4 Days Post-Op

I am one week out and still having gas pains. So I would like to know the answer too! -
January 20- Yesterday I had my appointment with Dr. Avila and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I had actually lost 54 pounds and now weigh 175. I did have my third fill at that time as I have been feeling a little hungry between meals. He told me I was doing great with an average loss of two pounds per week. I don't go back to see him again until I feel like I need another fill. Last time he told me to come back in three months so now I really feel like I am on my own. I will try to attend some of the support meetings they have the last Wednesdays of the month when the weather gets better, to keep up with how others are doing and to have others to visit with for support. This band has been great and will be a great help when it comes to the maintenance part of the weight loss picture that other programs cannot provide. I have not missed the foods that I have not been able to eat at this point, and maybe I will be able to add some of them back anyway in small quantities later.

I hate to say it but I think I am regretting my decision on having this procedure done! I was never felt sick after eating before I had this done. I am about 3 1/2 weeks out, it feels like it has been months. My surgery and recovery were uneventful so not sure what is up. I have 3 small children and I am always on the go with them I guess I just need to take a few extra minutes and prepare my meals or plan my meals out for the day.

I got sick at about the same time because I was introducing new foods..I backed off to liquids for two days then started introducing foods slowly. It does get better. I'm six weeks out tomorrow and I feel totally different.I'm sorry you're not feeling well...but hang in there!

I am feeling much better also, but I wasn't thinking when I posted this I also had my gallbladder out at surgery so I am sure some of my pain is coming from that too. My scale sucks so I am not sure how much weight I have lost yet Friday is a full week from surgery and I see my doctor on Monday so I will know then exactly how much weight I have lost . Btw good job on the 11 pounds and protein shakes are very tasty try the premade ones they seem more tolerable for my anyways. Are you eating at all? I am on nothing but shakes and liquids for two weeks. -
Blood Work & Fatty Liver
deb_fox replied to mufasas-mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Surgeon orders a routine sonogram as part of the lab work prior to surgery. They told me that a Sonogram would detect a fatty liver. It was explained to me that the liver is a very fragile organ that bleeds easily. It is lifted and manipulated during the procedure and they need to know if it is fatty. Regardless, the liquid diet is to shrink the liver and make it as firm as possible for surgery for the safest procedure possible. This is why all of my Surgeon's patients remain on a 2 week liquid diet before surgery. -
I have been given the ok to exercise. My 1st week, what kinds of classes or weights or other things should I be doing? Any help is appreciated.

Post op 2 days
MajorTwister replied to Mswonderwoman22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Woot! Congrats on your surgery. I am 3 weeks post-op myself. Gas pains will go away, easiest way is to get up and walk. Doesn't have to be far, but keep at it. A little bit further each day. Listen to your body. Protein is extremely important. For most, it's around 60grams per day, so the shakes and powders will help. I added powder to broth for the first few days after coming home. Slowly moving to shakes and other fun things like cream of wheat. Take things slow. You should be VERY careful about how much you consume, especially during the first couple weeks. 1/4 cup at max at any point for anything. Else, you're likely to feel the most horrid pains. Make those gas pains you're having seem like childs play. Best wishes Ian -
Thanks for the replies. I do have an app on my phone to remind me to drink. I have to leave it on vibrate mode while at work. This past week I've been helping train a new girl and since we have someone training the new girl all day, one person on maternaty leave and one peron out sick for 2 days, our 4 person team was reduced to 1.5 people. Which ment non-stop phone calls and data entry. I have to admit I ignored the buzzing on my phone or didn't notice it at all until I started getting that feeling in the back of my throat. In reference to Gatorade 2 does it really combat dehydration or is it just empty calories? And if it does how much is it going to take? I drank a 20 oz bottle of it both Friday and Saturday along with as much Water as I could get in and I'm still feeling the drying in my throat. My health coach also recommnded putting a pinch of salt in my water with the therory that water follows salt into you cells. I tried that once but haven't tried again. I don't want to consume too much salt. Thanks Any other suggestions? I REALLY do not want another IV.

Sherrie, it is very normal> I am almost 3 weeks. I slip a mushie in now. Just don't overdo it. I went for more than a mushie and got sick last night. Daughter fried chicken and I had a bite. That was good. Then I put up the food, that was bad... I took several more bites... I could have really screwed up. Just be careful and nothing unless it is a mushie and not much.

I know you are right! I had surgery on January 27, but came home with a picc line, and have been hooked up to tpn for 14 hours a night since coming home. It is 3 liters of fluid EVERY NIGHT , and I cannot eat or drink ANYTHING by mouth yet. My scale shows just about the same every day, within about a 2-3 pound range. It is frustrating not to be losing....hopefully the pic line will come out this week, and I can get on with losing some weight.

Questions about Exercise, Low Carb and Work Out clothes!
jlg posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ladies, Ok, running is out for me unless I want a black eye :glare:! So I am working out on my elliptical machine and walk on my treadmill at home. I purchased the Biggest Loser DVD's (all four of them) and those are fantastic. Too many lunges for me, but I do them. I won't even try the jumping jacks (the girls are too big:ohmy:), but what are you doing for exercise. Just trying to get an idea of what is working for everyone else on there. I don't think I am losing as fast as I should be, I know I am just at 7 weeks out, but the majority of my weight loss was before I was banded. I have my second fill today, but I have never felt any restriction since I got banded. Even the day of the surgery. I came home and drunk a 12oz Protein shake without any issues. I feel tightness when I eat something dry (chicken or steak) but that is about it. Most of the time I stop eating because I know I shouldn't be eating that much. Are any of you doing low carb (Atkins or South Beach) and if so, is it helping. Also where are you buying your work out clothes from, particularly a sports bra? Ok, I know I snuck three topics in this one, but just looking for some answers. Thanks ladies -
The stalls SUCK! Just got out of a three week stall myself, and nothing anyone said really made me feel better

Considering a LapBand. Would you do it over again?
SoccerMomma73 replied to pmommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just shy of 3 weeks post op so I can't help you out with a lot of this but I can tell you there are already times when I forget I've had it done. I just feel like me. I've only had 1 bad episode of heartburn, about 2:00 a.m. New Years morning after I'd had snacks I shouldn't have as well as sparkling grape juice...so, no more carbonation for me (luckily I've never been a big soda girl so that won't be too hard). I'm struggling with the liquids with meals issue but it IS getting better every day so I figure in a month I won't even think twice about it. I was on liquids (protein shakes) for 2 weeks pre-op then clear liquids 24 hours pre-op and 24 hours post-op followed by 2 weeks of full liquids, 2 weeks of soft/mushies, then another month of being cautious (no lettuce, peels, etc, most of the things you mentioned above). Weight loss post op varies a lot. The first week it melted off, then my appetite came back (damn the luck), I've continued 2-3 pounds a week but it's not as easy as I'd like it to be and I'm anxiously awaiting my first fill. I've had no complications at all an would do it again in a heart beat simply because it makes me more aware of what I'm eating...so, even if I don't drop 100 pounds this year I'm fairly certain I'll at least continue a gradual decline....definitely worth it! Good luck with your decision!! -
Moms/Dads? Tips on recovery with young kids?
Bndtoslv posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I am trying to figure out my plan for the summer (hoping to get my surgery in late to mid June). My kids are 3 and 5. The 5 year old will be in camp until 4 each day and the 3 year old will be in camp until 1 each day. My husband will take them to camp but will not be able to pick up most days. I guess that I need to hire a babysitter for a few weeks to pick up and care for both kids after camp? Does anyone have a sense of how long I will need the help? Thanks! -
Moms/Dads? Tips on recovery with young kids?
jersey_girl_86 replied to Bndtoslv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I am 11 days post op. I have 3 kids - 7years, 4years, and 2years. I was sleeved on a Monday and came home Wednesday. My husband took that whole week off. My mom helped in the evenings. The biggest thing was/is potty time for the 2 year old. I can't pick him up still. I was able to do light house work by 1 week. I'm still not doing bath time. We have had a lot of movie time and coloring time. Stuff that they can sit and do. I've taken them to the park a couple times since the weather was so nice. The older 2 are good at playing and staying where I tell them and I followed the 2 year old around. The first time we only stayed 1 hour bc I was becoming tired. The second time a little over 2. Slow and steady and before you know it you will be back to normal!!! -
Head Hunger - Binge Eating Disorder
Jennifer Ostermeier posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was diagnosed with binge eating disorder in 2008. I thought I had really "dealt" with it, but turns out it was only the tip of the iceburg! More about my journey here. I started the gastric sleeve process in May 2015 at Northwestern University. I have been impressed with the doctors, the nurses, the nutritionists, and the recommended psychological evaluators for surgical approval. In late October I was approved for surgery. With that approval came fear. Fear that I needed to make sure I had completely dealt with the hidden binge and overeating addict within. I needed to face the fact that there were many times that I was stuffed beyond fullness and I couldn't keep away from another handful of M&Ms. I am a month into an intensive outpatient therapy for disordered eating. I am kicking this thing in the ass. Next week I go in for endosopy to prep for surgery once I am released from therapy (in the next 2 weeks or so) I am happy for the journey and have really learned a ton about my head hunger and the self defeating stories I tell myself about the impossibilities of certain "glittery" foods. I'd love to hear about ways you have dealt with food addictions, binge addictions pre and post surgery. Both success and failures. -
Head Hunger - Binge Eating Disorder
Cheeselife replied to Jennifer Ostermeier's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at the beginning of my journey, surgery in a couple of weeks. Something which is helping me is viewing myself as a friend in an abusive relationship, with food! I can be my own friend, and it helps me face those urges to get back in touch with my old flame, inappropriate eating habits! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk -
