Do you notice how much others eat?
blondebomb replied to *Lexie*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wouldnt worry about it..I just tell others I dont eat much anymore...none in my family except my hubs knows what I had done. if it does leak out an asked alls Im saying is I had to have my tummy worked on bc the tummy hormones stopped working right..which they did! an now I finally got on the right thyroid med an its doing wonders. dont eat much anymore! -
Ditto. They were just as enthused with my 6lb weight loss as my 26lb loss. I am extremely pleased with my team. I just wish people would call medical staff on their BS. Don't allow anyone to make you feel bad. This is challenging enough.

Do you notice how much others eat?
blondebomb replied to *Lexie*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
YES! my thinking is soo opposite now. we went out with some friends a few wks back...we went to Rubys..they (hubs and the other 2) got the salad bar on top of meal an when the hubs came back before the other 2 I told him Im going to play on my phone while y'all are eating...I said I am NOT going to just sit here an watch y'all eat all these food with this look on my face which I am DESPERTLY trying to avoid putting on about trying not to care of what others are eating...bc when I do get my main course which I order small already I immediatly ask for a to go box . I only eat about 4 or 5 small bites an then Im done! I get these comments all the time when with others.."IS THAT ALL YOUR EATING? ARE YOU FULL ALREADY? yep!! I just say I dont eat much anymore. my life an social life doesnt center around food anymore. I do get some looks like Im crazy but ya no I dont care! its me an my new lifestyle...they have noticed I have lost another human being in weight..lol...an I love it! I have a friend who is reacing 300 or more for all I no an she asked me what I have done told her everything I stopped eating, watch everything I eat an her responce was I dont see me losing this weight ever...been over weight all her life...in her 60s now...I said WHY? shes miserable. she has looked into the bariatric way but cant pass the mental/psychologic assesments...so I dont no what else to tell her. but now when I see what others eat when we do an it makes me sick to look at so I try an keep my mind on other things...I try not to be judgmental an let others be themselves an not care..I just control me! -
Surgery today, in pain
MrsMurky721 replied to MrsMurky721's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everybody! @@Elode I tried the abdominal binder when I got home but I think it was too small. Still had to hold my belly up as I walked and it was hurting my incisions so I took it off. but it was a great idea! Anybody else have to hold up your belly to avoid that painful stretching feeling? I got home yesterday. Pain is mostly controled with loratb. Of course having trouble getting enough fluids. I think it maY have to do with my hiatal hernia repair bc it hurts somewhere between my breasts when I swallow. I'm walking often. No nausea. I knew I would be in a lot of pain. I knew I would have trouble with fluids. I knew it would suck a lot. But knowing it will happen and experiencing it are two different things lol each day does seem better than the last though. -
For People Worried About Keeping Surgery Secret...
aHealthierMe121714 replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't care. I'm a full blown open person and could care less what other people think. My family and my Dr's support this so I honestly don't care if they want to talk. I am 5' 6.5" HW 255. Most people start out with "you aren't big enough for that. You could loose that little amt by exercising". I come back at them with you know what if I could have it would have been gone by now. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis so if I do too much I end up in the bed in pain and I can barely walk bc my knees CRUNCH so bad. When my rheumatologist mentioned possible back surgery or knee surgery, I started looking for some other option, somehow. My Dr mentioned this and things have just fallen in to place. If someone keeps on with me I very nicely put them in their place and tell them my FAMILY, my DOCTORS, my closest FRIEND support this and I have to do this for MY health. I'm not asking them to do it or anything, just if they want to help they can pray while I am going to be goings through the 2 wk pre op and during surgery and then the 1st few months after. It always shuts them up. Now, since I start a full CLEAR liquid diet for the next 14 days exactly prior to surgery, can anyone give me suggestions on what to eat? This is the only thing I am stressed about. -
I'm glad this polling was asked. Thanks dc0520! :-) I had my RNY last year on 12/10/2013. I haven't EVER been hungry or thirsty since my surgery. But my NUT says we're supposed to eat within two hours of waking up and no more than two hours before sleep, and at least every two or three hours throughout the day. She calls it the "2-3-2". So early on after my surgery I set alarms on my smartphone to remind me to eat and drink. I get up at 5:30AM, so my first eating alarm is at 6:30AM. I also have alarms for eating at 9AM, noon, 3PM, and 6PM. Most nights I TRY to get to bed at 9PM. So I sometimes eat a little before I go to bed. Keep in mind, when I say "eat" I'm only talking about 1/4 to no more than 1 cup of food at each "mealtime". And that's mostly Protein. And I try to get at least 2 liters, or 2 quarts, of liquid, usually Water, per day. It's a good thing too. Because since our stomach acid is next to NONE now, we HAVE to stay hydrated, at least to keep the food moving through our altered systems. Since my surgery a year ago, the closest I've come to being hungry is that now my body "expects" to be fed at those times my alarms are set for. But sometimes I get caught up in my work or play, so much so, that I don't notice, or I ignore those phone alarms. So that's not hunger. At least it's not what I used to call hunger before surgery. We all have to "get used to the new me" that is each of us. It takes time. It takes help, like this online support group. And it takes reminders, like my smartphone alarms. But it's worth it!

@@KylieD87 I'm doing great how are u. I'm ready for Monday.. I'm suppose to be at hospital by 7 am and surgery starts at 9 am. The information form says it is 3 hours. I completely forgot to ask how long surgery was bc I was asking about medications. My surgeon said I can still take a nsda but not every day.

About six years ago, I spent 6 weeks at a very good fat farm. They fed us about 1000 calories a day. Then, on Friday nights, they would up the calories with a very special meal. It was great fun. All the people would sort of dress up, and we ate by candle light. The idea behind the meal was to show your body that you were not trying to starve it. So now, I try to vary my calories, and what I eat, somewhat. I tend to like the same foods all the time. I like routines. But I am sure that varying what I eat each day is a good weight loss plan for me.

where did he get his bison? It's my second favorite meat ???? Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention the 4H pig I got this summer and the 50 pounds of grass fed angus steaks and burgers that one of the local ranchers gave to me and the vet to split. I'm loving it cause I hate grocery shopping. Thank goodness for large freezers and my vacuum sealer!

Throwing left overs away
Inner Surfer Girl replied to micmt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful! Raccoons like it when they are fed well and don't like it so much when they aren't. We had family friends who fed raccoons and when they went on vacation the raccoons broke into their house and trashed the place. -
I have BC/BS and approved the first try. I think you should be good to go. I was taken back, by what your psychologist said. I think family support is a big thing. Your family should be proud of you for taking the next step to being healthy and be around for along time. Even though I'm at 33% bf my diabetes is out of control, that's one of the main reasons to get the surgery, Hang in there, think positive, think about the new you.

I have raccoons that come up to my deck all the time. I give my left overs to them. I really enjoy watching them and it appeases all guilt of wasting good food. Best fed raccoons in the state!! But it helps me!

@@Elode I too think it's a scare tactic as well as making sure that I will be able to change my diet after the surgery, however, I'm willing to change it bc I'm just tired of the excess weight! Yes, I'm inquiring of both, the before and after. -

I eat salad, cucumbers and fish and have been drinking LOTS of water. To the point I am waking up every 10 min to go to the rr!! UGHhHH! I'm just cautious bc I dont wanna eat the wrong things! -
May I ask how you are taking your blood pressure? A blood pressure can read normal when your sitting and drop when you stand up its called Orthostatic hypotension. Try taking your Bp in a seated position and then take one immediately after you stand up to rule out a Bp issue. If you are diabetic it could very easily be your BS, and even if your not. Do you have a glucose meter?

Can anyone help me with this pre op diet? I am exercising and drinking a protein shake once a day, however I am scared to eat or drink anything bc I have less than a month to lose 15-20 pounds. Can someone suggest things to eat that will help lose the 15-20? I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

I am 14 weeks out and have lost 37lbs. Premier Protien shakes from Sams Club have been a blessing !!! I am having a hard time keeping a good diet bc I get hungry and don't have time to eat 5 times a day. I only lose weight if I walk and I rarely find the time. I won't give up! Good luck!!! -
They do have 30 days legally to make a decision, If your already approved and it says that then I don't see why you can't make a surgery date? I have BCBS FED and they called me before they even told my DR (mainly Because I harassed the hell out of them unfortunately as aggravating as it is they have the power for the most part so just Wait......BUT hey who cares Your approved!!!! blondebomb replied to KeeWee's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
SERIOUSLY???!! there is only 3 ppl that knows the truth of my weight journey an I am not about to start. I am soo sorry you had to deal with this neg garbage. it is jealously and many ppl cant handle change. thats why many just stay the same an when others around them do it rocks the boat. Im sitting here shaking my head side to side for ya. I do have one friend that has asked me how I have been losing..I am down 88 so not to far behind on the big 100!! but I told her (shes over 300) I told her I had to get off that path bc I was reaching close to the 280s and I had to STOP it dead in its tracks! I refused to stay on that toxic road. I told her I stopped all junk, no processed sugars, no HFCS, no modern grains, no wheat, got off all artifical sweetners and on a very strict diet an total portion control...which is no lie. I made these dietary changes over a yr ago. but I thought just maybe down the road I MIGHT clue her in on a few other details. I have over 12 dx on health issues an fibro is one...the first month out I felt decent..man after a month my body went into a rebellious flare!! alothough I also have lupus and polymyalgia so yes there is still alot of chronic pain...but Im managing. I am happy to hear your physically feeling much better an off meds! I am however off my cpap machine. prediabetes disappeared..bp is normal! my hubs cant keep his hands off me!! drives me nuts..u keep shinning girl and dont get brought down! keep chin up and head held high!! keep strutting gf!!!! -
Sheryl, is there such a thing as a perfect man? That's the question. Lol If anything ever happens to my husband, I would be very picky, too, if I decided to find love again. I understand you being concerned about your back pain especially with all of the loved ones that have had cancer in the past. Hopefully the back pain isn't something serious. Georgia, I feel so bad for your daughter! One point!!!! What a blow. There's got to be a reason it turned out this way, though. In the future hopefully that will be made clear for all of you. Congrats on another grand. My "little" sister, 8 years younger than me, is having her first baby in February. I cannot wait. The last baby born in the family was my youngest who is 11. I love baby snuggles. She's having a boy. We were hoping for a girl but a boy is just fine. Denise, enjoy your time away from Bill. Oh Sheryl, I forgot to ask do you still have any sensitivity around the incision across the top of your butt? That area is very sensitive to me especially while lying down doing different ab work or floor work. It feels like nerve endings. I know it can take a couple years for those to grow back but I was just wondering if you had that issue. Yes, Florinda, tell us more about the man! Maybe even a picture of him? How about a picture from you Sheryl? My fast day yesterday went fine. I like the day after fast days bc my sleeve feels tight. I think getting in some real vitamin D on vacation really helped. I do take vitamin d daily. 5000 whatever's of it but I think the real stuff has lifted my mood a little. Tomorrow I'm spending the day with my mom shopping. Hopefully I will get my shopping done. Christmas is such a chore the last couple years with different family stuff that has happened. I would rather it just be another day but bc of the kids I will continue on. Hopefully we will get the tree up this weekend.

Just heard a horror story from a coworker about a friend who ate so much she "burst her stomach and it couldn't be fixed" a year after surgery. I call BS, but a little part of me wonders if it can happen!
