YOUR favorite protein recipes and YOUR favorite sugar free drinks?
ms.sss replied to Erin18's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I basically lived on these for the first 3-4 months: - 1 scoop Isopure Low Carb Dutch Chocolate Protein Powder - 1 tsp decaf instant coffee crystals - 2 tsp Benefibre - 1 cup of ice - fill up with water to make 500ml Blend and Enjoy! 25g protein, yummy and helps to keep u regular! Now i don’t like sweet drinks and the Dutch Chocolate flavour was the least sweet of all the protein powders i tried. So if you prefer sweet, this may not be for you. I also liked (and still do) to drink carbonated water (i.e., Perrier or similar) with a squeeze of lemon. But again if, like me, you like non-sweet drinks. -
I am 6 months post op and still need a shake to hit my protein. I come up just short without it after trying a few times. I have to eat so many times I feel like I just eat and drink constantly and it is annoying. So for now I just do a shake for breakfast, which I don't mind because I have never been a breakfast person anyway. I have my regulars but still randomly try different ones, tried these because there were a bit cheaper. HARD NO for me. haha I tried to chocolate. I do agree though, everyone has their preference with all the protein substitutes (shakes, bars, snacks, etc.) I guess, really anything and everything.

I haven’t had a protein shake in ages (I’m 2 years post-op and get plenty of protein from solid food now), but I recall liking the caramel flavor of Equate brand shakes. It’s definitely a matter of personal taste, though!

Walmart "Equate" brand protein shakes are about the most disgusting thing ever! That is all.....

I'm a bit lost : PCOS, losing slowly...
seyma replied to seyma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, thank you all for your interest ! My doctor is not very available, I regret sooo much to had it done by him. I'm at an average of 1200-1300cal a day. Is it too much ? Since the second month I was able to eat more that my fellow surgery buddies who got it at the same time as me but again, we think the doctor did my gastric sleeve a bit larger since I only had 70lbs to loose. Go to work by walk, but that's it. I'm aware that I should exercise more. I eat regarding to my pcos and hormonal imbalances. Cutting calories does not work for me, I have insulin resistance. Metformin does not work for me either (stomach pain), I use ovasitol now. As I said, rarely eat between meals, even if I do it's mostly protein. I've got an appointment the next month, will see with the nutritionist. The weird thing is, I've lost like 15 pounds the first month, then nothing for 3 months, then 8 lbs again a month, then nothing for 2 months again and on until a loss of 33lbs. Only lost 2 pounds last months. Very irregular. I hope to see a change until the end of this year. I don't put a lot of pressure because I know I've got insulin resistance and a lower bmi and I was aware that it would be slower than others, but it's hard as you may all know. Thank you again -
Gastric Bypass weird phenomenon and more
toodlerue replied to Baby_mae00's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You have been dumping this whole time! Every time you have to lay down after you eat it is because you are dumping. Have you tried eating high protein, veggies & fruit (natural sugar)? I would stick with a bariatric eating protocol instead of filling your body with sugar & crap. -
THE WEIRDEST STUFF HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ME AFTER I GOT MY BYPASS OCTOBER 2021 So when I was fresh out of surgery I had a really hard time when I started being able to eat solids, everything I ate made me sick, or I’d feel like something was stuck and just generally uncomfortable and so I had stopped eating because it became unbearable to be sick after every meal, it led to me being hospitalized a week or two for dehydration the doctor told me my body was eating itself (muscle/fat) anything it could to keep me alive and my blood sugar would stay critically low despite them putting sugar in my IV this happened twice (I was admitted on two separate occasions) they did all the tests but nothing was abnormal and they couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t eat, but my surgeon was getting worried/upset and he said if I was admitted again I’d be put on a feeding tube he said and I quote “eat anything I don’t care what it is, just eat” he also said it would probably be uncomfortable for awhile but still force yourself. So after that I went home and would just eat whatever I could whether that be bad food or good food and it did hurt a lot and I’d get so sick I’d get hot and feel like I’d faint and so to combat it I’d just lay down in front of a fan and bear the pain which lasted about 30mins after EVERY meal I’d also go into a mini food coma after every meal and it was a big inconvenience because no matter where I was after I ate I’d have to lay down and I’d be drawn into a food coma for who knows how long. Time skip to now, I’m doing better I don’t have a problem eating but when I eat too much I do have to lay down but the thing is… I can eat way more then I should like maybe two cups full of whatever food, although when it comes to certain meats I can only eat a little and I’ll feel pretty sick afterwards, but shrimp for example I can eat a lot of. I don’t have any problems eating sweets ( which I’m beyond great full for I feel more normal now even though I can eat only a little I feel like I got a bit of my life back I had felt so depressed because food was my outlet and not being able to enjoy food any type of food had really became hard for me) and I actually eat them on a daily basis although I can only have a small amount (or it depends what sweets it is) without getting sick, I seem to be able to eat alot of popcorn. I only experienced dumping syndrome once in my life after I had some tea with honey a few days out of surgery, but after that I never had it again. I gained this really weird symptom where every time I stand up from a sitting position I faint or feel very dizzy where everything goes black and I fall down without losing consciousness, it only last a few seconds and then I’m fine but I’ve hurt myself a few times because of it. I also feel hunger, I’ve felt hunger even right out of surgery but now I’m always hungry 2 hours after eating but I don’t get stomach rumbles I get this heartburn feeling that’s persistent until I eat it’s my way of knowing when to eat. I have a big problem with standing still in one spot for even 10 minutes It makes me feel sick like I’ll throw up or something I get hot and dizzy but I’m just fine walking for hours just the moment I stand still I get nauseous. I find it harder to drink water without a straw, and I find it easier to eat laying down than sitting up and I think that’s really weird, but despite eating anything I want I still lose weight and I don’t really feel the need to anymore I’m at a good area. One last thing that’s pretty recent…. I sleep eat. I don’t know when it happened maybe a month or two ago but every night now I’ll wake 3 or 4 times and munch a little on whatever is nearby, I’ve eaten 3 full boxes of cheese-its over the course of 5 days (which didn’t sit well with me in the long run) I’ve eaten cookies, I’ve eaten cheese, I’ve eaten candy, I’ve even eaten a whole sandwich and sometimes I have no recollection of it but I’ll see the wrapper or evidence near me on the floor. I don’t know how to stop this habit it’s really getting out of hand so now I just place healthy options near me before bed so I won’t gain weight because I did gain a few pounds recently. Well, these are just my experiences and this all started after my surgery although I don’t know for sure if it’s surgery related. Please feel free to comment below if you’ve experienced anything similar I’d love to hear it! I’m managing just fine I’ve found a system to deal with my inconveniences (since it’s just more annoying and I feel I can deal with it) but if I can find a way to rid myself of it then I’d feel more normal!! P.s. does anyone know how to tighten minor loose skin?? My skin isn’t very loose but in some areas like my lower stomach and thighs it’s not as tight, I lost the majority of my weight when I was the hospital which is less than ideal but even still the skin is only slightly loose. I’ve heard working out can help (and I have little to no muscle right now I lost it during the hospital phase) so I’m working on that but if anyone has any other type of remedies I’d LOVE to try it! Thanks again <3

YOUR favorite protein recipes and YOUR favorite sugar free drinks?
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just bought the sugar free lemonade today because of a youtube video I saw haha. She added a packet of kool-aid to change the normal lemonade flavor. Plus she had surgery too and it's actually pretty good. I love lemonade too. I find it so hard to drink water. I never go for water and thats not good at all. How am I going to make it. I am going to start pushing myself tho because it is really important for many reasons. I made a really great tasting protein shake last night. It tasted just like ice cream. I got the idea from another tik toker and I tweaked it. 1 scoop gnc lean shake chocolate protein powder 4.5 oz water 4.5oz brewed coffee. I Made dunkin's caramel coffee cake flavored ground coffee Squirt of honey Capful of vanilla Blend Tall cup of ice Blend again Drizzle sides of glass with sugar free caramel syrup and sugar free chocolate syrup Top with serving of sugar free whipped cream Sooooooooo good! -
At this point, at least according to my dietitian, any non-carbonated liquid counts toward your goal. So if you can get clear protein drinks in, coffee, tea, Gatorade, etc. that should all count and maybe make it easier for you to hit your goal

How did you go after your surgery?
Sbtaylor1114 replied to carolmlqb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery on Sep 13th not much pain, but I'm having a problem drinking these protein shakes, they are gagging me. And I'm experiencing a lot of lightheadedness when I stand up. Thursday I can start on soft food hoping I can get all of my protein through food sources. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm 4 1/2 months out and can eat most things, and in bigger portions than I would like. I have to make myself limit what I eat. I never lost the hunger hormone, so I can eat more often, and in larger volume, than a lot of people on here. That being said....you should be able to eat fairly normally (albeit in smaller amounts) by now. You're further along than I am, so you really need to talk to your surgeon to find out why you can't eat. In the meantime, look into Fairlife and Premier protein shakes. Have 3 per day plus your 2 or 3 spoonful's of food every day until you can see your doctor.

Anyone else do a VSG to ESG?
Hop_Scotch replied to teedsg's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I haven't had a revision to ESG but did have an original ESG (I now have a VSG). My personal opinon: I would think a bypass would have better longevity and outcome. https://bmiclinic.com.au/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-faq/ ESG following gastric sleeve: Endoscopic revision of a gastric sleeve is possible, however the weight loss that results is only approximately 10% of the baseline weight. There are likely more effective options which you can talk through with your Bariatric Specialist. -
Why not try to add protein powder to your smoothies?

@mrs.solis I’ve been alright. The burping is a real frustration and I find I’m still getting queasy/nauseated when I try to drink my protein drinks so that’s making it very hard to get all my protein in each day. Most days I’m only able to get about 30g. 😬 staying hydrated is also a challenge but that’s easier than the protein. I just bought some clear protein powder so hopefully that will help. Lack of nutrients is definitely making me tired. My 2 week post op visit with the surgeon will be this week and I’ll be curious to see what he says about the nausea. I’m taking Pepcid AC twice a day and it helps a little. The incision pain on the left side where the stomach was removed is still very painful/burning/stinging. It’s reminiscent of c-section pain so I know it will get better but it stops me in my tracks when I move wrong. -
Hello. I didn't have a problem with fluids, hit and maintained my goal pretty quickly. But, I could NOT tolerate ANY of the chewable or liquid vitamins. I tried tons before surgery and tons after they are all horribly disgusting. It wasn't even like it was the vitamin itself my stomach wasn't handling it was the taste and texture. UHG! I discussed it with my team even before surgery and multiple times after surgery. They were not that "concerned" about it at the first couple of weeks. They just wanted me to focus on water and protein. At my 2 week follow up I discussed it again and my surgeon cleared me to swallow pills and capsules as long as I could handle them. LUCKILY I could and have been on capsules every since without any issues. Point: Discuss it with your team so they can work with you and provide insight and maybe get you an earlier clearance like they did me.

YOUR favorite protein recipes and YOUR favorite sugar free drinks?
kcuster83 replied to Erin18's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I LOVEEEE lemonade! Minute maid makes a zero sugar lemonade and it is great. Doesn't have that artificial sweetener taste. I drink TONS of water, always have and love to. But every once in a while I just need a kick of flavor and them lemonades do it every time. The crystal light packets or other brand flavor packets are too "intense" for me. That is the best was I can explain it. I have to almost double the water to be able to tolerate them so I stopped using them. As far as shake recipes, I can't help. I have read a lot and keep saying I want to start making my own shakes but never do. The pre-made are just so convenient, plus you just can't recreate 30g protein for 150/160 calories. So, I just keep going back to the pre-made shakes and switch around the brands and/or flavors when I get bored. Sometimes I take caramel shakes and add black coffee with ice so I feel like I am having a "cheat" sugary iced coffee. I have taken vanilla powder and added powdered protein to it too, but that is about the extent of my "homemade" shakes. -
Hi everyone, I'm kinda new in here, don't know how it works but I need to share my experience because I don't know where I stand I've done the gastric sleeve at the begining of January with a starting weight of 219 lbs (99,5 kg). I'ts been 8 months since, and I'm now at 187 lbs (85kg). Am I paranoid or is it very very slow ? Only lost 33 lbs (15kg) I've got PCOS and I'm aware that having hormonal imbalances may affect my weight loss and my starting weight was maybe low compared to someone else but I am starting to feel worried about the surgery. Maybe it did not work out well for me ? Is it normal ? My doctor said I should be at 149 at the end. Is anyone else is in my situation or know someone in my condition ? I eat well, eat my veggies and protein first and I don't have a sweet tooth anymore (rarely rarely eat between meals). I know that my carb intake is still important but I mean I don't eat THAT much. I always eat it at the end of the meal, knowing that I can never finish my plate. Good water intake too. Thank you for any testimony and reassurance

Have you spoken to your surgeon? By now you should be able to eat a lot more than a couple of spoonfuls & a wide variety of foods & not feeling nauseous or throwing up (unless you eat something too dry, too coarse or eat too much or too fast of course). Personally I never had another shake after the liquid stage though I did find a good high protein yoghurt to boost my protein each day. I wasn’t hungry or interested in eating either for more than a year (wish I was still like that now though 😁). I used to eat to a schedule to ensure I got my protein & nutrients in every day (still do actually most days). Should stress that I didn’t worry too much if I didn’t eat all my portion if I didn’t want it. Even now, on days I’m not overly hungry, I’ll eat a lighter meal like a tub of yoghurt for lunch & not a heavier meat based dish. Are you doing any activity to compensate for muscle loss? I’m not an exercise/gym person but do use resistance bands & do stretches every day. The bands are great for toning muscles without adding bulk.

I am 5 months post op gastric sleeve and I don't want to eat I don't get hungry I find myself forcing myself to eat. I don't even like food only smoothies or protein shakes. I'm so afraid of not getting enough protein. I can only eat 3 spoon fulls and I'm done I feel like I'm going to throw up after the fourth spoon full. I had surgery March 22 and I lost 55 pounds I'm happy with that but I'm losing muscle do anyone experience this what should I do?

Nervous on vacation!!!! Help!!!
MyDogsLoveMe replied to MommaJo1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If thr portions are large, ask if someone will share with you. Maybe you eat some of their protein/veggies and you buy them desert. Maybe there is a kids meal that you can order or appetizer. My husband likes to eat out, so I have been watching what I eat (my surgery is Oct 11th) and giving him more than half of my food or taking it home. I order steamed veggies as a side or a salad. I'm sure things will change after surgery. Sent from my SM-A505U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
10 day post opt gastric bypass
ShoppGirl replied to Mrs.Solis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe try the clear protein drinks. If it’s the milk In the shake you should be fine with those. Take it slow though in case it’s the sweetener. If so there are several that are used and you may only have an issue with a certain one. -

Sept 8th I had my Gastric Bypass done … 10 days post opt and working towards getting better every day . I have my first apt with the surgeon tomorrow so I’m hoping to get some answers to questions I have . Like vitamins and trying to get my protein and fluids in . -
10 day post opt and have to say lots of questions still although I know it's Normal. Def having issues with being able to get all my fluids in because I feel so full and then my stomach hurts .. I know that when I tried the primer protein shakes I got sick immediately and I believe it was the milk .. which I never had a problem with before .. but now slowly introducing like almond milk and taking it slow .. but I'll admit I'm scared of food .

Almost through my 4th week post op…. 3 weeks with no real weight movement. I know I’m a bit dehydrated - I’m assuming that’s why I have crushing fatigue. But not enough so that fluids are warranted apparently I’ve worked on increasing my calories and protein. It’s hit or miss but I am getting a decent amount, but my weight isn’t moving at all. When I say the fatigue is crushing - I mean any exertion of effort wipes me out. I see my pcp tomorrow - but I’m not sure he will have any suggestions the surgeon and nutritionist haven’t already offered. I am measuring and weighing every bite and I am only eating what I’m suppose to. I don’t feel well enough to exercise so I don’t imagine I will have much progress until that happens. I feel stuck/trapped right now. I know it will pass… I’m sure things will get better. It’s just really hard when I can’t even stand at the sink to wash dishes. My family is being very supportive and helping (kids and husband) but that almost makes me feel worse. They are doing things I should be. I just want to feel better. I’m trying to focus on the positives, I’ve lost weight, my body’s changing, my clothes are getting bigger…. I’m wearing things I couldn’t before. My Kees still hurt, but less. My liver is improving. My health is going in the right direction. Tuesday is 5 weeks. I don’t regret the surgery at all, I’m just disappointed in me and my lack of progress to this point. Sorry I just needed to vent my frustration. Thanks so much for listening.
