    Whaddya mean no sweets?

Why no lobster? I'm allergic, myself, but my favorite meals now are shrimp, crab, scallops, etc. I eat frozen nf/sf yogurt, a small bite or two of a brownie, a Hershey kiss here and there... Difference is, I savor it instead of horsing it down without tasting it. I log it and I stay under my calories, fat and carbs. I don't recommend this if a small bite will set you up for failure, though. I didn't get fat off sweets, so these are not my downfall. You will not see me trying chips or other fatty salty Snacks. That's where my house of cards will collapse.

    Can't Get In Enough Protein

Greek yogurt and well chewed low fat mozzarella cheese sticks. Set a timer for 25-30 minutes. Eat very slowly. Don't forget no sipping with eating. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  3. I think everyone goes through the food funeral. I did this , if I wanted something like pizza for instance I made sure first of all I was not alone wth a whole pizza , invited my kids over or went to my sisters house and had one small slice and then salad. I didnt want to undue all of the good stuff I had done in the months before surgery . I didnt feel deprived and I got the taste of what ever it was that was driving me crazy....... I was also a self pay but did mine in the states, still paying on it but worth every penny. also I just made sure I had lots of good thngs to eat around the house veggies are pretty much low calorie so if I needed too I ate that instead of something fattenng. also I did parfiets made with fruit and yogurt or pudding and it always seemed like such a treat. stay strong your time will be here before you know it !!!

    super excited

I'm supposed to be on the puree stage but I can't stand it. I can't even take normal food and puree it and eat it. I'm not sure if it's in my mind or a texture thing but it makes me gag. I've tried to eat no sugar added apple sauce and couldn't get past the taste. I have some apple sauce that I canned last spring but I'm afraid to try it. I put sugar and nutmeg in it and so far the sweet stuff has a funny taste to me. I have been able to get through a pudding cup a couple times. Tried greek yogurt blended but its too sweet. I did followed the advise of someone on this board and have been making my own protein drinks with unflavored protein powder so I am getting some of those down. I really can't wait to get past all these stages and be able to eat normal food. I think I'd be a lot happier.

    Banders lingo

Sweet Spot - when the band is at optimal adjustment, which signals satiety on small amounts of food, and you do not get hungry for at least 4-5 hours. Green Zone - same as sweet spot Sliders - foods that slide through the band without sending the satiety signal. Things like milkshakes, ice cream, candy, frozen yogurt, etc. For some, popcorn is also a slider. The slider food list goes on, but keep in mind that the band does its job best with dense Protein foods.
  6. I have purchased the sistema BPA free storage system today ( I got them from Waitrose in the uk as they are on offer - half price ) for my small meals after having the sleeve. I bought 3 x 2 pots of 5.7oz containers (great for fruit and greek yogurt) - pic here but I got the bigger sizes (but still tiddily lol) drinks you need to mix http://sistemaplastics.com/products/to-go/700ml-shaker-to-go And finally http://sistemaplastics.com/products/to-go/soup-and-noodle-2-pack They are great and perfect sizes !! Hope it might interest some - Kate
  7. I had followed a low carb diet focused on fruits and veggies with lean meats, and lost some weight, but then gained and lost the same 2-4 lbs for months. Once I was approved, I was given a diet to follow that pretty much allowed all of those things, but no grains (not even oatmeal). Grains cause inflammation in the body. Then there was the two week liquid diet, that had 3-4 Protein shakes, one small green salad and one yogurt a day. I only lost 7 lbs on that one. My body, even after surgery, loses slowly. I can tell you that removing grains from your diet (and sugar) will have an effect on your weight loss. You could focus on the types of foods you will eat post-op - high protein, lean meats, veggies and fruits... which would prepare you for the lifestyle change AND help you with your weight loss goal - pre-op. Having surgery does require some discipline, and only you can decide if you are ready to take this step. But if you choose a plan and get started, you may just find it to be tolerable and well worth it. Good luck!
  8. I had my surgery Jan 8th. Loving it so far! However, still adapting to the lack of appetite. I'm STRUGGLING, but managing to get a Protein shake in, greek yogurt and Water. About 600 calories a day. I've started feeling shaky, nauseated and light headed. ALmost like i'm going to pass out. Wondering if I could have low sugar, Iron, (already struggle with low blood pressure). anyone else?

    Hungry

I follow the soft foods meal plan (stage 3), but I get hungry. One to two ounces of turkey doesn't cut it, even if it's followed by 1/4 cup of yogurt. And the "slice" of pear? I had a whole nectarine and was not uncomfortable. I'm finding myself reaching for a Protein shake or low fat string cheese to tide me over between meals. I know I'm not supposed to snack. Anyone else have this problem? Also, I'm on my 7th day of a stall. I am exercising and drinking my Water and taking Vitamins.

low carbing it? come join me

That's the stuff you have to buy online right? Can you give me the link again. I do drink at least 64 oz of water per day. Most days more. I just put some fiber one in my yogurt. I read somewhere to put it in a coffee grinder and mix it in foods. That benefiber doesn't help me either.

    I am so confused!

Too tight is exactly that, TOO TIGHT. It can ultimately mean that most of the foods you should be eating get stuck so you start eating easy (slider) stuff that doesn't necessarily get you the nutrition you need! RestlessMonkey says she can eat just about anything, but in much smaller amounts than pre-band. There's a couple of things I choose not to eat (soft bread, flour tortillas) because they get stuck often enough to not be worth the trouble and I don't need the carbs anyway. I'm sorry your doctor hasn't made sure you understand this! Basically, you have it right for the most part. The band creates a smaller stomach out of the very first part of your stomach. You should be able to eat somewhere from a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food at a meal (for me, it varies depending on what I eat .... for instance, I can eat more salad than if I ate just Protein and a vegetable). You shouldn't drink during or immediately after a meal so that you don't make the contents of your pouch prematurely empty into the lower part of your stomach. Restriction is what the band is. SATIETY is what it makes you feel. What is satiety? Satisfaction from eating. When you eat the prescribed size meal, you should feel comfortably full (not stuffed to gills) and you shouldn't feel hungry for about 4 hours or so. If you're so tight you can barely eat, then you are too tight. You can be so tight you can't even drink. If you were that tight, you'd call the doctor right away! So just remember that it's really no different if you can't really eat a meal. My doctor sais that a meal should be 3 oz of lean protein, a steamed or raw vegetable and if you are still truly hungry, to eat a single serving of a whole grain carb. At lunch, I am always still hungry, so I eat some whole grain Special K crackers. At dinner, I'm usually good with just the protein and vegetable. For Breakfast, I have been having a Protein shake just because it's convenient but I've gotten completely sick and tired of them, LOL ... and I should be! The last few days, I've been eating a serving of Greek yogurt for breakfast. It's still convenient and that's all I care about in the morning. I don't really want to have to cook a meal for breakfast. And, if you have a long stretch between lunch and dinner, as I do (I get off work at 5:30 and sometimes traffic keeps me from getting home until 7:00 or so), then you should have a small snack of pure protein. LIke a little low fat cottage cheese or a boiled egg. That way, when you are preparing your meal you don't start grazing your way through the kitchen:tt2:.
  12. Lol. Yes I though the about that later like what was I thinking, but luckily it was ok. It was actually so refreshing to have something fresh like that, so used to yogurt, Beans, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs. It was a nice change. Sent from my KFSAWI using the BariatricPal App
  13. Are you still on liquids or are you allowed to have purees now? Purees give you a lot of options, especially once you get the unflavored protein powder. My favorite purees included: Unsweetened applesauce with cinnamon roll protein powder Triple zero yogurt with chocolate, vanilla, or birthday cake protein powder Sugar-free pudding with chocolate protein powder Protein oatmeal with cinnamon roll protein powder Pureed refried beans with unflavored protein powder, topped with enchilada sauce and Laughing Cow cheese Pureed black bean soup with unflavored protein powder I also ate a lot of sugar-free popsicles, fudgsicles, and Jello in the liquid and pureed stages.

    Night time hunger

I went thru this as well. My dr. said I wasn't eating the right food for dinner if I was still hungry. I know that when I eat salmon or tuna for dinner I am so full I feel like I could bust. I have had 4 fills, the last one was in Sept. If I do get the urge to have a snack I have a cheese stick or yogurt. Good luck with that battle! I had fallen back into the snack habit bad. I am trying to avoid it as much as possible! It is a Daily battle for me.

    Pre op diet day 1

I've tried lots of different shakes and agree that the premiers are some of the better ones. However, the vanilla is kinda blah. The chocolate is really good. I also like the Chike shakes (purchase packets from their website). I find that if I make a Protein Shake using powder and frozen fruit they come out well in the blender. Using the packaged ones seem to make more foam. You'll get foam regardless, but it's less using powder. I'll use 1 scoop powder, handful of frozen fruit (choice of usually strawberries or banana or mango) and a scoop of yogurt then thin with Water. No need then for ice.

Please help debunk the protein mystery...

I know this is very confusing. Before I became a bariatric patient, I was trying to eat as naturally as possible. I am allergic to soy and the soy isolate proteins, and avoid them like the plague. Right now I use either the Premier Protein Shake or a fortified (with whey protein) greek yogurt for breakfast to start my day off with 30 grams of protein. The remaining 45 grams I get from whole foods - cheese, nuts, beans, meat etc. My doctor wants his patients to eat as much whole foods as possible to fill up our stomachs, reduce grazing and hunger and avoid stretching out the sleeve. I think there are many ways to fulfill the protein requirements and most of it takes trial and error to determine what works for you as an individual.

    What's for lunch?

Jeez guys, I haven't even had Breakfast yet, stop rushing me! lunch is likely to be either some tuna fish with a bit of Greek yogurt and shredded cheese, melted in the microwave, or a Pure Protein bar, since I'll be out running around all day today.
  21. I'll tell you what you did wrong. You should eat yogurt that is sugar free first off. Second if you ate something that disagreed with you, the last thing you should do is eat MORE food to chase it with, and peanut butter? Fat (and sugar) would just make dumping worse. Ditto with the cheese.
  22. Mmm white chicken chili sounds yummy! Yes I have had yogurt a couple of times, I can't find the strawberry cheesecake tho I love regular strawberry too so it's all good I'm starting to get nervous that I'm not getting enough to eat....I just got home from a long day and I had some protein shakes here and there, but I didn't feel like cooking any meat when I got home so I had instant mashed potatoes w some ff gravy. It was so good and all but I only ate about 2 tbsp. and I was full. This is all so new, idk what to do with myself lol

    Post op liquid diet

Not necessarily, but I wouldn't go overboard. Your stomach is healing. I stuck with Protein drinks, yogurt, and Water. I could have used crystal light to flavor the water, but I figured that it would be one less thing for my belly to worry about while healing. Im on soft foods now, and I love cooking with spices. Spice and flavoring can also have nutritional value, but watch the salt and the processed flavorings. Just my opinion. I'm new to this, so I could be wrong Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using the BariatricPal App

    what are you eating?

Pureed cauliflower is amazing! I have been using it as a replacement for mashed potatoes for over a year....long before my surgery. It is not a starchy veg, so virtually no carbs. You can add plain greek yogurt and parmesan cheese to add Protein to it, plus it will kind of taste like loaded mashed potatoes. Yummy! You're right, I misspoke. It is low in carbs. However try as I might it never taste like mashed potatoes to me. I even tried roasting it a bit before pureeing. Please share the recipe.
