Based on what I was told during my process this will not be enough for approval. You have to be on a supervised weight loss program and they will track your weight loss. I have Aetna insurance so I am not sure the info I am giving is accurate for BC.

Anyone Struggle Watching Your Family Eat?
Fingersx replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven’t had any issues cooking for my family….. Now saying this i LOVE cooking! I also love baking (making brownies for coworkers this weekend) only thing that does bother me is i can’t really taste it to make sure it’s right. Now when I get head hungry I love watching Asian mukbang! I don’t know why but for me it works! I guess bc it’s head hunger and im watching it …. Maybe? Or maybe I need counseling? Lol -
Cant Wait For Skinny Good Sexin!

So I just remembered when I was at my lowest (160) like 6 yrs ago and my pelvic bones being more apparent... And literally being bruised when f**king. I couldn't do a lot of moves--scissors, etc. bc I couldn't take going hard... Lol!! I kinda don't even care about all that if I could just look hot again in some panties/bra and be able to have my stamina back for riding. That confidence is what I miss most about sex--it made it so much better bc I'd be willing to try anything! -
congratulations Jennifer! What is so great to me (being that I am going to be banded sometime after 4/1/06) is those who are able to come home from the surgery and just 4 or 5 hours later go online and post they are home and doing well! Another plus I am thinking of is that I have never thrown up in my life...really! I do get nauseated with viruses etc. and after my laparoscopic tubal ligation but that is because they fed me breakfast AND lunch as soon as I woke up....ugggh! I was really sick but didn't throw up and I have a good gag reflex too...can't brush my tongue at all when I brush my teeth!

I think give it time, I couldn’t tolerate chicken, tuna, sardines during the soft phase no matter how slow or how wet i made it but honestly my body was having a tough time with meat And fats prior due to my gallbladder and food allergies. I did tolerate beef better but grass fed organic beef, and vegetarian organic chicken (green wise Publix store brand) I would just buy and eat less or when chicken went bogo. It depends on the quality meat. But for now I’m working on high protein veggie burgers that have pea protein and vegetables. never cook things dry, keep meat portions smaller too. also can I suggest getting a good digestive enzyme like garden of life chewable, something with a range of enzymes that will help you with the hard to digest foods. I buy from vitamin shoppe or vitacost. I dislike our local gnc it’s a franchise ... but if you have a good shop you can ask about digestive enzymes. also as I said, give things time and try them in small doses even with sleeve. (I had bypass) digestive enzymes can help with preventive for developing GERd.

EXERCISE..... My husband and I joined a gym (probably the fourth or fifth time doing so) last June...... Two months before I had WLS. I HATED it. Every day I fought with myself to go. I dreaded even walking out of my front door. I rode the stationary bikes bc I could sit while exercising. I would come home and have to elevate my legs bc of them being swollen.... But I continued going...., started to feel a little better after about six to eight weeks..... Fast forward to the present. I go to the gym six days a week. I do an hour of cardio on the elliptical every single day!!!!!! I try to do the weight circuit two to three times a week. I am totally addicted to going. Can't believe it is even me ..... So yes, a person can learn to love exercising! Best of luck to you.

VSG /Dumping/Late Dumping
FluffyChix replied to GreenTealael's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hear ya. It actually has to do with carbs. It's not necessarily linear. In general it usually means you're reacting to the carbs from some point in the day. It sets up a roller coaster spiral up and down, like a wavelength until it crescendos. The only way I know to defeat it is to make the waves have shorter amplitude (height) so that the waves "flatten" out. The only way to do that is to take the fast(er) acting carbs out of the equation. Some people can't handle grains of any sort--even oats. Others cannot handle even legumes. Some react from peanuts! Peanuts though low carb are a legume. And if your serving size is large enough, it can impact you. Once you get an attack, sadly, it can take a few days for your pancreas to get back on board and quit over-tumping insulin into your system so you rollercoaster up and down up and down up and down for a while. The only way to catch it really is to get a meter and start testing before and at periods after a meal. Once you know that meal is ok--it goes on your safe list... It's a PIA to run down, but if your bs is falling into the 40-50-60 level that is pretty dangerous and you need to know that information. It could be >2hours out even. Mine has been known to go out to 4-6hours. -

Hey guys, I think I might know the rep you are talking about...I have a friend who just started working for J&J. I will call her next week for you guys and see if she knows anything about the number for you. I know she was a big pusher for the J&J band, mainly bc of the extra help from the website. I can't make any promises, but I will do my best! -
Or, if it's REALLY THAT BAD, taste it, chew it up, and spit it out. The first 3 weeks were really hard for me bc I was craving the junk. I did just that, and I was fine. Now, at 6 weeks, almost 7 weeks, I don't want it. Although I still do want chocolate...but now I'll eat just one taste. (Like one square of a chocolate bar, or one bite of a peanut butter cup) That suits me just fine.

Need some support on issue in Vancouver ! Infected port!! No doctor!!
Devotedlillly posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded 12 years ago by dr Leung in surrey, bc. When I was banded, I was lucky to have my surgery covered by bc medical . about 6 months later, they stopped all funding. I have had three port revisions. I currently have an infected port. I called dr.leung, but his phone is not in service ...hmmm.. I was told dr. Amson assisted in my original surgery. I called his office, and they agreed to see me. Yesterday he told me my port needed to be removed ASAP and I needed to be on antibiotics and then my port replaced. He could not do it or me. He suggested dr woodhesd or another dr. I called both today, and was told they would not fix it for me, however if I wanted to pay $7000 I could wait 6 to 8 weeks and they would remove it. I suggested by that point I would be dead, but thank you for the offer of taking my money..what??? I have an oozing infection, a medical issue, that needs to be dealt with..and I am being looked at as a dollar sign. Anyway, beyond that...I need some suggestions , and I need them fast! I don't want to loose my band. I have no doctor in charge of me now, and nobody will take me....help!!!!! I need help before the infection reaches my stomach!!!! Suggestions???? Maybe I should go to Mexico???- 12 replies

It amazes me how much we all have in common here. Yes, I too have felt all these things. I am almost 3 weeks out. This week was hard bc I came to stay with my mother who keeps a kitchen stocked with food and cooks amazing meals every evening. My whole life I have taken comfort from her food. And when I have dieted, it was always a deeply emotional effort to keep from eating her cooking, especially in my teens and 20s. And here I am at 39 & 1/2 years old feeling it all over again. BUT, I took my daughter to the zoo this week, and we walked around for hours. I felt healthier than I have in so long! Then a few days later I took her to the mall and walked some more. It felt great! I took her trick or treating, and had a blast walking with her. Today, we walked outside collecting sticks and pretty magnolia stems. It was bliss. I am starting to feel WONDERFUL!!! I predict you are going to start feeling great too soon! K -
Do I tell or do I keep it a secret???
love.star replied to nancy_marie_00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, Ive been feeling the same thing. Wondering who I should tell in my life. But Ive only told two ppl (not including my husband) which are my mother and one sister. I decided to tell the people I talk to on a daily basis that I have a close intimate relationship with them. They are very supportive and non-judgemental. They are very understanding. Ive decided to hold off on telling my dad and my other older sister until aft the surgery, at a muchh later date. I dont want to hear any negativity and opinions from them or anyone else. Bc I know once I tell one friend, then theyll tell another and so on. Once I tell them, they will always know and always remember. And quite frankly, I dont think I owe ppl an explination. Which is what I know ppl will looking for, especially for those who dont approve. So for now anyway, Im just planning to tell ppl Ive been dieting and exercising, which is true!! -
As anyone had vision changes. I could not see worth a crap before surgery, but now I cannot see out of my contacts very well at all. I have called my optometrist for a recheck on Saturday. Has anyone else i fed this???

Ok I am three pounds under my goal weight YAY and 3 lbs away from 100lbs toatal!!!!! Triple YAY, but now I am like what do I do? Do I set a new goal? HOnestly the most exercise I have done is the crap I do on kinect, so I am thinking of trying my hand at working out to tone and firm, bc I wear a pant size higher than I am supposed to due to my belly skin......yuck! I have considered plastics, but they make me feel vain since I haven't lifted a finger to naturally try and get rid of the flab. People are begining to say "don't lose anymore weight" but I am like if I lose another 7 lbs I am cool with it. My weight loss has slowed down tremendously as I have been eating in a maintenance mode, but I still lose at least 1 lb a week. I am nine months out and reached goal at 6 1/2 months. Ahhhhhh what to do?

Thank you all. Unfortunately,my Nutritionist appt was rescheduled out to the 28th bc the dietician is going on a break for Thanksgiving. =(( It will come soon enough. I can say that now I am quite a bit more comfortable with the appt since all of the great insight I've gotten from you all. =) Thank you! -
Did you receive an approval letter from BC? I have BCBS PPO and I've received two letters, one for the surgery approval and another for the hospital approval. For some reason the hospital approval came about two weeks after the initial approval letter. If you've received similar letters, I wonder if they'd scheduled you with your copy of the letter? Just a thought.

birth control after surgery and while losing weight?
111 replied to desreynolds80's topic in The Gals' Room
I take BC pills and and the husband wears condoms. I take the heavy duty pills because I would hemmorage constantly - even after my cycle should be done. I'm sure that will resolve itself once the weight comes off but I'll be turning 42 before the year is out and starting a family in my 40's sounds like climbing Mount Everest 10 times in a row with no rest. -

In California they will do 8 hours n a surgery center under general anesthesia and I don't think it is a law bc in my recent consults the docs have mentioned it as an " I don't do..." Rather than "I can't do..." And two said 8 hours and one said 6. @@jess9395 Interesting! I wondered if it was a law or not because it was an issue on all of my surgeries. My doctor said that they start getting cranky when they go over 6 hours and they don't like to let outpatients leave when surgeries run long. Since they do a lot of reconstruction patients in much longer surgeries, I assumed this rule only applied to those of us who leave the facility the same day.
