i was the same i gained 6 stone due to steroids for a condition i have but was put on immune suppressants as i could no longer tolerate the steroids. I thought i would of lost my weight after that but i didn’t and i have been pre menopause since age 33 with my condition affecting my pituitary and hypothalamus, so i had RNY bypass in january 2021, iv lost 3 stone so far but slowed down and been at a stall for over 3 weeks now. i have been getting pain and rang my team and they suggested it could be trapped wind so try something for that, and earlier on after surgery my bowel habits were not regular but once you start gradually eating more proper food it helps. and a few times the colour of mine were really light nearly white but this got better after i was eating proper foods. Hope this helps. 😁

I'll be eleven years out June 11th. I lost it fast and maintained at or below goal for six years. I've regained some, but not even half. I'm more concerned with another hiatal hernia (one was discovered and repaired when I had WLS), endoscopy (because of GERD) in Nov 2019 revealed another hernia, a stricture and ulcer. Surgeon made it clear he does not repair hernias, and I was not made aware of the stricture (what is that?) and I had no idea about the ulcer. I was put on a prescription PPI. It worked for two months, I had previously been eating 8 - 10 Tums a day, every day. I needed zero immediately.....and then started needing one every so often, he upped the medication to twice a day. That helped for a little while, but I'm back to needing Tums several times a week, although I do not need as many as before. I've been awakened with horrible GERD, coming up into my throat. I never did this before. This is new. I made an appointment with a bariatric surgeon/general surgeon, I'll see him June 17th. I'm not sure what to expect. Everything I've ready, revision to bypass is the best way to fix this for good. I was self pay the first time around, I'm hoping if it comes to that, insurance will cover it. Let me know what you decide. I'd love to know the process with your doctor. Tests etc. Good luck!

So I took the final step yesterday and now have my surgery scheduled for September 7th. I am so excited, even though I was originally hoping for surgery in July but the surgeon will be on vacation and I cannot do surgery in August due to work. On the other hand, this gives me more time to prepare mentally and read up even more on life post-surgery. Based on my extensive questionnaire I was approved for the mini gastric bypass but I am still considering whether I want the mini-bypass or the regular bypass.

Gastric Sleeve and Reflux
StratusPhr replied to Lori E's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Have you had the revision? If so, what do you think so far? I'm in the same boat you were. Great weight loss, surgery was in 2010, but the GERD has gotten progressively worse. Non-cardiac chest pain, trouble swallowing sometimes, I'm on a prescription PPI and it was helping but I'm back to eating Tums again. When I finally decided to see a doctor I was eating 8 -10 Tums every day. I had no idea it was a bad thing until I read it somewhere!!! I suspect the appointment with the bariatric surgeon next month will give me an idea of what the solution is. I was self pay when I had sleeve surgery. I hope Anthem BCBS will approve and cover whatever he thinks I should do. -
Gastric Sleeve and Reflux

I had it every so often, sleeve surgery in June 2010, and now I'm seeing a bariatric surgeon due to a hiatal hernia and GERD. I know that revision may be what he advises. -
Discuss: childhood dieting & related trauma
JonahB replied to james2021's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I saw the original post I actually got excited. I know that sounds strange but I had found a lot of other people who had been put on diets before adolescence. (A bit of background, I’m a trans guy so I was raised female, with all the body image baggage that comes with that gender. Though I am very much aware that boys get body image pressure too, I understand by personal experience what it’s like growing up as a girl in our society.) I was 5 years old for my first diet. My mom got the diet from my pediatrician! I wasn’t obese. I was a little chubby but active and healthy. I look at pictures of me then and I look like a normal kid with a face full of freckles and round, pink cheeks. My mom had this terrible fear of me not being popular or well-liked. I am naturally an extreme introvert and, honestly, more than a little weird. I couldn’t care less about being popular. I was perfectly happy to be left mostly alone. From kindergarten on I was put on diet after diet. I would yo-yo up and down the scale, always becoming more and more overweight with each diet. I developed eating disorders (surprise) that eventually just landed me with binge eating disorder by my early 20’s. I had a few years of homelessness and food insecurity in my 20’s that just made my emotional attachment to food more intense. By my 30’s I was solidly obese. By my early 40’s I had hit a top weight of 408lb at a height of 5’ 4.5”. So, now at 46, I am dangerously morbidly obese. I look back to that chubby little 5 year old and can’t help but wonder, if they had just left me alone would I have still ended up obese? Well, I’m currently down to 340lb and my gastric bypass is scheduled for July 9th. What happened to me in as a child was wrong but there is nothing I can do about it now. I have to focus on my future. A future that, with a lot of hard work and some luck, will be healthier than my past. Have a great week everyone! -
you're down to your original surgery weight because, like most of us, you probably "gained" weight while in the hospital because of all the IV fluids. It can take up to a week for them to work their way out of your system. I've heard of people "gaining" as much as 10 lbs while in the hospital! fluids go through our stomachs really fast since our pyloric valves were bypassed, so I'd be very surprised if you could stretch your stomach from fluids. Maybe you could if you REALLY slammed them, but 40-50 oz over the course of the day isn't "really slamming" them. I've never heard of anyone doing that from drinking fluids, and we were never warned we could stretch our stomachs from that. So...I'm not sure what to say...

Oh, Just Another Plastics Story pt 2
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Plastics update! It’s been so long I forgot about these threads Mood: Happy Current weight:154 (no measurements as I can’t find my tape measure) I’m still very happy with my outcomes but obviously I see little things I want fixed. I would love more fat grafting to my behind and some scar revisions as most of my scars became hypertrophic (I knew the risk and it was still worth it - I just need to have them revised at some point) I think that happens to many people post plastics. Plastics is probably just the next rabbit hole. videos of this years swim suit and showing scars (WLS and plastics) FullSizeRender.mov FullSizeRender.mov -
I am 2 weeks and five days out from my gastric bypass surgery (5/6). I was given the green light to stage 3. Looking for ideas of what to eat. I was given a binder through kasier which honestly is not the greatest for food choices. Please help. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Tomorrow is my official week since having gastric bypass and I’m struggling. I’m only down to my ore surgery weight and I don’t understand why. I also have right side pain that makes it hard to do things. I was doing great on just liquids and getting about 40-50 ounces a day and my surgical nurse called and was not happy I was getting that much and told me I might stretch my pouch out. She also told me I needed to add in the yogurts and creamed soups so I get 24-30 ounces of full and then 24-30 ounces of clear. I started adding in more full items and I can barely get any ounces of either now because I feel so full/sick. Is this common? Am I doing something wrong?

ChubRub's Plastic Surgery Thread
Darktowerdream replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@ChubRub I have wanted to say something and just have been overwhelmed and exhausted but you look absolutely amazing! I would like some touch ups too but doubt it is in the cards for me. Flat Tummy looking awesome it is a win for sure. helps make feel that hard work of the WLS journey was worth it. To see the excess skin gone too. I am finding I might have a connective tissue disorder that effects collagen so no amount of collagen supplements can help my skin or joints I worry return of laxity and already have some in areas (calves, back of knees, inside of knees) seeking diagnosis. of course there is more pressing issue to do with bones and joints and such. Just frustrating. I have not had anyone to talk to. I found out it tends to effect people who have had Gastric bypass surgery (digestive problems) so all signs are there since I am having major issue there even now two years out. likely due to this not the WLS itself. sorry went off on Tangent. I cant stay in a straight line. Just why I have not been around much. Keeping it vague because I dont want to take away from your awesome post. My scars are mostly fading pretty well and I am reaching my one year post plastics very soon. -

Did revision due to weight gain actually work for you?
meressa replied to JulieCab's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve in 2013 at 274 and my lowest was 170. I regained to 260 in 2017. I mainly wanted a revision for the weight gain but I too have Gerd and I didn’t know at the time it was caused by the sleeve. I thought it was normal to have heart burn. I’ve gotten back down to 233 in the summer last year 2020. I am currently I’m at 255. I’m having my revision to the RNY in about 5 hours but I’ll let you know how it goes with the weight loss. -
From what I have seen, you may or may not be off of insulin and meds immediately - I think your surgeon is just being optimistic and won't actually discharge you without verifying your status. My wife was diabetic, just short of being insulin dependent and under treatment for it for around twenty years, and it took her the better part of a year to be fully off all of diabetic meds. The surgeon explained that generally, the longer one has been under treatment, the longer it takes to get off of the meds, though there are some long term diabetics who leave the hospital free of all meds, even with just a sleeve or RNY rather than the stronger DS. Her diabetes is still in remission 15-16 years later, despite some subsequent regain and losses. A few years ago, we talked to a woman in our support group who had an RNY some twenty years prior, and now her diabetes was coming out of remission with only some moderate regain, so she was in line to get that revised into a DS to knock it out for good. So, it is still very much worth getting the surgery even if you don't immediately go into remission. Note that I am referring to the "traditional" BPD/DS, which is known to have a 98-99% success rate with T2 diabetes, rather than the simplified SIPS/SADI/"Loop DS", which is not as well established.

Are most people with a hernia and GERD approved for a revision? -
yea I don't think titanium does. I know titanium doesn't set off MRI machines, either (I've been in a billion research studies where I had to have MRIs - some after I had gastric bypass surgery, so I would have had the staples). I know most/all surgical staples are made of titanium, so those supposedly won't set anything off. The only thing I can think of is the surgical clips I have in my abdomen - maybe they aren't titanium? I'm not sure - but something sets it off every time (or at least those really sensitive scanners where you hold your arms up in the air). It's weird that the loose skin set it off, too - but it did - and I've heard of many others who've had the same issue. anyway, good idea on TSA pre-check - I'll look into that for sure!!

My surgery is this Friday, 5/28. I decided to post with the June crew, since I will probably have more of a shared experience with you folks. (And I'll be the first in the group to have surgery.) I was originally planning surgery last June, but stuff happened. My pre-surgery diet has been both shakes and solid foods, 1000 calories a day, 90 grams of carbs and 90 grams of protein. Five days before the surgery, they had me start an immuno-nutrition drink made by Nestle three times a day. It's made my otherwise tasty shakes taste like medicine. Too bad. Does anyone think they will notice if I have one last Whataburger the night before the surgery? I have pre-admission testing Wednesday, the dietitian consult Thursday afternoon, and I have to be at the hospital noon Friday. BTW, I am a singer, amateur but pretty serious about it. I sing in two men's quartets. They both rehearsed last week for the first time in over a year. It felt SO good! My voice coach tells me I should plan not to sing until the surgeon clears me for lifting. I'm hoping I can push that up a bit, but they will be messing around in the neighborhood of some muscles that are crucial for good singing. In one of my quartets, they asked what kind of surgery I was having. When I told them "gastric bypass," one of the guys said, "I had that." He's even bigger than I am. Turns out that before the surgery, he weighed 525, and now he's 280. It was a life-changing event for him. Now he can sit on the floor and play with his grandkids. I'll post in here when I get the chance, possibly from the hospital. They tell me I will be in for one to two nights.

Fears of Depression deteriorating post operation
Suzi_the_Q replied to Bariatric852's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just FYI, a lot of psych medications are available in liquid form too, which may help with absorption. I had to increase my psych med dosages by 25% since bypass (so far). -
So in a nutshell Before liquid diet 330 Day of surgery 319 09/19/11 CW 165 Plastics: brachio/fleur 5/21/2021 (weight after plastic, no idea lol) I am reaching my ten year mark in September! I just got rid of my excess tum and flying squirrels. I thought I'd stop here and see what's new and get some comfort and info. So DS is revised from the original, I have been doing fine with mine all this time but I wonder if I have to worry about anything now that I have the older procedure. How is everyone who had DS doing? Do I need to watch out for anything? Is there a plastic thread? I can't seem to find what I need. I just want to chat w people who got what I got and can tell me what they went through. Also, I'm here to give support as well for anyone who has any long term questions Hugs and healing!

Fears of Depression deteriorating post operation
lizonaplane replied to Bariatric852's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition, gastric bypass can mess with the way the meds are absorbed, so talk to your surgeon and have them discuss with your psychiatrist to see if your meds need to be adjusted to compensate for that. I have bipolar disorder and the surgeon and my psychopharmacologist both recommended sleeve over bypass for this reason. But I agree with @catwoman7 that it could just be hormones. Either way, definitely talk with your surgery center and get help if you're feeling depressed.
