Hi all!! Just had my SG done on 10/11. I was able to lose 12lbs prior to my surgery and have since dropped 10 more. Currently eating pureed cauliflower, peas, carrots and celery mixed together and using low sodium chicken gravy to help "soup" it up some 3x a day (About ¼ cup ea. time). In-between I drink 8oz of protein whey isolate or Chicken / vegetable stock (mixed) hourly. My "before 730pm" treat is sugar-free jello. So far so good. I still use my 2 ounce containers. They come in really handy for packed lunch sauces/ mayo. Great for having in your bag for emergency food. I never go out without some protein heavy snack for when my energy levels are low. I put nuts in mine, great for quick grab snacks. I never needed bigger tubs, just used my own Chinese rice bowls

Not having heart burn or cough and able to have those soups yesterday then it's not to night ur just swollen. Am I weird?
Arabesque replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only told my mum, one brother & sister-in-law, & one friend (she was my transport😉) at first then slowly let other friends know. There are still some who don’t know. One because she’s always been very competitive with me so there was no way I was telling her. She thinks I went to a dietician which is partially true. I didn’t tell my other brother because I knew he & his wife would be very judgemental. When I first started losing he congratulated me & was supportive but then he found out about the surgery & has never said another word. His silence was damning in itself. Though at least I haven't had to put up with his criticisms…. probably because it’s been successful so far. I find it easier to tell strangers about the surgery than those I know & the strangers have all been quite positive & inquisitive. When I had my gall surgery last year I had to explain why I needed to make changes to the menu options. Afterwards several nurses come in to ask about my sleeve & experience which was unexpected. Wonder if family & friends have the potential to be most vocal about their negative (& often uneducated) opinions because they believe they have the right to tell you you’re doing the wrong thing & feel they have to ‘save/protect’ you from a such a terribly bad decision. -
I’m at 7 weeks, 40 lbs down since starting my pre-op diet and 26 lbs since surgery. Finding it tough to hit the fluid/protein goals. Restriction is no joke. My doctor encouraged me to exercise as much as possible. I feel like I’m perpetually dehydrated. Hope everyone else is doing great!

Libby- I struggled with food staying down. I had to stay on liquid and slops longer. The most I can have in one sitting is 150ml. This helps. I’m on soft diets still. I also am on medication I take before I eat to help. shorty- that is fantastic news. Glad you got to enjoy your time suzi- I have to set a time every 2.5 hrs to eat. Otherwise I don’t eat. denise- that is great news about your walking. I am managing to walk without getting worn out or feeling sore back. kiky- try senior exercises. They are low impact low mobility. I use to do these a few months before surgery. myself- my weight stalled for almost a month. But with being sick and all I wasn’t able to exercise or eat well. This last week the weight has managed to start to fall off slowly. I have lost 33pds since surgery. I’m also keeping a diary on my sleeve journey with all the food and protein, calories. As mentioned above, we have worked out my stomach intake is actually smaller then the gastric recommendation. I can tolerate 150mls. So I have to fit in another 2 feeds per day. Still on soft diets and meal prep every Sunday evening. I’m also walking an hour a day without back or feet pain. But sitting in my office for 6-7 hrs a day is hurting my buttocks.

Starting my ESG journey!
kaylee50 replied to Milena81's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hi, I am so glad to see more people here who have had or are looking into ESG! I highly recommend it. I was looking into it for a while. What convinced me to go this route was the recent MERIT study published in The Lancet. Here's a decent summary of the findings: https://www.bariatricnews.net/post/merit-rct-endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-is-safe-and-results-in-significant-weight-loss. I had my ESG on October 7th and have lost 15 pounds as of today (10 days later). Like Forensikchic, I had very little pain. My procedure was at 10:30 am, was discharged and on my way home by 1:30 pm, and basically slept the rest of the day. The next day I had some gas and nausea, for which I had zofran (which made me throw up, so no more of that tyvm!). I slept in a recliner in an abundance of caution until the 3rd night, but I could have skipped that. The procedure was Friday and I was back in the office on Monday, Day 3. Looking back, I had super low energy until I started protein shakes on Day 3. I was easily tired the entire first week, only short walks and light dumbbells / kettlebell lifts. But I was drastically better when I started the soft/puree stage (real food, bless!) on Day 7. By yesterday, Day 9, I was able to walk briskly for over an hour. This morning, I did a 5K run/walk/run, which was great. I was also able to deadlift 5x3 sets at 95 lbs (a big de-load for me) without problems because there's no cutting with this procedure. Other than having to limit my caffeine intake (UGH!!), I consider myself back at 100% as of today, Day 10. Yay! My doctor gave me a Post-Procedure Guidebook provided by the device manufacturer, but I could not find it on their website (apolloendo.com) to share. So here is a picture of the page with the summary of stages of food. See how easy? In summary, yes -- I am super happy I chose ESG. My life is such that I could not have taken the time off necessary for surgery. It was either this or nothing. I am so glad I went forward with it. -
Food Before and After Photos
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lunch was this huge salad- romaine, cucumber, tomatoes, danmuji, rotisserie chicken, smoked turkey sausage, croutons, and blueberries with a splash of balsamic vinegar. And because I knew I wouldn’t be in the mood for dinner at dinner time I made my kids American goulash with smoked beef sausage instead of ground beef. I, instead, had a glass of horchata with chocolate iced coffee protein powder mixed in. -
There is no option to use short term disability where I work. If you have enough sick and/or vacation time, you can use as much as your supervisor will approve. If you don't have any or enough, coworkers can donate time through an emergency leave bank. As a last resort, we can also borrow up to 240 hours of sick time, but that takes forever to pay back. I took 3 1/2 weeks off and it was good that I did because I ran into some complications after being released. Fortunately for me, I have a very understanding boss who knew why I was taking the time and offered to let me take more if needed.

Meats Post Surgery
foxfireari826 replied to foxfireari826's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally it doesn't seem to matter how dry or moist the meat itself is. I've even made like tuna salads and stuff and it never works out. I'll probably just try and avoid it and stick with plant based protein since that doesn't seem to make my stomach violent lol at least for the first few months and try again weekly since I can't keep throwing up everything every other day. -
Well my surgery is November 7th 2 days before my birthday lost track but I believe I will be 43 otherwise 42 LOL my doctor did not put me on a liquid diet but since I've had to quit smoking and today is my 17 day without smoking I believe I've been eating more it's very stressful I'm still doing caffeine which him not putting me on a diet makes me not want to give up smoking plus caffeine but I told my weight loss advocate that I would still like to put myself on a liquid diet a couple days prior to surgery she said it's totally up to me I just know that if I don't then there's a chance in my liver will be bigger than what they need to do the surgery and I don't want to take that chance of going in and then them saying Oh sorry we have to cancel so I'm going to try this the seminar that I have to go to prior to the surgery is November 1st that is the day we get the list of what protein drinks and clear liquids we can drink so that is the day that I'm going to start a liquid diet and hope to continue it throughout till the surgery dates I'm wishing myself luck LOL because seriously if I can quit smoking cold turkey even though it is stressful then I better be able to go on a liquid diet as well terrified for the surgery been watching all the videos of good surgeries and not so good surgeries the recovery I would suggest everybody watch the surgeries prior only to see which way you could possibly go you never know you can have an easy recovery or a not so easy recovery but at least it helps you know what to do if you have either or hopefully I can lose those at least 6 lb like one of these prior girls on here so I can make my doctor happy too thanks a bunch I love reading these forums they are very helpful

Meats Post Surgery
SHORTY_ replied to foxfireari826's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same issue. My protein mostly comes from protein shakes and I slowly eat 1st Phorm protein sticks (20g). I've never been able to successfully keep down meat since surgery Aug 2 but I still try every day. I'm hoping eventually something I'll keep down. -
Hello! Just starting my journey in the new year and wanted to start getting everything together. Did anyone use short term disability for their surgery rather than just take vacation? I have limited vacation days next year so I am trying to weigh my options. I know FMLA is an option but that has no pay, so I was wondering if anyone chose short term disability and what the process was? Thank you!

LOL, what you've said you've done makes you look like an amateur compared to me! I have 12 different calcium chews and 6 different bariatric vitamins. I stocked up on over 100 premixed protein drinks, several protein powders, grocery store foods, and dozens of different options of so called "bariatric" foods. There's no question that I went overboard, but maybe it's the boy scout coming out: I wanted to be prepared. I also didn't want to be a burden on my wife, and ask her to have to go shopping for me if I wasn't able to tolerate what we had in the house. I 100% agree with @ShoppGirl. If this is helping you feel in control, then I think it's healthy. Only you can decide if it's become a problem for you.

I had surgery on 10/11/22 (Tuesday). I work from home doing chart reviews and came back today. I have a flexible team environment so it is less daunting to get up and get fluids etc. It isn't exactly comfortable being at the desk, but manageable. If I had to go to an office out of home then I would say prep is key: water bottle with enough for the day, protein drinks (if at that stage), and any meds that might be needed for the day. If I had the time off, I would probably take a couple of days more just for my own mental healing. With that said, I can manage it with little physical discomfort.

What made you decide to have a WLS?
Afrankrn replied to omrhsn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congrats on the pending surgery! I am also a nurse and struggled with the decision for years. Despite being a nurse, I still felt determined that if I was going to do it "properly" I had to do it on my own with willpower and determination. Honestly, prior to deciding this summer that I was going to do wls, I had no idea the work that went with it. I'm now 6 days post op from gastric sleeve. I'm down 20 lbs. I feel fine with exception of struggling to get my fluid (and now protein) intake up. I know lots of people struggle for the first month though, so I am keeping that in mind and pushing through. Best of luck on your surgery! -
I don't think it's weird at all. As a server, it may be a bit of an overshare, but not weird. Unless it's maybe asking for a kid's portion etc. But things like swapping out sides or needing a box when your meal comes are pretty common requests. When I went to Disney, getting on the flight I had my sealed protein shakes with me and they were going to make me toss them all until my sister-in-law spoke up for me and explained why I needed to keep them. They made me open them all to test them and then sent me on my way. But so far that's really been the only incident I've encountered where It was necessary to explain to anyone outside my circle.

Anyone else do a VSG to ESG?
Forensikchic replied to teedsg's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I want to get back to my original goal weight which is 135. Im 5'4" tall. I stayed between 130 and 135 for almost 7 years. I slowly gained over the past 5 years til I reached 182. On surgery day, I weighed 177. My starting weight from the very beginning was 235 so we are close in stats! I have about 30 pounds to go. I just started on regular food because my doctor put me on clears for 10 days instead of 2 days and 2 weeks for each stage after that. I have a little trouble getting all the water in but its helping me not to retain so much water. My body loves to store the water that I drink, if I dont get enough for it to decide I am not in a desert. lol. Good luck with whatever dicision you make. I am rooting for you to get to goal even if you dont have a revision. I am keeping my carbs low and protein high. They say I dont have a set goal for carbs but I try to keep it under about 40. -
Anyone else do a VSG to ESG?
teedsg replied to teedsg's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Cool! Congratulations on your weight loss! This is very good information. I appreciate your update and response. How much are you trying to lose? For the past month I did a complete overhaul of my diet to do very low carb and low calorie diet, and high protein. I’m so glad I was able to lose 15 lbs. I have 35 lbs to go. I might put the surgery on hold until I can get my diet under control. I didn’t know that the bypass will cause anemia. Surprisingly, my GERD went away with the diet changes. 😃 -
I know it's normal, but it's still SUPER annoying!!
Candigrl1 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are going through this and I know it sucks. I guess I'm lucky and unlucky at the same time. My shedding has seriously decreased so I only had a short time of losing a ton of hair. But due to massive shedding in the years before surgery I see more scalp now (and I mean a lot). Its getting harder to disguise it. I wanted a cute pixie cut but scared my scalp will show so I'll be off to the hairdresser for a consult soon. The good thing is there will be new growth so all we can do is wait this out and per my Derm make sure Protein, water and Vitamin D levels are good. -
less than 3 weeks to my surgery date, Nov 3, 2022! I feel like I am over preparing!! save me from myself lol I have ordered my last batch of protein shakes (tho most of them will be incorporated into pre op diet but will have some after) and a variety of products for my liquid phase and beyond for home and to keep at my desk at work (protein shots, bariatric protein soup mix, special drink mixes etc… about $100 worth total of a variety of products to try) … also already have a list of stuff to get from the grocery store before surgery for the first two weeks or so… want to be stocked up and not have to think much also starting some nervous cleaning (which is unlike me lol) to try to make this nicer for when i get home… please tell me I am not alone with over preparing in the final stretch before surgery!!!!

Garfield1987 replied to Vicky Sue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yup. I’m having tons of tuna and chicken. About 80-90g of protein a day. Taking vitamins but still exhausted. I was cleared to work out starting this week so maybe that will boost up my energy. -
I haven't gotten to the exercise part since I'm only on day 5 post op, other than walking. My surgeon wanted us walking 2 miles 4 to 5 times a week within 3 to 4 weeks post op. After the 4 week mark, I plan on going to the gym and meeting with a trainer to get a more personalized plan. Especially while healing. Another option might be YouTube workouts that are geared towards wls? I haven't looked yet, but I think I might tonight.

Omg. That was me last night! Also day 4. I couldn't have protein drinks yet, but I had some broth and I guess it just hit my stomach funny. I told my husband that I birthed a child and died twice during the process (he was out of the house at the time). I was so sore after (from the completely INVOLUNTARY straining and cramping) that I had to take a pain pill and a Phenergan for the first time since surgery day. I had the mental breakdown today though. I'm struggling still with fluids. I could start protein drinks back today, but I can only take 2-3 sips and I feel full for like 2 hours. I'm never going to get my protein or fluids in at this rate. So I'm feeling defeated there. Then I cried when my husband brought home pizza with the kiddo. They have been super supportive, and I have sat at the table with them for a couple of days no problem. Tonight just got to me for some reason.
