  1. ljm - Thank you for the photos. I have been watching your progress since early January. You gave me the confidence to go forward with my own TT. I got insurance approval yesterday. I am scheduled to have the TT on April 18th. I am very excited. My PS said that there may be some concern with the gallbladder scar. May have to revise later, or something like that. Yours didn't have any concern? Mine looks like a zipper. I never knew that it was called that.

    Insurance

I just got mine today and Aetna 72 hours for lapband to Gastric Bypass Revision.
  3. Good to hear! Hopefully someone might have some experience, but you might also try Obeisity help for the revision forums there as they are more likely to have people who have done a revision.
  4. hola peeps! I'm 35 yrs young. from Idaho. anyone else from the western states? I have my seminar today. ready to soak up information. I was set in the lapband 100% but after reading so many horror stories of it, I have revised my decision to the sleeve.

VSG to RNY still have GERD

Hey All, Interesting thread. I have constant heartburn and had a VSG in 2016. If you had it to do over would you still get the RNY revision? I am wondering if its worth it if you get the heartburn anyway and are still constantly taking the PPI's?
  7. So it been almost 9 months since my revision to RNY from VSG. I had erosive esophagitis D and as of this past Dec it has gone down to an A. I still take Dexilant 60 mg and as I sit here typing I am on fire !!! Just wondering if anyone else is still going through this after being revised. I take the strongest PPI available that I am aware of but I shouldnt have to be on this PPI after the revision but here I am !

    Waiting game...

It'll be quicker than you think! It only took my insurance 5 days to respond for my revision surgery. When is your anticipated surgery date?
  9. I am getting a revision next Monday. I had what I believed to be an Allergan band placed in 2006. Well I have had a slip and the doc wants to replace it (the port is fine). He was going to just change it out for a Realize band but at my pre-op appt he asked me what I wanted. 1. Replace the allergan band and reattach the old port. or 2. Put in a Realize band and new port. Originally I thought I should just go with the 1st option, seems less painful(less stitches) and I'm not a doctor but a lower risk of infection maybe?? Now I am having second thoughts....I have read up on both bands and don't really see a difference..should I just stand by my decision or call and have it changed?

    Depressed Help!

I had my band for 4 years after having issues and problems( toxic silicone syndrome) my doctor suggested I remove it and revise to gastric sleeve. The day of surgery I backed out on the sleeve because it's irreversible and I was afraid I would have the same symptoms of the band. I removed the band 3 weeks ago and can't eat much I have been in liquids and mostly protein diet. I keep getting stuck with regular food. I lost around 13 pounds. But I have been so depressed and been having panic attacks with anxiety attacks. Don't know why this is happening it just comes on uncontrollably. My body is reacting so weird. Had this happened to anyone? If so, please give me insight will it go away or what's causing this?

    Making Beef Bone Broth

So, I've posted comments about making broth-bases in a few threads. This is a correction/ revision to what I've posted about making beef broth from bones. I posted that I don't skim the fat off the broth after boiling, because there's a negligible amount per serving in the finished product (Soup or au jus) if you make a big vat. It's been a long time since I've made beef broth, so I thought since I've been posting about it and it's that time of year, I'd make some. I do save and freeze steak bones and when making beef broth from these bones, it's true, the total fat is negligible per serving when making big vats from these. Since I don't eat that many steaks and my household has shrunk with the kids on their own, there's just not enough bones to make beef broth with- so I buy marrow bones. *HERE'S THE CORRECTION: I'd forgotten, marrow bones do have a LOT of fat that leeches into the broth. I definitely recommend skimming off the fat at the end of beef marrow-bone, broth-production, before freezing. Sorry if I misled anyone. It wasn't intentional.
  12. I just had port revision done a little over a week ago and got a fill that same day. After my fill I noticed that I had decent restriction throughout the day but after 4 days the restriction seemed to lighten up. Was I just swollen or did the band just need time to settle down from surgery or my fill? I still get tight every morning but after lunch my restriction seems to fade. What gives?
  13. Hi all! I was banded back in 2003, and it took me 2 years to reach my goal weight. Then came the great lap band slippage of 2005. I went for the corrective procedure and was told all was well, since then I have had nothing but trouble - I've regained 60lbs and can't seem to loose any of it. It's as though EVERYTHING I eat causes me to gain weight - even though my diet consists mostly of veggie Soup (cause its about all I can keep down) and I wake every night choking on reflux, not to mention the constant pain at the port site. So today i went back to my surgeon and as suspected, the band has slipped again. I've discussed my options with Dr.D and have decided the best plan for me is to remove the band and have the revision to a sleeve. Dr.D tells me that I have to remove the band, wait 3 months for my stomach to relax then have the sleeve done. I've tried to argue with him re; the 3 month rest period but considering he is the surgeon, and I have no idea about surgical matters, I didn't get very far in my attempts to get him to do the removal and sleeve in one surgery. Has anyone had the same experience - Band out, few months wait then sleeved? I'm so worried about the weight gain in those 3 months - can anyone share their story? Did you gain weight? How rapidly? Or how did you maintain your weight loss over that time? I'm not going to lie, this is terrifying me - so I thought I'd reach out to fellow banders for support!

    antacids?

I took one tums. I while I was waiting for their office to open. I'm allowed to have tums occasionally, but if I'm finding I need them more than once a day I have to call their office on Tuesday to go on protonix as well. Im a revision from a band, so protonix and I ho back 7 years, as do my surgeon and I. I've already had 3 hospital stays dince the bypass. So they do keep on top of things.
  15. Last year I almost died from my Lapband aspirating into my lung... I spent 3 weeks in ICU... I got a complete unfill and I still get sick on a daily basis.. How can I get my insurance to pay for a revision? I been banded since 2008 and I feel like this band is going to kill me! ????

how fast is the weight loss?

Oh my dear, it's so variable! I'm 4 months post and down 45, I seem to be losing slow compared to most on here but I have no problems with any food and I feel great so I'll take it! I'm 5'6, started at 255, shooting for 150, currently 210. I am a revision from a lap band and was warned revisions tend to lose slower... I highly recommend not comparing our journey to others though,it'll drive you crazy!!!!! Good luck!!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 210

Recovery from band to bypass surgery

Hello I was revised on 06-04-15. I took off 6 weeks, because my job being physical. I have lost 70lbs and still losing. I'm so glad that I was revisioned. Best decision of my life. Good luck to you and I wish you well. HW 230 SW 226 CW 154 GW 145 -150
  18. So, I just realized that today is my 6th year Bandiversary. Wow! I can't believe it. Life changed so much in the past six years. Got married, had two babies... and am about to deliver my third. Up until this pregnancy, I had maintained 65 pounds out of a 95 pound loss with absolutely no fill. Prior to being Banded, I had never lost more than 17 pounds... and that involved being at a vegan ultra low-fat spa for a month. (Gained it back in two weeks.) I was never the person who lost a lot of weight, and then gained it back and then some. I was the person who never lost more than 5 pounds. The person who never felt full until I had my Band. I've had some trouble with trying to refill my Band post pregnancies... but other than that, nothing negative. No reflux, slips, erosions, etc. Band looks the same as it did six years ago on the x-rays. I'm going to try to refill again after this pregnancy... so we'll see. In about six months, I'll see where I'm at. I may go back to my normal setpoint, -65 pounds with no fill. Fills may work, and I may be less. Or I may be pretty much where I am now. If I decide to go with a revision, I'd probably go with a VSG. But, right now, I'm doing a wait and see.

    losses four pounds

If they are just going in to do some type of port revision surgery, it is nothing compared to the lapband surgery itself. My port flipped, so I had to have revision surgery. I was in and out in no time, and there is minimal pain afterwards. I didn't require any type of pain medication. Hope everything works out for you.
  20. Hello fellow bandsters, I have been off the boards for a while, been so busy with work, but hope to be back as a regular now, I need you guys and have missed you all. Latest on me. I had my revision surgery on February 26th,2005 yeehaw!:banana and have lost a grand total of 138.5 pounds to date. I am scheduled for my first adjustment or "fill" on April 26th. I realize that is way later than normal for a first adjustment but my surgeon felt like we needed to wait a while and allow my stomach swelling to go completely down and for me to get healed up after the second band placement. I am so exctied to say the insurance did pay for the second band and Praise the Lord for that! (happy dance in progress):banana:banana:banana:banana:banana I have been kinda bummed out lately though cause I need my adjustment as I am back on regular food and I am able to eat way more than I should. Have to keep telling myself to eat the bandster way when you are SATISFIED, not necessarily FULL!!! I just have to make a conscious effort to watch it and that is why I have not lost any more. I also have got to get going on the exercise and Water intake again too. I feel like a failure as I have not been being very good lately in my snacking etc. I am sharing with you my goals now I need to lose 80 more pounds and here is what I plan to do to make it happen: 1. Be on this board daily as I need the support DAILY!!! 2. Drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. 3. Exercise 30 minutes (at least) every day. 4. STOP SNACKING BETWEEN MEALS!!! (those one or two bites of sugar free candy and sugar free icecream and sugarfree Cookies make a difference!!!) 5. Last and most importantly PRAY for guidance from above. Please pray with me as I start the second part of my journey. I need your support. You guys are great thanks so much for letting me vent.
  21. Hi everyone, I was a low BMI bandster. I had good weight loss success with my band, but it has been a journey. Fills, unfills, episodes of being so tight I had to have an immediate unfill, etc. About 6 months ago I started having symptoms associated with a slip and the upper GI tests I've had done definitely show a slip. My choices are: remove lap band (which is not what I want to do), reposition lap band, or revise to a sleeve or bypass. I work for one of the largest health care providers in the St. Louis area and my insurance will cover a revision, but only with a provider in their network. Guess how many bariatric providers there are in the network? 2! One is the surgeon who did my lap band and he only does lap band. The other surgeon is currently not doing revisions and won't be for potentially another year. I could go to another surgeon and do self-pay, but that seems crazy to go through that again. I was self pay for my lap band surgery because my BMI was not high enough and I just recently paid all those bills off. I am also leery of the sleeve surgery because it is so permanent. Lap bands can always come out. I feel like the decision is being made for me. I prayed for assistance making this decision and all arrows are pointing me this way. Has anyone had success after a lap band slip, then reposition? I am worried about it happening again in another three years.

Why You Lose Hair After Surgery

My hair thinned about 3-4 months after I had the lapband. It finally grew back and I just revised to bypass. I'm dreading the day when I start losing more hair in the shower

    Pressure and Bloat

When I did my pre-op for my VSG I had loose stools and was gassy. When I did my pre-op for my VSG to RNY revision I was constipated and bloated even with the same diet. Some people experience loose stools and lots of gas with a mostly or all liquid diet. Just depends on your body and how it wants to handle things. Hang in there, the loose stools and gassiness didn’t last forever for me, just a few days so hopefully the same for you!

    Feeling Let down

Sorry you are feeling let down. However I am sure that the surgeon has your best interests at heart. Surgery is dangerous and the higher your BMI the more dangerous it is . A BMI of 68 is extremely high.Far better to lose the weight prior to surgery than to die from complications on the table. It is also normal in the US to have to undergo a 6 month supervised diet prior to undergoing surgery . This proves to the insurance company that you are serious and have tried your best and are not just looking for a quick fix. you are not the first person i have heard of that has to do a 4 week preop diet. The purpose of this part of the process is to help shrink the liver. When you are obese the liver is enlarged and fatty. If it is not reduced in size prior to surgery you run the risk of having to have open as opposed to laparoscopic surgery or of it getting damaged during surgery which is highly dangerous. If your Dr suggested a bypass you need to find out why do not just dismiss his suggestion out of hand.Yes there are some Dr's that push bypass because it is their preferred surgery but your Dr may feel that a band would not suit you. With weight loss surgery there is no one size fits all - different surgeries suit different people depending on their types of eating.Bands are generally recommended for people that eat large quantities but do not have as much of an issue with sweets. bypasses are recommended where it is felt that malabsorption is also required. There is another option - the sleeve.I have even heard of people having a bypass and a band combined. Price should not be your deciding factor when choosing a surgeon. I understand that it is important but it is more important to choose an experienced surgeon that has done lots of the procedure that you choose and that has a good track record. Their are countless horror stories of things going wrong when using a cheap or inexperienced surgeon. That is not to say that all surgeons offering cheap surgery are bad but you do need to be careful. This board is a great place for you to vent, get support and do research.Read some of the threads from people that had revisions from lapband to bypass to help you with your decision as well. Wishing you all the best.
