I was banded on 2/13. What I thought was restriction after the surgery was just swelling. After that went down in about one week, I could eat to the same proportions as before banding. I went to the doc at 3 weeks and they said they would give me my first fill. I could still eat a car if I wanted to!! Well, today they had me go for an upper gi then come to their office. They said that everything looked great. That first fill was 3cc's in my 10cc band. My doc is pretty agressive so she gave me another 3cc's for my second fill. I couldn't get the Water down so she took out 1cc leaving me with a total of 5cc. She said to have just liquids/mushies today and tomorrow then I can go back to solid food. Well, for dinner I had broccoli/cheese Soup to go from Applebees and was still starving (only had a yoghurt today since I couldn't eat for the upper gi) so I then had some cottage cheese, then I mashed up an avocado and ate that. To me, that STILL seems more than I should be able to eat after a fill. I keep hearing about how we're supposed to eat about 1/2 cup food per meal and I ate more than that after my fill. I'm thinking maybe 1/2 cc more. Anyway, so my first fill was at 3 weeks, and this, my second, was at 5 weeks. They said I can come back when I want for another fill if I'm not restricted. I originally had lost 13 pounds afer surgery and now that loss is only at 5 pounds so I seem to be gaining! Yikes! If I could have done this w/out the band I would have, but I need restriction. And no, it's not head hunger. I'm certain of that. I really tune in and see where I'm at. Should I get another fill? Marie

Hey there! My surgery is 4 weeks away. I am wondering what I should go ahead and purchase ahead of time. Or what I should stock up on. I know the obvious protein drinks and vitamins but wanted to see if there is anything else that y'all know of so I can be as prepared as possible. Thank you!

Good morning. If you have already had surgery, was there anything you did ahead of time (like during the 6 month weigh ins) to prepare yourself for the surgery? Or, is there something that you wish you had did that you think would have made things easier for you? I ask this because i am wondering, would it be good as I get closer to only have 1 meal per day and drink shakes the other 2 meals to make it easier for the 2 week pre-op liquid diet?

I just don't know what to do... My first day of the two-week liquid diet is on Thursday, and my husband has planned for us to meet three other couples at the KC Royals game far tailgating and the baseball game. I'm just not sure how I will feel that first day! I might be just fine...I might be a hungry psychopath...I just don't know! I'm just nervous about being put in a situation on my very first day where I'll want to eat. The good thing is I can bring in unopened bottles of Water, so I can bring my crystal light flavoring and possibly a Protein shake. Ugh...should I go?

I have read lots of topics about hair loss but not much on hair regrowth. I had thin hair but a lot of it but now I would think I have lost about 50% of it. My question is which month did people start seeing good regrowth?? I will be 6 mths post op next week

Ditto here, I am on day 10 and felt nausious during the first week but it has passed . I also felt dizzy a lot but the Dr said to not do as much physical stuff as I was doing (slow down LOL) I heat with firewood & its wood season so stackin up 10-15 cords was a little much apparently. You will get through the tummy upset, just keep your eyes on the prize !

Heartfelt congratulations! Did you lose all 50 lbs in 9 weeks? Can you share what you are eating and what type of exercise you are doing? You look great!

My NUT told me that a lot of his patients that have kept the weight off long term did weight watchers about 2/3rds of the way to goal. He said he thought it was helpful because of the meetings, teaming up with friends and the weigh in's each week. The plan itself...the "meals" are still going to be too much for us. Our food choices will just be different than everyone else's because we need to eat really small meals and high Protein. I know the program too. Did it several times...very successful once, a long time ago. I just don't think I am to the point where I want to pay a weekly fee. I'm still paying for the surgery.....and will for another 2 yrs, more than likely. And I pay Planet Fitness each month too. A lot of my "me" money is already going out the door for this. But.....if I ever get to the point where I feel I'm getting off track, I will definitely revisit WW's. Also, I am at a weird point. Lots of stalls. Its discouraging. I am still well within the guidelines of the diet but I have noticed that I tend to eat a little more carbs than I did in the beginning. So....that's going to stop. I have gained 1lb since starting weight training last week (have only been doing cardio up till now) I'm hoping the weight training will help with this stall, lose, stall, lose cycle I've been in. Maybe after I put on a little muscle I can dip back into the carbs??

Ahhhhhh! 4 protein shakes and 1 meal a day FOR 2 WEEKS!
newlife281013 replied to Jls93001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With lots of determination, it's really hard but this journey is not an easy quick fix. Take comfort in the fact that thousands of us have done it and come through the other side. There will be tears and frustration but every time you see the scale move backward and the pants that were too tight are now too loose you give yourself a little boost. Everyone goes through the different stages and we are all here to help. Every stage is different and has its adjustments. Keep reminding yourself why your here and that every day/week is a new one. Don't get bogged down in what you haven't done, but what you have. Try and stay away from temptation as much as possible and believe in YOU. -

SV SV SV! Pre-Pregnancy Weight!
WL WARRIOR replied to mnmlst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 65 pounds during my first (and only because of extreme complications) pregnancy and had a 4 1/2 pound baby. And he was born two months early. If I didn't gain so much weight he would have been smaller and may not have made it. That was 10 years ago. My goal weight (150) is my pre-pregnancy weight. I've got a long way to go. It is doable, I just have to be patient. I do fit into clothes from three years ago, so I guess that's something to be happy about. -

Pain beneath incision
roundisashape replied to Justoperated's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't cleared to do anything abdominal until I was cleared to do weights at the 6 week mark, but for about the first 3-4 weeks I had pain in a similar spot. Freaked me out a bit, until the surgeon explained that they come in at an angle and the "inside hole" wasn't in the same place as the "outside hole". Still worth calling the doc and seeing what they say, just in case something weird is going on! Good luck to you -

I have Anthem BCBS and was approved in a week. I only lost 2 lbs from first visit to approval. As long as you're over 35 BMI you should be fine. But, they will want to see losses from the pre-op diet most likely. Like @@Elode said, each one is different though.

I am 17 days post op and gained 2lbs today. My starting weight was 269. I was 259 when I came home from the hospital. I was losing pretty well, yesterday I was 242.5 and today I went back up to 244. I was and am devastated. I am still on the 4 weeks of liquids post op. The only thing that I have added is grits.

Too much weight loss before surgery on pre-op diet?
itscometothis replied to Brittanysiemens's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had Kelly.. my bmi was 33 when I scheduled surgery and I was told that I only had to follow a plan three days prior to surgery. I don't see why you would need to be on a preop for two weeks. I contacted Dr. Aceves when I was researching surgeons and I was told I didn't need to do any preop at all due to a lower bmi. I ended up going to Kelly, but the point is, with a lower bmi the preop wasn't really required. Maybe look into it -
Hi all!! So I will be a yr out on jan 24th 2012. It has been a crazy, happy, sad, exhausting, mind blowing yr! I've made mistakes, went a little too crazy, but came back and I love my freaking sleeve. I started this journey at 304 at a size tight 24. As of today I am 158 and a size 7-10 depending on the clothrd and m/l shirt. I only have 8 lbs til I am a healthy bmi and 18 lbs til goal (which I might even lower!!) I am still losing about a lb a week with some stalls. This is amazing to me! I don't ever remember being this small. I still have a lot of toning to do and am planning on getting ps. I don't think of myself as small or beautiful but I've noticed the way people treat me. Guys check me out! And not the ones I usually had. You know what I'm saying? When ur big u settle. I'm talking hottt guys that those skinny perfect b*****s get!! And its surreal. Women give me dirty looks. This one pisses me off. But they are nicer to my face. When I was obese thin women were for the most part very rude. I still can't wrap my mind around it. I see pics of thr old me and I can't believe it. I have so much more confidence now and it shows!! My sister who I love dearly but can be quite mean is jealous!! She used to be very thin bodering on an eating disorder. A couple months ago she let me go through some clothes that she had. There was a box thst didn't fit her anymore she was saving. She let me borrow some and they fit!! She was irrate!! She didn't think I was smaller than her!! Now they are a little too baggy (not the shirts yet becaise my arms and tummy are still a little too big. She used to make fun of me and call me fat and now I weigh less!! I shouldn't be happy about this but I feel likes its karma. I never go out of my way to make her feel bad and now when we talk about weight she gets mad and says ur not big its just extra skin. If u didn't have that ud be skinny. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hmmmm. I'm close to goal like you (either 9 pounds or 7 pounds away depending on the day) So yeah, I'm bouncing around too. But I have managed to lose a few pounds this month. Not a lot, but something, lol. It just gets harder the closer we get. What kind of exercise are you doing? I do 30-40 minutes of cardio 4 days a week and a little weights after. As you can see, I'm focusing more on cardio right now to finish off this last remaining weight. I'll worry about weight training when I get to maintenance. I have also decided to add a few carbs from bread and stuff just to change things up a little.

I am 10 lbs from goal and I've been in a stall for the past almost 3 weeks. I've been bouncing around 170-172. 160 is my goal. I'm almost 10 months out. I log everything and get 100 grams of protein a day. I only eat good carbs and I watch everything. Now I do work out 4 times a week and my workouts are getting more intense. I do find I eat more now but it's all good stuff that I'm eating. What gives? Could I be done losing? I'm starting to freak out a little.

21 And 27 Lb Loss From Two December Bandsters!
Imagettnthin replied to mdlapband's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations! I was banded December 9. My first follow up visit was a week ago & I am down 25 pounds! My pants are already loose! My first fill will be Jan 16 -- a little scared, but I know that everything will go well. I started soft foods now. Let me tell you that scrambled egg I made (using Egg Beaters) was the best thing in the world! My son & I even took a 30 minute walk today -- which made me tired, but also gave me confidence that I can do it! I have a long way to go, but it truly is "one day at a time". Best of luck on you journey! -
Everything has gone great since my surgery. I have had head aches, but those seem to be getting better. All in all, I think it's all gone well. I am on a regular diet with no restrictions. My concern - I still have a lot of pain in my stomach area. At five weeks is this normal?
-
My doc only flouroscopes if he is having difficulty or there is an emergency for that very reason. I have to agree with him. I've had two and he hit it right on both times. He also only gives fills if you stop losing and are eating to much. If you continue to lose 1 -2 pounds a week on one fill....then that's all you get. It would be a waste of time and money to do one you don't need. If the band is working, why "fix" it? It's not unheard of, but it's rare.

Going back to horse riding
