Hi! I've been reading your journal. It's very interesting. I haven't been though the exact same problems but I really feel for you. I have fought and fought with doctors the last 10 years and they have no respect. I'm tired of begin handed one medicine after another without any care for what is causing the symptons. I've dieted and dieted and all I get is blank stares from the doctor that I must not be doing them right because if I was they would work. I've pee'd in my pants for the last three years and they said "You're fine just try this medicine" I say "BUT WAIT -I'm young do I have to take it the rest of my life? What's the problem? They just don't know. My mom can't control her diabetes and they don't know why... they say just "Eat Better and try some more medicine" Needless to say I'm so flustrated. I have lost a few pounds since surgery so maybe I won't be a slow loser this time but I read your story and know in my heart how hard you must be struggling. I wish you the best of luck and that they find a solution to the cushing and take you seriously. That's the part I really understand is that feeling of them not taking me seriously. Sorry about the rambling above but after I read your most recent journal entry I was so overwhelmed with things I wanted to say and had a hard time forming a complete thought.

Clear liquid diet 3 days prior to surgery
chicogirl3 replied to JennsinCA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jessica, it all depends on your doctor. Mine has me on a 10 liquid diet, where I can only have protein drinks like premier, broth, water. Yours has you on a three day so I don't know. Who is your Doctor? -

BCBS of Alabama
GottaDoSomethin' replied to tmspears3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS Texas and I had no problems. The surgeon's office called it a fast track and basically as soon as I finish my psych clearance it will take about 3 weeks. -
3 weeks Post-op, Hungry?
Mrs.Bales replied to Rgreen99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES!! I actually wondered a night this week if there was really a band in me. I was eating sushi and thought I should be full now, ok now I should feel full, no really I should stop now and realized maybe I should listen to my brain!!! I think I need a fill to get my band and my brain on the same page. -
Typical goal weight for a 5'2 female..
vegbeth replied to Lema's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 5'2" I would like To get down to 131, a normal BMI. But my reaching goal is 125. The lowest I've been as an adult was 145 (for about a week) but hovered around 150 for a while and was a size 8. That seems large for my height and bone structure (small). I think a 4-6 is a more appropriate size range for me. -
I am so excited I can't wait for my surgery. I am freaking out because two weeks before I had to start the pre-op diet we went on vacation...I gained 8 pounds.....I have lost 10 since...but am afraid I won't lose enough before my surgery....I have my pre-op visit for labs this Tuesday....I am exercising and am on 2-3 protein shakes and one meal no more than 350 calories....I am stressing......

Sleeving in 3 weeks! I am excited!
Shedding4me posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've been contemplating this for years now. I had bilateral knee surgery in early 2014 and cannot exercise like I was beforehand and weight has gotten out of control. I'm ready for anything as I am out of shape and need to get myself together. My happiness is important and I know this tool will be my catapult and all I need to do is keep moving and do exactly what I'm told. I'm just concerned about my 'no gallbladder' situation as I haven't read much on anyone having theirs out years before surgery... meaning, is my body going to act way different than one who still has theirs. I know I'm ready and with the support from others I will get to my goal weight. I'm 57 around SW 280. My GW is 135. I've done this before without surgery and I know I can do it again! I borrowed this picture and don't claim any rights to it. I just believe it fits my hopes. -
Sleeving in 3 weeks! I am excited!
Shedding4me replied to Shedding4me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So I have a week to go before my surgery. I'm excited and a little nervous. But I'm ready. With my knee replacements, it has just gotten harder and harder to do anything without getting out of breath. Standing up is a chore so, yeah, I'm ready to do this so I can lose this extra 'me' I've been carrying around. My preop diet is fine. Not craving sugar at all! I did make some chicken and dumplings for my family and the broth was amazing. I did have a couple of dumplings which is my favorite thing about them but it was funny, I liked the broth more and that never happens. My new lifestyle will be so worth every staple and to top that off, I will be able to wear my jeans and tshirts again. I'm getting rid of all my fat clothes as soon as I am out of them. Not going back, not looking back! -
Healthy living after Band surgery
statebabe40 replied to statebabe40's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks so much for your advice everyone, it's fabulous to hear the success stories and tips for how I can follow in your footsteps!! 1 week to go and I cannot wait!!! Xx -
That does seem pretty low compared to what I have seen others averaging. Calories will increase some when you add more variety with solid foods. What are your Protein amounts daily with nothing but lunch meat? I am about 3 1/2 weeks out, still on soft foods, and average about 500-600 calories a day, 70-90 g Protein. I still have 2 Protein drinks daily, and meals are usually cottage cheese, tuna or chicken salad made with light mayo, refried Beans with cheese, etc...

I think I've gained about that much too. I have been going to weight management and trying to complete all the requirements for surgery since April so I think part of it is losing patience and kinda being over the waiting game. And though 24 days Isn't forever it still just feels too damn far away lol. I really need to get on mostly liquids next week to prepare. What drinks do you use? HI I had sugery on Oct 20 in Puerto Vallarta with Dr Lopez. Hotel is Casa Magna Marriott. Hospital is big and new about 20 mins from your hotel. You get compressions put on prior to the surgery. Nurses were wonderful if i needed something it was done fast. As soon as your able after surgery walk, i was up about half hr after I was brought back to my room. Im from Canada so I was worried about clots. The hotel is amazing, just walk lots, i had jello there and it was enough for three meals so i took back to room. They also have broth which is very good. Karen, Dr Lopez's assistant is wonderful and she'll help you wit anything you need. I stayed a couple extra days and I was fine, no problems just a little heartburn that was gone after meds were given. I went thru Alighter me with Janese, everybody was wonderful and helpful so glad I went to Puerto Vallarta.

Hi Everybody, I've been banded since November 17, 2006, at the Toronto LapBand centre. My doctor was Dr Joffe. I've lost 16lbs to date and still have 35lbs to go. The decision to get banded came when I reached that point in my life where I was sick and tired of losing the weight and gaining it back within a year or so. This was going on for the last 20 years. My aunt got banded last year and that's when I started my research. I weight 180 lbs, and my bmi was indicating that I was considered obese. With my family history, of cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, knee replacements and hip replacements, I thought to myself THAT'S IT!!!!!!! I must admit when I first got banded the first week was rough emotionally. I had huge regrets. However, with the concouragement of others I'm fine now. I look forward to talking to everyone on this forum(first time) and share experiences. Susan

17 pounds down since surgery on 9/22
*Lexie* replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks post op and am down 13lbs. I was hoping to be down more but I am happy for the weight I have lost. I have been stalled for almost 2 weeks now. So discouraging. I hope I start losing again soon. -
I am 2.5 weeks post-op and feeling better compared to the last 2 weeks. I'm starting to feel guilty that I'm not doing more around the house my kitchen is a disaster my husband works long hours and then he comes home and takes care of my daughter and I. Am I not getting in enough protein? Or is my body still recovering from major surgery?

Emend or other anti-nausea med for surgery
Sue Magoo replied to Who'sThere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi: I had very bad nausea after my band. Then 9 months later I had gallbladder surgery and it wasn't so bad. The surgeon had me use one of the scopolamine (sp?) Patches before the surgery. He told me they would do everything that they could for the nausea during surgery with meds. He sent me home with scripts for zofran and something that I could use by suppository in case the nausea was making me toss all of the oral meds. It ended up not being bad after gallbladder removal. Then, this past May I had a tummy tuck. Had all of the same meds and I had horrible nausea with dry heaves for the first 18 to 24 hours postop. I don't know why it worked with gallbladder, but not with tummy tuck. It may have been because I was having anesthesia alot longer, but I'm really not sure. I have issues with nausea with pain meds too. After lapband and gallbladder I didn't need much for painkiller. After the tummy tuck I took pain meds for about a week at bedtime but I kept up with the anti-nausea drugs while taking the pain meds. Hope all goes well for you. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue -
My throat hurt for the first week or so. I think it was from the tube they put in my throat during surgery. It gradually went away. I'm only about three weeks out, so it probably was better before the end of the second week.

Anyone NOT lose hair
mokee replied to Jellybeansoup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It did not start to come out for me till about 3 months. My nut said they do not know what causes it. I only had slight loss. It is about over now at 6 months out. I have been using shampoo and conditioner for hair loss the past month and I also have not lost any weight in the past 5 weeks. I am at a stall. Maybe one of these things is the reason it stopped. -
Shoulder pain from operative gas
Shirley Shirley Parr replied to trying4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did when I was at that stage. Walking is the best solution. Mine lasted for several days, maybe even a couple of weeks. -
I have completed all of my pre-approval testing as of last week (Mamo, pap, ultrasound on liver and gallbladder, echocardiogram, nutritional class 1, psych eval, visit with cardiologist) and got flying colors on all of them. I also have a statement from my orthopedic guy that I need to lose 100 pounds before I can have my knee replacement (we are all hoping losing the weight will mean I won't have to have the knee replacement for a much longer period of time). Now waiting for the insurance company to do their thing (Tricare Prime) and approve the RnY surgery (apparently the only bariatric surgery they cover). I was hoping for the surgery in mid to late October, but we may not have the insurance okay until then, then we have to schedule the surgery, so I'm hoping early November. I have a large and important event scheduled at work the week of Thanksgiving and must be back to work before then. Surgeon has me starting a pre-op diet now to get used to what the post-op diet will be like (primarily Protein with veggies). We live too far from a gym (and it's too expensive anyway), so hubby and I are going for a home fitness gym and I have nine acres property I can walk everyday (as well as miles of country road). I've been caffeine free for three weeks, sugar and alcohol free for two weeks, bubbly diet soda free for three weeks... working on learning to chew.... having time to practice the new habits and give up the bad ones is good, but not sure how long I can really hold out with out the help of the surgery. I'm worried the insurance people are going to drag their feet or worse yet, deny me. I started out 120 pounds over my ideal weight of 128. I've lost a couple of pounds in the last week thanks to the Post-op diet (but feel like I'm starving and craving sugar something fierce). Surgeon tells me I have no worries about being approved even though I am healthy despite my weight. My weight alone should be enough she says. Any experience with Tricare Prime?

My body is crazy!
pr_pitbullgrl replied to pr_pitbullgrl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
ate like crap all weekend. didn't work out. still lost weight lol. but i will get back on track this week and hopefully all will go as "planned". one thing i will say is i FEEL fatter even though i'm losing weight. working out is what gives me my shape and that tight feeling so i guess i have to sacrifice weight for muscle/shape. im willing to do that. i actually look like the smallest person in the photos of my conference in florida. that's an experience i've never had before. i want to get down 20 more lbs and really see what it's like to feel great about myself. i feel good now but i want to feel great so still some work to do! onwards and upwards! -
Hang in there. It gets better! I wasn't able to sleep on my side for weeks. I'm impressed that you were even able to try do soon after surgery. I'm now 7 weeks out, and feeling pretty darn good!
