    Got A Date! (Sort Of)

Aaron hi there sorry you have to wait longer for WLS since you cant' get off work. loose that 19 lbs sooner than later per your doc - you can to it. the WL surgeon might have a cancellation, doc could sneak in - if you have lost close to that 19 lbs., dr. will probably bless you and say lets do this surgery good luck

    5 days post op....

So I had my post op appt today and from 3/10 to 3/24 I lost 11 pounds. Since surgery 3/24 to today I lost an additional 12 pounds. That is a total of 23 POUNDS!!! I beyond excited.... I am now on a purée diet and I have decided to start a weight loss blog called FATionista In the City. I'll let all of you know when I post my first blog post. I have a lot more weight to loose but man am I proud I'm on this journey. Sidebar: I made an amazing friend on this journey who had surgery the same date as I and while concluding my post op appt she was there to start her post op with a small gift for me. "In the end we only regret the chances that we didn't take."
  3. I'm 2 months and 2 days and I have lost 50 lbs. the weight in the beginning went really quickly.... Within a week I had lost 20lbs... Then it just slowed. I wouldn't loose for a few days and then I'd drop 4lbs. Then I'd be at that weight for a week and then drop another 3-4lbs. It's been crazy but it's still coming off. It may seem like it's not coming off right but it is. Hang in there and you will see. Just keep following the diet.
  4. has anyone tried interdry? i've seen it advertised on this site and a few other sites, is it any good for the over lapping flaps of skin/rash issue? it says free sample 1.99 shipping, was thinking about trying it out...just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it first and your opinion
  5. I feel like I have waited a lifetime. I was given a surgery date of Monday August 1st. I think my mom is more excited about it than I am. I was stressed out and wanting a surgery date so bad I couldn't see straight. Now I am just bouncing back and forth with my emotions. I am discourgaed that the best date they could give me is 28 whole days away. (though in my heart I know time will fly by). I am nervous because as prepared as I thought I was, now that the date is real, I feel like I have failed to do something or research something or buy something in advance. I feel dread at the thought of having to have the talk with my boss. She is 5'1" and all of 98 pounds. One year older than me. We have been short handed at work for the better part of 7 years. Lots of projects going on. She is going to freak out when she finds out I am going to be off work for a week. I worry that she will talk about me to co-workers. I hadn't planned on telling anyone. Yes, I would imagine given a long enough time line- my co-workers will NOTICE. A thousand little worries that have never entered my mind in the past year- suddenly set up camp in the back of my mind. What if I am the only person in the world that Gastric Sleeve will not work for? What if I lose all my hair? What if my face looks like my skin has melted off of it? What if I lose weight but I cant control it and I lose too much too fast? What if I am tired and sick all the time? Who will mow my yard- how will I function at work? I know I want to do this. I just worry a lot more now, than I did before the insurance company approved me- and the doctor gave me a date. Anyone else felt this way?

    Hello From Cali <3

Congrats and welcome!!! Awesome job on your so far weight loss. You should add it to your ticker. I also want to loose 120 lbs. I'm from Cali too not sure when I will have a surg date but I'm hoping Decemeber. Best of luck to you and keep updated.
  7. Going so much can really irritate you. I get diverticulitis and have had several colonoscopies and have dealt with irritable bowel and these issues on and off for a long time. When you shower try using some Massengil or Summer's Eve sensitive skin wash (with no perfumes) for your behind and coat your bottom with Desitin with Zinc or something similar so the skin can heal. Sometimes the Charmin wipes can sting a bit too. Keep getting your fluids in and so you don't get dehydrated a little Gatorade wouldn't hurt too until you can see the doctor. Sometimes you have to balance taking in a little bit more carbohydrates to get your fluids and electrolytes back in so you don't get dehydrated. I'm so sorry you are hurting so bad.
  8. I can definitely vouch for don't buy too many of one size. I bought a pair of size 20 jeans that are already too loose on me and, even with hot Water washing, are loose coming out of the dryer now. I'm going to skip the 18s, since the ones I tried on yesterday are barely tight and buy a pair of 16s in a week or so. But, I can now find jeans at Goodwill rather than needing to buy at regular retail! I'm really ticked off about one thing, though. I've been really working hard on the bike and walking, so now I have no clue what size undies to buy! It's not like I can go in and try them on!
  9. I started my cycle Monday of last week today is Friday, it's been 11 days and I am bleeding very have with large blood clots. I went to the ER Wen. and they just gave my birthcontrol pills to take inorder to stop the bleeding. I am concerned that I will loose too much blood to have my RNY, The birth control pills will cause my blood to clot more after sergery. I don't know why this is starting now, I was think that I could be my nerves, I want the RNY im excited about it as well as scared as *ell but, I'm going through with it. My mother told me that the woman in my family have a history of this type of bleeding at aroung the age of 40. I just made 39 in August so, I'm just in time for all the fun. Has anyone else experanced this or know anyone that has?
  10. I am going thru the process waiting to get my approval and to get the date for my procedure. I should be sleeping now but i can't help it i am so nervous. I have lost weight before like everyone elso but keeping it off is the problem. I workout now and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but I can live without it. I want to know is the pre-op shake thing for everyone or is it if your BMI is over a certain thing? I'm sure the smaller the liver the better everything goes. Also does the amount of tummy fat have to do with the pain factor also? Where the port is once you start to loose weight can you see it poking out? Does it bother you yet? What can't you eat, I know everyone is diffrent but just general ideas, also how can your band slip or should i say why would it slip? Any thing would be helpful....
  11. It depends on the person and the amount of weight needed to loose. I have been banded since 9/06 and I have lost 80+/- depending on the time of day. I recently set my surgery date for a tummy tuck, BL, BA, and lipo for June 08. My belly is not a huge apron because I didn't have a huge amount to loose, but I lost a lot of volume in the breasts. I went from a D to a large B, small C. Valarie To be related is merely an accident of DNA, but friends are God's apology for relatives

    Packing for the Hospital

Loose clothing to wear home....and I took a lap blanket to have in car. I had an 85 mile ride and the blanket allowed me to curl up and relax.

    loose skin and sagging breast

Indiogirl said it best. You'll have a healthier life and the option of plastic surgery so focus on the added years you're giving yourself and worry about the skin issues when/if you have to. Good luck!
  14. Yes, I was a very faithful LBT person. On here everyday of my life 10 times a day. I was trying to help newbies and now I think I need their help. I lost the first 80 pounds in 6months no problems. Then I started messing with my fills wanting to loose faster, then too tight, not tight enough and I'm a cash patient and 13 round trip to Dr. C's for fills and unfills so not too cheap. Well, my husband of 26 years made the remark that I ought to just have this taken out as it doesn't work no more than anything else and I had just wasted 20,000 cash. Really hurt my feelings so I've decided to just try to jump back on one more time, go back to the basics and when I get the cast off my foot start exercising daily. I will also be on here daily like I was doind when I was succedding. Hope to get to know everyone as all the people that use to be on here I'm not seeing them. Thanks for listening, Hugs to you all, Sherri

    Hi, Need Some Advice...

Well let me tell you of my success. I was banded on Oct 9,2008 and I am down almost 60 lbs. Mind you I am a guy and guys tend to lose weight faster than women. That's just the way it is. I have not Bp'd one time. This is because I follow the rules of the band. I eat six times a day around 4oz each time. Never eat junk, as my surgeon would say 'food is fuel'. So I tend to always eat very healthy protein and complex carbs. I also work out 5 times a week. Started the first month with just walking then after six weeks I started working out at the gym. Your friend is not following the rules and it sounds like they are too tight. If you follow the rules of the tool, you will lose weight. Start out slow and progress at your own pace. I was banded because I needed help. l actually lost 165 lbs without the band and gained it all back. So I said to myself, 'Its time to make a permanent change.' If you think you can just get a band and poof you are skinning you are mistaken. It takes hard work and detication. Good luck....P.S. Getting the Lapband was the best decision of my life.:tongue2:
  16. Hi , Just thought I would introduce myself , Im Nick alias Big Nick , hopefully to be Not so Big Nick from Scotland. Im due to have lapband fitted on 25th March and currently in my 2 week pre op liquid diet period, which to say the least is driving me bananas or is it I want to eat some bananas LOL, I wish :w00t: Im 43 yrs of age , married 3 great kids :frown:, been overweight most of my adult :lunch: currently 280lb 's. Heaviest 310lbs 2007. Due to recent health issues , mainly compression and protruding discs of the lower spine L1-L5 causing severe problems with mobility been advised got lose those pounds at least 70 of em. Having dieted before constantly and always fighting my weight , decided this is gonna be my best long term option to get them off and keep them off. I spent most of last year on my back flat due to the back and decided its a no go for sure, especially now its a no win situation , wont operate unless I loose the weight and possibly losing the weight may well be enough to relieve the pressure on my spine for me to manage it better without the added risk of an operation. Being a reasonably young guy , young family I think the best and sensible thing to do. Anyway sadly no insurance pay out .. gotta pay myself £7,000 ( about $12,000 US I believe or thereabouts ) , Hospital will be Ross Hall in Glasgow and Biatric Surgeon Mr Stewart. So ....... my mind is going at 90 mph , wondering whats in store for me , watched a few vids on google , so thought best sign up to a forum and interact with people who are in similar situation. I will keep the questions coming over the forthcoming weeks and get a grasp on the little community you have here Nick

    Frustrated

msdelicious.....Please, Please, Please, don't compare your weight loss to others. This is only going to distract, discourage, and frustrate you. If you know that you are following the banders rules, there is no right or wrong amount you should lose. Everyones body is different. I experienced everyone passing me up in weight loss. I got very depressed at the time so I stopped coming to this website. Then one day about a year later I came back. I seen the people that had passed me up a year ago and I was at the same spot as them about 2 years later. Did they get there before me? yes. Are we both there now? yes. Most of them did not lose as much as I did and had to have tummy tucks, arms, legs, thighs done. I believe it was because they lost weight very fast. I didn't. Mine was slow and steady and my skin was able to keep up with my loses. Of coarse some has to do with genetics, but you can't count out fast weight loss as a culprit. I may have taken a little longer but I saved alot of money and pain. Just wanted to let you know that it is okay to be a slow loser, it has it's benefits. Good Luck
  18. Hi all I am new here and have been thinking of gastric, but too scared for that one and will never do it. So I saw my cousin yesterday and she looks great. She has the band, but doesn't want anyone to know so she doesn't know I know about it. I want to talk to her, but I can't so I am here. I have never had any surgery before and am scared to death, but I have tried so many diets they just don't work. I refuse to spend another dime on dieting. I just need help with loosing this weight. I think I am going to call my dr tomorrow to make an appointment to see a surgeon and go to a siminar and hear more about it. My mother is all for it, but my husband is scared and don't even want to talk about it with me. I have a few friends who has had the gastric and he thinks they all look sick and are not healthy and thinks the band is the same thing. i told him I don't care if he isn't behind me on this he doesn't understand how I feel I have been fat for too long now and it's time to do something about it. Anyone have any advice for me I would love to hear it. also I want to know do you have to go to counsling for months before having the band. I can remember my friends having to go to counsling before there gastric surgery for a long time before they got the surgery done. Can you feel the band sitting in your stomach? Do you throw up a lot like people with gastric?

    Hi everyone~

Good for you! I was banded on December 4th and I am still on full liquids for another week:thumbdown:. It does feel like the best decision of my life too, but I still want the weight to "fall off"! I have'nt worked out any yet, b/c my port site is too sore for now, but I will soon. Congrats on the weight loss, and welcome to the site! May we loose many pounds together! Danielle
  20. I see there are one or 2 other aussies on the forum. I am 34 and just got banded on the 27th of may. I used to work in the corporate world but was retrenched in a merger. Since i was making a lot of changes this year anyway i have gone back to uni to do a masters in social work. This kind of work is more my speed anyway. Had my first fill yesterday. So far so good. I seem to be loosing about 1.5 kilos a week but as i am a far too hefty 150 kilos i have a loooong way to go. I have joined this forum because i am not really a face to face support group kind of girl. But it is easier for me to share the mortifying personal details of my life (like just how fat i really am) online. I guess my story is pretty unremarkable. I have spent a lifetime fluctuating from normal to voluptuous to grotesque and tried a lot of insane fad diets. 2 years ago i went for a standard check up and kind of hoped for a wake up call but it turned out i was as fit and strong as an ox (go figure) but the doctor warned me that relative youth will fade and then i will probably be up the creek. Sure enough I got even fatter and over the last year have had horrible trouble sleeping and feel tired all the time. I also found normal walking around the shops made me tired and climbing a normal set of stairs made me puffed out for the first time in my life. As these horrifying changes were beginning to occur i met a woman at a party. She was not overweight. She took me aside and told me that she used to be. But she had surgery (the sleeve thing) and it changed her life. I kind of marvelled at her sheer nerve but afterward told the party hostess and she showed me a picture. This woman had been very big, bigger that i am. So i figured if she could do it then so could I. So i upgraded my private health, saw the doctor and started the countdown. Here i am a year and a bit later newly banded. I hope this works.
  21. I too decided on the band. i wanted less invasive and a slower weight loss. you have a better chance of exercising and tightening the loose skin. But good luck and I'll be rooting for you

    Hair Loss

I have been taking be-beautiful hair skin and nail chewable vitamins from GNC. I'm almost 4 months out and I am not loosing any more hair than normal. I know there are a lot of things you can take, but these seem to work really well for me.
  23. Hello, All!! I had looked at this site back in March thinking that I wanted to get this lap-band. I have so much to live for and be healthy for. So here we.......look forward to talking with you all here and looking to you all for support!!! Thanks fro reading and talk with ya all later! - Ann
  24. Hi Every one I am joining you, it seems to be a nice place for discussion and to find answers to many questions. This is the reason why I'm joining you!!! Excuse my english, I'm french but I think that I'm good enough to talk and write in English, hope you will accept me in your Forum. I'm from the Outaouais and I got my lapband surgery in Montreal on December 4th 2009, a year ago. I lost 45 pounds. I'm presently having problems loosing more weight. My surgeon is in Montreal, and from now on, I can have an appointment in Montreal for an ajustment only at 8:30am in the morning and then in the afternoon the adjustment if required. I do not really like these new hours for appointment and I am trying to find another place to go for adjustment. I do really like my surgeon and it is sad for me to have to go somewhere else but it is very hard for me to go to Montreal so early in the morning.... If you think about a place where I can go, let me know. I just send an email in a Clinic in Ottawa and waiting for their answer if they want to accept me in their clinic, eventhough my surgery was perform in Montreal. Waiting to ear from you. Diane55
  25. Hello all, I just joined this online forum today because I've been having a bit of a problem with my band and was wondering if others out there were experiencing the same thing... I was banded about 4 years ago in June of 2006. At first everything was easy, eat until your full and still some how loose a bunch of weight. I found a good fill spot that allowed me to restrict my food intake but was still able to eat without having anything get stuck. I hadn't had any need to go into my LB doctor for well over a year when all the sudden my band tighten up on its own, so much so I couldn't drink Water even. Needless to say I went into the doctor and he took pretty much all of my Fluid out and told me I had a case of gastritus, well alright then problem solved I thought. Came back into the doctor and got my band refilled pretty much to the same place it was before. Ever since then my band will tighten up to an uncomfertable point every month around the time of my cycle. Does this happen to anyone else at all?! And how do I prevent from this happening every single month? I've a college student for crying out loud, paying for defills and fills every month is not really an option for me since my insurance doesn't cover anything so it's all coming out of my pocket... Also, I just transfered to U.C Davis in northern california so I no longer live nearly my lb doctor, so does anyone out there have any tricks to help loosen things up when your band is acting up like this?
