I am filling out the surgical consent form and as am reading it mayor doubts and worries arise. I do not have high blood pressure nor any medical conditions. I ask myself if I really tried hard enough? What if I get complications? What if I don't loose the weight? what if?...what if? WHAT IF? I am super scared and in need of prayers. I count with all of your support! Thank you for your time.

If you love your skin, don't try Biotin, it won't stop your hair from shedding and it makes a lot of people break out. It isn't worth the risk, imo. The best thing you can do is create and environment that promotes fast regrowth. If your hair is going to fall out, nothing will stop it. a high quality hair Vitamin like, Phyto. Collagen supplements, and exceeding your Protein goals helps. Hair is protein. When I wanted to make my hair grow fast prior to surgery I always increased my protein.

Hi, Well I had my plication for 7 months. They removed it 7 weeks ago, But till this day I'm still loosing my hair I have huge bold spots that I can't hide no more only if I wear a hat, I started loosing it about 4 months after I had the plication done The Dr.told me it would stop. But it did not, and now that I don't have plication any more it still comes out like crazy. I’m taking Biotin, B12 Vitamins, and using Biotin Shampoo and conditioner but nothing seems to help. My Dr. told me to go to a Dermatologist so I can get Hormones shots on my scalp for hair growth. I think it was because of so much stress with plication complications .I will wait a little more on the Dermatologist maybe. Don’t know what to do

Congrats! I went thru hell too. I ended up doing 10 months because I had to start over with the 6 mos hoop because I had two appointments too close to gether but in different months. That SUCKED! But I finally got it all done and approved and had the band Dec. 2007. I was 250, went to 150 and now at 170 and happy! Trying to loose 10 lbs now. I got off track this fall.

Not Loosing/ Or High Expectations
Ms skinniness replied to realwmnhavcurvs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't give up hope. My pre-surgery weight was 209 and it came off rather quickly. It all depends on your metabolism. If you think your metabolic rate is slow, then do what you have to do to speed it up. Search the internet for solutions. Plus, the slower it comes off, the better off you skin will be. Your skin will have more time to adapt and will create less hanging skin. That is a big plus! Your doing just fine. Try not to worry or compare yourself to others losses. -

help need advice
Creekimp13 replied to brookehannah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 5'5" and 240...with good luck, your skin will snap back. At age 18 your chances are terrific (but not guaranteed.) I think about the tiny little 20 year olds I know with huge pregnancies whose skin reduces and looks terrific in months. I had my surgery done at 46, and was stunned at how well things reduced back into place. I have a few trouble areas, but I don't mind how I look naked at all. I was open to skin surgery, but don't feel I need it. At 18, I think you're gonna look amazing:) Best wishes. -
I was just curious to see how long did it take for you to start loosing weight consistently after post op? I know some people don't lose any the first 6 weeks, during the healing time. So when did the weight start coming off consistantly, was it after you first fill? Second fill? Thanks!!

The fat isn't softer, you feel softer cause the there is less fat pushing on your skin. My stomach used to be big and round and tight feeling. Now it's semi flat and feels like Jello. Lol. It does improve. I have noticed my skin improve and shrink back a lot in the last 2 months. (I'm almost 8 months post op)

BMI of 30 - do you think I would be approved?
Sojourner replied to avacosta's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to agree with the others who have shared that serious co-morbidities need to be present. I also would have a serious discussion with my physician as to the advisability of someone with your BMI to have this serious and life altering surgery with your current weight and BMI. The band does not come without health risks and a major life style change for the rest of your life. This journey is not the "easy way" to loose weight. I chose this surgery as a last resort to avoid diabetes. If I could have lost 100+ pounds without the surgery, I would have. I encourage you to learn as much as you can about this surgery, and have a serious discussion with your physician. Best wishes as you consider your options. -
If you do a search on this topic you will find hundreds of posts on this topic. I know as a newbie loose skin and hair loss were two of the biggies that concerned me. I recently went back and posted a picture of myself 11 months out from surgery exposing all of my goods on an thread titled - "My top 10 ways to prevent loose skin." I'm convinced genetics and how long you spent over weight have the most influence on whether or not you will have excess skin. I also was a sloooow loser. I once read it takes skin 2-3 months to adjust every time you lose. There were times my thighs look horrific and a few months later they snapped back into place. If you lose too much too quickly, your skin may newer fully snap back. My loose skin is limited to my lower stomach. I have had two very large babies and my lower abdomen had Freddy Kruger stretch marks on it. There is no way that's going back to normal without a tummy tuck! There's likely some tell-take signs you will have loose skin in areas. For example, if you have fat pockets that start right above your elbows, you will probably have bat wings. I carried most of my excess weight in my mid-section, so it doesn't surprise me this is where I have excess skin. It doesn't look bad standing up, but when I bend over, I look like I would whelp a litter of puppies! What I can tell you is part of this journey is accepting our new bodies. I decided to post a pic of myself exposed because I noticed most people are wearing pants and long shirts in their after photos on this site. It always made me wonder what was lurking underneath. Many of us will be left with more excess skin than what we are comfortable with. Some can afford plastics. Many cant. Regardless, I wouldn't trade the new active lifestyle I live for anything. For reference, I am a woman in my mid-40's. 5'7" and was 241 at my heaviest. I was 226 the day of surgery. I was 152 when I took this picture a few days ago. I am currently 7 pounds away from my stretch goal of 145. I haven't exercised with much consistently during the 11 months post surgery. I took this photo as my "before" picture and hope to see how tone I can get after I start doing squats, sit-ups, and lifting weights! I have to say I'm a tad more motivated now that I can actually SEE my muscles! Who would have thunk I had abdominal muscles? Albeit pretty separated post child-bearing, I'm sure!

I agree with the stretch mark theory. I lost 100 pounds in 5 months (112 lbs since pre op diet) and have loose skin in only the one place I had stretch marks, my lower abdomen. The reason stretch marks reside there was due to a past pregnancy in which I gained 70 pounds in a short period of time.. The stretch marks were flat and faded, but the area refuses to flatten back out. I was worried about my chest, but it has improved slightly in the past few weeks. I'm going to give it more time, especially after I hit my goal weight. My friend had some results tightening up sagging skin with a silicone body wrap she wore under her clothes everyday for awhile. You have to be quite consistent with it and it's not cheap.

So I have noticed that my clothes were getting loose and things seemed to be getting smaller on my body but that dang scale was not budging. I was discouraged big time. Then came my gallbladder surgery last week Friday and I had all the fluids and swelling so I have been in the dumps for a while. I was wondering what gives. Then this morning I step on the scale and IT MOVED DOWN!!!! 155! I'm so happy!!! I know it's just one pound but that how it starts and by the end of 7 days I know I will be down at least 5!!

I've read that your end result will look the same no matter how slow or fast you lose the weight. Your body (or skin) may not snap back if it takes you two years or 6 months to loose excess weight. Your skin has more time to catch up when you lose slowly, however. It just takes the skin a little longer to shrink when you lose quickly. It doesn't mean it will never shrink.

Excess Skin
changingmylife4ver replied to Sinfulsimone's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Can't gauge yourself off of others. I was 59, my height is 5', and I weighed 291. I am now 61 and weigh 137. I have lots of excess skin. However, I have weighed over 300 most of my adulthood. My stomach area has always been very big around and I have always had thick legs even as a teen because of my height. No amount of toning exercise will get rid of excess skin. Ask a trainer. You can tone underneath. -

So I had my post op appt today and from 3/10 to 3/24 I lost 11 pounds. Since surgery 3/24 to today I lost an additional 12 pounds. That is a total of 23 POUNDS!!! I beyond excited.... I am now on a purée diet and I have decided to start a weight loss blog called FATionista In the City. I'll let all of you know when I post my first blog post. I have a lot more weight to loose but man am I proud I'm on this journey. Sidebar: I made an amazing friend on this journey who had surgery the same date as I and while concluding my post op appt she was there to start her post op with a small gift for me. "In the end we only regret the chances that we didn't take."

4 1/2 weeks post op... I have a question!
hb5484 replied to Marathongirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 2 months and 2 days and I have lost 50 lbs. the weight in the beginning went really quickly.... Within a week I had lost 20lbs... Then it just slowed. I wouldn't loose for a few days and then I'd drop 4lbs. Then I'd be at that weight for a week and then drop another 3-4lbs. It's been crazy but it's still coming off. It may seem like it's not coming off right but it is. Hang in there and you will see. Just keep following the diet. -
I feel like I have waited a lifetime. I was given a surgery date of Monday August 1st. I think my mom is more excited about it than I am. I was stressed out and wanting a surgery date so bad I couldn't see straight. Now I am just bouncing back and forth with my emotions. I am discourgaed that the best date they could give me is 28 whole days away. (though in my heart I know time will fly by). I am nervous because as prepared as I thought I was, now that the date is real, I feel like I have failed to do something or research something or buy something in advance. I feel dread at the thought of having to have the talk with my boss. She is 5'1" and all of 98 pounds. One year older than me. We have been short handed at work for the better part of 7 years. Lots of projects going on. She is going to freak out when she finds out I am going to be off work for a week. I worry that she will talk about me to co-workers. I hadn't planned on telling anyone. Yes, I would imagine given a long enough time line- my co-workers will NOTICE. A thousand little worries that have never entered my mind in the past year- suddenly set up camp in the back of my mind. What if I am the only person in the world that Gastric Sleeve will not work for? What if I lose all my hair? What if my face looks like my skin has melted off of it? What if I lose weight but I cant control it and I lose too much too fast? What if I am tired and sick all the time? Who will mow my yard- how will I function at work? I know I want to do this. I just worry a lot more now, than I did before the insurance company approved me- and the doctor gave me a date. Anyone else felt this way?
