So I just got back from my pre-op...... Chest X-Ray Upper GI EKG Lab work Everyone was super nice! After I registered and did all my paperwork, tech called me to the back. Told me to get undressed and gave me two gowns, one for the front, one for the back. Now I've never had a chest x-ray or upper GI so I didn't know what to expect. Did the chest x-ray, easy. Had me lay down on the hard, metal table, did some more x-rays. Had me flip over on my stomach, then the fun began. He puts me in this awkward position with my head tilted sideways. Then he asked me, okay what would you like to drink? A White Russian? I laughed, he laughed! So I guess you have to drink it laying down so the liquid goes down slowly. So here I am, drinking this nasty, chalky "white russian" laying down on my stomach with my head sideways! Looking back at it now, I must have looked funny! Anyway it all was pretty painless. Went over what to expect on day of surgery and what to bring to the hospital. It's becoming so real now. Getting nervous and anxious. Only 4 weeks away!

Not quite sure what the dumping syndrome is - but it's likely PB'ing or drinking after a meal, forcing food into your lower stomach much faster and creating hunger. You will be able to sleep normally after a few weeks with the band. I am a stomach sleeper and was able to go back to that sometime around week 4. As soon as your soreness is gone and you feel no pressure at the port sight, it's safe to sleep any way that is comfortable for you. I hope this helps!

Mine is three-pronged: First meet with psychiatrist/psychologist for initial questions. As others have said, they were very surface questions. I suppose if you REALLY divulged a lot, they would go further. As with most therapists, it's all in how much you share. Second was answer what seemed like 500 question test - think high school test, fill in the bubbles with a number 2 pencil. Questions were BIZARRE - do you feel you are being watched? Have you been abducted by aliens? Third was meet with psychiatrist/psychologist for follow-up after test. My results were normal (I like to point this out to my hubby!!), so it was, once again, a superficial conversation.

Hard not to get discouraged when you see other people starting the process after me, and I am still waiting for approval. The 45 day limit on the appeal is fast approaching, and am still waiting for letter of medical necessity from my neurologist. What stings is that the request was sent over almost three weeks ago. Doc dictated it the next day and sent it off to be transcribed. Well I guess there was nothing in the file so the transcriptionist just moved on. No follow up. No question. No nothing. Just dumped it and moved on. So now I may miss the deadline for the appeal because they did nothing about it for three weeks. I started in July and didn't have the six month diet. I was told late September or early October and I would be sleeved. Mid October and I am still trying to get stuff submitted. Trying to keep hopes up and anxiety in check. But getting more and more discouraged every day.

I had to anti-coagulants for 2 weeks after surgery. My husband googled how to administer them and they weren't that painful. I am still covered in bruises tho and I've not had any shots for a week now!

My surgery is October 23, I am currently on my 2 week liquid diet, this is very difficult, but necessary. I have not cheated on this diet, but my husband can eat whatever he wants, never gains weight, he also eats very healthy, so in the long run, this will help me. Pear425, you said some really great things that will also help me out. Thanks

The part of my stomach removed 6-10-13 during VSG was positive for a bacteria called H.Pilori. My surgeon started me on Very Powerful antibiotics for 2 weeks & I'm nauseated most of the time. Just awful!! Anyone else undergone or undergoing this treatment? Weight-wise I am down 52lbs (200 from 252).

I know exactly how you feel! This last week has been annoying, my stomach went from 'going good' to 'Everything upsets me.' It's driving me up the wall. Don't even get me started on outside stimuli. LOL

I jog, speed walk, do eliptical etc. etc. I don't know what else to do but just hang on and pray the scale starts moving again.

Hoping They Dont Postpone My Surgery
D1NOnlySexyLady posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So today after speaking to my NUT she told me that what I was eating as my two week pre op diet was all wrong and that I should be having the Bariatric Advantage meal replacement shakes. But my surgery is on May 1st and there is no way I can have it deliver at a reasonable time. Anyways after reading some of the topics I asked her if I can use Body Fortress and she mention that while it's not her first choice she's not completely against it. So now I'm just worried is there any way that they can stop my surgery because I did'nt do as I was told. I have been waiting so long for this surgery and I wouldn't want for it to be cancel. Hopefully someone can share their experience so I know I'm not alone here. -
I musta been on the "Nice" list this year ! Yes, it came a week after Christmas, but, I won't complain!

I wish you the best! I have to be on full liquids for 2 weeks! Yikes!

I'd suggest to get used to some type of shake with Water too . I only made my shakes with milk pre op, but can't have milk until my 2nd or 3rd week post op. I'm struggling to get my Protein in now because of the water. I tried mixing with diluted crystal light, yuck! It's foams horribly. So I think having a favorite shake with and without water is useful.

My doctor told me that feeling hunger sometimes is normal and also to eat every three hours. I am 3-1/2 weeks post op and the hunger was strongest after about 10-14 days post op. After about day 17 or 18, I really haven't felt much hunger, but I am eating every three or so hours, albeit in very small quantities. I am starting to believe that the Gherlin hormone has something to do with the hungry feeling, and once it is reduced in the body, the hunger has subsided. Frankly, I think feeling a little hungry is a normal part of life. The feeling is how our bodies are programmed to remind us to eat. We should be eating, just in smaller amounts.

Hi all, Well I've been on this journey since July 5th and I have completed all of the required classes and tests needed for surgery. After waiting 5 weeks for my insurance approval I get a call from my surgeons office that my insurance has denied me because I didn't complete the 6 month supervised weight loss. Now this is upsetting because my insurance provider informed my surgeon in July that I wasn't required to complete this. Now they are saying I do. Ugh! Do I have a case to argue? I could of had 3 months down already if they would of said this in the beginning. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I too went through things pretty quickly. I didnt see my doctor until second week in Dec, went through EVERYTHING by the third week of Dec and had an original surgery date of Jan 4, 2007. The date was moved up to Jan 18, one week away!!! Pretty scary how quickly things can move when you are motivated, huh?! Anyway, I want to wish you good luck and keep everyone posted!

Congrats, that's fantastic!!! Yeah, I've been able to get more protein in also, and it definitely makes a difference. I am trying to increase my water now, I seem to struggle more with that than protein. Way to go on breaking your stall!!!
