    Frustrated and at a loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so greatful you brought this experiance to the forum. But I am so sad that this has happened to you. You have shed new light on other complications from VSG that we have not heard about. I hope everything turns out ok for you. Keep your faith and strenghth.
  2. I'm so sorry that your progress has slowed! I know how frustrating it has to be but look on the bright side, they are just trying to get you into the best shape so you will have fewer complications after! I know it's just another delay in an already lengthy process and I'm sorry. I just hope that it will go away after the first treatment so you can keep moving and get your surgery date!! Keep us posted and know I'm sending you good energy for speedy healing!!

    Austin, TX surgeons.

I used Dr. Ganta. He performed the single incision through my belly button and I had zero complications. I never needed any pain meds.

    Post surgery CrossFit questions

Fluff...the most difficult thing for me right after surgery was trying to curtail my workouts to what the DR ordered. I'm not in good enough shape to do whole crossfit exercises, although I want to try soon. My DR said nothing but walking for almost 10weeks after surgery and then I started doing more gradually. The hardest thing was giving up swimming laps for that amount of time...I love to swim but did what they said and have had NO complications whatsoever, so it paid off. Good luck to you. Side note...CowgirlJane...congrats on finally doing plastics. You are one of the first people I read comments on this site when I started 5 months ago and I know you have been wanting plastics for a long time...so good for you!!!!

    Returning to work

I had mine on Friday and took one week off but went in the Wednesday after surgery for a few hours for a meeting. Other than being tired no reason you can't get through the day at your desk. Unless you have complications or a really long commute which may tire you out before you get there. I'm surprised people take 4-5 weeks off. Minimal pain. Mostly just discomfort and you're tired. Try not to go back before Tuesday or even Wednesday. Monday definitely too soon. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Par, first I want to say I welcome your input. I was one of the people who really objected to the rule change about the guys room and ladies room somehow being off limits to each other - so in my book, your input is welcome. i would have even posted this in the mens room at one time...as I am genuinely seeking advice. Having said that, I hate Tom Lykis if he is who i think he is. One time I heard him talk about how gross women are after age 40 (f* that, I am better at 50 than EVER!) ... and how he could not imagine having sex with a woman (referring to someone's wife for crying out loud!) after she had a masectomy due to cancer. His shallow sexism will never be acceptable to me (what an ass), but YOUR point, I get. Many of us could probably use more "cookie" I have never been promiscuous and don't intend to start now, but, I am also a genuine, sensual woman. If I am really into a guy (which I am right now!) I am not into playing games. Heck, if I didn't care about sex I would stick to my platonic friends (girlfriends and male-friends). I enjoy the company of men, and have many as friends, but "boyfriend" situations seem to be fraught with complications I would just as soon do without... but i am not quite ready for the convent yet, so I risk heartbreak and drama to find that special stuff with the right man. I have a strong personality. I work as a project manager and those of you that know what the means, can guess that I am high drive, goal oriented and "damn the torpedos" kind of person. I am fun loving, full of smiles and laughs but also... intense. I believe that often a person's strength is also their biggest fault. What has happened to me in the past is that men are attracted to my highly verbal, intelligent, goal oriented and driven personality complete with all the energy in the world... and then.. well you know. The thing that people don't realize about my "type" is you can say "whoa there cowgirl, slow down" and I am not offended! I am pretty tough, I can take genuine feedback. My girlfriends think I am the life of the party and aren't scared of me...haha... cuz they know I am a sweetheart and genuinely care about them! What makes this guy so special to me ... besides the great kissing, the hot looks, serious intelligence and common interests... is that he seems to get all that. i just don't want to mess it up as I feel like I sometimes have in the past.... unwittingly. I dunno, this whole dating thing seems like it should come with a manual. Right now, I want to call him, but, I won't because everyone tells me that isn't cool and to just let him come after me. I am like... come after me! (oops, I am not supposed to say that, right?)

    Fallen off track

I am a just over two years out and I have gained 40 pounds back. After surgery I had no complications. Nothing made me sick, there was no food that I couldn't eat or that I couldn't tolerate. I did good for a little over a year then I hit a rough patch in life and went completely downhill. I was craving and eating sweets like it was nothing, I was drinking again and often, I quit taking my vitamins regularly. I was taken off of my depression and anxiety meds and put on Vyvanse. It seemed to be working for a while. The transition from my regular meds to Vyvanse happened right before I had surgery so of course, it helped me losing weight. I lost 114 pounds. Then all of a sudden my Vyvanse seemed to not be working anymore. Everyday was a struggle. I tried to get taken off of it a few times and my psychiatrist didn't think it was a good idea. I tried to take myself off of it and I quickly figured out that was not a good idea. I am so irritable most days. I have gotten to where its a struggle to even want to get up out of bed and do anything. I've had several people at work tell me i'm never happy. I'm always complaining or biting someone's head off. This is not me at all. I am generally a happy and fun person. People used to like being around me and now i'm pretty sure they don't. I finally took my myself off off of my Vyvanse (3 weeks without it) and struggled through it. My psychiatrist put my back on depression and anxiety meds last week so i'm hoping to be doing better soon. I've started back on how i'm supposed to eat today and have all of my vitamins. Has anybody else went through something like this or experiences irritability and unhappiness?

    Breaking up with my Mom

Since your DH has such a wonderful family, just do what I do, I adopted them, I basically lost all of my family in the past few years, they all died, and many of weight related complications, ergo why I am giving the band all I can. But I felt so alone, I went to a thanksgiving day party just after my mom and brothers death at a dear friends house and they could tell I was upset, so one pulled me aside and asked what was wrong. I explained the holidays were hard because I had no family any more, and she looked at me and said of course you do you have everyone here, we will all be your family. So long story short family is what you make of it and if there are those that are not happy and healthy additions to you and yours you have every right to cut ties with them. Good luck to you.

    SWLC paitents...

Hi all it is me again.. I just have a question regarding the clinic.. when I had the consltation I have been told that I can fill unfill as much as I need for lifetime.. then within the contract that they send me to sign there are two things that I am not sure of 1st that they r availabe for support for 5 years and adjustment is subject be be chageged.. yes it is for free for 5 years still they have the right to charge us.. second then it is not a liftime adjustment and after care support then it is only 5 years 2nd they said that the revision and complication of the surgery is covered by OHIP as is for today.. okay since I am in the medical feild I know that regulations keep changing everyday in the heath ssytem so if later it is not covered what will happen?!! Anyone can help me on those two things?!
  10. I had my lap band surgery last Wednesday (November 9). I had to spend the night in the hospital because I had a large hiatal hernia that had to be repaired. Two days after surgery, there was redness and pain at the site of my port. Back to clinic for strong antibiotics which are now causing diarrhea. I'm drinking lots of liquids and 3 Protein shakes a day (20g. each). Today is the first day I'm beginning to feel better. I go see my surgeon tomorrow morning to check the port site. If any of you are prayer warriors, I could use some prayer to heal this infection so they don't have to operate again. Although I've had complications, I am still glad I did this. I had great reservations the week before and almost canceled it. Now, I'm focusing on the long-term benefits and looking forward to a healthier me! Thanks for prayers.

    Time Off Work

The standard for my doctor's office is after your 2-3 week follow up appointment. Although they were willing to write it for 6 weeks. I think I could have gone back after I was off of pain meds (4-5 days) but I would have been exhausted. It also depends on how well you recover. I am only 36, I had zero complications, a starting BMI of 42 and was otherwise very healthy - all of which made my recovery very easy. Now if I was still at my old job, which I hated, I would have taken the full 6 weeks.
  12. Awesome Sosewsue61 sounds like you’re doing great. Still no gas for me. I keep walking but nothing coming out lol. Baby sips of water and a little broth and jello. My husband is in complete amazement that I’m not starving after these four days. Dr is keeping me one more night since my conversion from lap and to sleeve was more complicated than he thought. Happy to be here. Not ready to go home just yet.
  13. my two supplemental insurance pays for disability & hospital stay. however the doctor fills out the insurance papers and thats black and white. it is the doctor/surgeon discretion how long a patient is off; complications maybe? i had my gallbladder removed and was good the second week, but i was off six weeks.
  14. It was around January 15th of this year when I went to my first informational meeting about the sleeve. Since then I've been through all kinds of tests, physical and psychological, and waited patiently for things to fall into place. Tomorrow is the day. At 6 a.m. I show up at the hospital, and at 7:45 a.m. they begin. I am excited, scared, nervous and happy all at once. At 5' 3.5" and 237 lbs. with multiple comorbidities I know I am doing the best thing for my health and for the rest of my life. The only worries I have are about complications from the surgery, so if y'all would pray for smooth sailing for me, I'd appreciate it. Oh, and please move over, will you? You've got a wide load comin' atcha on that loser's bench!
  15. Hello jsm, I hope all goes well for you. Everyone is so right, please don't stay away. Please let us know how you are doing, no matter what procedure you are going to have. We have got to know you on here and we all care. I am sorry that your Doctor does not see things the same way that you do and I wish your insurance company had different policies. One of these days maybe it will be so different and people won't have to go through what you and others, including myself have gone through trying to get approved for the sleeve. Everyone that gets approved for the duodenal switch, is having the sleeve and more done on top of the sleeve. When they realize that sometimes the more is not necessary and more risky, maybe things will change much quicker for everyone. The people that have very high BMI's and co-morbidities, maybe they do need the sleeve first, then a second surgery when they are healthier to have it after losing some weight: but for the people with lower BMI's and do not have lots of health issues, the sleeve seems to be the answer for them. It just seems so simple, If the sleeve works for so many, why do more than needs to be done? And why put the person at a greater risk of having complications? Also it would be so much less expensive for the sleeve procedure than the other more evasive surgery procedures. I do have some good news to share with you and others. I have now been approved for the sleeve and I have a surgery date Dec.2. When I first started almost a year ago, the sleeve was not approved by Medicaid here in Kentucky. Dr. Husted assured me several months ago that in the near future it would possibly be an approved procedure. Well as you can see, now it is being approved for some. I am glad that I kept hanging in there. It has been a long wait, and I had many setbacks along the way, but I am glad that it did take longer so that now I can have the sleeve instead of the other procedures.

    Hello Everyone!

Welcome Aboard! God leads us when we least expect it! Look where he sent you to learn about options. How wonderful. I truely believe you made the right choice. It took me two yrs of research & still near the two week mark I wondered a bit about which surgery. My Doctors does both- But after more & more support groups in person - I KNOW I chose the right one. RNY seems to have so many serious complications that are so life threatening. With your children in the picture, I am so glad you changed your mind. Keep us posted on your journey!

    Complications

I had band to bypass revision on 3/28. I had my band removed on 12/17 due to complications. I had no problem getting approved, just had to stay above BMI requirements, which wasn't a problem around the holidays, lol. Good luck! Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App
  18. Oh, yes. I didn't mean to say that I am not actually those things (funny, generous, etc.). I AM a very nice, sweet, and giving person... Almost to a fault! It's partly a cultural thing stemming from my family. I think I just overcompensated in those areas to make up for the fact that I was obese, which, as you already know, is outside of societal norms and looked down upon. I just didn't realize that that's what I was doing at the time... Until I didn't have to anymore, because of my weight loss. Ya know what I mean? It was all just a big mind f*ck for me. Being obese was just a huge part of who I was. In psychological terms, I was fat for all stages of my personality development. So it was like I lost part of who I was, but only on the outside. I don't know, it's complicated! LOL maybe this is not the right posting to be ranting about this I'm glad I'm not alone in this, though. Keep being your badass self!

    Risk of adhesions?

GOOD AFTERNOON, From what I was advised when asking that very same question VSG would be the optimal choice as far as surgery for weight loss. I know that they do laparoscopic (which reduces the risk of adhesions). I have a friend that had 14 abdominal surgeries(with adhesions and scar tissue) prior to having VSG and that was the ONLY surgery recommended. 2yrs later and she has not complained of complications. I would seek a surgical consult with a bariatric surgeon ...best wishes

    Scared of Surgery

It comes down to personal choice. I can say this, as I used to be a post op surgical nurse. The majority..not all.. of my patients who had complications from gastric bypass were those who did not follow our orders to the letter. There is a method to our madness and a reason why you are sent home with strict instructions. By pass is truly a lifestyle change. I am 4 weeks post op and loving the decision I have made. With any surgery there is risk of complications. I made my choice based on how much weight I need to lose and which procedure would help me achieve that goal. Also there were so medical reasons. I too want to be here for my kids and I know I wouldn't be if I had continued down the path I was going. I wish you the best in making your decision. [emoji846]

    MAY 2019 Sleevers

I just got approved by Dr Corvala in Tijuana. Probably last of may. Still have to schedule. Still a little nervous regarding possible complications. Leaks, gerd symptoms, nausea, so many people comment on those issues, I'm a nurse and bmi of 32. 40# to lose. Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app

6 weeks pregnant and no appetite

For women who have had Bariatric surgery and for those who have not, the first trimester can be super difficult due to nausea. Our restriction causes another level of complexity here. In your first trimester, protein is the MOST important. Getting adequate protein can prevent many complications in pregnancy (preeclampsia, placental problems, etc). And the first trimester is when our babies are building all the essential groundwork for organ systems, etc. protein is super important in placenta formation as well. So if you're not able to eat much due to nausea and/or restriction, protein shakes as often as possible are your best bet! There are dissolvable tablets (zofran) that your doctor can prescribe to help, or a b6 tab with over the counter unisom at night can also be effective.
  23. I was self pay Memphis, TN as well. Approximately 15k for gastric sleeve at COE. Attended 2 classes, psych, blood work, and EGD which was done in April. I could have scheduled surgery within 2 weeks after initial visit but waited to celebrate my and significant other birthdays. I was concerned about complications but I prayed about it and left it in God's hands. So far I am 6 weeks and have been doing well.

    PRE-OP LIQUID DIET CHEATER

Hi Debac, really?? Did you have to go on any kind of diet to lose a few lbs pre op? Miss sleeve the more i read i think its doctors choice? My ins called for 6 month supervised diet no requirement on weight loss. My doctor requires the 2 week liquid pre op for less complications in surgery. My husbands cousin did not have any diet what so ever. Her surgery is the rny on the 11 th. Totally didf then what my doctor andbinsurance requires. By the way my surgerybis DS. So may be a bit diff req than sleeve?? Good morning Jangy:) Thanks, support is all I need. My ins. like yours required 6mnth supervised diet but didnt require weight loss. That part was the surgeons requirement:( I've heard of very few ppl not having to diet ir lose any weight I guess cause they were on the lower end of the BMI scale. Lucky them! I am gonna take a trip to Walmart this wk to try Premier, I need something for on the go.
