On how many calories do u feel full after a meal or in a day after gastric sleeve?
alwaysvegas replied to Best's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely agree with @VSGAnn2014...solid Proteins (fish, poultry, tofu) make me feel much more full for much longer than anything else, including liquid proteins. Calorie counts don't seem to matter much, but I'm sticking to low-carb, lower-fat options until I reach my goal weight and my nutritionist agrees to change my eating goals. -
Congrats on your weight loss.. I'm 2 weeks out today down 14 pounds

Wow that is amazing. I'm so hungry I feel like I will never lose weight. I'm at a 16 now

I am 5 weeks post op and I understand there are stalls in losing weight but is it normal to gain? I was down 40 pounds 2 weeks ago and I have slowly gained back 5 pounds, I am trying not to panic but when I see the scale moving up instead of down it's kind of scary. Are you due on your monthly? Are you constipated? I know I tend to gain when I don't go to the loo for a while. Are you logging everything you eat down? Are you drinking enough fluids (and the right ones) If you are sticking to your teams advice you are doing good. Put the scale away for a while and keep on track. Congrats re the surgery btw

Post Op Exercise
Ms Lady in NC replied to MsDownToMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started the day after surgery. My coordinator Laurie was surprised to hear of me walking stairs and all the floors the next morn after surgery so after my leak test and a few hours of rest at the hotel, we hit the streets LITERALLY. We walked up and down the streets of Tijuana for a good 8 hours enjoying all the festivities and culture. Then a few days later at home I used my treadmill at home until that got boring and I went back to my gym where I have been since I was 2 weeks post-op. I mainly used the treadmill and bikes for a few weeks then went on to light weights and the dreadful stairmaster to finally back into my fav...boxing. I was told to basically do a little at a time to work your way back to where you once were and in a few weeks I was. It really all depends on you and your body. Pushing yourself before time will not get you to your goal any quicker so just remember to do what your doctor says. Good Luck! -

7 Weeks Since I Have Been Sleeved! Update...
yecats posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Everyone, I just wanted to give a little update for some who might wonder how it is after being sleeved. I recall, not to long ago wondering how I might feel a month or two out. First let me say, I went to Mexico, had surgery with Dr. Kelly. I lost 12lbs preop (if I recall right lol). Since the time I was sleeved I have lost 25 more lbs. I am tickled. I was on liquids for 2 plus weeks and around the 3rd week I started mushies. About 4 weeks I started soft foods. So far this has been a blessing but my sleeve has tolerated EVERYTHING. I have not ate one thing that has bothered it. I must say that I do pretty much stay by the book. I eat protein first always. I have tried a lot of different foods. I even can eat not huge amounts but never have I ever felt like I was going to be ill. I do feel sometimes that I have had enough. I did take 4 weeks off from work. I am a server at a very high volume restaurant and also clean houses for a living. Very physical work. I have no problems with energy level being low. I get in all my vitimans, protein and liquids. Everything has went almost to smooth. If I did say I have had an issue it is that I continue to deal with constipation ( sorry if TMI). Some NSV's (non scale victories) that I am so happy about are 1) I measured before and then a month after surgery and had lost 14inches total. 2) I went from a 20 tight, probably 22 to a 16 wide easily 3) My husband is lean , no weight issues and now finally after many years I way less than him. YEahhh. He is tall but .... who cares I weigh less. 4) I have been walking atleast 3 miles aday, sometimes twice a day now and have started jogging also. ME JOGGING, CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!!! 5) I can sleep all nite now, I also can sleep lying down, not with a bunch of pillows sitting me up. 6) I can not believe I am going to say this but..... for the first time I feel attractive. It is not how I look but how I feel about myself. I can breath and not huff and puff when I walk. 7) Oh yeah, I can cross my legs...lol. I love this. 8) Okay... I am going to say it kinda.... lol , by choice I have not been getting a lot of sleep. Not only am I happy, my husband is a very happy man these days. Something woke up, my hormones have been screaming. ok I am done. -

I am so glad I I am so glad I chose being sleeved over any other weight lose surgery. For me anyway, I have had no issues.. Life is looking up sooooo much!!! -
Don’t make excuses and cut corners. That’s how I gained weight in the first place, and I wouldn’t risk it again. You’re only cheating yourself

Hi everyone, i have been exercising 6 days a week and 2 hours a day. Two weeks ago i ate 800-900 calories per day and lost 7lbs, then last week i eat about 500-600 per day and only lost 3lbs. My question is how many calories is everyone eating, how much exercise are you doing, and can you see a difference in your weight lose per week?

Calories Per Day Vs Exercise
tamg26k replied to leanora27801's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I exercise about the same, 6 days a week and really try to keep my calories around 900-1000 per day. Honestly with all of the exercise we are still not taking in enough calories but it is hard. I tried to supplement this by eating a bit more lean beef that is higher in calories than turkey or chicken. Your weight loss with increase if you increase your calories to about 1000-1200 per day. I also increased my Protein to about 120 grams per day. The only way for me to do this was to supplement with 2 Protein shakes - one in the morning and one post workout. The protein has really helped with muscle recovery. -

DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to jenni612's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not too much. At the beginning a lot of what you lose is actually water weight. This is especially true after a hospital stay when they're pumping you full of IV fluids. You're doing great, don't over analyze it, just enjoy your success -

melodymouse replied to donatelife36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal and will pass. Your brain is remembering your old way of eating. Be sure to drink your Protein and Water even if you don't want it to stay strong and keep your body from going into starvation mode. When the weight starts falling off, you won't miss it! = D -

post op question..
DLCoggin replied to Crystalynn Alhashim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The question to postpone your trip is a difficult one to answer. I would definitely recommend that you ask your doctor and follow his/her advice. Three weeks post-op you're likely to still be pretty sore and probably will have very little or no appetite. Trips home also tend to be synonymous with food. Be warned that yielding to that temptation at three weeks out would almost certainly be something you would regret. As you can see from the responses you already have, weight loss will fly all over the place. The fact that your weight loss might be different from mine, or anyone else's, means absolutely nothing. Everyone is different. There are just too many variables. Setting your expectations to someone else's results can be self sabotaging and frustrating. You're much better off focusing your energy on trying to relax and letting your body find its own way in its own time. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! You're gonna love the new you!! -
Cheating on day 6 post op
Anna Nim replied to DebraM04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Will you use your body as a trash can, or will you use the trash can as a trash can?" WORD! (and yes, overhaul everyone's eating style. If you cook, take a break, they get what you cook, which should only be what is good for you, they don't need weight issues later either!) -
After 3-4 months your clear to eat anything regular correct? Not stick to the Protein shakes and purees? I been eating fine. Watching protein calories and sugar intake. I haven't started the gym but will do so tonight or tmr. My job I have is very active so I have been doing great with weight loss. Believe it or not I kicked up my calorie intake and was losing more. Now I'm at a stall. I eat mainly veggies..... veggie subs (3" at a time) or veggie gluten free pizza 1 tiny piece to 2. raw veggies. Lean cuisines. Jello. pudding. Hummus. Powerade zero. Fruits. smoothies. Right now its my craving time of month. So its hard but I try to avoid food at this time of month. Any other healthy choices?

For me, I had to keep getting fills(6) until I felt I couldn't handle any more without being too tight/restricted. At 6 I was getting stuck often but I was never hungry. So, after 3 months of this I decided I was too tight so I got an adjustment of .5 less saline. I felt satisfied but not for as long. The Holidays were coming up so I opted to wait it out and didn't lose any weight for 6 months. So, I got a fill 2 months ago and now I'm back in the green zone. My mistake of taking saline out cost me at least 6 months in my journey. What I thought was too tight was just me not eating small enough and chewing enough. I hope I learned my lesson. Eating properly has been the most difficult part of this journey. tmf

I was wondering if anyone can speak to it being normal to feel somewhat remorseful about choosing to have surgery? I'm 5 weeks post op, lost 30 pounds preop, and only 17 pounds since the surgery. Suffice it to say I'm so disappointed and am beginning to feel like this may have all been for not. Reading about everyone else's success had me hopeful that I'd be sitting pretty on the loser's bench by now, unfortunately I still feel like the fat girl that doesn't get invited to take a seat. Been in a stall for 19 days now and I've tried everything to stimulate some change. I really increased my protein for a week, I ate more calories for a few days, and now I'm on day 3 of the 5 day pouch test. The only difference I've seen is the scale shows I've actually gone up a pound or two then back down. Today I got to eat some eggs as part of the 5 day pouch test and they felt like a rock in my stomach. So uncomfortable and made me feel more miserable than every. I can't imagine that I'll feel like this for the rest of my life when interacting with food. I don't feel like this is normal and all the happiness about my decision is starting to drain away. Can this procedure actually not work? Can the body be so resistant to weight loss that it fights to hold on to it? Is there anyone out there who feels like they haven't made the best decision for themselves? Has anyone gone through a period like this and can speak to it actually getting better? I know it's too late and can't take it back now, but how do I live with it?
-
I too am scared about getting my 1st fill and it is today. I will be leaving here soon. I hope it is just right, don't want to be too tight or not restricted enough. I have not lost any weight and have gained about 5 lbs in the last several weeks, eat too much. Please wish me luck, I do love my band!! Shelley

I actually read an article about how lipo fails within a year just this morning and lo and behold, the link has already been posted on VST: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/17114-fat-liposuctioned-from-hips-returns-to-belly-within-12-months/page__pid__145171#entry145171 I don't know anyone who's had SmartLipo, but my mom's friend had regular lipo on her lower abdomen and she regained all that weight - but it didn't go back to her lower belly and instead concentrated right above her bellybutton. She had a bit of a belly before, but now she just looks ridiculous with this weird spare tire hovering above her bellybutton and then a completely flat lower abdominal area. She definitely regrets getting the lipo. I've oscillated on the subject of lipo for a while - I'm also pear-shaped and while I'm finally at a point where my thighs don't chafe if I wear a skirt, I still have some flab there. But after seeing that article, I think I'll pass.

Could I possibly never need a fill?
Toddy replied to Cwalband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my humble experience, losing weight without a fill is like dieting before weight loss surgery, some are successful, and some are not. Even though I had plication after the fact, I still need fills to help control my eating.
