    Questions For Those Before Me!

Oh yeah. Bring chapstick and a small cushy pillow to put on your stomach when you get up and down and for the car ride home. It helps with the bumps. I also would recommend gauze pads, butterfly bandages and tape. My big incision decided to open and release all the subcutaneous blood that was trapped there. For the first week if I wasn't wearing a bandage I would bleed on my shirts. Really irritating.
  2. I am 3 weeks out and totally congested. Any nasal spray or cold remedies anyone can suggest? I can't even sleep through the night! I asked my doc what I should take - she told me Children's Benadryl but its not working. I'm exhausted and can't breath. Im real close to just shooting some Afrin up my nose which I known is frowned upon in general.....Help!!!!

    Anxious about Covid

Well I had my surgery pre-Covid, but I live in a house where the three other people I lived with all caught Covid and I had to hole myself up in my room so I didn't catch it. I didn't catch it, but one of the people I lived with died from it (she was 86 and had COPD though). My sister had a C-Section in October though and was in the hospital for two days and then spend two weeks in and out of the hospital NICU and neither she, her son, nor husband caught it so my advice is to try and remain positive. I'm sure you'll be fine as the doctors and nurses are doing their absolute best to stop the spread and they are being tested frequently (my mom is a nurse and so is my aunt). My advice is to take probiotics if you're not, it helps boost your immune system.
  4. @@itstimealready I can gulp water too. I'm 2 and a half weeks out. Still having trouble getting much food in. And have to take protein shakes really slow or I get sick. Kinda weird.

    PCP approval

Thank you. I'm trying to stay positive. I go at 3 today so we will see. I have been worried for two weeks since the receptionist gave me an attitude about only being their a couple times in the last few years. Fingers crossed, I'll let you know????

    Diet before surgery

I am new to this, but I am doing the pre op diet right now. It seems everyone is different by what I read on here. My doctor has me doing the pre op diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. I have 2 protein shakes and one meal. My meal consists of 4 oz of lean meat and 1 cup of green vegie with nothing on it. It does wonders though as I lost 16 pounds in 7 days. I drink 64 oz of water a day and sometimes have a cup of tea in the evening to comfort my belly. I did great and now the 2nd week of it is starting and I have had a hard time the last 2 days. I have not cheated or anything, but I couldn't get crazy foods out of my head. I am pretty confindent it is only because of my insurance approval that is still pending. Anxiety seems to make me want a pizza lol. Anyway good luck to you and I hope that was of some help.
  7. I had an interesting experience last week. I went to my endocrinologist for a follow up on my thyroid. This was my third visit to her, as my doctors keep moving or retiring. We were almost at the end of the appointment and she told me that I need to lose weight. I agreed and told her that the last time I saw her I had mentioned that I was in the waiting period for Lap Band Surgery. Apparently she didn't make note of it and did not seem to understand. She started lecturing me on losing weight the natural way and I just needed to try harder. She told me that all surgery is risky. My insurance requires a year waiting period before surgery and I am doing everything I am suppose to do. My PCP is onboard and even asked me if I'd thought about surgery before I could tell him that I'd gone to an informational meeting. After his positive reaction, I was very surprised at the endocrinologist's very negative reaction. I think in writing this I've decided to see her on my next follow-up and if she is still opposed to the surgery, I will find another doctor. If I had been seeing her for years and trusted her opinion, I'd be more inclined to listen to her. I'm 6 months into my year and I have spoken to the surgeon, the nutritionist and the counselor. I know the risks, and what to expect. I'm not about to turn back now without a really good reason. Has anyone else run into negative reactions like this from your doctors? What did you end up doing?
  8. I have been feeling so depressed. Because i havn't lost any weight in the last 2 weeks (yes it has been my fault). I have been killing the christmas cookies. I have a horrible sweet tooth and since being banded i have keep all tempations out of my house well christmas shows up and everything goes out the window. Everyone gives us christmas cookies. And my husband having the highest metabolism know to man can eat pounds of them without gaining an oz (still weighs the same he weighed in high school 176lbs). Well a least i didn't gain and i still enjoyed the holidays. The scale has started to move again. All the christmas cookies are gone. I started to get scared because i started to feel like old habits were coming back these last 2 weeks but i have to remember that i am stronger with the band and i will not go back to old ways because i am loving this new life.
  9. This week I completed my last pre-op appointment, and am now just waiting to hear from my surgeons office to schedule if I am approved by the surgeon. I'm self pay, but still had to complete a waiting period and a lot of pre-op appointments. I'm very excited but am also starting to get nervous! Up until now there were so many things I had to do, but now I'm just waiting to schedule a date. I find myself doubting I will lose the weight, or I'll be disappointed in my results. Totally unfounded thoughts, but they are still finding their way in to my head. How did you deal with the stress, nervousness, doubt?!
  10. I was sleeved on 1/29 so am almost 7 weeks. I've felt hunger for the past several weeks but it's been minimal. Hunger for me prior to surgery was stomach growling, feeling dizzy and lightheaded, headache, etc. so just a little empty feeling in my tummy after surgery was nothing. In the last few days, I've felt SO hungry, my stomach has been growling (first time since surgery) loudly, really feeling like I'm starving (not literally, just like before surgery). I haven't changed my diet at all; I haven't changed my exercise routine. I always get all of my Protein, I always get all of my Water. Anyone else experience this several weeks out? Any thoughts? PLEASE tell me this isn't going to last!!!!

    Warm Weather NSV

Been rocking the flip flops since a recent cruise. Bought them at a surf shop on the way to the port. Those....a bathing suit.....and a beach towel were my uniform for poolside bars for a week. Still enjoying them while back at home where the weather has been glorious. Came home from work last night and couldn't find my new flip flops.......seems that my son has discovered them and is calling them his. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr Okay....okay......fair. I'll play his silly little game. See.....I'm now buying and wearing some 2xl sized polos and t-shirts. My son wears xl sized and owns some really, really cool shirts. In my best Yoda voice I awared him of the state of things now....and of the future, "My flip flops you wear now......your shirts I will wear soon......do.....do not....there is no try". Or something like that..........

    Estrogen and weight stall

I'm almost 3 weeks out and at a stall also and even gained 3 pounds before the stall. I have been here for over a week. It started when I started stage one foods. I'm thinking maybe it's because I lost 50 pounds before the surgery and had a lower bmi going into the surgery. I currently weigh 207.

    eating solids too soon.

I haven't even started solid food yet and I am almost 5 weeks post op. It was 2 days clear liquids, then full liquids for 11 days, pureed for week and a half, soft moist foods (what I'm doing right now). and then in 3 days I get to start full foods.
  14. Your body takes 6 weeks minimum to heal. Stay off the scale or drive yourself crazy. Your body isn't going to shed pounds after it just underwent a highly invasive surgery. You may feel good on the outside but internally you're still healing; proper healing requires nutrients and calories.

3 1/2 weeks out and weight is yo-yoing

Totally in the same boat as you right now. I am in my third week and I gained back 2 lbs. I have been hitting the gym and I am going to try and not weigh myself until sunday. I was obsessing with the scale and the weight. I don't get a fill until 6/8/11 so I can't wait for a little restriction. I am just so hungry all the time. and working out makes me hungier! Good luck to you though, I know what you are feeling!
  16. I start my preop on Sunday..2 weeks of nothing but liquid. I have the worst anxiety about it and frankly I feel like its just not possible to live 2 entire weeks without food. Like at this point I can't imagine going 1 day without food let alone 14. How.is.this.done?? So much of my life is focused around food..I'm scared of this diet!!

    Need some female advice please

I too had the Mirena and was surprised when I bled for the first few weeks. It was light, but I usually didn't get a period. That being said, this January (1 yr. post-sleeve) I started bleeding again and found out I had a large fibroid that led to a hysterectomy. Most ob/gyn's will tell you if you are bleeding in a way that is abnormal for you, you should get it checked out because it is a sign of uterine or ovarian cancer. Luckily for me it was neither. I know it is very expensive, but peace of mind and assurance that you are healthy is very important!
  18. Hungry?

Not even a little hungry. Three months out now and nope, still not hungry but every once in awhile and when I am, three or so baby bites is all I can do.
  21. Thanks ladies it's so helpful to hear that there are others and it's normal. If there were stiches, I think I pulled them. I felt them pop and after that the pain was much worse. I asked the nurse at my one week appointment and she said it was probably some pain from the muscle. I'm out of my meds and she advised that normally they only use Tylenol after the first week. I accepted that at the time, but it's much worse now than it was before my appointment on Thursday.

Help pls horrible pain 1wk out

I totally had this pain. It scared the crap out of me. I thought I pulled or ripped sutures or something. The nurse told me it was totally normal. It was always a sharp stitch-like-cramp that would shoot towards my belly button and my back (on left side only) but as soon as she said that it was because the majority of the surgery happened on my left side it totally made sense. She said nerves, muscles, tissue etc etc got cut too that and that it will take longer to heal on that side. She also pointed out that the reason I wasn`t feeling it week 1 was because I had some good pain killers haha it just dawned on me while reading this post that I haven`t had that pain for like 4 days now! whoop whoop!!! now, if only my number 2`s would smarten up (or harden up...!) and I would start feeling more energy and less lightheaded and dizzy... I can get going on this journey! good luck to you and let`s do this! Heather

Contact sports after Sleeve and excess skin

From what I have watched on TV..I would wait a bit longer to really participate fully in all out contact. You definitely want your sleeve line to be fully healed and for me I was still feeling the internal stitches pulling until around 6 weeks. It wasn't until then that I felt healed. Although the other part of this is..you are going to be tired after the surgery with the nutrition restriction etc, so keep that in mind as you plan your return to the ring! The excess skin is a crap shoot..age, genetics etc..all play a part.
