Looking for Inspiring Stories - Gastric Bypass Journeys!

Congratulations on your new you! My RNY surgery was August 12, 2021. My biggest fear before WLS was maintenance. I kept loosing until 2yrs, 3mo. There were a number of stalls, a couple of gains, but maintenance isn’t that bad. The stats are in the file on here, but I lost 75lbs before surgery, and 75lbs after. My tops are the same size as when I was 5’7” and 140lbs at age 20 so I think I’m there (I’ve aged and shrunk, and acquired a load of skin since then. It all hangs around my belly apron and above my knees.) I’m 56yrs old and love being active and staying active is my passion. The trick is to find activities you love, then let yourself obsess over them! The secret to my maintenance is smell. I have wicked allergies and noticed I loose weight easily when I can’t smell anything. So, I “forget” to take my nasal spray, or wear a mask with peppermint scent in it. Viola, 5-10 lbs falls off in a week. Thankfully, I also dump on sugar so I don’t need to do the smell trick often :) -
No butt at all but big belly and sliding pants!
beckyboop74 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering if any one else has this problem. I have always had a flat butt but it is way worse now and all my pants slide down in the back. Regular button fly pants and shorts are the worst because I can't get them to stop. My belly is extremely big so the pants are very loose in the back, even at the waist but they fit or are tight in the front. I know I could do a belt but that woudln't be comfortable with my big belly right now. Has anyone ever used anything to pinch the material in back up? I am not even sure if I can find a belt to fit me, it has been so long since anyone has. I am afraid that the best would just cinch the front more and dig into my skin. I am proportioned really weird - skinny legs, smaller arms but big boobs and big belly but my back and butt are losing the weight faster than the front. It feels like I could wear one size in the front and one in the back! -
I'm Overweight!

It is one of those really hard things isn't it! I genuinely think that there should be more of a remit for skin removal on the NHS following massive weight loss - it is so often detrimental to the individual's MH & sometimes their physical health too. I have gone from a 40GG bra size, to a 34FF and my boobs are sagging and under my right breast I have had this awful rash that doesn't go away - I think because of the excess skin!! -

I’ve recently hit the one year mark since my VSG. While I’ve reached goal much earlier on, I feel the past few months have been really transformative. My body composition has improved so much, I look lean, my abs are visible, my arms and legs are defined and I feel so good. My biggest fear (the culprit to not considering VSG earlier) was that I won’t be able to workout as intensely or lift heavy, and that my muscles will wither and die, which couldn’t be farthest from the truth. I workout almost daily, I lift heavy and have excellent muscle tone. I am also so grateful that I don’t have loose skin and don’t need plastics! Life is so much better in every way. I would do it every year if need be. So grateful ❤️ before: After: -
My initial goal was to be 199lbs, that would've gotten me to 30bmi, then once I got there and I kept loosing I figured okay....I want to get new boobs and a tummy tuck what BMI would be the best and weight would allow me to get the best and safest results. So I dropped my goal to 180 then 170 and I kept it there. I now teeter between 163-170 and have been for a few months. Now that I got boobs I'm looking more at 168-172 but I super happy with how I look and feel, although I cannot wait to get back into the gym and loose just a couple more pounds to give me that wiggle room. Scale is just one factor that shows success but its not THE factor. (I have to tell myself that all the time lol)

I started my pre-surgery diet just over a week ago, planning to be on it for four weeks - my surgery date is April 15th. After loosing a couple of kilos rapidly at the start that I assume were mostly water, I actually haven't lost any weight despite sticking to this pretty restrictive diet. I'm a bit confused about how that is possible, on the one hand, and worried that I won't be ready for surgery at this rate. Did anybody else experience this at the start of their LRD?

Hey everyone! I'm 2.7 years post op. I've maintained about a 140 lb weight loss. I have a lot of loose skin and I honestly feel like I can't fully enjoy my body until I get some of this skin off. The problem is I can't afford it. I spent everything on the surgery (insurance didn't cover) and I'm not making much money right now because I decided to go back to school. I am currently living in Texas. I would love to know how some of you paid for your plastics. Was it hard to make payments? What options are there usually? I'd like to get my belly skin, breasts and arms lifted. I am just looking at arms right now and just that alone is $14000. I just need any ideas or out-of-the-box suggestions. The weight loss surgery and weight loss/maintenance was one thing, but making this next step happen feels impossible sometimes.

Anyone else change their style a lot since WLS?
summerseeker replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You are rocking your look. Very Amy Winehouse but with colour. Bet you turn heads. VaVa Voom lady. My biggest change is colour too. My go to colour is red. A big change from the - did not want to be seen fat person who thought black hid her. Yesterday it was a gorgeous summer day here and I had on a red minidress and as I had just returned from abroad I had a great tan. Heads were spinning. Ha, I loves it. I am 66 Ha. I think my biggest change has been the ' I don't give a f**k what you think' Confidence is a wonderful. I wore a bikini for the first time ever this holiday. I chose one with a little skirt to hide my extra skin but felt fine. Well done us. -
What's okay to make once you graduate to mush
Arabesque replied to Misa_Misa_9392's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Add gravy or stock when you puree any chicken, beef, etc. It will help keep it to at least a nice dollopy texture and will boost the flavour. Honestiy for the two weeks I ate mostly the same things. It was only two weeks so I could put up with to the limited variety. I pureed a few things but many tasted quite repulsive to me. Plus I wasn’t all that interested in food or eating. I mostly survived on instant oats, yoghurt, extra soft scrambled eggs & soups. I’m surprised by the no fruit or vegetables too. Coarse or fibrous ones are a big no as are any seeds or skins but certainly any you can blend to a smooth puree are usually fine. Think apple sauce, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, potatoes, tomato puree (for flavour) etc. Plans can be different but may be ask for more clarification from your team. All the best. -

Wow, first of all, congratulations on your incredible success and maintaining such a fantastic weight range for so long! It's truly inspiring to hear how you've stayed on top of it, especially noticing the 20 lbs gain and taking charge of it so quickly—kudos to you for that! 💪 I’m curious, how long did it take you on Mounjaro to lose those 20 lbs? It’s so impressive how proactive you’ve been, and it's encouraging to see how effective it was for you! I’m definitely considering some work down the line after I hit my perfect weight—a boob lift for sure, and then I’ll reassess the loose skin situation. I think it’s so amazing that you’ve embraced becoming a ‘brand new you’—I’m excited to see where my own journey takes me! I do have a bit of a fear of NOT losing, even though my weight loss has been steady so far. Did you ever have moments of doubt, or did it feel smooth all the way for you? -
Slowing Down 😶🌫️
learn2cook replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kept loosing until the 2yr 4 months mark. Stuff will get very stressful at work and extra pounds just peel off. Extra holiday foods come in and pounds go on (a bit). You will loose weight as long as you’re in a deficit. You are doing great. Also, there’s a reason doctors no longer tell terminal patients that they have x amount to live, because it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Your new intestinal system will work for you even in maintenance. It honestly keeps working. You got this! -
Hi! I am 51 years old, turning 52 in April. I had the duodenal switch loop surgery on 10/31/23 when I was 50.5 years old. Like many people, I regret having the WLS sooner. Even with the complications that happened post op. I am excited also because I am scheduled for excess skin removal in 3/17/25!

I was just thinking about this. So looked it up on a bmi calculator. I will at least know my health is better and I have a greater chance of living longer if I get to the 160s. Yes, less than that will be great also. And had a follow up today. Went well. I speak with the plastic surgeon about skin removal on my stomach in 7 more months (at year mark) and have to have weighed about the same for 6 months, so at 18 months is when they'll consider surgery. Excited about that as well. Would love to hear your experiences with getting under being obese and also about plastic surgery. I heard Aetna will cover it. But no telling until we get to that point. Not going to worry much about it right now. Happy to be in the 180s after being in the 220-250 range most of my life. 🤗💗

59 here, 60 in a few months. In the pre-op diet phase. Need to loose 13 pounds before surgery, BUT haven’t seen anyone yet but the doctor so several more spots to go. Kim

I have two weddings in December. Been on the hunt for a nice fitting dress and bought this for one of them. It’s navy but looks black in the picture. I ordered it in the smallest size available (XXS, 0 whatever you want to call it) and unfortunately it was loose on the waist and the hips, I altered it but it’s still a tad loose. Love it nonetheless and thinking of getting it in other colors.

Isn't it wonderful how loosing a ton of weight can give a person so much confidence. I love that about me too. I promise the butt ache will dissipate eventually and fade away. Happy new year

Wow 20 kgs, thats really good. I am so pleased for you that its going so well. Lots of people loose slow when they have had this surgery so don't worry about that. Its the end that matters. I am maintaining now. Its tougher than I thought and my scared fat brain needs to weigh in every day and monitor what is going in my mouth. But I love my new life. I am free of the fat and my mobility is through the roof. I no longer have the eyes that watch my every heavy move because I was always the biggest in the room. Great to hear from you x -
I do think I had/have an addiction to using food for dealing with negative emotions. It took a lot of therapy. I recently had some bad news, and found myself ruminating on where I could take a walk outside. So, I’m glad I seem to have transferred to exercise, but I enjoy making music too (not very good, just fun). So, there is help. I loosely follow a 12 step for over eaters and surrender to a higher power. After surgery the “food noise” is gone, and I choose to waste my negative brain space by envisioning exploring outside. My actual time outside is 5-60 minutes, nothing that is destructive. The transfer is more about ruminating. That’s just what works for me. Addiction is tricky and strong, and very individual. Peace.

It's amazing how during the week, your weight fluctuates really badly like 2kgs up but one week exactly on the official weigh in. I am 1 kg down! 96.7 kg today! I really thght my loss would've been faster like at least 2kgs a week but I'm happy! Less loose skin, more sustainable so yay
