Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NSV is non scale victory. PB is when food won't go down so it comes up. It stands for productive burp. Sometimes it's just a burp and food comes with it. I have had regular old throwing up when I was too tight. Luckily, I don't have that problem anymore. -
congratulations!!! thats Great news and a real success and NSV!!! i know thats gotta be a relief!

Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story?
Dooter replied to Birdy18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I expected all the worst, and got all the best! The first 24 hrs. after surgery was rough because I was STRICT NPO, not even a single ice chip! That made me gag a few times. After that it was all uphill. They want us to sip an oz. of Fluid every 15 minutes after that first 24 hrs. Well, in a couple of days I was doing FOUR oz. every 15 minutes, and my pain was well managed by the meds prescribed. (I had a pretty good sized hernia repaired, so that caused some discomfort.) My healing progressed in a textbook fashion and I've not had a single complication (Thank you GOD!!) And I can eat any and all foods without problem or pain, and I've not thrown up once since surgery, and I've never "slimed." This could not have gone any better. I'm just amazed every day. I've lost almost 85 lbs. since February. I've got absolutely nothing to complain about. One thing I've noticed around here- aside from the "NSVs" we never really report when we "feel good." It doesn't seem that interesting or require a response. Most people post when there is trouble, or can wear a smaller size pants. We just don't think to say, "hey, by the way, I had a really non-complicated surgery." And maybe we should, just so all you noobs can see that it's not just doom and gloom in your future. I think there are a great number of us who had a terrific experience. Hopefully you'll hear from more.... -
A crazy NSV

Hahaaa!!! Truly awesome isn't it??? Thanks girlie!! This is so very very true. You hit the nail on the head, because being obese we carry more weight on our shoulders than we do on our whole bodies. Our lives, the air we breath, our every thought is consumed by being heavy. I know that feeling too well wondering if that chair with the sides is going to be able to work on my giant frame. Or if I step on a step stool, will it break underneath me??? - that kind of thing. It's so sad and is becoming more a memory for me every day - but I still find myself thinking like this from time to time. I have to remind myself, that yes - I can fit in those tiny seats at the sporting event and all that kind of stuff... and believe it those seats are tiny!!! Now I'm fitting in them with even a little wiggle room. It's pretty cool. I do really love this NSV because for once in about 20 years, I'm actually being considered of normal size. I never imagined I would be here already barely 6 months out when I was looking up at those lights getting ready to take a deep nap and wake up with no stomach (and no band! ). Cheers!!! -
A crazy NSV
LilMissDiva Irene replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yes it's true, I've been Up and Down with my weight for the last almost 20 years. I've never been thin as an adult, only since being a young teenager, then shortly after I got married and stopped doing things to keep myself thin. I gained that weight pretty quickly. You do have a lot to look forward to, and that's a lot less of you. NSV's are my favorites. The scale going down is nice, but I'm telling you, it's the little things that keep reminding me that I'm doing mighty fine. Good luck!!! -
I have both scale and NSV today! 40 pounds down as of this morning. So excited! For NSV... I performed at a show last weekend and for once I didn't hate my pictures. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm lookin like a fool with my pants on the ground! Hey, I was so excited about new found restriction after my second fill that I forgot to post about my first big NSV. Well, I knew my jeans were getting loose, but on Sunday I realized they were getting WAY too loose as I kept having to hike them up in public (which I'm sure looks ridiculous). I gave 'em a test to see if I could pull them on and off without unbuttoning them and sure enough I could so I figured it was time to start wearing the next size smaller jeans in my closet. And, let me tell you I feel so 'skinny' in these jeans. I have been wearing them every day since Sunday and plan on wearing them again today. The funny thing is that at some point, I had considered these now smaller jeans my 'fat jeans'. I remember I had gained weight and vowed not to gain anymore (yeah right!) so I only allowed myself to buy Target jeans. I mean why would I want to spend money on jeans I would only be wearing briefly? Ugh! So, now I get to wear them again. And, I have three pairs of these Target jeans (two medium wash, one dark dark wash) so how can I justify needing a different pair in this size??? I guess I better just speed through this size because I know I have at least one cute pair in the next size down. LOL Not that these are ugly, but they just aren't cute (going out) jeans. Sometimes I think I am the weirdest fat woman because it never bothered me to buy new fat clothes. So many people say they HAVE to throw out their fat clothes so they CAN'T gain weight again. But, for me, I love buying clothes so every time I have lost OR gained, I've bought more and more and more clothes. I am really trying hard not to purchase too many new things this time as I lose through the sizes again, though. I've got so many clothes (only 1-2 years old) in every size. I did splurge and buy two new tops from Lane Bryant online, though. They had some really pretty (dressy) tops from the Icon collection (normally $98) on clearance for $12. I ordered them on the small side so hopefully one of them will fit for my friend's wedding on 4/2. Normally I would not wear pants to a wedding, but I feel like such a cow in a dress right now. And, this is a second wedding and my friend is young and very casual. So, I'm thinking black dress pants (which I just happen to have in a smaller size right now) and one of these dressy tops might make for a pretty outfit without dropping a lot of $$$. OK, I am getting off on a tanget now, but gotta mention one other great NSV I had on Monday. My inlaws were on their way over so I was doing my normal run-around-and-try-to-straighten-the-house-as-quickly-as-possible routine. I've got a 4 and a 6 year old so this usually involves a lot of huffing and puffing and straining to pick all their stuff up off the floor. But, you know what I noticed???? Picking stuff up off the floor is getting a lot easier. I don't feel like my head is gonna pop off anymore when I'm doing this. And, I swept all my floors in just 15 minutes and usually that takes me a lot longer. Woohoo!!! This is the everyday stuff that really matters when it comes to feeling good.

Janine, NSV is a Non-Scale Victory... Small or big steps in our journeys that can't be measured on a scale! Margaret

Way to go Metal and Lizrbit!! WOO HOO! I also love to read people's NSV's. Well, alright, I'll share one. I've been on the thread "Couch to 5K", and decided to give it a try. Yup, I'm running (sort of). I can't say I thought I'd like to run (I used to sprint in High School MANY years ago). But After finishing Week 1, I really do enjoy it. Look it up. You start off really slowly, alternating walking and slow jogging. For instance week 1 has you jog for 60 seconds, then walk for 90 seconds, alternating for 20 minutes. I figure I'll burn some calories, it won't cost me, and maybe I'll really like running, who knows? But that is my NSV for this week, that and my Size 12 jeans are getting loose! (The scale is not moving yet, but I don't really like this scale anyway.) What's important is how I feel and how the clothes are fitting, right? Let's hear from some more May Banders on NSV!!! Cindy

Deb24 - Yes, I feel stalled too. Just hoping the fill on Thursday will get me back on track to loosing wght again. I am tired of hovering between 180-185. It will tickle me to death when I get in the 170's and stay there for a while! Sue - Way to go. I am so happy for you. You had so many NSV's while on your vacation. You are a inspiration! Jenney - Hello. sorry about the band problems. Wow, that was a new one on me. Never heard of something like that happening. I am trying to be so much more careful with my band now. I used to not mind PBing because I thought that I was getting rid of calories. After what happened to Manatee - I try and keep all my food down. (His pulled back through itself i think).Any way, nice to meet you and hope you do well and get reinspired! Metal band - 64lbs is terrific. You relly don't have that far to go. I still have 30-40 to go myself. maybe we will get it done in the coming year! Melissa - Thanks for encouraging all of us. If I was as dedicated as you with the gym and water and eating right. I would have lost so much more. You inspire me too! Weazer

Hi everyone...I haven't posted in awhile but thought I would post this NSV. My wedding ring hasn't fit in awhile and I miss wearing it so I took it to have it sized. I have always had sausage fingers so I was happy when the clerk told me the size 7 sizer fit.....I used to be a 9.5! The sizer that fit looked so small. Even more exciting was while I was waiting for the clerk to do the paperwork on my wedding ring, I was looking at another ring and she asked if I wanted to look at it. She then took it out of the case and told me to try it on. Well...every ring I have ever gotten had to be sized so I was doubtful but the ring slid right on!! I almost died! Never have I been able to wear a ring out of the case. It was beautiful, but even more beautiful was that I now realize that I am shrinking all over...even when the scale is a little slow to move.

I have my 1 year apt with my surgeoun on Friday, so that will be the goal of my 5 day, to be at the best place I can be for my check in. Happy 1 year to all us aMAYzing 2007 bandsters! Sue

Great NSV there! It's so mortifying. Sometimes I will tuck both ends under my top and pretend it's latched! *shakes head* The last time I flew, I called the steward over and motioned him close to me and whispered, "Could you discreetly bring me a seat belt extension?" He was so sweet, he nodded and came back with it hidden under a note pad. Mortifying nonetheless though. A couple of weeks ago, we went to our favorite Mexican food restaurant. We always sit at one of the tables, but I'm always envious of those sitting in the cute booths in the window. When we walked in I paused by the only empty booth but decided it was probably a no go. I have a large stomach AND butt, so it may be a while before I fit there. I can wait though. And once I fit in it, I'll never have to think about it again.

I forgot to share my NSV's! First, I had to take a flight last week, which I hated in the past because I had to use these embarrassing seat belt extenders. Well guess what? This time I didn't need an extender AND I had extra room in the belt. You would have thought I won the lottery to see the look on my face! And my second non-scale victory is that I've realized I'm only 8 pounds away from my license being correct! That's a big deal for those of us who consistenly lie about how much they weigh on their driver's license... MaryumC

I still can't get my pictures to post, but my avatar picture is from two nights ago when we went out for our anniversary. NSV- My husband said we were walking to the table at Texas Roadhouse and we walked by a table and he saw some guy look me up and down. He said it was the wierdest feeling. He's not use to that, neither am I. He said it was a guy a little older than us (not some old gross dude). I was flattered!

No weight loss to report today!!! I am a little bummed because I was loosing so steady all of last week. I did NOT drink Water this weekend or focus on the Protein.....now we did go to Schlitterbaughn in Galveston (water park) and we were there all day....walked and swam so much my legs hurt by the time we got home. I do have a NSV........usally when we go to water parks, or any amusement park...by the end of the day I cant walk because I have rubbed my thighs RAW. So I have these two red blister/rash on the inside of my thighs for days. Well I had NO RAW THIGHS on Satarday and I didnt wear short.....I wore the tankini w/ the bikini and a skirt on top. Feels great.......now I just have to focus this week...and maybe I will be in onederland soon!! Sandra 255h/242s/205c/165g

Wenjea, I'm with you on the re-committment!! Of course, I just made the family a vegetable lasagna for dinner (of which I will have NONE, thank you). It does drive me crazy when the scale doesn't move, but what do I expect when I weigh myself every day. I said I wouldn't but I do!! At the end of the month it always seems like I lose at least 7 or 8 pounds, which is exactly where I should be. I just want more. I'm so spoiled. But I'm wicked happy. I love my band!! Cindy Oops, I almost forgot my nsv....I went to buy new pj's the other night, mine were too big, and guess what? I bought 3 pairs of size MEDIUM. yyyeeessss!!!! (I know pajamas probably run big, but I was so excited. I brought all larges in the dressing room and one pair of mediums for shi...s and giggles. Well, I got to giggle cuz I needed ALL mediums.

Congrats Margaret on your NSV! I can't wait until I can use regular towels I unfortunately have hit my first plateau. No real weight loss for 2 weeks and actually am up a pound despite almost daily exercise (6/7 days a week) and no days of calories over 1500 (most under 1000). SO FRUSTRATING. Makes me want to say f*** it and go eat french fries and cake. how long do these plateaus last?? I don't feel like I need a fill- I don't get super hungry between meals.. this just BLOWS. yea for everyone who is doing so well so far on the challenge! happy monday!

NSV - NSV - Major NSV........ Lastnight, my DH was watching TV. I was in the other room cleaing out my closet, because that morning I was have a real hard time finding something to wear to work. I have been inbetween sizes and some thing too big and some things just a little bit tight. I was trying on clothes, and walking the the living room and asking what did he think. The first few time he said "That looks nice" the next few times "Wow, you look great" well this went on for awile, I then I came in the room with this SIZE 12 sun dress, (it was cut down kinda low in the front), he said "Honey, you look fine........................." No more TV watching for him or trying on clothes for me..... LOL. I just love my band (and my DH) Laura

Oh! for my NSV I wore some new jeans that were NOT from the womens department . . . . no W or X on them anywhere!

Check them out if you have a Nordstrom by you. they were size 18 in the regular womens department, stretch material, five pocket jeans by Amber sun. I bought them in black on clearance so I don't remember the price but they are the most comfortable pair of jeans I've ever had on. They don't bind anywhere! Check them out especially if you are tall cuz they have long legs. My husband even said my butt looked small in them!!
