I wouldn't worry about it too much, normally surgeons leave PLENTY of time between cases for those issues, it's also possible that, that 5pm surgery is your surgeon's only surgery that day, and that it's that late because of all the other standard appointments they have with other patients. My surgery was SUPER early, so I can't talk to that part of the process, but if you are going in for your first WLS, the bypass generally only takes 2-3 hours total to perform. My revision took over 6, but that's because the lapband I was having removed was full encased in scar tissue and took way longer to get out than expected. Chalk the fears up to the typical pre-surgical jitters. Congrats and good luck!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
ellie123 replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi @ttjmom. It’s a long story. Sleeve has been awesome for many, just not for me. If you care to read it, here you go... 3rd Bariatric Surgery: I realize that most people will probably gloss over this topic...because for most 1 surgery works and is enough and if you fall into this category, please know how fortunate you are. This is not my story I am 5'8. In 2007 I was 273lb's and miserable! I got a Band. Following 13 fills and unfills the best I lost was 60lb's, I never achieved restriction, and unfilled to have 2 kids. All weight returned. In an unrelated accident my port flipped, and in 2015 at 265lb's I was revised to a Gastric Sleeve (Also had my gallbladder taken out, a Haital hernia repaired and the band removed). I lost 60lb's in the first 4 months and then...stopped loosing. At 205lb's I would have been happy with my results, but then, I felt no restriction and started to regain! Fast forward almost 3 years to today...I have developed GERD pretty bad and I've regained most of what I lost back! My stomach feels hungry every hour or two, I could always eat WAY more than my sleeved friends, and once I got myself full, it would not take long for the deep primal hunger to return. I have no relief from hunger. Especially at night, I'm ravenous! I became a grazer! I felt that the Ghrelin was back with an Army to fight me! A 80% international traveling job plus unlimited access to food in the best restaurants around the globe did not help. I have felt dejected, humiliated, like a failure, angry, frustrated and the list goes on for miles, if you are still reading, you probably know how I feel. And indeed, It's not just about how I look...it's about how I feel. Horrible!! My weight is pressing, intrusive and pervasive. There is no time that I am not aware of it. I have sleep Apnea, I can't keep up with my 6 and 7 year old's and the simple things in life are hard again. Completely demoralizing... After almost 3 years, I finally said "Enough" and went back to a new Surgeon. An Endoscopy revealed it has not all been my fault. My Sleeve was cut too big to begin with! My new surgeon reveled he knows the work of the previous surgeon who apparently was not very skilled at the time and making sleeves too big to be successful. A Bougie 42 was was too big to begin with but in my case, even that was very loosely cut. To top it off, my Sleeve was mis-shapen to begin with as well, setting me up for failure and I have a Stricture in the middle, causing me to have an Hourglass shape. Top fills up, stretches, bottom is hungry, then food goes to the bottom and is still there, top is hungry, in short...a hot mess! Miraculously given the Haital Hernia, GERD, Stricture and botched initial surgery, my insurance (that does not cover Bariatrics) has approved a revision to Bypass on Aug 22nd. I've been combing the internet for Sleeve to RNY revision but such information is not as readily available as 1st timers. I am so nervous...so frightened to go through with this. Scared of Anesthesia, scared how I would do, scared of the 3 week post op liquid only phase. Scared that I will fail again, that this will not work. Some Surgeons (like the Pound of Cure guy say you can only expect to loose 10 - 25lbs on a Sleeve to RNY revision, woa?? ) But I have to try...I want to live a full and vibrant life and not just exist like an Amoeba! This is truly Project last chance. My husband is supportive, but my friends, judgmental and not supportive. and if ever I needed some advice, encouragement, support etc...it's now... Nervous but cautiously hopeful, and very much in need of your support... Ellie -
August 22nd! Sleeve to RNY revision and looking for some buddies :))

Hi! I’m new to this thread. It seems like such a fun group! Wish I had joined it earlier! My date is Aug 22nd!! Coming up fast!!! I’m a Sleeve to RNY revision. Long story... but was wondering if there are any others the week if Aug 21st? Could really use the support... -
I’m assuming that post op diarrhea is normal due to the stages of eating . I just had a revision from band to rny on Thursday so I’m 6 days post op. I was just discharged Sunday . I’m on stage 1 of clear liquids still and protein. I’m gassy and every gas is watery stools and constant . I’m also on an antibiotic and the side effect could be the trots . I’m sure sugar alcohol had aggravated it too. I’m just worried about dehydration happening as I’m trying to stay hydrated . I did introduce a triple zero Greek yogurt today because I’m tolerating fluid fine just being slow as instructed . I have had waters, a premier protein shake , some broth, some high protein low sugar ice cream (Enlightened) so about 300 calories today . I’m probably extra gassy from the 3 net carb good for you ice cream but I was already pouring watery stools being just on clear fluids . I’m hoping that once other textures come back that this tapers off? Thursday they should start me level 2 since I ate Greek yogurt today as I consider it liquid once it goes in.

Which Procedure is Right for Me
Bryn910 replied to SteveT74's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
it seems like you would have success with either surgery honestly. But since you mentioned diabetes, I would go with RNY only because of the way it could alter your tastebuds, malabsorption and possibility of dumping. I was a huge sugar/carb person and had VSG. I felt the VSG allowed too much leeway after a while. And I see many people still eat carbs, fried foods, sugar etc with the sleeve. Now with a revision to RNY, no way can I have an abundance of sugar and/or carbs. I get uncomfortable and some diarrhea. I am 3 months out and still trying new foods and learning but these “consequences” let me know what I need to stay away from. Which is what I wanted all along. Whatever you choose, good luck and much success to you -
Which Procedure is Right for Me
MarinaGirl replied to SteveT74's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Many folks that select VSG either don’t reach goal, do not get resolution of diabetes long term, or develop GERD and end up revising to gastric bypass. I recommend RNY so you don’t have to have a second WLS down the road. Good luck! -
I just had a band to sleeve revision on 7/24. Best decision ever.

Tobey Hospital Wareham,MA
MsMelissa replied to MsMelissa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, pre op classes lol at least that's what they called them when I had my Lap Band done in 2005. The classes at Tufts NEMC cost $250 each and we had to take three of them. That was also when you had to pay for lap band fills. So a long time ago. I'm asking about Tobey. I was hoping I'd find someone to chat with about their experience with Tobey's bariatric program. Especially if they have had a revision from Lap to something else. -
Right with you. Had lap band 12 years ago. Dropped 100 pounds and stayed in the 220's for years. Then the trouble started. Dilated esophagus. Slip. Blah blah blah. Had the band removed a year ago - my doc does not do revisions at time of removal - I had to clear up damage first. Horrible weight gain since removal. I'm getting the sleeve next week. Can't wait.

Anyone not just stalled, but gained, weight Post-op week 2-3?
GB2018 replied to GB2018's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks! Yeah, I am prepared to lose slowly being a revision. I guess I’m just worried about how the scale is moving up for over a week now. Lol. I will definitely just keep going doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. -
Anyone not just stalled, but gained, weight Post-op week 2-3?
Matt Z replied to GB2018's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good call on this one, @GB73018 us revisions tend to lose slower overall, just something else to watch out for and be ready for mentally. Even being aware of it, like I was, didn't prepare me for the frustration of watching others drop weight hand over fist while I just keep slowly losing. But rest assured, if you keep yourself on track, you'll lose the weight just fine, it just might not seem as drastic as those that didn't have a WLS already. -

KimTriesRNY replied to GB2018's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I agree with Matt. Also, as a revision surgery you are likely to not lose as quickly someone who is having a bariatric surgery for the first time. Let your body heal and follow the program and you will see results! -

GB2018 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone! I posted this similar post on a reply another post, but I thought I would start a new post. I had a gastric sleeve 3/14/2016. I had a sleeve to bypass revision on 7/30/18 due to reflux and nausea, and to try to get me closer to my goal. I am post-op 15 days. I lost 14 pounds from 1 week pre-op and 1 week post-op clear liquid diet. I started full liquids on 8/5/2018 and started pureed (Mashables) two days ago, 8/12/18. I am staying around 60-70 grams of Protein per day and about 450-650 calories. I am struggling a little bit with getting my fluids in... I'm around 50 ounces per day of Water. The day I started full liquids (actually taking in any calories) I stopped losing any weight. I have now gained 3.6 pounds since Sunday, 8/5/18. My NUT told me yesterday that my body is holding on to every calorie right now and it will change in time. I am a little frustrated. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I would love to hear y'all's feedback! -
I’m in the DFW area. I had a Band to Sleeve revision on 7/24/18.
-
I got to that point about 4 years in or so. Nothing I did would get me to stay under the 300 mark. Ultimately, I was revised to the bypass. My surgeon advised me that the Lapband was over hyped and under performed, that 2 of the largest manufacturers have sold off or stopped making new or replacement parts for their versions of the bands. When they removed the band, even though I didn't have any major issues going to the revision, the band was 100% encapsulated in scar tissue and took my surgical team more than 3 times longer to remove it than it should have taken. I'd hate to think what would have happened if I left it in!

Surgery Scheduled! Revision Sleeve to Bypass
mikavick replied to shoregirl75's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi All, I had gastric sleeve in 2011 and kept off about a 100 pound. On June 13 I had a revision to gastric bypass. I am down roughly about 35 pounds since the bypass. But I seem to hit a lot of walls my weight either stays the same or goes up or down 1 pound . I am getting my proteins and water intake. I do walk every other day. I am eating about 1300 calories a day all good healthy stuff. I just cant figure out why I am not losing much weight. Anyone have this issue?? -
I had a lapband installed in 2011 and had it removed this past April and had the sleeve revision done in the same surgery. I would strongly consider doing the same no point in having two surgeries and two recoveries. The lapband was Hell I was always stuck and throwing up while loosing weight and then plateaued and would just get stuck all the time. Saucey foods became a normal just to get the food to go in and fluid intake sucked. The sleeve has been way easier for me, the initial liquid diet part was difficult but tolerable and the post surgery diet while could stand to be better has been more forgiving since portions are extremely limited. Id get another opinion on your surgery methods. Good luck

Why not just revise in 1 surgery? There are **PLENTY** of folks that have Band to Sleeve or Band to Bypass revision done in the same day, curious why your doc wants to do it in 2 steps rather than 1 like most cases. Something to be aware of, the sleeve has the potential side effect (actually effects most people) where acid reflux is increased. My doctor refuses to do Band to Sleeve revisions because the sleeve staple line runs right through the scar tissue the band has created, and this causes a potential weak spot on a high pressure incision. There are plenty of folks that have gone from Band to Sleeve, I agreed with my surgeons logic and reasoning and went for the Bypass. Best decision I ever made getting that band out... I didn't have any major issues, but my band was 100% encapsulated in scar tissue and took my surgical team more than 3 times longer to remove than it should have. No idea what would have happened if I didn't have it removed! But, even though it was a very tedious removal, I was revised to the bypass in the same exact surgery.

Here we go .. goodbye band hello rny
Csmart1212 replied to sld21's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Starting this process now with my surgeon after 8 years with my band over 100lb loss and now esophageal dilitation caused me to have to unfill band and have had an o going weight gain. He recommended bypass and we are checking with insurance now. Anyone have issue with insurance not covering a revision due to complications of the band? -
I’m 3 days post op from plication to bypass revision and am Miserable! Between the intense stomach cramps to the diarrhea, dry heaves and sweats, I can say this is not fun! Any recommendations? Please tell me this will get better. It seems I’m either sleeping or on the toilet. I’m trying to walk and get fluids down but between the other two things there just doesn’t seem to be the time.

Regular Dr wont provide approval
Matt Z replied to cap024's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm curious why you are going in expecting to be denied? At 5 foot 1 and 220 lbs, you have BMI of 41.6, I don't know of any insurance that won't approve revision with a BMI that high. (they might have other hoops to jump though, but you aren't a low BMI, so the BMI itself wouldn't be reason for denial).
