    WHAT PROTIEN DO YOU LIKE?

I have been banded since 10/31/2006. We were put on Muscle Milk back then. Then,,,, I found Muscle Milk Light on ebay. Doc said to his dietitian "HOW COME I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS STUFF? Dietitian said I DON'T KNOW???? SHIRLEY FOUND IT. WELL ORDER ME SOME ! ! " FROM THAT POINT ON EVEN THERE BY PASS PATIENTS DRINK IT. It is made with Water, so no Milk is needed. 195 calories to a 8oz glass, 25G protein. My favorite flavors are: Cookies N CREME, strawberry MILKSHAKE, Peanut Butter & chocolate, CHOCOLATE MILK, VANILLA CREME. But they do have more like Mocha Joe if you like coffee. I don't drink coffee,, so,,, I can't comment on the taste. Find a supplier on ebay where you see numerous Jugs of Muscle Milk, and you can click on them to see the flavors Hope this helps, Shirley.

    Hello... Newbie and Frustrated

Hi Stacy, I had my band done in Mexicali Mexico in April. I too have a 10cc band but it is my understanding that my band will only old 4cc of saline. I currently have 2.28 cc filled. I have felt full a couple of times and it is very uncomfortable and you run the risk of stretching your pouch. You should only eat until you are satisfied not full. For most 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food is all you should eat. If you continue drinking with your meals you will eat more. The point of not drinking is so your food will sit in your pouch and make you feel satisfied. If you drink with food it washes the food down to your lower stomach where you wont feel satisfied. It is hard to get used to not drinking but it is necessary. There is very little I can actually eat at this point without PBing so I try to stick with what I know to be safe for me. I am totally unable to eat meat since my last fill last week. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Banded 4/17/09 First fill 5/30/09 1.6 cc Second fill 7/10/09 .6 cc
  3. How did you know you had reached your sweet spot? I've had 2 fills. I'm now at 5.5 in a 10 cc band. The last fill has been quite challenging for me. It seemed fine the first week. I noticed the restriction but coped well and lost a few pounds quickly, but then the second week was so much harder as I was sliming and threw my food back up quite often. I seem to be better now and make sure I chew, chew, chew but can only eat small amounts at one time eg: 1/2 - 1 cup of food, can't eat a full apple and depending what I eat get hungry again 2-3 hours later. I'm losing weight still which is fantastic but I feel dizzy after bending down and then standing back up and not sure if I'm getting enough calories. Maybe my body is just adjusting to the limited amount of food- I don't know?! What are your experiences and how did you know you had reached your sweet spot?
  4. When I went to my one and only nutrition class, the nutritionist said we should be aiming to eat one *cup*. Then proceeded to show us a 10" dinner plate that was loaded. Looked to be a 2 oz piece of meat, *at least* a cup of broccoli and well over a cup of mashed potatoes. In one of my follow-ups, the doctor's surgical nurse (does fills) said I should be aiming for 3-4 oz of Protein, 1/2-3/4 cup vegies and, if still hungry, 1/4 cup carbs. When I actually got a chance to see the doctor two weeks ago (first time since my two week postop surgical visit over a year ago), he said I should be aiming for 1200 calories, make sure I get 60gm of protein a day and keep my carbs under 40 and the bulk of them should be from vegies (which will ultimately limit any other types of starches as a result). .
  5. Doing well, thank you. Sleeved on Dec 10 and the pain is gone for the most part. Feeling much better today than yesterday. I'm very happy about having 7 out of my 8 prescription meds discontinued and averaging 90 blood sugar in the morning. My challenge is getting through the next 2 weeks drinking this horrific shakes. Sampled 12 kinds and they all make me gag. Best of luck to your husband for continued success.

  7. I have been looking forward to this surgery for months now! It was a huge struggle throughout the year to even get to the point of scheduling, and I was so relieved when I finally had my date. I was psyched up and have been killing it with my pre op diet! All the sudden about 4 days ago it finally hit me, like a punch in the gut, that this was really happeing. I haven't been able to sleep and when I do I have HORRIBLE nightmares. I have been so nervous I am making myself ill. I have been vomiting and now dry heaving for 2 days straight because of nerves. On top of that I feel like I am going insane! Everything has been making me cry or unreasonably irritated. I hope I am not the only one that has felt this NEUROTIC before surgery. My excitement has turned into dark thoughts of everything going severly awry tomorrow! Please help!

    Stalled for 3 Weeks

This has been so accurate for me! I will drop 10-15 lbs really fast, and then it will slow down/stop for a bit, and then drop fast again. Repeat. I have to give myself a pep talk every time it happens!

    Weight gain post surgery. Help!

Totally normal, don't panic! I lost a quick 13 the first two weeks then was stuck for like 10 days and then started started seeing a few lbs come off. I literally had my 4 week check in with my surgeon today and he said he didn't even start looking for real loss until this point. It boils down to 3 things. 1) hit your hydration and Protein target. 2) stay off the scale 3) trust the process. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Bmi 35 Need To Lose 75 Lbs

I'm 5ft2.5 and was 224.. after my preop diet I was 212... I am almost 6 months out and I'm down 63 pounds.. month 5 I have only lost 2 pounds and actually jumped up a few lbs. I know people in my group at the doctors that had their surgery same time as me have lost 80 to 100 pounds. some were a lot heavier some were about the same as me. I always compared people to me. and it was driving me nuts.. I'm 161 right now.. size 8/10 you may lose slower cause you are considered a light weight.. best of luck

    Goal and a little!

Thanks guys! I'll have to look for some before pics (kinda hard to find one since I ran away from a camera) lol. I had surgery 2/28/13. Took me 10 1/2 months to get here but I don't mind. I don't consider myself a slow loser either. 100lbs in 10 months sounds pretty good to me. I'll go work on the pics now.
  12. Surgery May 19. I don't have a taste for anything, I barley eat because everything taste nasty. Anyone else going thru this?
  13. Hey everyone.. I finally have some decent insurance through BCBS IL. I called them and they told me all I have to do to qualify for surgery is have my doc submit a pre-authorization.. yet I keep reading different things. It's really hard for me to believe it would be that simple. I do have my first appointment on Monday 01/30/17 with my doc, super excited to start. I found a snippet in the medical policy saying 6 months of supervised diet is no longer required. I guess I will Find out Monday! If anyone has any info that would be greatly appreciated! bcbs.pdf

    Psych Evaluation

Well my appointment with the Psychiatrist went well. I spent most of my time answering a 370 questionnaire and listening to the Dr speak to a group of 10. After that we each had a one on one visit that lasted about 30 minutes. I also meet with the dietician and say the surgeon assistant to go over my labs. Next month will be my last weigh in and the last step is my sleep study. I did gain 3lbs. so hopefully that want cause any issues with the insurance approval. My goal is to loose 10lbs by my next visit and hopefully I will be approved for May.

    100 Swans

Crap! I didn't think of my phone. I'm actually a cell phone neophyte and haven't learned to use the photo part yet. That will be my job this weekend. Herds of elk, how cool. Here on Vancouver Island I've only seen them singly. And I believe they're not quite as big as mainland ones. One jumped off a bank onto my car one rainy night and wrecked it. I'm not sure how he fared as I couldn't find him afterward. Because we live on an estuary we get lots of sea birds and birds of prey. In the autumn I've counted 10 bald eagles out front. We also get sea and river otters. The seals stay out in the deeper bay Water. Love it.

I was banded on 9/10 also. I just started mushies today and had my first follow up today also. Am getting my first fill on 10/10.

    Am home

Hey Bob! Glad to hear things went well for you. I got home this morning also. You are so right, a hospital is a horrible place to get sleep. As a whole, I am doing well. I'm concerned that I might get dehydrated. Nothing sounds good, and drinking 1 ounce every 10-15 minutes is a chore. I'm a bit sore, especially the left side but the pain meds seem to take the edge off -although liquid Lortab - yuck! I hope your recovery (an mine for that matter) is quick and uneventful.

4 weeks post op & scale isn't decreasing

Watch this video, maybe it will explain it so you can understand it? Just be aware that 1 lb of fat is physically larger than 1 lb of muscle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBJziqgrQgk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozt-V0PPJawThanks for is, I do understand the difference between muscle weigh and fat weight, its seems quite an assumption that people are exercising to the extent that this is an answer, my point is more personally specific perhaps. As someone who is doing the same amount of exercise as they did pre-op - I cycle to work and back a round trip of 12 miles - and currently in a stall without loss of inches it isn't really the/an answer. If you've followed the thread/topic the OP and many others are new to WLS and I believe the comments are mostly directed towards this group. Most WLS patients are fairly new to an exercise routine so they could be adding muscle and still losing fat. The rule may not apply to someone like you? I see you're about one month out and you've lost 19 lbs? For many of us, it's not really a stall until it's at least a month. Going a week or two with no weight loss happens to many of us.

    Working and waiting

I don't know what type of Tricare you have but my first appointment with my primary care doctor (addressing weight loss surgery possibilities) was August 19, 2013 and my surgery date is January 16, 2014. I have Tricare Prime. All I had to do was: (in no particular order) 3 dietician appointments, exercise physiologist, 5 documented support groups, information session, sleep study, psychological evaluation and I was approved two weeks after my initial doctor appointment. As far as showing failed attempts of weight loss programs, all I had to do was write them down. I hope all works out for you. I've been on a 20 year diet it seems and my weight loss surgery journey has taken me 4.5 months. Good luck to anyone who reads this!!!

GAAAH! I only have 8 weeks to prep!

That was exactly what I was feeling and I have specific Vitamin requirements through Kaiser, couldnt find everything, had a small health scare then had a small meltdown. Decided there was WAY to much going on to get my surgery 10/2 so I changed it to 11/6. Now I wish I had not changed it, that last week has gone by so SLOW...but I do have one month to finish up things. I need to get my house in order, will updated, life insurance in order, a few more supplements, a few more Protein shakes and 2 more Vitamins. I have plenty of clothes I just need to get out what will be comfy enough to come home in and walk around the hospital...I lost my mind when I was 2 weeks out. I am hoping for more peace this time:)
