Ended Up In Er Yesterday On Vaca..... And
MamaT posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
no one knew what a sleeve was! They had to google it! I was having terrible chest pain/ abdominal pain that got so bad that I couldn't take te pain anymore so hubby took me to the local ER. We r vacationing down in the Jersey shore. when I got to the ER, the triage nurse asked for my history, and I told her I had a VSG, and she looked at me like "what?" I explained to her the basic premise of the procedure & why I had it and she still looked a little perplexed. I was in so much pain at that point I didn't care i she got it or not.. I just needed some pain relief!! (2 doses of dilaudid and I was still in pain... Stoned, but in pain lol) The ER doc knew what the sleeve was (thank God) and he thought this was unrelated but they did a ct scan just to make sure there was no issue. When the next nurse came to me, she asked if I had any problems since my bypass, and I explained to her also what the sleeve was (I was so drugged on dilaudid that hubby had to tell her towards the end of the story lol) . Then a 3rd nurse asked me of the band may have slipped and AGAIN I explained that I didnt have a band. Uuuugh. my Final diagnosis was "gastritis". They think I have an ulcer in my esophagus. I can assure you that I have become very close to my esophagus and sleeve, and this pain was no where near that. It was the worst pain I ever experienced and I pray that it never comes back. I am going to see my surgeon next week and will make an appt with my GI when he can see me. In the meantime I told the ER staff to look at my ct scan and see the sleeve and what it looks like. I was surprised that no one knew what it was! Sorry for the novel lol -
meat? I'm pre-surgery and my sister in law's sister had a bypass 20 years ago and to this day she cannot eat meat of any kind! I love meat, I would like to hear from any of you that can or cannot eat meat. I'm especially a steak eater. I realize I won't be putting away anymore 16 oz ribeyes!

Surgery date 11/30/17.....its getting real!
FluffyChix replied to toby585's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gosh I totally get it. I have been going through my head for the last week or 2 (since my last RD appt). Yesterday I saw the surgeon and she's like...well hell! She said I had my 3 visits from the RD and she was gonna submit me for approval. We chose the surgery and wrote it in blood. Killed a newt and took its eye. Ripped out a lizard tongue and drew a pentagram on the floor. So I'm pretty sure this is a done deal. LOL. And I am scared. On the way home I asked my self if I REAAAAALLLYYYY thought I would lose the rest of my weight on my own. Why would it be any different than the other eleventy billion times I've tried and failed. What would make it happen this time. What would make keeping it off a reality? Why wouldn't I just regain it all again plus the requisite 10-15%? The only answer I could come up with involved magic or voodoo. Since I'm a good Catholic girl, I just figured I need to sac up and get my head, as*, and tummy in the game. (I had to "borrow a pair" to sac up...but you get the idea.) The reality is that the ONLY way I'm gonna be successful is to do something different this time. I think "that something different" is gonna have to be the RNY surgery. It just is and I have to get right with the Lord about that one. *sigh* So now I'm in a waiting game. I "think" what's gonna happen is that I will get approved maybe in the next 2-3 weeks. Then my family vaca at Wurstfest that the surgeon knows about...then that Monday I would start the liquid diet. I think that means I will be in surgery (she only operates on Tuesday) on November 28 or December 5 and this sh*t is gonna be a reality... So maybe we can get "the band back together" and be November surgery buddies. I just don't know if I'm jinxing things and jumping the gun by thinking it's gonna be November OR December. You know? What are you doing to prepare your mental game for the "big show?" -
I was already at a crossroads when I learned of the band (only a few months ago). I had been on every diet you could think of and each had failed and I was looking down the road to a certain early death. The thought of bypass was tickling my mind, but somehow I just knew it was wrong for me. Then I heard about lapband and did some research and knew it was the right decision to make. Extreme, yes. Worth it, you bet (I can confidently say that and I haven't even been banded yet). The cost, it's only money, how does one compare it to one's health? Luckily, my insurance will pay, but I was certainly prepared to self pay in Mexico. I will be banded come hell or high water!!!

Hey Pam congrats on the weightloss so far. I am also in Mesquite and also just had my lap band done from Dr.Powell in Richardson on November 1st. So far can't get much down without feeling so full and needing to constantly hiccup or burp. I did get out and walk the dog today so that felt good with our nice weather. I didn't do so well on the pre-op but still lost some none the less. The Myocel they gave us was horrible until I found some sugar free choco syrup to go into my smoothie machine with it. Let me know how you progress, I am beginning to think I will never be able to eat a real food at this point... Kim

Hey there!!! I am 30 & have just started the journey as well, but for the Gastric Sleeve. I am so excited/anxious with this decision. My mother had Gastric Bypass & has gone from 350 to 145 in a little over a year. I am currently at 230 & hoping to be back to my old 150 self with the help of this surgery. I would LOVE a journey buddy too. I am a cash pay patient so I'm currently working on saving the funds. -
Hello, I am looking for people with the band who reside in the Los Angeles, Carson, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, etc.... I was banded at Kaiser in Harbor City and they have a support group that meets once a month, but mainly for Gastric Bypass patients. I would like to establish a support maybe either online or in person for the other girl I know how has the band from Kaiser. If anyone is interested please let me know by responding. Thanks

Los Angeles Bandster looking for others
BrendaLH replied to BrendaLH's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Everyone, I have not heard from anyone regarding the meeting I was planning for this Saturday, soooooooooooo I just wanted to let everyone know that I will plan another one in the future. My mother-in-law is actually getting worse so were all on standby just in case. They have increased her pain medication 4 times in one week so its just a matter of time. I will try and set up something for possibly the end of the month. Also, I do attend a support group that is sponsored by Kaiser on the second Tuesday of each month in Harbor City. If anyone would like to attend its at 6:30 til 8:00. It would be nice if there were more lapband attendees because most of the people have the gastric bypass. Let me know if anyone wants to attend. Take care and best of luck to all of us trying to reach our goals!!!:tt2: -
Hi Lisa!! Welcome! Congrats on getting approved for everything. Scheduling your surgery for Mid-November may be complicated. Especially with Thanksgiving. you are going to need a good 6 weeks of being on a strict diet. That is why I waited until after the 1st of the year. That way I could concentrate on what I needed to be doing and i didn't get distracted about all the goodies that come out around the Christmas time. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!!

I don't have an exact date set either but we think mine will be in November as well. Very excited to do this but have a few fears - like if I succeed or fail. Been on so many weight loss programs in the past & have failed .... I am also trying to slow down on eating & working on portion control. My biggest problem right now is I am a Dt Mtn Dew junky & am trying to break away from the habit. I've been trying to drop a bottle each week & I have reached the week without any - can't figure out how to wake up in the morning!!!!! -
So Confused And Slightly Frustrated About Supervised Diet.
SumPsychChic posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
Okay, I had my first appointment at Emory on October 23. My insurance requries a 3 month supervised diet. I go back to the surgeon on November 26, which is about a month after the first visit. That means one month is done with the diet, two more to go. That means at December 2x appointment, I will finish month two and January 2x appointment, I will finish month three. At that point, I should be able to send off insurance information and have surgery shortly after, sometime in February or early March.. BUT why are people telling me that a 3 month supervised diet actually means 4 months? And why did the front desk lady say that my supervised diet doesn't start until my second appointment? -
Has anyone ever had days when nothing stayed down and then the next day be fine? I had this with the lap band, but did not expect it with the bypass! I am 8 weeks out....WTH??

Hi, I'm new to viewing and posting on web sites. I am leaving tomorrow for Fresno, California for my pre-op visit before I get my lap-band on Friday 11/07/08. I am very nervous. I have a real pain/surgery phobia and I researched this for many, many months before deciding to go ahead with this procedure. I actually backed out of Gastric Bypass surgery 3 years ago because of my intense fear of pain and vomiting which goes along with the surgery (I'm told):smile2: Anyway, I have severe arthritis and I have had increased pain in my right knee for quite some time. It is definitely related to my weight, but I need a knee replacement and the surgeons want to wait until I have the lap-band before going ahead with that one. Taking weight off first will help with the new knee. I am "bone-on-bone" - in other words no cartilege left. I have tried Hylgan shots, cortisone shots, acupuncture, and heavy meds. Nothing helps. So, I hope to help myself by losing some weight quickly and then scheduling knee replacement. I wish I could calm down about the issue of pain, but it is always in my mind. Besides the anticipated pain from the surgery and excess gas, I need pillows under my knee and lots of meds to even sleep a little bit here at home.:wink5: How will I be able to handle getting out of a tall hospital bed and walk around the room when I can only hobble around (sometimes with a cane) in the best of circumstances??:tongue2: Does anyone have any suggestions for someone who is older than the average lap-band patient and with arthritis? Thanks a lot. I hope to hear from others in my situation about this soon.

Hello everyone! I've decided to have the lap band surgery probably in October or November of this year -- Statesville, NC. I have found out that my health insurance will pay 90% of the cost. I've been "dieting" my way up to 267 lbs and I'm finally fed up. This is it. I've already been to an information session and everything....this is the right thing for me to do. I just wanted to say "hello" and sort of introduce myself. I'm 40 years old. I have 2 kids -- 19 and 9 and I've been dating a wonderful (supportive) guy for 1 1/2 years now. I want to lose the weight for me. I'm tired of being tired....if that makes any sense? :-) I look forward to hearing any feedback you may can share with me to sort of ease my nervousness about all this.

My program says that I do not have to take a B12 supplement daily however a Calcium and multivitamin both twice a day. In my program booklet they put together it says B12 is needed for the sleeve and Gastric Bypass. Does anyones doctor for the Lap band suggest B12? Do you take it anyway?

Please allow me to introduce myself...
medmgr replied to Geeewhy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welome and you gotta finish the statement "Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste" - always loved the Stones! I may not be a man of wealth - taste has been very important in my life, and that is why I am here also - lol. Know what you mean on the the pride stuff - up until my surgery 11 days ago, I would do 65 minutes on the elliptical machine at the gym, but if I did not diet - weight would still creep on till I was at a BMI of over 50. I was so embarrased about having WLS, I told as few people as possible that I was having surgery - and only 4 people (wife, mother, daughter and a freind who had gastric bypass) what the surgery was. The truth of the matter is - I do not think "normal" people have ever been as hungry as I got on a daily basis. While I am in a tough situation right now in my recovery (liquid diet phase w/ dumping syndrome - which is rare for sleeves, but not unheard of) - I still think I made the correct decision, just counting the days till I can start having pureed foods so I can get some decent protien. Good Luck and welcome aboard! -Kevin -

Gosh we’re so much alike. I read your other post about the fear. I’m going in this morning for my revision VSG to bypass. I was fearless for my sleeve but wide awake worrying right now. I too am worried that I’ll only lose 10-20 pounds. -
