught myself reaching a few times when I shouldn't have been....). I didn't have a thigh lift, so I can't address that one... -
Fibromyalgia and bariatric surgery
Janice Flores replied to LindsayT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I was sleeved on the 12 of January. I have fibromyalgia. Before my surgery I was taking seamoss and collagen which helped with my pain. It's only been 2 weeks post op and seem ok. Can't wait for what the future has in store. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Body contouring recovery time
summerset replied to ClareLynn's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
IMO they are. However, everyone's different. I had lower bodylift and was in no way "recovered" after 4 weeks. I went back to work, yes, but I wouldn't have called that "recovered". Should have stayed home for another week. -
I would like to get extensive body contouring now that I've lost 170lbs and seem to be in a stable spot in my weight. What I'm most concerned about is how long I would need to take off from work though. I would like to get an arm lift, breast lift, tummy tuck and thigh lift, which I believe would be 3 separate surgeries (combining the arm lift with the breast lift). The recovery time sounds a LOT longer and rougher than the actual weight loss surgery so I'm having a hard time gauging how long I'll be needing lots of help at home, when I could go back to doing my WFH office job, and when I would actually feel better after surgery. I went to real self and they said * Tummy Tuck - 2 weeks until back to work, but ideally give yourself more time and 6 weeks to fully recover * Arm Lift - 2 weeks but really it sounds like 4-8 before the incisions are mostly healed * Thigh Lift - 2 weeks until back to work and 6 weeks until fully recovered I am not a fast healer and have chronic pain/disability from other illness, so it took me 5 weeks to get back to work from my SADI. I'm worried that this would be like 3 months of time off work total and I'd have to split it up a year for each surgery just to get the time off. Am I looking at this all wrong or are these surgeries just that brutal to recover from? 😬 I don't even know how to start explaining that much time off to my boss either.

I'm in another stall but other then that all is well How are you? -
I was "allowed" to take pills the size of a pencil eraser or smaller as soon as I got home from the hospital. I had to wait two or three weeks on the larger ones (and I only had two that were "larger"). One I was able to split using a pill splitter, so I could take that one after all as long as I split it. The other one the PA at my clinic said it was fine to hold off on for a couple of weeks. So in other words, I never crushed anything.

had surgery yesterday
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Nina35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had low pressure 100lbs ago and it's even lower now (91/60) and was told by my cardiologist that as long as that's the only thing going on then it's fine. My hubby worries about it but professional doctor has said all is ok. As far as the bloated goes that's the joy of post-op laparoscopic surgery. All I can say is walk, walk, walk. It will help your body absorb the gas and then last but not least the constipation... personally I would give it a week. Your body needs to shake the anesthesia and the shock of having everything re-routed. If it's really concerning you or causing you discomfort, call your doctor. My personal experience was I started out very slow and far between with my BM's and they were HARD, Like concerns I was going to pass out on the potty from straining HARD. I added colace to my daily medication and I have an almost everyday bowel movements since. I know others that use benefiber or miralax. You just have to see what works for you. -
1 week post op & HUNGRY ! Help!
HMol84 replied to AXR313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 Week Post-Op today. Yesterday, I just balled up on the floor and cried because I felt so hungry and weak. I had to remind myself that, yes, this is going to be tough, and it’s ok to feel down. ... and that my next snack was in less than an hour . Drank some water, entertained myself with a puzzle, and just waited it out. Feeling a lot better today. And have high expectations for this afternoon, when I have my first post-op control with the surgeon and the nutritionist. Please, please, please... let me add SOME variety to my meals! -
I had to crush ALL my meds for 6 weeks. I came out of the hospital off my diabetes medication and high cholesterol medication. The only meds I was on were my vitamins and mental meds. I got the chewable Celebrate baritric ones (search Bariatric vitamins on Amazon). They were pretty nasty crushed up. I just used one of my 10ml medicine cups, poured some of my crystal lite fruit punch into it, poured the crushed on top of that and do it like a shot with my fruit punch as chaser. So, so, so, gross. I also had to open my tablets (omeprazole) and pour it into my shot. So that was me.

Yes it is normal, after a week or so mine diminished and I ocassionally get the sound from my throat if I eat too fast. I started to understand my full signs at about week 2 or 3, prior to that any sound was freaking me out and I will stop to make sure things were good lol Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Learning the signs
Arabesque replied to Dan1131's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yep. Our bodies can be pretty vocal about what it likes/doesn’t like or tolerates/doesn’t tolerate. I was really happy when I was able to eat rolled oats too (instant initially). I’d make up the full serve (on milk) with extra milk added to further thin it too & I’d eat it for three days. 😁 Each day I’d scoop out the portion I could eat & reheat it in the microwave. I still at it very day with blueberries. Yummy! -
It took me a lot of years to figure out that I never knew how to do the " 5 pounds to play with " thing. I can do that now. I live in Southern California and love going to Disneyland ! All sorts of very not weight loss friendly foods - but there are healthier choices that can be made - and not just salads. There are really good soups in some locations, I am a fan of their corn chowder (vegetarian) and one of the Mexican places makes a yummy grilled half chicken plate that I share with my adult daughter ! I pick my treats and plan on having what I really want, whether it is ice cream or something else..... and if I gain a pound or so... then I know how to take it off over the next week. I weigh myself every morning... so that I can figure out what the heck I did or did not do in the couple days earlier to deserve weight gain, or loss. For me, I don't use much salt. And a meal out .... even a nice salad; can put pounds on me. Took me a long time to figure that out. A diet frozen dinner with less than 300 calories will do it too. Those are full of sodium and it does it every time. I cook with a lot of fresh home grown herbs - getting ready to plant my spring garden - will do lots of lettuces and baby carrots, radishes and beans and peas.... later in the spring will plant cucumbers and tons of heirloom tomatoes for the hot hot summer. Find the things that make you happy, that make your body strong and healthy and take good care of yourself !

I took meds 24hrs after surgery. It was painful for a couple of days due to post surgical swelling. It is something to speak to your surgeon about as they often have different requirements. And not all meds can be crushed or split so you’ll have to look into that if you have to wait a couple of weeks before swallowing meds.
-
I had to crush mine except for the MS meds, those I had to take whole. My advice, take them with something warm. I mixed the crushed pills in a shot glass with some well flavored drink and then I had to take 1 at a time, but the 2 pills that had to be taken whole, I took with warm liquid (usually broth). This was for the first 2 weeks. Then I didn't have to crush the pills anymore, but I had to take the pills slowly with warm broth for another 2 weeks. By week 4, I was healed enough to take my meds normally. And by then I was off my blood pressure and diabetes meds anyway, so that was a lot less than I had to take before (I got off all 4 of those meds and was thrilled).

Surprised you were at this stage so early! My dietician and surgeon don’t want me near purée until week 3 So many surgeons etc operate so differently!

I just wanted to share some Costco finds that are Bariatric friendly. I found these this week and they have made my meal planning super easy! -Sukhi Chicken Tikki Masala: 1/2 cup is about 145 calories with 17 grams of protein. The box comes with 2 bags. One bag provided me with three 1/3 cup servings and one 1/2 cup serving. I’m freezing the other bag for another time! -Sous Vide egg bites: one egg bite is 145 calories with 9 grams of protein -Paleo Chicken Sausage: 1 link is 160 calories with 16 grams of protein -Fairlife chocolate protein drinks If anyone has any other great Costco finds to share please do!

I’m 9 years post-op and this still happens! I was in a meeting last week and it was completely silent, except for my rumbly grumbly tummy; I actually apologized to the woman sitting next to me because it was so loud! 😂

No issues, even right after surgery they gave me 2 big tylenol for pain, and all my prescriptions were whole even my BP medicine. I had to wait a few weeks to start vitamins and 30 days to start birth control. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Roux En Y tomorrow
bypass24jan2023 replied to Christina B1128's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was so relaxed until I was sitting outside the theatre talking to the anaesthetist lol he said you’ll be ok I felt a slight pain (cannula being put in arm) and then the next thing I remember is being told operation was a success (the operation for us takes like 2 seconds haha) the one thing I wish I understood more was the two drains my surgeon left in - 1 through nose to stomach was fine no issues 2. Drain out of stomach port for blood was awful, just sat badly and was the cause of great pain for 24 hours until removed (routinely removed not due to my complaining) nurses thought I was being a sook but realised when the drain was taken out it was the drain. If I had known it was the drain and not gas, I would have been more forceful about my needs at the time. Overall though - now one week later - it’s pretty straight forward. Best of luck.! -
I had oro-dispersible or liquid meds for the first four weeks and then back to anything. I had a sleeve though.
