Should the Moose Stay or Go?!
delta_girl replied to jan8j's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My sister-in-law brought me a very small rectangular pillow the day after surgery. I named it Baby Pillow. It and I were best buds for about 4 weeks. Perfect for just a bit of support or to tuck together with a larger pillow. Don't know what I would have done without it. -
I started sleeping in a bed about a week and a half after surgery, but I would try to sleep on my side. I would wake up on my stomach but it wasn't that comfortable. By week three I was sleeping like a baby.

I'm a belly sleeper and I'm 4 weeks out and I can't do it. I had some complications plus hernia surgery so maybe it's just me. I can get onto my sides now, but sometimes going from side to back still hurts me.

It might not always break you out of a stall (I think the kind of food you eat would do that more) but it's always good to try and get in as much water as you can. It helps keep your system clean and can help you lose weight more than you would if you drank less. It also helps your skin elasticity. It's hard to get all the water in the beginning, but it gets easier as your stomach heals and you can tolerate more.

I completely agree with you. I am so jealous you are going as soon as next week. Good luck. I wish you the best. -
muaraclegg - you are right, too. I need to drop my calories and get to the gym. I can do the eliptical for a whole 30 minuites without feeling near death. That is a feat for me! bel;e - I am envious that you can do the elliptical that long. I tried the gym and even have a treadmill in my basement, but I get BORED!! I walk 3 miles as many times a week as I can, plus I do some exercise vids I found OnDemand. But I am in a slow spot in my weight loss now and it is annoying to me... I need to boost my metabolism.... someone recommended I try and fool it by upping my calories for a day or too and then dropping then back down (prob not the healthiest), I am trying that today.. going to drop back down on Sunday to my normal 600-800. Also drink plenty of Water - I think I lose more when I drink more water. Unfortunately I am a diet coke - aholic. I can't drink it from a can or bottle anymore so I allow myself a fountain soda every day - if I don't have it in the house I freak, if it's here I can drink water all day and it won't bother me,

Hi everyone! I'm a 26 year old woman from Texas, and I'm going in to get banded on Monday of next week. I'm excited, scared, and thankful to have gotten the opportunity to have this surgery. I'm single, and I figure that my twenties is the perfect age for me to start getting thinner. I think the bad (food getting stuck, not eating out as much) outweighs the good (being healthier, looking better). Does anyone remember the kinds of pain medication they were prescribed? Did you have to take a steroid? I'm kinda sensitive when it comes to pills. Do you have to take out all of your piercings when you have the surgery? (I've got alot of ear piercings....) Any advice? -
I know what you mean! BUT stick to your preop diet to the letter (and even more importantly the first 6 weeks or so of the post op diet)! Don't cheat...it's just for a little while and then you should be able to eat most foods again, you'll just (as you get restriction) be able to eat less. This is the hardest part but hang in there so your liver will shrink and you will have a smooth operation! :tongue_smilie:

Nice 4 week start, Good luck on your journey

Hello all. I am new to this site, so I hope I am doing this right. I am getting "banded" next Tuesday, November 20th. I am a nervous wreck!!! I know I have made the right decision, but that doesnt make it any less scary. Anyone getting this done next week? Any words of wisdom?

I did drive, when I went out but I probably shouldn't have. I got air in my tire, went to the grocery store and went to the craft store. I thought, the more walking the better. But the bending over to get air in my tire really messed me up for a while. I did no check to see if I was really allowed to, I guess I should have. I am still swollen. I think I still have some gas, and I have not had a bowel movement since last Thursday, so about a week. Yesterday I started releasing some gas. I took two weeks off from work, but I like to keep busy so I am afraid this down time will only encourage me to do more than I should. I really need to rest a lot and do some walking.

I have a question. I was told when I had my UGI that I had a very small dilation. I asked if it was because I ate too much or did anything else I shouldn't of. I was told no. I asked if they were going to remove fluid and was told no, everything was going down fine and that it was very slight. I wasn't even told to go on liquids...just that I was progressing nicely and my weight loss is good and that in fact the fluid was moving through so well that I probably could actual use a slight fill (but they wouldn't do it because of the heartburn and reflux). To this day, I still struggle with heartburn and occasional nightly reflux and lots of burping (most of this is the week before my period...sorry if TMI, but I get alot tighter then). Do you all think I should press this issue?? Is the dilation getting better/worse/the same? Am I hurting myself? I don't want to have any fluid taken out, but I don't want to hurt myself and potentually lose my band! have you ever heard of doing nothing for a slight dilation? Just any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am just over 5 months post op and for the past 3 weeks my stomach has been soooo sour! I have been taking nexium twice a day and probably going to start Prilosec again. It happens all day long and nothing is helping. Sometimes it makes me seriously feel like I'm going to puke. Has anyone else had this?? I had reflux the first month or 2 but it went away.

My update from June 1
James Marusek replied to DinaJuneSleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on being approved for surgery by your insurance company. I would recommend three things at your stage. 1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success. 2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery. 3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery. -
September 4Th Surgery Date!!!
hls50 replied to lv2nurse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!! I'm a week behind you, I'm on Sept. 11th. I'm actually going on a cruise 2 weeks before my surgery, this was planned way before I got going on this. I get back from the cruise and have to start my liquid diet. What about you? When do you have to go on yours? Do you have to have a hospital stay? -

Old stomach still growling and gurgling
Bigguy9347 replied to retzlpa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think he actualy meant what he said his old stomach is Groaning. The reason I say this is becuase my Old stomach did also for about a week and a half after surgery . It was 2 distinct growls from 2 different areas one from my pouch and one from my old stomach. It was rather strange but it did stop. My surgeon told me it was nothing to worry about. -
Sleeved 4/11 5 days out
kins117 replied to carlychloe2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am clear liquids for 1 week (sleeved 4/12), then will go to purées which includes yogurt, sf pudding, applesauce, etc -
I'm feeling really awkward. I go this week for my post op. I've been eating regular good but being careful about whites. However, I am always hungry and stop myself before feeling full because I don't feel full and guilt rises. I don't eat as much as before but after I eat I feel like I have over eaten. These protein drinks make me gag now. I can't take the ones with thicker consistency at this point. I am almost excited about getting a full because I need the restriction. Anyone else with this feeling?

Hi Everyone. Haven't been on in a while, but I am so discouraged decided to ask you experts. I had lost about 82 lbs but it has slowed so much. Even though I am exercising and watching portions and carbs, I only lost 1 lb in month 6. Now that I am starting the 7th month, I gained a pound yesterday and got on the scale today (which I wouldn't usually do so I don't obsess) but had gained another lb! I am soooo down and wonder if the weight loss stops at 7 months for most people or if I have just hit a stall. If so it;s one H___ of a stall! Just hoping you guys can pick my spirits up a little and give me some adivce, Thanks, as always!
