    Best YouTube Workouts

Im posting this here in case it helps someone else. These are the workout video creators I follow on YouTube. I am three months(ish) out from gastric sleeve surgery so I like to switch it up. Leslie Sansone-Walk Away the Pounds. She is the OG of walking videos. Her walks range from ten minutes to 45 minutes. The majority require no equipment and the ones that do have it as optional. I started with her immediately after surgery. Now to challenge myself, I do them in my pool for more resistance. The downside is she is EXTREMELY OVER THE TOP PEPPY so sometimes I've muted her and have followed along to my own music. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVl6ZdslZz2Zj-34bMJFPbg Burpee Girl-I just found her and I do at least two of her workouts a week. She can be modified for all levels. She has videos that are walking to Pilates to dumbbell work. Her music she uses is extremely upbeat and engaging. She also has active break segments in her videos so you get a chance to cool down in between rounds. She doesnt talk or explain the moves but there is a ten second preview of each exercise before you do it. Highly recommended if you're wanting to challenge yourself a bit more. I put her at an intermediate level. When I outgrew Leslie Sansone, I found Burpee Girl and love her content. https://www.youtube.com/c/BurpeeGirlLiss Billy Blanks-Tae Bo. AS a 90's girl, I remember doing this in gym class and sweating to death. He has his own YouTube channel with really good workouts. A lot of focus on kicking and punching, great for when I need to expend a lot of negative energy. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMGIp3jifsoufZv_y8_c1Qg Yoga with Kassandra- She is so soothing. I love her videos and do them on my off days to stretch. She's very calm and it makes you feel like you're in a yoga class. If you cant do a move, she recommends ways to do it so you can modify your practice. I am not a yoga person but the stretches help and she doesnt make it new agey.https://www.youtube.com/c/yogawithkassandra

    Food intolerance after wls

Almost a year out, and I still can't eat white meat chicken. At all. Or turkey. It will not go down. Eggs were weird... initially they were ok, then they weren't, and now they're good again. Hopefully they stay good, because it's an easy, versatile protein. Rice... two spoons, ok. Two spoons and one grain, 🤢. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Eating disorder

As others have mentioned, you don’t necessarily have to eat more volume to get more calories in. You can work with your nutritionist to get in more healthy fats such as avocado, nuts, dressings, oils, etc. If you have trouble with that, though the shakes would be a good option as well.

Milk and Yogurt pre op diet

I have 4 different “menus” to choose from pre-op, that is one that’s offered. I have a milk intolerance - I’m ok with a little, but to much upsets my stomach/digestive process… so I’m doing one of the other options they offer (3 fairlife shakes a day, 72 oz of no sugar added juice + 64 or more ounces of water or approved liquids). We can either pick one of the 4 “menu” options each day (if you want to change it up) or stick with one option for 7 days. Then on the 8th day switch over to all clear liquids. The nutritionist did say if we find ourselves struggling, since there’s no “food” outside of the yogurt (if you pick the milk and yogurt option) to call and they will modify the plan so we can safely fulfill the pre-surgical requirements and stay on track for surgery. Knowing there is a safety net if I need it makes me feel a little better, but I’m thinking I can make it through 8 days.

    Week 7

Hi all, Week 7 and still making progress albeit slow. I have no issues with any food which is certainly a pro and con. Pro- I can have basically anything. Major Con- I can have basically anything. If you stick with your diet, and eat protein first, you will fill up fast. My biggest struggle is my water intake. My goal is 128 oz but even hitting 60 - 80 has been difficult these last few weeks. Overall still extremely thrilled about the results and procedure. If anyone was on the fence about ESG, I recommend you do your research. Of course, it’s still a relatively new procedure but it has a lot of positives. 1) very quick recovery time, 2) extremely quick procedure, 3) minimal nausea and pain. As for cost, well that’s may be a problem for several people. It’s not covered under insurance but it’s somewhat reasonable priced compared to some procedures. I believe my cost was $9900 plus travel. Pre Surgery Weight = 336 Surgery weight = 330 Current Weight = 301 Goal Weight = 275-280 Yes, those numbers look high but I’m a pretty big guy. I’m slightly over 6’6”. Good luck everyone

    July 2022 peeps!

Hi everyone! Sleeved on July 20th. I feel this in my soul. Keep getting suggestions of food videos show up on my social media - thinking about just getting rid of it all together. 2nd year med student, kind of nervous with how busy classes are / nutritional deficiencies because its kinda difficult to get in all the fluid requirements (esp with the nasty protein shakes). Excited to interact with everyone in this community though! -S
  7. I’m not sure why since I’m a pretty private person, but for some reason I want to share my story here. Honestly even if no one reads this, I think just writing it will help me feel better? This first thing people should know is that weight loss surgery has saved my life and I have not even had surgery yet! How? Well it’s a long and winding story. Grab a protein shake and settle in… In January 2020 (you know, back in ancient history pre-covid), my insurance changed and started covering bariatric surgery. I had thought about surgery before, but my wife was set against it and especially considering the out of pocket cost, had decided it wasn’t for me. With the change, I decided to investigate it more. In February of that year, I booked an info session at the biggest bariatric center in the state. They let me know all the things I’d need to do before I’d be approved, so I started the dietitian visits, started booking appointments with all my various doctors, and just generally trying to be as prepared as I could. Among the approvals I’d need from my various doctors, one was with my cardiologist. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve, which can mean nothing, or can very serious. The biggest challenge is that over time, the valve can become calcified, causing an already reduced blood flow to become much worse. Since we knew it was potentially dangerous for me, my surgeon insisted we get full approval before proceeding. At the cardiologist appointment, he decided further testing was needed. By early April 2020, I had some CT procedures to get a better idea how badly the valve was blocked. Things were not looking good, so I was scheduled to undergo a cardiac catheterization procedure to see if I was a candidate for valve replacement via cath. Here’s where things take a turn for the worse. During the cath procedure, the doctor noted that my left anterior descending artery was 90% blocked. In the medical world this artery is known as the “widow maker” because blockage will cause a heart attack and the survival rate for widow maker heart attacks is only about 12%. I’ll stop here for today. (Yes it’s a cliff hanger, but spoiler alert, I’m still alive!) I think you can see how I can rightfully say bariatric surgery saved my life, even though I have not even had surgery yet. Had I not decided to have the surgery, I probably would never have had that cardiology visit, meaning I would not have known about the blocked artery.

    Food Before and After Photos

Someone tell me WHY I thought it was a great idea to do keto for a while?! Keto flu is gonna kill me! The walnut bread is super dense but delicious toasted. 9g net carbs, 17g protein. 18g fat. Excuse me while I now lie on the couch and regret my life choices to reduce carb intake.

    Plenity After Sleeve

I totally agree, a 10lb regain at 18 months seems not unusual after the sleeve. Can you go right back to your post op diet - protein first, veg second, and then stop when you're full? Eat slowly, no water for half an hour but drink plenty of water between meals? Are you tracking religiously - could slider foods or high calorie low nutrient foods have become the norm for you? Also, if you could fill in your weight loss statistics in your profile it would really help people to advise you.

    Plenity After Sleeve

Hi Newbie, I'm concerned about Plenity causing some sort of blockage. Is this prescription? Did your Surgeon approve? My first thought with blood sugar issues is are you keeping carbs low? How is your protein intake? How much water are you drinking? Try to get back to basics. Are you eating more that 1200 Calories? Also, remember that from the beginning of surgery, you calorie intake is very low so your body may have adjusted to survive on very low calories. Make sure you're staying within the calorie range your doctor stated for maintenance and if you're hungry all the time, try filling up on water and having at least 60 - 80 grams of protein daily. cutting back on carbs is a great idea because you tend to be hungrier more quickly after ingesting carbs.
  11. I had Gastric Sleeve surgery in January of 2021. In the 18 or so months since, I have regained about 10 pounds, even though I try to make healthy choices and exercise daily. In an effort to get this under control before it's too late, I have tried a variety of prescription medications to help curb my appetite. Initially, I used Wegovy, and it was a miracle drug, but with the side effects and the cost after the 6-month trial period, I felt it was unrealistic to continue. Then I tried Tomiramate, with terrible side effects. Finally, I began taking Phentermine, which has no effects whatsoever on my appetite. I have now begun to take Plenity, but I am skeptical that it will be successful. First, it is taken before meals in order to fill the stomach so that you can't eat as much. I feel that if eating large meals were my problem, the sleeve is already handling that; however, that is not my problem. My problem is that I am literally hungry all the time. It must be my stage of life (I'm 54). I am not really a nervous eater, nor do I really use food for psychological reasons. I am always at the mercy of my hormones. Like I said, I am pretty much hungry all the time, but when I have fluctuations in my sugar levels, I am ravenous. I have been diagnosed as "glucose intolerant" but I am not diabetic. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? I have tried all the dietician's recommendations (cutting back on carbs, packing on protein, staying hydrated, exercise) but nothing seems to help. I was put on Plenity as a last ditch effort, but it hasn't helped so far. I was told to give it a month, because people seem to jump ship with Plenity before it has been given a chance to work (though, I am not sure what's the point of giving it time as I would think this should work immediately). Has anyone else tried Plenity? If I give it time, will I get some sort of impact? Have any of you conquered this problem, and what did you do?

    Marriage changes post op

I have been with my man since I was 12. Over our 47 year marriage we have had our share of caring for each other whilst ill. I had a really bad time after this surgery with nausea and vomiting and it has taken a long time to master it with medication. He has seen me vomit for days and has been very worried. I was so weak and he had to take care of me for so long. If it had not been for Covid he would have been able to join me in all my consultations and ask his own questions and air his worries. He would have heard the positive answers and heard any input the nurse and dietician have given me. I am convinced he would have been more reassured had this been so. He always said he didn't care what I weighed and he didn't. For the first time in my marriage he has started to compliment me, I like it. I will be happier when we can eat the same meals again, I am only just eating protein and a tiny amount of vegetables and do not have any room for carbs. This limits the food that we can eat as a family. Now I have endless energy he can rest while I do the household chores once again. He has health issues and needs all the rest time he can get. I am so pleased that I can do this for him.

    Sleeve Post-Op Calorie Intake

I dont have a calorie goal; mine is strictly protein. I need to eat between 75-90 grams of protein a day and also match that with water. Im three months post op. Calories in My Fitness Pal vary between 550-750 calories a day.
  14. I watched it and it shocked me. About 20 years ago they took cookery from the UK schools curriculum. In my humble opinion it was one of the worst thing the government decided upon. All to save money. Its costing lots now because if you are not learned basic cookery at an early age then your only option is to go down the high calorie, take away and processed food options to feed your family.

    Protein shake recall

Can anyone help? I need to know how much protein and calories these microbes add so I can put it in my tracker. Yes, I have a horrible sense of timing. Some would say so of my sense of humor... if I had one at all. I'm sure everyone that uses protein drinks knows that mixing protein drinks too far in advance can likewise open you up to microbial contamination. Be careful out there folks. Good luck, Tek

Ha. Same answers, but it confirms it. Majority wins. As you said, focus on fluids and protein right now.

    Sleeve Post-Op Calorie Intake

Thanks everyone for the responses. I listened and am going to work on this. Yesterday I added a second Protein powder/shake, raising my protein from 60ish grams to 87. This raised my calorie count roughly 120 or so to 763. I also took in close to 64 oz liquids. I actually felt better during the day yesterday and my scales moved this morning.

    Sleeve Post-Op Calorie Intake

Same answers over and over, haha Every plan is different. Mine was: 2 weeks, liquids calories or not relevant and to focus on fluid and protein 2 weeks purred, 400-600 cal a day 2 weeks soft foods, 600-800 cal a day Once I got through the first 6 weeks, slowly reintroduced a "normal" balanced diet at 800-1000 cal a day until I hit maintenance. For the most part I am around 700-800 cal a day and hit 1000 if I feel snacky but make sure I stay within my plan limits. (Little over 4 months post op)

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up if it hasn’t been posted yet about a protein shake recall. Over 50 kinds listed https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/lyons-magnus-voluntarily-recalls-53-nutritional-and-beverage-products-due-potential-microbial

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

Did your insurance have an option to appeal?!?? I would appeal right away! I feel like a Hiatal Hernia is a reason for a revision. Praying everything goes smooth and this storm will pass! You got this!!

    Sleeve Post-Op Calorie Intake

As the others have been saying, plans are different. I was never given a caloric goal just protein, water & portion sizes. Best to discuss this with your dietician with consideration of your needs, gender, age, height, etc. & activity level. Though generally a goal like 1000 calories would be one you’d work up to once on solid foods. If I was given caloric goals they would be very different to yours as a short, middle aged woman who isn’t very active. I was barely eating 900 calories at 6 months & at goal.
  23. It seems to be a pre surgery diet preferred by UK surgeons. I would have been fine with the yoghurt but not the plain milk aspect. I ate high protein yoghurt & yoghurt drinks every day instead of shakes after the liquid stage post surgery to help meet my protein goals. Shakes are disgusting.

    July 2022 peeps!

Hello! I had my surgery 7/29. Still having trouble getting my full liquid/protein goal met. Pain seems to be related to gas or just random twinges here and there. I didn’t expect how different it would feel to consume water. I still have to remember to sip, not gulp. That air does NOT help the gas. I’m getting more and more every day, but having bad muscle cramps in my calves. Whole system is out of whack. So, I still haven’t had a bowel movement. No trouble passing wind. Anyone else have a delayed toilet issues post surgery?

    Eating disorder

Ah ok, it isn't your eating disorder that is stopping you from eating. There are actually weight gain protein shakes that are pretty good. High calorie. I used to buy them for my father because he couldn't keep weight on.. Also, plenty of high calorie low volume foods like peanut butter, avocado... Etc. that you can add to your meals.
