Weight loss stalling?
Sunshine Princess replied to eliojourney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Definitely a stall and they are annoying. I think I've hit one every 3 months. I get off the scale for a week, really look at my food journal to see where I am with protein and water intake, and maybe change up my exercise. I've gotten pissed with myself because the scale did not budge for three weeks but in the meantime, I had dropped a full dress size because I built muscle from adding weight lifting. To shift your mind and relax your body, I recommend yoga for stress and relaxation. Namaste. -
I am about 12 weeks out from the sleeve. I have more variety and fewer restrictions. However, I have noticed I stopped eating slowly. I still use a baby spoon to keep my bites small but stopped timing my bites 1 minute apart like suggested by my team. I think I stopped because I was tired of my food being cold after a few nibbles. Also, I would stop eating not because I was full but because it took so long... I'm a busy mom of 4 kiddos. So I really picked up the pace. I've noticed it's easier to overeat due to delayed hunger signals but I still have never vomited or been in pain. My full signal seems to be pressure in my stomach/chest area.. almost the same signal I had if I overdid it at a buffet before surgery. However this feeling only lasts about 20 mins now versus hours before surgery. My question is why do we eat slow? Is it just to avoid delayed hunger signals? What are the cons of not slowing down? I'm still pre-weighing my food so I know I'm not eating more than I would if I ate slow. Could I have stretched my sleeve already? I do consistently have the stuffed feeling after eating the last few weeks. Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

November 2022 Surgery Buddies
NP_WIP replied to Crystal Leifheit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Officially 11 weeks, so excited for my upcoming 3 month appointment, I know the Doc goes over important info for going forward and expectations. Yesterday was a day that I was having lots of head hunger, my hormones are going nuts having a period every 12 to 14 days, I'm not going to weight myself until the day before my appointment since I tend to get swollen ankles when having pms. I guess having multiple periods is better than going 8+ months without one [emoji57] Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Outpatient Gastric Bypass
bypass24jan2023 replied to Jenndk1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would ask if they do the barium swallow test the next day and where do you have to go for it? I had my surgery two weeks ago and the standard in Australia is min. Two nights stay so the idea of outpatient is weird to me but your surgeon and hospital would be professionals! :) -
im not a beer drinker, but i have sparkling water all the time (like maybe 5-6 litres a week). been drinking it regularly since about 2 months post op. funny enough, i never drank it pre-op. i was a diet coke addict back then. and no issues drinking it with me...but i may get burpy if i drink it too fast. p.s. i am a liquor drinker and have no real issues other than i get affected pretty fast (but i also sober up pretty fast as well) trial and error will tell you what u can handle...just try to take it slow...you wont know how much is too much until you do. good luck! ❤️

Around October last year I fractured my tibial plateau badly, along with damage to my ACL, PCL and meniscus and was bed-ridden in a locked leg brace for seven weeks. I was over a year post-op at the time, so weight loss was way slower and the chances of me snacking over my calorie limit was high, particularly with the boredom of forced bed rest. Still dropped two kilograms over that time, despite thinking that I was for sure going to put a bit back on. At ten weeks, your surgery will still be at its strongest, so if you stick to the plan you'll be fine. Sore, but fine. (I also broke a rib just before Christmas. I'm apparently collecting broken bones now 🙃)

I had my sleeve revised to RNY 11/10/22 due to GERD. I stayed on fluids/purées/soft foods advancing very slowly. I didn’t start solid foods until end of December (about 6 weeks). Since then I feel like I’m playing Russian Roulette every time I eat. Sometimes I eat and feel fine without pain or restriction. Other times I will eat the same exact thing, same amount and be doubled over in pain until 4-8 hours later when I finally throw up and the food comes up not even partially digested. Every time I freak that I have an obstruction. Nutritionists say it’s too much fiber or too much fat, but it’s not necessarily associated with diarrhea and why, then, can I tolerate it sometimes and others not? Surgeon is sending me in for an upper GI barium study next week. I’m so stressed that I have stretched my pouch somehow but I can sometimes eat far more volume without issue compared to some of these episodes. Has anyone else experienced this? TMI, I’m also noticing pale colored stools but the pain is on the left, not on the right with my gallbladder. He said my gallbladder looked fine during surgery. I just need this to work so I feel better and can get on with my life.

I remember that first week was a total wipe out for me. I didn't and couldn't do anything other than take naps and sit in the recliner. My kids were wondering if they needed to take me to the doctor. After about the second week I was feeling a lot better. Listen to your body and don't try to do too much. You'll be up and moving around in no time.

Hello, I unfortunately broke my 9th rib on the left side Saturday night. I went to the emergency room and made sure that they checked my stomach. Everything was ok there. But I was wondering if anyone else has broken any bones post op? Tomorrow will be 10 weeks postop for me. And did this have any negative impact on your progress? Thanks

November Surgery Buddies!!!
ForMyOhana replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, here I am... 3 months into this stall. Still 265 today. I feel pretty good. I did have a couple bouts of arrhythmia earlier in the month that I can't explain, but pretty good since. Clothes fitting looser, weights getting heavier, but the weight not moving. My doctor is not going to be happy with me if I don't make some progress between now and my May 15 check up. I have not been good about my tracking lately. I need to cut out the alcohol too... week days are good, weekends get me. I'm still good about getting to the gym 4 to 5 times per week and my diet is not horrible. I just need to figure out what to do to break through. -
I have an appointment next week to discuss revision of RNY. What do I have to say or do to convince the surgeon I need this revision??! I had my original surgery in 2014. I lost 100lb in about 8 mo. Since the pandemic I have regained about 50 lb. I am so miserable. My BP is elevated again, sleep apnea returned , osteoarthritis acting up. Help me please, someone.

Two weeks since surgery! (And my easy crying lol)
catwoman7 replied to bypass24jan2023's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had "buyer's remorse" the first couple of weeks. It's common - and people usually get over that pretty quickly. a lot of women notice crazy hormones the first few weeks or months of surgery (weird menstrual cycles and emotions all over the place). It's because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and it's released during rapid weight loss. It'll stabilize once your weight loss slows down. -
Two weeks since surgery! (And my easy crying lol)
bypass24jan2023 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My two week anniversary today (lost 10.4 kilos since my bypass, 22.93 pounds) and generally had good progression over the time. I’m shocked by how little I need to eat so far in purée section but presume this increases over time. Biggest shock is how easily I cry over emotional or sad things. Cried seeing someone who I thought might be homeless yesterday. Not that I was emotionless before but gee, this has been a ride lol I have had moments of regret and realisation of what I paid to have done to me. I doubt these will Continue past a point but my mind has been my biggest enemy, the rest, so far, has been good. -
mortality rate on gastric bypass is 0.3%, and it's even lower on sleeve (can't remember the percentage on sleeve other than it's lower). That means you have at least a 99.7% chance of making it through just fine. Those are better odds than hip replacement surgeries. major complications are pretty rare. The most common complication with bypass is a stricture (also known as a stenosis), which happens to about 5% of bypass patients. That's a very minor issue and is easily "fixable". I had two of them - one at four weeks out and the second at eight weeks out. They just do an upper endoscopy and stretch it out. Easy peasy. You're right in that complications, if you do have them, will usually crop up during the first three months after surgery (strictures do - they're extremely rare after that), but that doesn't mean you're at any great risk. It just means they usually show up early, if they show up at all. Lots of people on here have never had any complications at all. And again, the vast majority are minor and can be fixed. After the first three months, you're pretty much home free (that's not to say that complications will never show up after the first three months, but they're very rare after that). quit reading the horror stories. I read those too and they scared the crap out of me, so I made myself quit reading them. I've been on this board for eight years, and most of us have no complications at all or very minor ones that can be fixed. you are at much greater risk by staying obese than you are having the surgery.

Almost 11 weeks. The nurse did tell us if we had any issues to use a stool softener and make sure we are hitting our fluids. Some from my support group do a suppository when things do not move for a while.

Does anyone else have health anxiety regarding this surgery? --- I'm so worried about developing stenosis, blood clots, or sudden heart failure! I made the mistake of looking into the death statistics and the most common deaths from gastric and how it mostly happens up to 4 weeks after surgery due to those causes. Age range 32-54 and weight 285-400+ -- Likely overreacting, but it's a huge worry of mine. I'm constantly checking my incisions and moving just to avoid it. I read we're high risk up to 3 months post op. -- I had surgery Feb 2nd 2023 *~☆AnxiousMommy☆~*

Getting a sleeve 2/13!! Just had my preop class and one more week of my liquid diet and it then surgery!! -
I recently started supplementing my daily cardio with weight training - I am seeing a personal trainer now two mornings a week, I noticed in the personal trainer sessions I’m getting lightheaded. I don’t experience the same lightheadedness during intensive (Zone 4-5) swim or other cardio workouts. Im pretty confident this lightheadedness is an issue of properly fueling myself for a weight training workout. THE ASK: I’m looking for suggestions of what I can eat in the morning ahead of training to better fuel myself to prevent lightheadedness . Secondarily I’m also generally interested in what you all eat prior to workouts. - My current routine includes a Premier Protein and a protein2O energy at 75 mins and 30 mins before a workout as well as at least 8oz Water. - I’m 2 months post-sleeve and my nutrition plan at this stage allows only the following in addition to our protein: 1 serving of fruit and 2 servings of non-root vegetables. Additional background: Before you suggest the below I’m already aware of, actively monitoring, and confident these things are not to blame: - Im well rested -it’s rare I don’t hit 8.5hrs/night. - I’m getting easily over 72oz of hydration daily - I’m averaging between 80-100 protein/day. - I was active before my surgery and have worked with trainers and weight training extensively in the past - the work I’m doing is not new to me. For example in the year before surgery I’ve deadlifted over 250lbs. **** I’ve also reached out to my nutrition team with this query but was interested especially in hearing from anyone else who has experienced and overcame this.****

4 days postop! ~ ♡
catwoman7 replied to AnxiousMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the first BM often takes up to a week. First of all, there's not much in there - second, the anesthesia can affect that. And just a warning - the first one can be a doozy. You might want to start taking stool softeners or Miralax to make the "passage" a little easier... and just so you know, you may have issues even after this. Chronic constipation is a common issue for us (not everyone deals with it, but a lot of us do). I've been taking a capful of Miralax every morning for at least seven years just to keep on top of it. -
I'd check to see if they can put you on something else. There's so many birth control med options that I'm sure there are some that don't have those effects. I was on one once that made me really depressed - and I'm not a depressive person. My PCP put me on a different pill, and the depression lifted after about a week.

Hi KCuster83, sorry to hear you are going through this. When I started birth control after surgery I started with my old one, but notice how nauseous and anxious it made me, two weeks later I decided to try a progestin only, which is night and day. Hopefully you can find something that works better for you.

No energy 5 days post op sleev
KCgirl061 replied to Lisa M.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is what I experienced. I spent the first 2 weeks just sitting in a recliner sipping. After 3 weeks off I returned to my job and went straight to bed exhausted when I got home. It was another week or two before I felt like I had normal energy levels.
