I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass June 14th. I started my pre-op diet Sunday and it's not too bad. I'm starting to get nervous though. Not looking forward to having to do this all over AGAIN.. I had my sleeve done in Oct 2017, and it hasn't been a fun ride since. I hope this time it turns out better. I am ready to get it over with 🤨😬.. . Wish everyone luck and a speedy recovery..

I had gastric bypass in December of 2020... even since then, I’ve noticed I don’t pee as much as I should ... I drink at least 80 ounces or more of water per day, and I work out, so some does come out sweeting.. anyone else?

Any April 2021 surgeries?!
DMS242321 replied to KidaandRoux's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all I finally found my April buddies I had bypass on 4/14 and the first few weeks like other stated I didn't go to the bathroom at all. Now the last 2 week I can't stop, I was told to take immodium. I have a history since I was young of IBS and even when I was an athlete, I worked with gastro docs and I really didn't want to rely on medicine again. I just can't do anything else. It is totally interfering with just leaving the house. I started to work out again with a trainer but had to cancel 2x b/c of this. I am getting my water in and protein, I'm still on soft foods and feel week. I spend way too much time in the bathroom or if the immodium works tooting something awful. Anyone have this problem? -
5 year post gastric bypass weight gain
HealthyLifeStyle replied to NuOutlook's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
How much did you originally lose when you had the bypass? I am very curious to your story. I am 9 months out and am now "too skinny". I can't maintain and keep losing. I look sickly. Did this happen to you? A lot of people say that in year 2 I should start to gain weight again. Is this true? -
Artificial Sweeteners?
HealthyLifeStyle replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I can not eat anything with Maltitol in it. It makes me bloated, cramps, and diarrhea really bad. I tried Stevia and don't like it at all. I also can't drink Crystal Lite. Whatever is in it makes me feel sick. I was never this way before the bypass. Now I find I am very sensitive to a lot of things. -
Hello All, after being away for quite some time I am BACK to inspire, motivate, encourage and to be encouraged. I had my gastric bypass in Sept of 2015 and today I weighed myself and the SHOCK of seeing the scale read 201after 5 years was a SLAP in the face. Now today I need to lose 35 pounds. I need all of your help and encouragement. How do you lose weigh post gastric bypass? Can my stomach shrink? Has anyone else had this experience? Help need to reach my goal weight again. Please see recent photo below.

Really struggling- lap band to sleeve
meressa replied to MissChelle's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m so sorry. I went through this too but I didn’t have the lap band. but your surgeon should have told you the sleeve only makes the reflux worse. My surgeon did and suggested a revision to bypass instead because of my severe GERD. -
What should I aim for in terms of healthy goal weight?
Jen2020MGB replied to ThanaK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went for a round 150 as the 'main' goal, as I was that weight when I was around 17 and looked and felt great (not that I thought it at the time!!). Now I'm getting closer at 179, and when I look in the mirror there appears to be more than 29 pounds to go! So I may revise goal but will see when I get there or close. It's hard to imagine ourselves so light I think, after many years of being heavier. It's such a personal thing, and like others have said I do sometimes worry that I'll never be happy! I love the 'weirdest none-scale-victory' thread for ideas of what to notice and celebrate, and mentally I find it helpful to shift focus away from the numbers sometimes, particularly when experiencing a stall. -
I’ve been hearing different things like: you lose slower or you may not lose at all. I’m 9 days out and I lost 10 so far but I know of some friends who’ve lost 20 within the first week. So question for revisions from sleeve to RNY, How long did it take you to lose the weight you wanted?

What should I aim for in terms of healthy goal weight?
PolkSDA replied to ThanaK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That "ideal" calculation is really too simple, isn't it? It doesn't factor in frame width, being "big boned", etc. Two people can be the same height but have vastly different frames/structures. I'm 6'1", which by the above calculation sets my ideal weight at 178 pounds. I would look absolutely emaciated at that weight, given that my frame is fairly wide/broad-shouldered. Depending on your body type, these sorts of formulas can create some really unrealistic (and unhealthy) expectations IMO, especially if people take the concept of "ideal" as a target to strive for... in the vast majority of cases that ideal, i.e., 100% of excess weight lost, is not realistic. I started at 383 and my surgeon and I started with a target of 250. If I hit that weight, I would consider the journey a success. Alternatively, the above formula sets the target at 239.5, which isn't far off the mark... although if you use online obesity calculators, 6'1" and 240 is still considered obese... go figure. As I approached my original goal faster than expected, I revised the goal downward from 250 to 225. I'm now at 10.5 months from date of surgery, and while my rate of loss has slowed drastically (as expected), that revised goal is now too in sight at 230.4. -
Can I change my surgery?
lizonaplane replied to Janelle m's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm torn between sleeve and bypass too. My surgeon and my psychopharmacologist want me to get sleeve to ensure I can absorb my psych meds, but I'm worried about GERD and weight regain, and not losing enough weight. I am hoping to get a second opinion, but I'll have to do that soon. -
I also gained a ton of weight from my bipolar meds (100 lbs in two years, more in the years after that). However, both the surgeon and the psychopharmacologist said that I should do sleeve to ensure I can still absorb the psych meds fully, rather than bypass. I do occasionally have reflux, so I'm a bit worried and I'm trying to get a second opinion, but think about that, especially since you don't have that much to lose. The meds made me crave sugar like crazy, but I find that when I don't have sugar, I stop craving it. See if you can do that before surgery, because the surgery won't fix that and you can just gain the weight back if you're head's not in it, since you'll still be on the psych meds.

Sleeve 2011 and just had the Roux en y bypass questions
Coexister replied to wendy100's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Recovery was so much easier for me after bypass. My energy level was much higher then it had been with the sleeve. I didn’t get all the mood or hormone fluctuations and so that was easier! I knew what to expect and that things would pass. It was so much better. -
Freaking out!! read you barely lose weight from sleeve 2 Bypass
catwoman7 replied to PeachesAus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
"they" say (whoever "they" are) that weight loss is never as quick or significant with a revision as it is with a virgin surgery, but some people can lose quite a bit of weight with them. I've read the average is about 20 lbs - although that's an average so I would think that includes people who lost most of their excess weight with the sleeve and are doing the revision because of GERD. I don't know what the stats are if you only include people who had the revision when they were still quite a ways from goal. I would think you could make it, but again, it's probably going to be slower and more difficult than with a virgin surgery. -
Extremely strict post op diet
lizonaplane replied to SethSnap's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@SethSnap That sounds rough! I'm glad you are not suffering from any "head hunger" or true hunger so it won't be so hard for you. I hope that keeps up. Maybe your doctor feels that the weight loss will be better with that plan? What surgery did you have? Maybe different surgeries require different post-op plans? I know it is usually similar between sleeve/gastric bypass. Good luck! -
Freaking out!! read you barely lose weight from sleeve 2 Bypass
NovaLuna replied to PeachesAus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think there are some people on this site who had success with a sleeve to bypass revision. I think it depends on the person. Also, there's also the option of sleeve to duodenal switch... depending on why you're having the revision of course because if it's for GERD then the DS isn't an option. But the sleeve is literally the first part of the DS procedure. It used to be separated into two parts so it's another revision option if your insurance covers it (and you don't have GERD) -

Freaking out!! Just read you barely lose any weight going from Sleeve revision too Bypass -
Hello, I wanted to know as much as I could about gastric bypass surgery and gastric sleeve surgery that I think I've scared myself right out of surgery. I've read three books and watched everything I could on the subject on YouTube. I also have PMR therefore I'm not sure if I can even have this surgery. I am 5'5 and weigh 226 pounds. I was 120 pounds when I was started on bipolar meds. I've been very thin all my life so I'm am very upset about all this weight that I'm carrying on a small frame. I have a question about food. I'm not big on food but I do love sugar some of this sugar addiction is caused by the meds. and some is just a natural craving. What's the point of getting a gastric sleeve if I'm still going to crave sweets? Thanks for any feedback. Minnie

Sleeve 2011 and just had the Roux en y bypass questions
wendy100 replied to wendy100's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I thought it was easier than the sleeve but I recovered really well on both of them...I didn't have the gassy pain that I have heard folks talk about...same with the bypass...I was only in the hospital about 24 hours after surgery for the by-pass...then I flew home...that was interesting as I missed my connecting flight and had to spend another night away from home. But the room was comfortable at the hotel and I slept hard...lol I tend to feel really good and then over do it by lifting something really heavy like grandkids or bending over gardening...I have to let the weeds go for another week or so. My insurance did NOT cover either surgery...that's why I went to Mexico and had it done. $8k vs. $28k. Plus I have a friend that went first and she said the experience was fine; she was never scared or anything like that. The hospital was clean...there was a language barrier but it has inspired me to learn Spanish after being down there. The first time I went to Tijuana in 2011; most recently I went to Juarez. Both times I wasn't scared and it was fine. Maybe consider that if you get denied. Plus, I decided to get the surgery around April 16th and had the surgery May 19th...it was pretty quick! Not sure with the hiatal hernia and acid reflux how the Mexico thing would go. I would think that with those issues, it would be covered. But you never know with insurance. Best wishes -
Sleeve 2011 and just had the Roux en y bypass questions
Frostyauggie replied to wendy100's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How was you’re recovery process going from the sleeve to bypass? In a few weeks I will be doing a revision of my sleeve to bypass due to a hiatal hernia and acid reflux. I’m curious to know if the recovery after the surgery is worse, the same or easier the second time around. I’m also interested in knowing how your insurance covered the revision. My policy has an exclusion and I’m concerned I will be denied coverage. -
No pre-op diet?
HealthyLifeStyle replied to SunnyinSC's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
They did not make me do a pre op diet either. I was told not to lose any weight or I wouldn't qualify for the surgery. At the time I weighed 216, at surgery I weighed 205. I had the surgery mainly because I was a bad diabetic. I couldn't lose weight on my own. I also had thyroid issues, and a ton of other medical problems. I had the bypass and my recovery was not easy. I was very sick for the 1st few months. I lost 40 lbs. in the 1st month alone. I couldn't eat anything or even drink water without being sick. I had to go on a script of nausea patches that you wear behind your ear. Finally in months 2-3 I could tolerate a small amount of cream of wheat and drink peppermint tea. The months after I had a very hard time eating anything more than a few bites of food. I am still having this problem now. I am 9 months out and down to 130 lbs. and look sickly. I am trying to put some weight back on because I am so skinny. Not trying to scare you, just telling my story. Good Luck -
Then you should see my doctor's FB group, everyone praises him as a hero, and says how awesome everything is. I am like we are doing the work by the way lol. Not having problems or not feeling that my pouch is getting kind of made me worried that I stretched it or something. I had bypass 4/14 and on soft foods and I feel like I can eat a little more than I'm supposed to with no problem and don't feel as full.

Bypass in April but don't feel too full when I eat?
DMS242321 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
In the beginning when I started to eat I would feel my pouch fill up, now I don't. I was wondering if it was the soft foods or I was afraid I stretched my stomach already. Weight loss stalls then goes then stalls. Then my stomach will act up and I need immodium or I can't leave home. Just frustrated but I guess it's normal. Just wanted to see what anyone else's thoughts /experiences were. Bypass was done 4/14
