Hi, I am 10 weeks post-op for gastric bypass; performed on November 9, 2020. I have lost a total of 47 lbs. I have a few concerns. For the past two weeks I haven't been able to eat anything without being in excruciating pain. They also removed a Hiatal hernia during my surgery. I never knew I had a hernia, it didn't bother me, and now I'm really hurting. I usually end up making myself vomit when I eat something just to alleviate the pain. My concerns are, am I losing weight because of the surgery, or because I'm unable to eat, or drink. I threw up just after drinking a protein shake and was in pain for hours. I'm ok as long as I don't eat anything, but I don't want to become mal-nutritioned. I take my vitamins daily, but.... I need to get some nutrition. I saw my Dr on Thursday and he has ordered an endoscopy to see if my tube has become constricted (narrowed). If so, they'll open it back up. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, please advise.

Hello there! Congratulations! Has anyone found that you have loss too much weight with the gastric bypass?
-
I had a revision done on 1/11/21, MD made pouch smaller and did a distal bypass lengthening the common channel to 250 cm. I am still on liquids at this point but have lost 10 lbs. I was on a liver reduction diet 2 weeks prior to surgery and lost 17 lbs on that. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Leafstrong posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello I’m new to the group looking for others advice ....I do know deep down... I have the answer ..l am doing the right thing for myself..I have been going through the steps 1 more to go for gastric bypass as I have very bad reflux... I have 3 family members Who have gone through this 17 years ago one of whom one passed away from Mel nutrition... I chose to keep it quiet from some do to this So I thought ...the other two found out and all I’ve heard about is not to have the surgery done ...One regrets it she says she has flutters and dumping all the time the other one has gained a lot of her weight back ... I understand everyone is different.. I do take a heart pill because my heart skips a beat at times ..did talk to doctor and that is one thing I am concerned about heart flutters but as I have told my family members I wanna go through with this anyways so my question is to all of you have any of you had real bad spouts with these flutters and with male nutrition ?nowadays from reading up I know there are ways to combat that ? & has anyone else had family look down on them for something they feel is right for them ? Thanks for reading -

Nausea after revision from sleeve to bypass
Jetsfan2020 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone: I know that it may take some time for people to respond but I keep going to the doctor to complain but its not helping. In 2015 I had the sleeve but after losing 50 pounds, within 5 years I gained it all back. In July 2020 I had the bypass. I'm down over 110 pounds which is amazing. The problem is that I'm finding that even foods, that I originally could eat after surgery, I now can't eat. Almost everything I eat makes me nauseous or I get sick. I'm literally dependent on protein shakes and quest bars as my only source of viable nutrition. I was prescribed zofran but so far that hasn't helped at all. Did anyone else have similar experiences? Any guidance, thoughts, tricks or food suggestions would be appreciated. I really have found that all natural proteins make me sick. Thanks, Phil -
Revision due to GERD
jlalexan02 replied to Nurse Crystal's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm in the same situation with sleeve in 2013 and now surgeon is suggesting a revision to bypass or LINX to help with the severe GERD. However, they strongly recommend bypass so I'm here to do all the research I can on the experience others have had with similar situations. Would love to have the GERD gone and weight loss would be nice but terrified that bypass will actually be way more painful than I am expecting and have worse side effects like weight gain and dumping and maybe I should just deal with the GERD. Feeling really confused and hoping this forum helps me come to terms with a decision. -
Guys I'm so scared and nervous, I know this will be the start of a fantastic journey but surgery terrifies me. Only part I'm worried about is how ill feel when I wake up. Any encouraging thoughts or words would be much appreciated. Wish me luck!! Sent from my SM-G981U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello
My guess would be to add calorie dense food such as nuts, good fats, etc...but you may get a better response or a more tailored respone from the main boards https://www.bariatricpal.com/discover/unread/?&stream_unread_links=1&stream_classes[IPS\forums\Topic]=1

Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass
butterisnotacarb replied to NYCGirl9269's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not a psychiatrist but Vyvanse is slow release Dexedrine or Dextroamphetamine. I was put on Dexedrine when diagnosed with bad ADHD at 14 and no other ADHD med, including Vyvanse, has worked for me since. I totally get that part. You'd have to talk to your doc about Dexedrine (the capsules are way better than the tablet for me personally) and everyone is different. Since its not extended release, I take it twice a day. Just thought I'd mention it as an alternative to Vyvanse that may work with the bypass. Good luck to you! -
Food Before and After Photos
Pandemonium replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So I have pretty much been doing nothing but meal replacement again since November, so no fun dinner experiments to be found. Decided today I needed something after a kind of confusing cardio consult brought on my my syncope incident Sunday night. They checked my blood pressure and it was 85/52, which is obviously ridiculously low. So, they are treating me for low blood pressure (even though I have NEVER had low blood pressure any of the times it has been measured post-op). My options were to try medication that would bring my BP up...or to increase my Sodium intake. I opted to try the dietary route (since next week I finally start post-op work with the nutritionist so I'll be moving towards normal foods) because I don't want to contend with medication side effects unless absolutely necessary. Granted, I also don't want to lose consciousness and bounce my head off the floor again either. So tonight I made myself a Mexican Pizza. Taco seasoned ground chicken, taco sauce, and some shredded Mexican 4-cheese blend on a Protein Pizza shell. I should have put the pizza shell in the air fryer for a few minutes on it's own to crisp it up a bit better, but it came out pretty yummy and I am happy with my little culinary treat. -
I stumbled across a YouTuber called Frankenbelly who had her gastric bypass reversed due to terrible complications. She also has a blog about it: https://inthelifeofmyfrankenbelly.wordpress.com/ Keep in mind that her gastric bypass surgery was 14 years ago, and complication rates have decreased a lot since then. Reversal surgery is very rare and I would imagine that most surgeons wouldn't even consider it unless there were very compelling medical reasons.

The OP is referring to bypass not an a VSG....its in the thread header and is posting in the bypass subforum.

If it helps, through research and my medical friends bypass is the way to go. That is the most popular route. I wish you the best and sorry it’s been difficult

I had a sleeve with GERD too, and my surgeon in the first appointment had LINX as an option. Having read about the trouble lapbanders have, with esophageal erosion and slippage and other nasty complications I was not enthusiastic about a foreign body being placed around my esophagus. It turned out I was not a LINX candidate due to other conditions so I revised to bypass.

Hey all, so I've been lurking for about a year, off and on and finally made an account once I received a surgery date. Backstory in a nutshell: This is not my first rodeo. Been on a bajillion diets and yo-yo'ed for too long. Had some success, some lasting years, but my Achilles heel is keeping it off. I like to exercise so mostly that part of the equation has not been a sticking point for me. I started my journey to WLS on Oct 2019. I wrapped up my insurance-required steps by April 2020 BUT initially had been doing so well on my own with losing that I thought perhaps I wouldn't even go the WLS route. Then covid happened and threw me off balance a bit, but I kept to my exercise and keto/low carb diet with success. Things went wonky in June when I broke my ankle and then again in December when I sprained that same ankle (grrrr). All my progress stalled while I healed and it didn't take much for me to gain nearly all my lost weight back in about 7 months. I asked my bariatric team to go ahead and submit my paperwork in November, I think. Processes were slow due to the virus, but I was shocked to get a pretty quick approval and surgery date for Dec 17. That was put on hold, but just this week I received a call that elective surgeries were being scheduled again. I have pre-op visits on Jan 22 with the anesthesiologist and surgeon. I am not sure if I'll have to do a pre-op diet. Guess the surgeon will tell me Friday! I'm pretty excited and trying not to be too nervous about the days ahead. I'm married and have two kids (ages 18 & 20). My username is kind of a private joke. No matter how heavy I am, I've always thought I had nice ankles. 😄 So anyway...Hi! 😊

ChubRub's Plastic Surgery Thread
Darktowerdream replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I just read that a few times because that is the month I had my gastric bypass surgery ... around Easter I was in a bad place my birthday was coming around and the weight was piling on despite every effort to fight it ... I did not think the surgery was going to happen I found out a week before it was scheduled April 29th 2019 and now I cannot believe April this year will be two years??? Has it already been eight months since I had plastics? I am not good with tracking time ... June 14 2020. I still have not worn a swimsuit officially but with the whole Covid thing I havent gone to the pool here and I have chemical sensitivities and not sure I wanted to risk my sensitive skin with chlorine ... I wish they would do salt water pools but they would never convert them ... they are shared pools per condo association. My Mom goes swimming as often as is possible. sorry your post got me thinking (thats dangerous!) probably for the best not to be too active right now. and thankfully the humidity is not too bad right now. took a while for me to be able to venture out for a walk around the nature preserves I love. -
Just out of curiosity, have any of you ever seriously considered having your WLS procedure reversed? If so, did you discuss options with your surgeon? If so, what was his/her response?

I’ve been at 290-295 since end of November. I’m supposed to be down to 260 by my next weight check in in March. I walk 2 times a day. Run 3-4 days a week. Usually eyeball my meals. What can I do to get this weight falling off again?!? Thanks!!!

Help! 8 months post. All the sudden I'm sick after eating. Anyone else?
MaybeMeow2 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I'm 7.5 months post Bypass and all the sudden I'm miserable. When I eat my stomach instantly bubbles and eventually my bowel starts cramping and I'm stuck on the toilet. If I'm constipated, I'm there until I'm cleared out and liquid diarrhea happens. If I'm not constipated it's just the liquid diarrhea. The catch is I've changed nothing! I'm eating the same foods I've always eaten since 8 weeks post. Low carb high protein. But this happens regardless of intake. It doesn't sound like the symptoms of developing an ulcer which I know can happen around this time. At first I thought maybe I just had a bug. But I'm moving onto the 2nd week of it and have no other symptoms. I eat. My bowels go into hyper drive and I after excruciating cramps I have liquid diarrhea. No new foods. Just new symptoms at almost 8 months post op. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on? I'm at the point now I can't leave the house confidently and I don't want to eat. -
Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

Congrats on your upcoming surgery, I had Bypass on Aug 24th. I don't care for milk but the premier protien shakes are pretty good. The Banana, Caramel, Strawberry, Blueberry and Cookies & Cream are the best in my opinion plus you only need them for about a month then youll be eating mostly regular soft foods then solids gradually. You'll do great 👍 -

Severe Pain in legs! 20 wks post R&Y
kelly Lake posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my Gastric Bypass Surgery and Galbladder removal on Aug 24th 2020, just almost 20 weeks ago. I have lost 68 lbs since Surgery and 88 lbs since my heaviest weight in May of 313, Im about 224.4 now. Everything is going along pretty textbook except for 1 thing. I have horrible Aching Continuous Pain in my legs (especially my left leg, outer thigh close to the side of the knee and a lil in the outer calf sometimes. It's not fatigue and I get plenty of all my vitamins and supplements plus I eat a high protein, nutrient rich diet and add electrolites to my 64+ oz of fluids each day. I am having Telemedicine appts with my Surgeon and my Nutritionist today thankfully and I plan to consult them on this but have any of you experienced this? Tylenol muscel creams and some stretching usually helps but I have had nights where they just didn't cut it and it felt like my bones were on fire! I definitely cannot continue to endure this nightly as I have for the last few weeks. I understand that a large quick weightloss can change your gate and how your body carries the weight causing nerves, tendons and muscles to respond this way but Jesus It's awful and it quickly goes away if I get up and walk around. It starts promptly with lying down in bed and persists regardless of position. I have chronic severe back issues that began about 12 yrs ago, My pain & loss of mobility along with weight gain topping me off at 313 lbs (I'm 5 ft. 3") got so severe that I had 7 back surgeries in a 3 yr period that ALL failed. DDD Degenerative Disc Disease, Spinal Stenosis and a some herniated discs prompted my Back Surgeons to declare me officially inoperable, so they along with my Primary Dr. & Counselors recommend I have Bariatric weight loss syrgery & I'm so glad I did! Its very frustrating for Me now tho to have regained about 80% of my mobility and reduced the regular daily & constant pain in my back by about 60% so far only to have this awful pain in my legs at night every freakin night now. I'm losing sleep nightly causing me to be tired all day, get less done, not exercise, be easily irritated in the day, agitated and frustrated. I NEED this to go away and I cannot take any opioid pain meds outside of the required serious post op situations. I am in long term recovery from a physical addiction to pain meds caused by an over prescribing horrible Pain mngmt Dr. Side note: That Pain mngmt Dr. is No longer allowed to practice medicine. Any shared experiences and info is much appreciated 🙏 -
Setting Weight Loss Goals
kelly Lake replied to clippergear's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congrats on Bariatric Surgery! I had my Gastric Bypass Surgery and Galbladder removal on Aug 24 2020 and honestly I was discouraged by my initial weightloss because I was comparing my losses to others. I was told to set reasonable obtainable goals for myself to start off and to focus those goals around fluids and protien and never the scale. I am at almost 20 weeks post op and I've lost about 68 lbs so far, 88 lbs since May. I was reminded by my surgeon tbat everyone gained tgeir weight differently so We should expect to lose it differently. I am proud of every singke pound I lose and I have also had weeks where I lost nothing. I will say snacking was the culprit there! Lol.. Just focus on the actions you can control, simple healthy guidelines and see how your body responds to them. No more than once a week weigh ins are best I know my weight can fluctuate due to salt, hormones, time of tge month etc so I don't weigh on my cycle and I shoot for every Sunday evening as a guideline. Message me anytime for anything!!
