  1. Unfortunately I've also read alot of the same, people being approved for removal but not for revision to sleeve or bypass. But as i also have read you can't give up, if you are denied it sounds like you have a very supportive surgeons office who will be able to help you appeal and possibly even do a peer to peer review. Stay positive though, you never know, they could call you with an approval!
  2. I am going to be getting a port revision in the next 2 weeks or so, because of a leak my Dr. found on May 27th. I am pretty discouraged as I have gained almost 20 lbs over the course of 2 months. I am hoping to use this poll to help me see what might happen after revision surgery. Any stories or advice is welcome!
  3. Any one experience pain in esophagus after band to sleeve revision? I thought it was acid reflux, but now I'm not sure. (11 days post op) Also having pain chest in left side at times? Any suggestions?
  4. ive been reading about people having revisions and im wondering if i need it as well,i had sleeve surgery on 11-29-12 and as of today 82lbs is my total weight loss and its been that way for the last 6mos.it seems like i gain and lose the same 5 to 10lbs since may 2013 i started another exercise program a month ago and still nothing and the biggest thing is i can eat alot more than before for instance i can eat a whole low carb breakfast bowl from hardees with no problem.or a whole grilled chicken burrito(see picture) is that normal?but one bad habit i have developed is drinking after i eat other than that i dont know what to do.Is it possible for your stomach to stretch?i was even thinking about trying to get an xray of my stomach to see if my sleeve was done right unfortunately i dont have a regular doctor because of ins.i had my surgery in tj mexico becaues of lack of insurance and was wondering if they used the right bogee, just looking for answer and hope that im still on the right track any and all help will be appreciated

    Any June Sleevers?

Me too. Banded 2005. Removed 2011. Sched for VSG 6/27. Hope all of us revisions do great this time around!
  6. Here's the link to my testimony after my surgery. Please read it. If you have any more questions let me. I'm down 64lbs total since my revision. My weight loss is much better than when I first got my sleeve in 2010. I plan on giving a detailed update next week around my 5month post op.
  7. My highest recorded weight was 270lbs(morning of my lapband surgery), standing 5'2" short. The day of my revision from band to VSG, I weighed in at 263lbs. My BMI was just shy of 50 when I revised from the band. I did not work out at all for the first 4 months. At 4 months post-op, I started strength training 3-4 days a week, and doing cardio with a primary focus on my ab/core area one day per week via Hip Hop Abs. That only lasted 4 months and then I had gallbladder surgery with an exploratory surgery of my abdominal cavity because I was having random pain. My surgeon removed hoards of scar tissue and adhesions from my liver to colon. I was on restricted activity for 8 long weeks, and since I hate working out, I never got back into exercising formally. I was one of the skinniest, unfit chicks you'd meet. Now after pregnancy weight gain, losing all but 10 pounds of the weight, and now pregnant again, I'm not even attempting to diet/exercise. Unfortunately, my body has been through hell and back in less than 3 years. I have a least another year before I'll be able to get back to where I was before pregnancy. Working out not only helps with weight loss, but it helps with overall heart, mind and bone health.
  8. I'm wondering if anyone has had any denials through Molina or Medicaid insurances for REVISION surgery???? If so please let me know the outcome of it??? I am waiting for my approval and I am apprehensive about this!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday Season!!! As this year winds up and a new year is set to unfold, lets take some time to reflect on what we have accomplished in the past year as well as what goals we set for ourselves. Did we reach those goals? If not....lets ask ourselves where we are in relation to those goals. Did we get close...or did we fail to make a start? Did we give up? Do we need to revise the goal to make it more attainable for us? Lets begin to think about and write down some of our goals for the new year. Not just in weight loss, but in all area's of our lives. Health, well being, financial independence, work, family, schooling. Perhaps this year we might start something new, perhaps make a commitment to keeping a journal, taking scuba or sky diving lessons, practicing and participating in a race.... What are some of your goals, and what are you looking forward to in this new year? Liz and I are discussing putting a meeting together on January 10th. The date is tentative at this point, but keep following the thread and we will have more information to you soon! Happy Holidays!!! Be safe, happy and healthy wherever you find yourself as you ring in the New Year!

    Fighting the band

Hi, I've been banded for one year now. I am fighting the band. I can still eat more than my surgeon says I should BUT I have a hard time getting down meat no matter how much I chew. I am TIRED of getting stuck and throwing up. Also, because of the stress from all of this, I've fallen off the diet wagon. What do I do? I'm considering having a revision to gastric bypass, but I don't know if that will help. I'm feeling like I'm a failure.
  11. June 22 for me! I was supposed to have a band put in May 26, but they couldn't because of a huge hiatal hernia. So sleeve it will be, and after doing research, I'm pretty happy with with my alternative. People on the board who have had revisions of the band to the sleeve sound very happy with the sleeve, as do the people who have only had the sleeve. I'm grateful the sleeve is covered by my insurance!
  12. I am going this Thursday to see if I qualify for a revision. I lost about 47lbs total and have been filled and unfilled twice once for dehydration and the other for reflux. I have now gained back almost all the weight but I have been unfilled this time since November 08.
  13. I am have revision on May 20th. only lost maybe 30 lbs in two years with the band. follow therules and then started having problems with my band and the Dr wanted it out. The INS would only cover removal if I decided to do the RNY. at first I was unsure but after researching I am at the point I wish I would have had it in the first place...Still nervous but ready!
  14. It was nice to read all the posts here. I was told last week that I may need to revise to RNY. The Doc and I have documented issues since we started filling the band. I have a 4cc band with only 2.2cc's in it. I am starving but I can't eat solid Protein without extreme pain. On top of it all I need my gall bladder out because I am having gall bladder attacks. With the band I have lost 115lbs but have gained back about 25lbs since because I am so afraid of the pain I get from eating I have reverted to eating things that are not good for me...I know that is bad but I so afraid to eat. I do try everyday though. My surgeon has scheduled me for an Upper GI to see what is going on with the band and then he and I need to sit down for the next course of action. He has suggested that I revise to RNY possibly or that we may need to go in and reposition the band. I am leaning towards RNY because I am so tired of being in pain when I eat. However, I am really thinking/researching RNY because I need to the know the risks involved to make a educated decision. I wish I could find some data on how successful the Band to RNY revision is. Any thoughts? Cindy
  15. Can someone tell me a sucess story? I am two years out from the Band... I get stuck.. I have a difficult time eating.. but I have only lost 25 pounds. I am very discouraged to the point of not trying anymore. I was watching so carefully and when it stopped coming off... for months and months... I just started to eat ... I gained about 7 pounds.... I don't think I am a "band Person" Has anyone had a similar experience and had a revision that was succesful in weight loss? Or am I just doomed!.... So sad,,, so upset with myself... and so discouraged... I have never felt the "stop hunger" feeling they told me I would have.... its is hell.
  16. I have a question...I am 3 yrs out from getting my band. I have lost 60lbs and now gained 16 back. I just went to talk with my Dr today about doing a revision to Gastric Bypass. Has anyone with Medicare had a revision?
  17. In my opinion, I'd wait a while longer. I had my band placed in march of 07, and we have had a love/hate relationship until recently. I can't put my finger on exactly what changed, my mental attitude towards the band, different attitude, body adjusting to banding? if that's even possible, etc... Whatever the case, I've lost over 40lbs since February. I lost 40lbs from 2007 - 2010 and felt like a complete band failure. I still check this thread out all the time, because I thought for such a long time I would have to have a revision. A few relatives of mine had RNY and did so great with it, but I think I'm actually catching up. You also have to wonder why you think your band is not working for you... Or are you not working with your band. I think all of us getting any kind of weight loss surgery knows that we will have some kind of issue with eating, drinking, etc after surgery, but I also think we just get sick of it. Like, stop... I am so sick of PB'ing... But not wondering why you are PB'ing in the first place. Sometimes it's just an out of the blue thing for me, othertimes, it's my own fault... Also, not to punish yourself, but keep a food diary. Just to see your intake actually is. If its more than 1600 calories, you're eating to much. Under 800, way to few. Maybe its the food you are eating. Too much of a good thing is still too much... I learned that the hard way. Maybe not enough exercise? Maybe you've given up so there is only ice cream and no exercise. Its ok, I've been there. But just be honest with yourself. You can take some time off from the band. The best thing I ever did was join weight watchers for 1 month. That was all I needed. Learning to eat proper foods, with the proper portions. Also, getting back to my original BAND rules helped. Slow down while eating, no drinking, limiting liquid cals, Protein first, veggies second, etc... and keep posting on here. There are so many people in you situation... Just remember, the science of losing weight is sooooo simple. Calories in versus calories out, but it is one long, painful, emotional roller coaster! We're all on the ride together!
  18. I knew exactly what the date of my last period was because I charted every day, every test, etc. When I went for my first ultrasound, they measured the size at 10 days younger and gave me a new expected due date. However, they kept all the charts from my LMP due date. I have personally gone with my revised ultrasound due date because I would rather think I have less time to go when he comes even though my charts say different. I would hate to hit my original due date and spend 10 extra days waiting, and waiting, and waiting for "the day."

@@sleeveee Hi, I'm sorry you had some trouble with the procedure. I know when Ken and I changed Dr.'s the new Dr. really advised Ken and I that he felt we would have been better sleeve patients then band because of Ken's diabetes and my hormonal issues the malabsorbtive bit with the band would have worked faster for us. We are not in a big race to get the to the finish line so we just work it as it is and when we get there we get there. It's been slow and steady but we have not had any regain and that's a BIG plus in my book all other medical issues aside. He did tell us though that if we needed to revise for some reason in the future it would mean removing the band and healing internally few a few months before sleeve surgery could be performed so your experience especially if the liver and stomach have that kind of trauma is not out of the ordinary. Hang in there...your gonna get where you want to be!! How are you doing today?
  20. It took me 3 years of research to get banded because I was worried about the possibility of having to have a revision surgery. It's a legitimate risk and I understand your concern -- revision surgeries are sometimes required with the band. But in those 3 years, I gained another 75 lbs. and I became worried enough about my health to have that outweigh my concerns about potentially needing a revision surgery. Now, post-band, what I can tell you is if I have a regret, it's that I didn't get the band in year 1 of research rather than year 3. The surgery was so minimally invasive and such an easy recovery compared to carrying around the extra weight I was (and still am) carrying. I can seriously tell you that if I had to have surgery every year for the rest of my life to maintain the health of my band (which is absurd -- of course I won't need surgery that often -- I probably won't need it at all), I would STILL do it in a flash. I feel like a new person and I'm only 1/2 way to goal. My advice is get banded. If you need a revision (and you probably won't), so be it. It'll just be one day out of your new thin life. I wish someone had said that to me 3 years ago. Then again, maybe they did and it just didn't resonate. Maybe it's part of getting ready to accept the change that you'll go through emotionally and physically. I don't know. Good luck on your journey!
  21. 1) 45 lb. in 3.5 months is actually a good weight loss especially with a band. 2) Esophageal stacking is bad news and can lead to bad health problems. Personally, if I had it, I would be asking about a revision to another WLS, not going to see a shrink. (Though maybe your surgeon wants you to go for other reasons?) 3) Mini-bypass is WORSE NEWS. The surgery is dangerous and people gain their weight back. The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons does not include mini-bypass in their list of viable procedures and reputable docs don't do this procedure. But there are other WLS types you can revise to such as the regular bypass, the sleeve and the duodenal switch. Since you have done so well with the band, I would consider a restriction-only surgery like the sleeve over something with malabsorption like bypass or the switch. But those others are viable options too. Here's a chart that explains the differences: Weight-Loss Surgeries Compared
  22. I am in. Starting a little late but I know I am going to need some support over the next few weeks. I am getting a port revision on Friday and I am hoping to actually have some restriction along with that. He is going to put 6ccs in. We'll see. That is what I am "supposed" to be filled to now but I am not sure that it always worked. After the first fill they had a terrible time getting into my port. Anyway, I set a small goal but I want to ROCK it! I would love to be under 250 come Christmas!!:wink2: ~A

relief when you do mess up!!??

Im sure my answer will be met with strict criticism (as it should be cuz after 2 1/2 yrs of doing so caused my band to slip): the only thing I've found to relieve the pain of being stuck is to somehow bring the food back up (fi ger, toothbrush, etc). Now that's not permission to go willy nilly and vomit frequently. As I said, after 2 1/2 yrs of vomiting 3-5x a wk, my band slipped. Im soon to be revising to a sleeve cuz I ruined my band. Maybe I shouldn't have even answered, but I thought it might help in knowing how it does cause damage long term. I never found anything to relieve that stuck feeling. I would break out in a sweat, start shaking, and would HAVE to bring it back up. Never thought of actually preventing being stuck in the first place. That's actually the best way to relieve it. Avoid it Good luck Marci
  24. My understanding from the doc is that revising to bypass is not ideal for much weight loss. If you have reflux that is something else to consider however.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Corrected link: theworldaccordingtoeggface There are some great recipes. I'm definitely going to try the protein ice cream. LisaA - I like all of your dessert suggestions! I consider recipes to be suggestions and idea starters. I found a few recipes ideas on another site with desserts for diabetics that I will modify using some ideas from TheWorldAccordingToEggFace. I'm considering a thin cheesecake base (vanilla or lemon) with a fresh fruit topping and a layered pumpkin cheesecake. I have estimated calories at 100-150 and 10-12g of protein per slice based on my revisions. TheWorldAccordingToEggFace had a great idea to use Torani sugar-free syrup instead of butter or margarine when making the crumb crust.
