Attending school while losing
Kathleen_Dotson replied to Mama Spike's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm excited to be back at school next week. I am a college student. One of the things that I love about being a student is that college is pretty flexible, which allows me to manage my health and my education at the same time. However, after my VSG surgery, I am already seeing progress with my weight loss journey. Three days after my surgery, Being a college student has helped me to stay motivated and focused on my goals, even while managing my health. Furthermore, I find that being around younger students has been a positive experience for me. It keeps me motivated and inspired, and reminds me that it's never too late to pursue your dreams and make positive changes in your life. I believe that education is a lifelong pursuit and it's never too late to learn something new or achieve a new goal. Overall, my experience has shown me that education can provide a supportive and flexible environment for people to achieve their personal and professional goals. By being a college student, I have been able to manage my health and education simultaneously, and I have been inspired to continue pursuing my dreams regardless of age or circumstances. -
I had a mini gastric bypass surgery exactly 3 months back. Since there didn't seem much activity on specific forum for mini gastric bypass (as it isn't common in US), so I thought i would put it in regular bypass forum. Starting weight: 326 lbs Current weight (exactly 3 months post Op): 252 lbs making total weight loss of around 74 lbs. Diet: Currently taking 1000 (or maybe 1100 at times) calories. Protein rich diet with around 70 to 80g of daily protein and low carb. 3 meals and in-between I take protein shake, pure coconut water (around 500 ml a day) and sometimes raw Tofu once or twice in day if I feel hungry. I use weighing scale to make sure I know how much I eat. Workout: 4 to 5 miles of walk daily. Gym of 7 to 8 hours total every week. Main focus on HIIT and weights, and includes 2.5 hour of cardio. I have felt since I started gym, my body feels more leaner and in shape but appetite has slightly gone up. Like maybe 3 extra tablespoon of Quinoa. But what do you guys think of my progress? Any red flags or caution? As now is the time to correct things if something is wrong. Do you think a weight of 180 lbs is something achievable for me? Thanks a lot.

yep - it's the infamous three week stall! This question comes up almost every day. If you're interested in reading more about it, here are the 17,501 posts on it (and nope - I'm not kidding...): https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall

Welcome to the three week stall. Almost everyone goes through this & you’re not doing anything wrong. The first stall, yes the first, usually starts in week 3 hence the name but it can occur before or after that time too. They usually last 1-3 weeks. Frustrating but very much part of weight loss. Stalls are your body taking stock of your weight loss & reacting to the stress of the changes you’re making. The first is often in response to the surgery, reduced calories, etc.. Your body uses this time to reset your metabolism, hunger hormones, etc. & is a necessary part of your weight loss. Your weight loss will never be a consistently straight line in a downwards direction. It will waver up & down. At times is won’t move, move slowly or move quickly. Though the scale isn’t moving some people notice their body measurements still reduce. Stick to your plan. Don’t stress your body more than your plan advises. Your weight loss will start again when your body is ready.

April 2023 surgery dates?
Annabelle1631 replied to Nepenthe44's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
April 13th - started the LCD on March 30th. My program is really strict with only milk which I’m struggling with - other than have some broth. I have never been a milk drinker so 2 weeks of only that is rough. -
I had gastric bypass March 7th and I’ve lost 17lbs first 2 weeks. I haven’t had any weightloss for 2 weeks now. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong? Any one else went through this?

3 Days is still fresh wounds, you're going to feel rough after major surgery like this. It took a good two weeks for my bypass + hernia repair to feel comfortable again. You have to be patient and give your body the rest it needs to repair itself.

My best guess is that it's mostly water loss as@catwoman7 mentioned. Some on pre-op diets lose a lot of water weight (mainly low carb diets do that) so maybe that is what you are experiencing. You may enter a stall soon since it sounds like your body is adjusting. Please make sure you stay hydrated and contact your surgeon if you experience other symptoms. -
Any April Surgery Dates?

I’m new to this group. I started the process of going for clearance from pcp and cardio, blood work and chest X-ray next week. Then I’m getting an endoscopy and then see the surgeon on April 20. I guess that’s when I will get my surgery date and start my pre-op diet. I can’t wait. -
Your body has just been through major trauma & is still healing & adjusting to your new normal! It’s gonna take a couple of weeks. Listen to your body & don’t do too much too soon!

Thinking I might losing weight to fast
catwoman7 replied to Catina B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that's pretty fast - although did you lose weight before surgery and/or did you have to do one of those two-week liquid-only diets before surgery? If not, a chunk of that weight you lost right after surgery could have been water. -

APRIL 5th for me, been on the phase two diet for three weeks and today I just started the day liquids only. -
Reached a scale and non-scale achievement. For the scale, I made it into onderland a couple days ago. This was big because it means, at where I live, I can go horseback riding with my son. Planning to take him during spring break this week! These kind of achievements are why I had the surgery, to be healthy and active with my kids!

November Surgery Buddies!!!
ForMyOhana replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This week was Spring Break. It was also the 1/2 way point in my 90 day challenge. We had a short vacation planned and so I decided it was a good time to just take a few days off. I took from Saturday - Wednesday off... so 5 days and picked back up on Thursday. So there is a slight bump up this week, but it was probably a perfect week to take a break. Back onward and downward this week! -

Almost there! 9 kg to reach my goal weight
omrhsn posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've not lost any significant weight over the past two months or so. The scale barely moved down from 83 kg but I noticed some changes on my measurements. The clothes that I bought three months ago are loose now but not to the point that I have to buy new ones. I didn't weigh myself for almost 10 days and you can imagine my excitement when I saw the number on the scale I can't remember the last time I was below 80 kg. Maybe in my early teens. I'm now 9 kg away from my target and I can't wait to shed those. Fasting certainly helped break the stall for me. I hope to lose 5 kg more in the remaining 20 days of the fasting month. -
It's very normal to have feelings of regret early on. The first few weeks after surgery are the hardest because you're still recovering from major surgery, adjusting to your new stomach, very limited in what you can eat, and you haven't seen the benefits of the weight loss yet. For most people, things just get better from there. You will soon get to start reintroducing "normal" food and you will lose more weight than you ever thought possible. There were many times at the beginning that I wondered, "Why did I do this to myself?!" but now I'm almost 3 years out and that rough early post-op period is barely a blip in my memory. Have faith and give it time, and chances are good that you, like most people, will only eventually only regret that you didn't have surgery earlier. By the way, stalls are very normal. It's just your body re-adjusting. Keep going with your plan and the weight loss will resume.
