    Hurry Up and Wait!

This process is very much "hurry up, then wait"! I should have been able to have all my requirements done in three months but I will be six months in when I get my surgery in June. Also if you dont like the DR I would look to find someone else. I have been extremely impressed with my surgeon and his staff this far.

    First time

Everyday it will get better. You just have to remember this is a journey. I am 4 months out today and I remember the first two weeks were rough.

    Is this enough?

Hello, I know I work out a lot BUT I am not sure if its enough. Let me clarify by saying I want to work hard my first year. I currently work out 6-7 days a week BUT it looks like this: Monday: 30 minute Personal Trainer - ARMS and then a 2 mile walk home Tuesday: Walk 2 miles home or walking in place for 10k steps Wednesday: 30 minute Personal Trainer - LEGS and then a 2 mile walk home Thursday: Walk 2 miles or walking in place for 10k steps Friday: 2 mile walk home and mild strength training (15 min) Saturday and Sunday: Usually 1 day of a 5 mile walk and the other be a smaller walk/hike. I get about 400-500 minutes of activity on my Apple Watch a week. I am not dripping sweat during all those minutes tho. I am part of three StepBets this month so I get at least 9k steps a day. What would you add? Or am I just being paranoid.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Hi, friend. I had bypass on the 11th and I'm definitely still struggling with some fatigue and light-headedness, although starting on soft foods has definitely helped. Are you meeting your protein goals? I don't think I would be close to mine without my one protein shake that I throw in some decaf iced coffee in the morning. Did they have you stop your Trulicity after surgery? That would definitely account for your numbers going up. I stalled weight loss wise for a few days too and then saw a big drop yesterday. I hope sincerely that your lightheadedness goes away and your energy comes back very soon. ❤️ Edit: "I stalled" not "installed"
  5. I've had my sleeve surgery on March 23rd. I was 326 lbs before the liquid diet, dropped down to 310 just a day before surgery and now I'm between 271 and 275. Today (April 20th) kinda marks my 1 month post op and I've been hospitalized twice! The first time happened was when I was switching over to a multivitamin pill from a chewable. (2 weeks post op) Once I popped that pill and swallowed it, I felt it opened in my stomach and left a extremely bitter taste and threw up all of my medication and made me weak. Went to the hospital and they said that I was dehydrated. Thank you multivitamin pill for making me feel this way. They gave me IV and sent me home the same day. The second time, which was last Saturday (4/15), I was sitting on my couch taking a little nap because I was a little tired. I woke up and left my plate from my lunch on my table. I got up, took it in the kitchen and right away felt so exhausted! My partner saw me and said what's wrong? I remember saying help me to the couch. 15 seconds later and I was on the floor by my bathroom. I've actually lost consciousness for 15 seconds and let's just say that I didn't make it to the toilet in time... Went back to the hospital for test and lab work and my red blood cells were at a all time low. They gave me IV and magnesium. Stayed overnight. When my levels were somewhat normal, they sent me home. Today, had an appointment with my regular doctor. He said that I'm mild anemic and things will slowly get better overtime. I have another appointment to go to tomorrow and that's with my bariatric surgeon. Almost everyday, im having nausea. Making it a little difficult to take my medication/vitamins and eat/drink. If I knew my body would be going through this, I never would have did this!

    March 23 buddies yet?

I thought my progress was slow going, too. Even this week I'm feeling a little down about it. But two steps forward and one step back is still progress (my daily affirmation lol), even if it's not what we're hoping to see.

Pain When Eating - NOT Stomach Pain

Update! I am one month and three weeks post-op, and I've had some dramatic improvements. Chewing thoroughly has helped the most with the pain, though some foods still do not go down easy (smoked sausage, heavily fried foods, etc.), but not a whole lot. I got sick once when I ate some asparagus and tomatoes (cooked), but I think I ate them too quickly. It was not very bad, but it was unpleasant, as getting sick always is. I also had blood tests, and all of my numbers went down! I'm most excited for my cholesterol, as it's 185 and was over 200 previously. Most days, I start with a protein shake for breakfast, then a higher protein pasta with lots of fiber (handfuls of spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.), and some pre-cooked meat for lunch. Lean Cuisine protein meals are perfect sizes for me right now, though I don't finish them all. I don't want to overly rely on frozen food, but on the days I don't feel like eating what I cooked, it's a nice option to have. Dinner is usually soup - Proper Good is my favorite, made with lots of bone broth for extra protein, or Amy's soups. Snacks include mini Babybel cheeses, protein puddings, Greek yogurt, and Braniac brain bars. I have PCOS, so I try to eat to balance my hormones with an emphasis on protein and a healthy amount of good fats and fiber. I have lost 35 pounds so far, and I can't tell a difference yet physically, but my energy levels are SO MUCH BETTER. I don't feel like I'm constantly fatigued, and I've been able to do loads of spring cleaning after a full work day. I was cleared to start resistance training, so in addition to walking for 30 minutes 5x a week, I'm incorporating 2-3x a week of resistance workouts. They're small right now, and not very intense (10 minutes tops), but I like to think it'll still benefit me. 😅 Thank you to everyone who's been replying to me. I really appreciate it!
  8. I feel the exact same. I was on a 30 day pre-op diet and lost 18lbs. I was sleeved on 03/20 and have only lost 10lbs since surgery. I was cleared for exercise last week so i have been doing growwithjo youtube videos. I was stalled from 1 week post op until last week with no weight loss at all. I am also at stage 3 so i can eat soft foods, during the pureed stage which started 2 days post op i just ate canned food mashed with a fork because pureed texture disgust me. Let's all hope we reach our goals sending you all lots of love ❤️

    Any April Surgery Dates?

Worried I am doing something wrong and looking for some insights. Had gastric bypass on 4/12 and over all feeling better each day. I am noticing my morning fasting blood glucose levels starting to climb. Was in the 90s in the hospital and now this morning at 124. Pre op was on trulicity 1.5 1x a week for type 2 diabetes. I still get very tired easy and am lightheaded most of the day. Have had some vision changes since surgery as well. Starting weight 231 - 4/20 today 224 which has not changed for 3 days post op weight 239 went up day after surgery and is now at 224 Started foods on Sunday with dr recommended : 3oz protein and half cup veggie2x a day or fruit 1x a day - every meal is measured and strict to guidelines. My surgeon does not allow any protein shakes or any processed food of any kind. drinking minimum 64oz water up to walking 1.5-2 miles per day

    Hurry Up and Wait!

I paid all the money. It still took 8 long months. It was during Covid, all the NHS hospitals were filled with Covid patients so many people were paying to go Private for all their surgery needs. I wanted the surgery SO badly that the waiting hurt. I have never been told that I am a patient person Had I lived in the US, my wait could have been less than a week in some cities.

    DS possible after gastric sleeve?

Yes, absolutely possible, as Catwoman suggests; indeed, many talk in terms of this as being a "completion" of the DS rather than a "revision". I don't know specifically of anyone in those states who does it - DS surgeons are still fairly few and far between, at least ones who do the "traditional" or Hess DS. The simpler SADI "loop DS" has more who do it, but that's really a distinct procedure that should be considered on its own merits. In earlier years, Dr. Rabkin in SF (who did my VSG and my wife's DS) had an active support group in the Seattle area as he had a fairly large contingent of patients there, though they have dissipated in activity, as we tend to do over time. For a DS, one should usually count on having to travel for them, even if one is in a major metropolitan area. Fortunately most DS surgeons are very used to travelling patients and are equipped to do remote consults before and after surgery, so it's mostly a trip of a couple weeks time for the surgery and everything else can be done remotely.
  13. Yes I did and truthfully, and honestly he about killed me. Tools were left inside of me. I had a leakage when I was there, and he acted like it was not a big deal but it was I was septic. I got on my plane to go back to the United States three days later, which takes longer than that for you to go in complete septic. When I got the United States, I instantly was transferred by ambulance from airport. Five surgeries later to save my life. Each one not expecting to live. Now I do not have a stomach at all and only half of my intestines and cannot get enough protein and because of that I have had a heart attacks degenerative bone disease and multiple other elements. Whatever you do, do not go to this guy. I would not say this if it was not true. Nothing can change what happened to me but at least I can let other people know not to live the life I am living. This guy should be imprisoned and never let go. And the problem is there’s nothing you can do about it because it’s a different country.

April 25th is my RNY date! Buddies?!

April 25th here... still powering through the 2 week preop liquid only diet... Tuesday can't get here fast enough. I made the mistake of eating half of a small salad (it's my birthday for goodness sake)... and I'm paying for it, bigtime. Back to the liquids... lesson learned

    April surgeries

My surgery is tomorrow. I’m excited and a bit nervous. I got a chicken Protein Powder and mixed it with home made Bone Broth and omg that has really helped with the cravings. I do one strawberry or banana Protein Shake for Breakfast. For lunch I mix the chicken Protein powder with the broth. I don’t do much for dinner. But throughout the day I  drink some of the Gatorade protein zero Water and also just Gatorade zero or Powerade zero. My pre-op diet was for two weeks and it was just liquids. My staring weight was 231 and I’m at 210 now and my surgery is tomorrow.

    frustrated, stalled, and lost

Often when you stall you do need to up your calories, for a day or two! I’d definitely follow your dietitians recommendations. I also get positional lightheadedness - I have not been doing weights for this reason but am able to tolerate stretching and cardio including walking and jogging. It might be something to consider!
  17. Today was my 2-week post op appointment and it went well. My incisions healed nicely and have minimal pain, except on the far right. Initially that worried me but was I assured the pulling sensation and stinging was normal. (A deep stich was placed there.)    Also down 13 pounds post op :)

I was cleared to exercise more and now on soft food phase. I started today with one large egg whipped with a bit of skim milk then scrambled and topped with small amount of shredded cheese. It tasted good but no restriction or feeling of fullness.  Lunch was 1/4 cup of low-fat cottage cheese with 1 slice of a canned peach. Again, no restriction. I'm starting to wonder....

Full liquid was understandable since it flows right through so surprised me that I felt nothing eating solid food. But....it's day one so...

    November 2022 surgery support!

Almost at 5 months and officially 50 lbs to goal weight. Have been following my exercise regime and feel more toned. Clothes that I had saved from many years ago are loose, I may need new clothes for my vacation next month or will use safety pins to wait it out until mid summer. Feeling confident and energetic so booked a few activities that I wouldn't be willing to do prior to surgery. Increased my calorie a little bit since I'm lifting heavier this week but stay within 800 calories.

  20. I have the same issue. I had my surgery 3/13, five weeks post op and my abdominal incision on the right side is still giving me a hard time. If I twist, reach or turn a certain way it can go from burning to stabbing. My team said it’s not unusual for this to happen, can take six months to completely heal. I’m 41 so I thought it would go faster… nope! Guess he got me in “just” the right spot 😂 I bought an abdominal binder and that really helped! Take it easy and let others give you a hand if you can. 🤗

    Hurry Up and Wait!

I chose a doctor who specializes in this - and only this - with an entire team in his practice dedicated to the same. I was assigned a coordinator who knew exactly what we needed and when. I finished my reqs in a week and insurance approved me in a single day. My biggest hold up was the doctor going on vacation for two weeks 😂 First consult Jan 30, final appointment 2/17, surgery on March 13th. Note: based on your posts, I wouldn’t let that woman touch me with a ten foot pole unless there was no other option and even the Devil was booked solid. Good luck to you!

    Hurry Up and Wait!

So you got options. But let me start with this advice, that will help you stay sane. Do not judge others journeys against your own. You will go crazy. I finally had surgery after three attempts, I will lay out each timeline. First surgeon, Meeting in november, decided to start program in january bc I would meet my deductible and my insurance requirements, I could be done in about 8 weeks, because all I needed was one dietician appt and a physch eval. My insurance added it as a blacklisted item when the year changed over so I didn't get it. This doctor also was heavy on sleeve, and said that bypass wasn't important and he felt was overdone. Second. Was going to go to mexico. I filled out the only paper, and had a call with a coordinator in 48 hrs with approval. LIterally could have scheduled 2 weeks out, If I had the money in hand. I would have had a 14 day clear diet with them or else they could have gotten me in sooner, lol. Custody battle took my surgery money, so, cancelled. Third time the charm My surgeon was heavy bypass. And I am glad bc in my EGD they were able to see I had silent reflux and lots of ulcers. So I needed bypass regardless. I had my first appt May 2nd, and was given a list of requirements that my surgeon had, and another sheet with my insurance requirements. My Ins reqd a phych eval, a dietician clearance, and a recommendation letter. My surgeons office requires phych eval, 4 dietician classes to be completed 1x a week while on preop diet, 1 dietician meeting a month prior to start preop, EGD, and if needed based on medical records cardio and EKG. I left the appt on May 2nd with my EGD appoint, that was 6 ish weeks out, mid June. I didn't understand that I was supposed to make the phych appt, so that was kinda stalled, but they sent everything to insurance for approval in mid august. I started the 1 month preop labor day weekend and had surgery Oct 3rd. But insurance companies can require things that will make it longer, esp if they require a supervising diet.
  23. It probably took about 4-5 days for them to stop hurting, but what was the worst, was that they itched for about 2-3 weeks. After 6-8 weeks, none of my incisions were tender anymore.
  24. About two or three weeks ago, I noticed at the gym while doing the hip abductor machine that my thighs/knees can touch without the machine being engaged. I was surprised and it made me smile.
  25. Misty Marie

    Hurry Up and Wait!

Sounds like you should be looking for a different job! Working with difficult people is so stressful. Because I turned 50 a couple of weeks ago, I have to have an EKG before I can do the surgery. The dietician was booked out two months, so I have to have 3 months of a diet/exercise record with my primary before I could do the surgery or even schedule the dietician. I have my last doctor's appointment next week and my psych eval as well, so just waiting... waiting... waiting. I teach middle school, so I could see my students being in one of two camps... either totally supportive, or nasty about it. Next year, they will see the weight drop, but I am not going to say a word to them. My daughter heads off to college where I just applied to teach as a distance learning professor. I want to move where she is attending so I can get a full-time teaching position at her university. However, at my weight, I am worried they will dismiss me because I am too heavy. I cannot even comfortably sit in a theater chair and do not fly at all, which I would need to be able to do.
