    Soon to be banded

I'm getting banded on the 27th which is kinda like the 29th in S. Korea I was looking for someone who was around the same time I was. I am getting really nervous, too. I have waited 3 years and can't believe it is a week away! Good luck! I look forward to sharing our progress!
  2. Feb 21st banded, recovery time done, thought I was getting it but actually I wasn't.......but this week things have really started to slot into place, I had a rather bad "stick" last weekend but was fortunate enough to have a visit booked on Monday and had a really good chat with my nurse and I had my second band fill, then attended a group session, which was the first for my area. It was great to meet other people and discuss how we we're find things. I started using a smart phone app called "eat slower" which has really helped with my eating. I also bought a hot plate to help keep my food from going cold as I keep the chew chew chew going. Both things have really helped. I have just finished a session with my new personal trainer and am actually feeling rather good about myself. In 10 weeks there is a huge difference in my physical appearance and more importantly my metal wellbeing. I feel as though I am really only now starting to embrace my band and understand how I go forward....coz one thing is for sure I don't intend to go backwards.

I Am New To This Site

Did you and your husband have the procedure on the same day? Would you recommend that? We are both looking at the surgery and were wondering if it's okay to go the same day or if we should be about a week apart. Thanks!
  4. Ok, so I am choosing to start my pre-op diet 1 week early not because i wanna lose lbs but i want to really jump start my liver reduction to limit any surgical problems. As of today i have 2 days left to indulge myself and eat all the goodies that i want cuz come monday it's on! Has anyone else done this or am i the only one?

    Worried

When do you meet with the surgeon again, the hospital I'm having surgery at you can't gain over ten pounds so I'm always watching what I eat trying my best not to gain, if your next appointment is a few weeks away that gives you enough time to come down some, your almost there think positive......duh I just saw you go on the 16th that's more than enough time to loose a few before you see them sweetie don't be worried

    Binge eating

I am so sorry While you aren't caught up in the whirlwind of emotion, it would be good to put a constructive outlet in place. Make a plan. Heavy physical work helps me (I have anger issues). Look for something that you can do for a couple hours that will leave you better than you started, and no longer having the need for self sabotage. Sitting and eating is a very passive activity that leaves you feeling worse than when you started. Something like going to the gym gives you an outlet that helps you feel better about yourself. (Look, I walked farther on the treadmill, or lifted 5 more pounds than last week). If the gym doesn't appeal, there are so many activities... arts, crafts, puzzles, reading, volunteering... [Hugs] You will find your way!

    The 3 Week Stall

I went 3 and a half weeks with no movement. Yes it is disheartening, but just know it will move. Mine stalled at 229. When it did start moving, it moved pretty fast. Five pounds a week. Just keep on what you are doing. Get your water in. It will move. There's no way for it not to if you are making the right choices.
  8. Thank you for taking time to share with me. I have thought about this planning aspect as well. I shall put this into action. I like to cook, but my husband is a meat eater (GALORE) and also does not eat leftover (CRAZY!!! Right?) So, I don't like to cook much. I can only eat the same thing for so long. Also I can only freeze so much stuff. I like your angle with salads!! This is surely something I can and want to do!!! I will make a weeks worth and this should surely aid in health and weight loss!!

    smoking

I feel your pain. I gave myself a week to completely quit, allowing myself to smoke one a day. After that week, I didn't smoke again. So, today makes it exactly 8 days since I've had a cigarette. Try the gum, it helped me a lot.

    Approved

I met with the endocrinologist at OSU (Dr. O'Donnel). He reviewed my blood glucose logs from the past month and said everything was in the normal range. He said after surgery I would likely be off the insulin and oral meds all together, which was good news. I then had another round of blood work. Today I received a message via MyChart. My A1C had dropped from 10.1 to 7.3. The fructosomine test (shows a more current reading than the A1C) hadn't came back from the lab yet but he said that it would be even lower. He said that he had passed on his approval to move ahead with surgery. I received a call from the case manager a short time latter. She said everything was good to go and she had passed on the information to my surgeon. She said I should be getting a call this week to schedule my Pre Admission testing and surgery date. I am definitely psyched that everything is finally going forward instead of two steps back!

    medifast...

thanks for your input folks! i was wondering if anyone has ever used one of these ads that offers two weeks free for medifast??? im super wary of clicking random ads, but it pops up a lot cuz apparently google ads has figured out that im fat.
  17. I received my letter today that I have been approved for surgery. Yeah...wooohooo! So I have 5 weeks from today for my pre-op diet and my surgery is scheduled for May 7th. Man this has been a ride I will never forget but I know that the future will be a even better ride
  18. I get sleeved on 9-20-2012. I get moments of anxiety where I question whether I've made the right decision or not. I know that I have. I guess I'm faced with this same anxiety when it comes to any big decision in my life. I start my liquid diet this Thursday the 6th for two weeks. Friday is Pre-Op. Friday the 14th is my EGD and then the 20th is D-Day! I went through a whole month of waiting for the appointments to get here and now they are here and the anxiety is sneaking in! I guess I'm excited AND scared at the same time . I am looking forward to being healthy. It's not a size or a look that is my goal. It is to be off medications and living healthy. I want to have the ability to go for a walk with my husband and not worry about passing out 1/2 way through the adventure. I want to go to the zoo without passing out or having to sit every 5 minutes because of back and knee pain. I want to fly without infringing upon my neighbor's space. It's been too long coming for me. Early on when I made my decision to get sleeved, I went out and purchased some protein powder and a few other things 'just to see' how horrific it was going to be. Honestly, it isn't going to be that bad for me. Since I HATE chocolate and sweets for the most part, it's going to be hard for that reason. I don't think the protein shakes are that horrible especially since I'll be using Vanilla flavored and you can add just about anything to that to make it palatable and versatile. My husband and grown sons are amazing with their support. Only one other person knows and he is a co-worker. The only reason I told him is because he's getting sleeved on 10-23-2012. We'll be sleeve partners at work. I'm lucky in that respect. The only thing that I worry about is when the pounds start dropping off that I don't sabotage myself. I see a bit of success and then I have to go and ruin it by overeating to celebrate. Crazy, I know. I can do this. I will succeed. This forum has really been a source of comfort and knowledge. I thank you all!

    Forgot!!!

Haaa you probably aren't the first to do that. I didn't have to do a liquid diet. Just low fat for one week. I lost 8 lbs that week.

    Plateau

I have gone past a stall into plateau territory. I have been bouncing between 180-185 for about 2 months. I have increased exercise and have been steadily tracking food. I think I am losing inches. It isn't that I am unhappy, I am only 25-30 lbs away from my weight loss goal, so I feel pretty good. I don't know if this is a plateau or if this is where I stop. I am about 7 months out. I have started running and feel good about that. I have a goal to complete a 5K in a few months. Anyone have any thoughts on distingusing a plaeau from just being done?

    Question about protein drinks

Every nutritionist is so different. Some are very strict and some not so much. I was on regular foods at 5 weeks out. I did one week Protein shakes after surgery. 4 weeks soft foods then week 5 I reintroduced regular foods slowly. I am sure they have their reasons, ask more questions?

    Question about protein drinks

My program just said 60gm protein a day, 64 ounce of fluids. The food stages were 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks, purees, 2 weeks soft foods, then regular food as tolerated. We could decide for ourselves if we wanted 3 meals, 3 meals, 2 snacks, or 3 meals and 1 snack. I was given jello, tea and non chunky soup in the hospital. I also didn't have a pre-op diet.

    Soft food diet.

I had my surgery back in late April, and last week I had my first plateau of weight loss too. This week, I've started losing again. It might have nothing to do with your change in diets; it might just be your body taking a quick break from losing weight. Keep following the diet given to you by your doctor and nutritionist, and you'll be losing weight again in no time.

    Pain...

I had that post-op, gasX strips helped a lot and I found I handled iced or warm tea better then water. It went away for me about 2 weeks post-op where I could drink without a need to burp or pain. For some reason plain water which I never had an issue with was a no go for me until just this last week (7weeks post op now).
