Struggling with fatigue and lethargy
Patrick powers replied to AbbeySteel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did you get to add yogurt? They say I can't have anything but liquids? Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was so glad to see this post because foods like yogurt and cottage cheese that I used to love taste off to me. I was wondering if this was normal. I'm still in the soft food phase so am still eating a lot of soup. I'm so curious to know why my tastebuds have turned against me.

Hey there, fellow Massachusetts person! Here are a few options that might work for you for protein: If you like soups such as creamy tomato, butternut bisque, etc., add a scoop or two (10-20g protein) of unflavored protein powder such as Isopure or Syntrax to the soup. Also, if you make a canned soup like cream of chicken, make it with Fairlife skim milk for even more protein. 1/2 a cup cream of chicken with 1 scoop of protein would give you about 17g protein. If you are at a stage where you can have apples, make a great protein dip by taking 1 cup Greek yogurt and adding one serving chocolate protein powder and 1 scoop powdered peanut butter and eat 1/2 cup with 1/2 an apple. This gives you around 25g protein depending what brands you are using and tastes delicious. A great source of plant-based protein is edamame, which they sell already shelled and lightly salted, ready to eat, in the produce section of Hannaford (and probably other stores, I would assume). Also, four of the cracker-sized slices of Cabot cheddar have 8g protein, and if you pair it with Triscuit thins, that's another 3g for a nice 10g snack (when you can have crackers).

Travel At 5 Weeks?
Rev Me Up! replied to OilSooner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be OK, but you won't know what your eating habits will be until you get closer to that time. I was 100% eating solids by the 5 week mark, just very little of them. I have never really been into the Protein drinks, so that was never an issue for me. You will want to have some Snacks tucked into your purse at all times so you can have mini-meals during the day as needed. If there are cheese or deli meats served at Breakfast, bust out a zip-lock bag and save them for later in the day. If there are yogurt cups, tuck one into your bag. That will keep you from having any meal panic during the day. Most of all - do not push yourself while on the trip. Drink a lot of fluids, don't forget to eat, and make sure you get plenty of rest. You may still have fatigue at 5 weeks (mine lasted more than 8 weeks). Good luck - you can do it! -
Your yogurt: 160 calories, 11 grams Protein, 2.3 grams fat, 19 sugar, 20 carbs. I'd personally go with a lower cal version . Dannon makes a light and fit, double protein blended (including the coconut) with 80 cals, 0 fat, 9 carbs, 7 sugar and 12 protein. It's delicious. That said, if you are under calories and carbs and you love this particular yogurt, eat it. It's fine.

I am 9 days out from VGS and am on a liquid diet until day 21. I can have Clear liquids and Protein shakes. No yogurt. I am so tired of drinking. I am not ready for meat, but a yogurt or watered down oatmeal would be great. I am only getting 500-600 calories a day and my body has slowed the weight loss because it is in starvation mode. Difficult when you are consuming so little and the scale barely moves. Physically the surgery was much easier than I anticipated, but it is a mental roller coaster

Hopefully she meant yogurt without bits in it. Since it caused you discomfort, you could dilute it with milk and strain it.

Well here goes nothin!
LynnMarie88 replied to Amanda Nicole Hosaflook's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 2 days post op. Going home today. I was really nervous before, but it's over before you know it. So far everything is going great. I'm already switched to oxycodone in pill form for pain. It's not unbearable pain. My worst would be a 4, but most of the time 2-3. Really just a little stiff, but getting up and walking around makes me feel a lot better. Today I am being moved to stage 3 diet, so I can have full liquids and really soft food like yogurt. -

Pre Op diet disaster
Creekimp13 replied to Cam Paige's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the point of the liquid diet is to prepare you mentally for what's to come. Right now, you can cheat a little and nothing horrible will happen (unless you don't shrink your liver and your doctor decides not to do your surgery....it's happened) But here's the problem.... Immediately after surgery, you have about two to three days where you don't ingest ANY calories...just clear fluids. Then, you're on shakes and clear liquid for TWO MORE WEEKS. You'll get like 400 calories a day if you're lucky. And If you screw up and eat something AFTER surgery? You can really hurt yourself and end up needing emergency surgery for whatever you get stuck. My doctor did a talk about all the horror stories of his career....the stupid things people ate and the trouble they got into. Not good. AVOID THIS. You're just getting started. For me, it was the post surgical period where I nearly gnawed my own arm off. LOL But yeah...that MONTH of freakin starvation just sucked. It really did. Honestly....it was much harder (in my opinion) than the actual surgery. But the good news...is that you will survive it. And you'll drop quite a few pounds to soothe your misery. And you'll be eating yogurt and cream of wheat before you know it. I was on the liquid diet for Thanksgiving and cooked for my family. OMG...so hard! For Christmas, though...I get to eat finely cut up turkey and mashed potatoes. And it sounds like heaven. You all have my sympathies. Stay strong! -
As someone who rarely cooks is it weird that I am ridiculously proud of myself for digging out my slow cooker this week? I have been thinking about investing in a 3 in 1 cooker, but since I rarely use my old-fashioned slow cooker I though I had better give it a whirl. I raised my pantry and used a can of black beans, two cans of Rotel tomatoes, one brick of Greek yogurt cream cheese, a few shakes of Mexican seasoning, and two frozen chicken thighs. I made it on Monday and will probably still be eating it this Friday. I still have chicken thighs. What EASY recipe should I try next?

Yes... And no. In this shake I do not taste it at all. You have to put it in things that will mask the flavor. I have put too much in yogurt and it was not good. In this shake, I really do not taste any of it.

Nervous about upcoming RNY surgery!
butterfly2433@gmail.com replied to Janifer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Janifer! Just wanted to give you an update...I had my surgery on 10/29. I had quite a bit of pain for the first 24 hours or so until they finally was able to manage it with the correct pain meds. They said that since I have chronic back pain and I am on daily pain meds already, that the normal pain meds that they give someone coming out of surgery was not working for me. They adjusted everything though and got the pain tolerable. So after that, I only had to stay 2 nights and once I could tolerate full liquids they let me go home. I went through my first week with full liquids ok. I did get very emotional for a few days starting on the Saturday after my surgery. That was a little rough, but it seemed to last about 3 days and then I was ok. Now I'm just in the middle of my 2nd week and I am able to eat puréed food. That was exciting! I've never really cared too much for refried beans, but let me tell ya, those beans with some melted reduced fat cheese and just a little scoop of Greek yogurt tasted amazing that first day!! Everyday things are getting better and better and I'm so glad that I made the decision that I made! I wouldn't change it for nothing in the world! So how are you doing? Hope everything is well with you! -

2 week post op and worried I am not doing it right!!!
Bozzj replied to Csplash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'd check with your doc because mine doesn't allow oatmeal or chicken salad yet. i have to be on mushies for 2 weeks before i can have it. i've been eating cottage cheese doubles, yogurt, campbell's select Soups, mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes and creamed spinach from boston market, pastina (not filling though so i only had it once), runny scrambled eggs, farina, Water based Protein shakes. -
2 weeks post op-what were you eating?
Paigey replied to babyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now two weeks post op and just started with the mushies in the last couple of days. I am still starting my day off with a Protein shake. I think it helps me to control any hunger pangs I might get before lunchtime. I've been able to tolerate most soups, but only in small quantities. I tried some homemade mac and cheese and that did okay for me, but I should have stopped about to two spoons before I actually did. Sometimes it feels like there is a rock sitting right between my breasts in my chest. Cottage cheese with a little salt and pepper is very filling, as is the Yoplait 100 calorie yogurts. If I am still hungry or just want to eat, I either have a sugar free popsicle or sugar free Jello. I've printed out several crock pot recipes that I'd like to try this week, but I'm really just scared to eat. It feels like the band is stopping me from eating too much, but since I haven't had a fill yet, I wonder how much of it is real and how much of it is just in my head. -
I Invented A New Low-Carb, High Protein Food Today
amarieh replied to DesertRat's topic in Food and Nutrition
Greek yogurt is a main part of my diet because it has double the protein. You can add a tiny bit of jam to it and it will taste delicious. It goes down very smoothly and is filling....so I still eat it even though I am on "full foods". -
Can’t drink protein shakes! Post op
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to KrystalRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Let me second or third or whatever protein water. There are several different brands available; you can find them online if not at a local grocery store. I'm currently drinking Protein2O; 15 grams of protein per 16.9 oz. bottle. Another suggestion would simply be to try different flavors and brands of protein shakes to see if you can find something that works. And you just need to make it through the first month or so before things get a lot easier and you have more choices. Yogurt and cottage cheese and actual food are in the future. -
2nd fill tomorrow... no loss since 1st fill
sunnysandy replied to jingleboob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand exactly what you are saying about the stomach ..I start my day early too..SOmething that I don't see you doing is a Protein shake. Maybe you didn't say. My nutrionist told me...always a protein shake..and get creative with adding things--such as a lil peanut butter-- using milk. The other thing that she told me that has just made me a very happy person is fruit. I was not a huge fruit eatter before my band but now -- I have a new found love for apples. She explained that the more Fiber I put into my diet the less I will need fills..and it will help with losing weight. I am about 12 weeks post -op and have cut back on my protein shake to once a day...add a banana, ff milk and tsp of Peanut Butter...it really makes me feel fuller then a yogurt. If I am having a second one because I am famished..which has only happened just a few times...I leave out the banana and milk...to cut calories...that is the only thing with them they are important but can be very caloric - GOOD LUCK -
2nd fill tomorrow... no loss since 1st fill
jingleboob posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost and gained the same 3 lbs since my 1st fill in the end of September. Of course I'm due for TOM in 4 days so I can already feel the bloating. Is it ridiculous that I'm worried I'll "get in trouble" for not losing when I go in tomorrow? The thought of being scolded my the dr. makes me cringe. I've quit doctors for that kind of thing, and I really like this group! I haven't been 100%. I've been eating more than I should. Not necessarily "bad" foods, just too much. We do have pizza once or twice a month, and I make sure to order it with half veggies so I can have 1 slice that's loaded with veggies. But 3 meals a day at 1 cup each isn't holding me, and even a lowfat cheesestick or fat free greek yogurt between meals doesn't make me get through. I am worried that my split sleep schedule is making the recommended meal times unrealistic for me. I'm up at 4am and at work by 5am. Have Breakfast when I get to work at 5am. So by 8 or 9 am I am really hungry. I have a cheese stick. Then an hour or 2 later I'm really hungry- loudly gurgling and feeling sick to my stomach from the hunger again. If I drink a big glass of Water when I'm feeling like that it actually makes the feeling worse, after 5 minutes I'm twice as hungry as I was before. So lunch at about 10am. Home at 1pm, snack of another cheese stick or 1/2 cup of chili or something like that. Nap until 5pm. dinner with the family around 6 or 630. Then by 9 I'm super hungry again. I'm about cheese sticked out. I'm up until midnight so I've got to have a little something or I toss and turn and don't get sleep because of the gurgling stomach/nausea from hunger. I'm getting 1000 - 1200 cal/day. Drinking my water. Just hungry. And if I let myself get too hungry it's so easy to eat too fast or not chew enough and then ouch. so I've been going down and up and down and up by the same 3 stinking pounds. I've got to re-vamp the way I'm doing something, just not sure how to exactly. Anyone else have a ridiculous schedule that can share advice with me? -
3 Days Post Op And Starving!!
Ladybug28 replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless you're putting protein in your broth, you're not getting any protein in broth, jello, and tea. Are you counting your protein grams daily? Unjury makes a really good broth that is 21gr in 8oz. Greek yogurt is good protein although it has a fair amount of carbs too. Hope it gets better for you. -
3 Weeks Post Op - Traveling For The Weekend
wildrose1966 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks out on pureed and blenderized and am traveling for work this weekend. Hotel rooms and hosting clients at a football game. I know I can do the yogurt, cream of wheat for bfast, and soup for the other meals as I am sure not going to ask a restaurant to puree my meat for me, and I am going to bring some of my optifast to help out especially for the football game in a catered suite. My instructions say thinned mashed potatoes, pasta.........so I can probably get away with a small portion of pasta, well chewed if I end up in a restaurant setting. Have been doing so great with eating my chicken protein this week, I suppose if I could find a rotissere chicken well cut up and chewed I could possibly get by on that too. Any other suggestions would be great. -
2 weeks out, what are you eating?
thegeek replied to fletcher97701's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At two weeks, my surgeon's plan said I could start the mushies. You'll want to check with your Dr first, but I've been living on the following: Cream of Wheat Egg (1, with a little salsa) String cheese Cottage Cheese Soups from a local Soup shop (puree'd) Lite Yogurt etc. It hasn't been that bad. Again, check with your Dr, but those are the things that are working for me.
