    I think i hit green!

So far so good. Today I had only one meal. Bc I wasn't hungry. I had prime rib at a restaurant with my dad. Ate 1/3 maybe. That meal was at noon. It's now 6 pm and I am just now feeling hungry. So, this may not be the green zone?
  2. i did not take mine out. my dr's never said anything about it - so i thought they only meant oral bc. i didn't have any problems. surgery was 7/9.
  3. so I would pretty much just have to do two times of that? Can you taste it at all does it thicken your broth though? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App AWESOME THATS WHAT IM GETTING!!! I just finally got my lunch one down and it's soon dinner time this is horrible!!! It makes me not be able to get any other fluids in bc I get so nauseous. Thanks!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Hi all. Just curious and wondered if anyone had similar experience that could offer input. I have Anthem BC/BS Ohio. I have a leak and surgeon wants to do a port replacement. Insurance said they needed a letter of medical necessity and that was sent last week. Anyone have the same situation and if so, how long did it take to get approval. According to Anthem's website and the rep I spoke with, this is covered under my plan. Thanks for the input!

    Need help with an appeal

I hope you find a way around this problem but I think they really look at the medical conditions. Maybe you could get some help from your primary care doctor. I was a BMI of 35 with 2 health conditions. You can see my age as well which may have been a factor in getting approval I haveBC BS federal they approved me in 3 weeks I was shocked and thought I would have to fight it. I think my lap ban program director was helpful as well.
  6. I wish I could say I had, but really, unless youre superhuman, you cant fight what society has become. My boys are 14 and 16 and they eat junk away from home, where I cant stop them. I buy limited amounts of snack foods and live with constant abuse about how there's no food in the house, how much better other mothers feed their kids etc. My middle son is very active, but I cant pry the older one away from the playstation and both he and my younger daughter love healthy food and snack on fruit, yogurt etc but they eat TOO DAMN MUCH. They are constantly whining they are hungry - and believe me, that whining DOESNT stop after a few weeks - they graze throughout the day, want big meals, so even though they dont eat a lot of junk, they're both overweight. Then they go to friends houses etc and get fed utter crap there. I try, I really do, but in the end, you cant do it for them. I provide healthy food, opportunities for exercise, but really, I can sign my son up to the gym, but can I fight with him every single damn time to get him to come with me? Others can judge if they like, and its true, you can control a 2 year old and what they eat, but I find I've just lost the battle and they're going to have to tackle their own health problems as adults. I really tried!
  7. Same reason, surgeon said bc of hernia the reflux would cause problems.

    A little confused

When you start the soft foods, try picking items that have slightly higher calories at times. When you body receives the same calorie intake everyday, it tends to go into shut down mode because it gets used to the calories that it's being fed. When you shoke it a little by giving it a slighter higher calorie count once and awhile, it will start working again. At this stage in your weight-loss however it's all about the healing process. Don't be alarmed if you aren't losing weight like you did in the beginning and with your pre-op diet. The weight you have already lost is great. This stage you are in now is called "Banders Hell". Just stick to what your doctor told you to eat in portion size, drink your fluids, gradually increase your exercise and take things one day at a time. You might want to check your measurements because inches tend to come off faster than pounds do. Don't get discouraged. It will happen. Remember the biggest thing is, we didn't get this way overnight. It's not going to come off overnight either. Good luck to you.
  9. Mom to 3 rem how you fed your baby. Little at a time. You have a baby tummy. So sips during the recovery period.

    Harder than I Expected...

Im feeling that same pain! Out of the blue ill get this pressure i assume where my band is. Then it feels like i hate to hiccup. But i dont want to bc thatll hurt and ill just be taking in more air. Then its like i can make it into a small burp. But its painful. And i get it all the time. I hope it goes away soon :/
  11. I'm 4 weeks post op and have been re-admitted back into the hospital due to my Dr. finding 2 small blood clots on my lungs. I'm on day 6 now as I type this and was hoping to go home today. NOT!!! Dr. says maybe tomorrow. I'm just glad they were caught in time and thank God for getting me through this. The BCs are being aggressively treated and I'm just waiting on my blood to thin out. Still wondering how I got them as I was pretty active after my surgery. Now on to my 2nd issue. I am nauseous as hell. Found out that my pouch isn't emptying as fast as it should. WHAT IN THE SAM HILL IS GOING ON???? My surgery was in no way, shape, form or fashion as bad as this. In fact it was a piece of cake and seems like a blur. Plus my incisions have healed up nicely. I was only on pain meds the 2 days while in the hospital and its been smooth sailing up until 2 weeks ago when I started taking those awful Protein shakes. OMG!! I don't ever want to see another drink that starts with PRO. I tried several different kinds and they all made me nauseous. As for these minor setbacks, I would still recommend the surgery and this wonderful hospital that I'm in. From this day forward, I just want to feel normal again and out of harms way. I'm not trying to scare any pre ops away or anybody for that matter. This is my story and I was wondering if there are others who share my story.
  12. These are all great answers...I'll be doing the same thing...booking my trip to the beach for July 2017 where I'll be wearing a bikini bc it's the first year in 15 years that I won't be going FAT...yeah to us for the best health choice...even though I will miss eating steak and potato dinners with my husband at our favorite restaurant...lol
  13. Hi Yaya. I went for my routine check up and explained my that it was extremely painful to breathe and that my back (on the right side) was hurting as well. I thought I had pulled something because it hurt to lay on that side as well. Even to the touch it was painful. From that conversation I had to have bloodwork done and a CAT scan of my chest which showed the BCs and was immediately admitted.
  14. Omg. How I so relate to these posts as the tears flow down my cheeks. For 14 months and 50 lbs more I put off myself so I could give two chdren more, their needed haircuts not my own which was straggly my teens trip to Germany bc she may never get to experience this again, their very expensive Xmas present while i watched in sadness for myself, going without a bed of my own because it is unaffordable, no bf or adult companion to talk to, so much more. And being home for them more gave me the chance to be near the kitchen which was so readily tempting me! Gosh, when do I wake up and pay some attention to my own needs???!! But in my head like you all, I keep saying it's not my time yet, my life is on hold until my children are grown so my own happiness doesn't matter. So when does one choose to spend time money and attention to theirself.... Thank u for posting!

    Introducing Myself

I was a good dieter. I was better at putting it back on since age 14. I was tired of being the fat woman . I just got fed up at being fed. I was willing to give up volumes of food. I admit it isn't as fun as it used to be going to the grocery store. On the other hand I love my back fat being gone. You have to decide if you want to been smaller or eat 4 pieces of chicken at once. edie
  16. Thanks for sharing! My story is so similar to yours. I was scared to face my surgeon bc I thought I had failed. By the time I went back, my surgeon had been retired for years. I started off with a new one making aggressive folks and it worked. Unfortunately one two many times of throwing up bc of crazy restriction and I had a major slip. The bad was removed immediately. I thought I could do it by myself but eating just what doesn’t get stuck in the Band doesn’t translate to real life, sustainable eating. I gained it back this last year. I was sleeved on 10/22-almost 1 year exactly from my band removal.
  17. I can't believe it. 9/4 finished 6 month diet, 9/10 found out insurance approved, and today 9/11 got surgery date of 10/20. 9/24 I have to go for pre admin testing and 9/25 have nutritional class. I just can not beleive how fast this is all starting to move... It seemed like at the beginning of the 6 month diet I felt like it was going to take forever, then as I was ending the diet I was praying to just have surgery some time by the end of the year. Now, Holy Cow in just a little over a month I'm going to be banded.... I have BC/BS MI PPO, I thought for sure this was going to be more difficult. Did anyone else have a similar experience?? I think I'm still in a daze about it..
  18. wow...I have read the comments and I tend to agree ...I have a question or 2 IF you dont mind me asking or sharing I dont want to get into others business but since this is a learning question/answer support forum Im diving in...you can either answer honestly or just say its none of my or our business..1. you mentioned you have PCOS. I do have a niece with this also..it does an can contribute to the weight issue alot bc its hormonal. are you seeing a gyn or endocrinologists for this or being treated? and are they referring you to a WLS to have this done? have they mentioned maybe having a hysterectomy to remove/resolve this hormonal issue an then take supplimental hormones in replace of the ovaries? Is your dr treating this with bc pills..etc? Im sorry..I dont mean to pry...theres reasons why I am asking. I had PCOS from a very young age...I started gaining weight at 17...used bc pills several yrs..it took me a yr an half to get pregnant with both of my kids. I started getting soo sick in my mid 20s. Im over 50 now. I have had my share of yrs of yo yo if you wanna call it dieting..the more I dieted the bigger I got. my weight was up an down over 30 yrs. yrs ago when I reached 200 I had myself convinced I still looked good. but my body was breaking down fast. I didnt think I looked bad. I had a total hysterectomy in my middle 30s. then menapause them issues...then I couldnt hardly move joints, stiffness etc...15 yrs down the road I had developed over 12 differant dx...autoimmune disease, thyroid disease etx..now thyroid med for rest of my life.....2. is this not YOUR choice to have this WLS bc if not Im kinda confused of why your here? Im not being mean or judging just trying to help you ...with the top 2 issues you mentioned to begin with I get the idea it almost sounds like your limitaton of amount of food you would be able to eat BOTHERS you or you use food as a security blanket which most ppl do but there is also underlyning reasons WHY ppl eat an thats to calm oursleves down with comfort...but yet you made another comment you dont eat MASSIVE amounts...am I missing something here? and I have heard of plus size women wanting to stay plus size not only for their security blanket AND their hubs security. (not saying this is you guys) but let me tell ya something from my journey..I agree with others..I had myself convinced I wasnt that over weight for yrs! it was ok...this past yr I put on 50 pds from not eating what I thought wasnt much calories...WRONG!!!! I was brainwashed..I did it to myself..but I had to make my own personal desision I didnt ask my hubs or worry about him..this was MY health at severe risk an obese WILL cause BAD health issues if you dont have them now it will happen. I woke up one day an said IM DONE! NOT carrying around this FAT suit any more. trying clothes on was exhausting! clothes getting from 1x to 2x almost to a 3x..yes I was 100+ over weight! I am 5 months out an over 80 pds down now..I thought I knew myself. boy was I wrong..I am seeing my true self for the first time in my life. an I am loving it. I had been thru 10 yrs of therapy (talk therapy) I got to the underlyning issues..I knew it was my time and ready. you MUST be READY for YOU an NO ONE ELSE. an as far as loose skin..hell yea it might happen. but to me I told the hubs listen if I am doing this an I need a little help with some parts you bet Im having it done. thats not my worry for now. later I'll deal with it...one step at a time. but ya know, I want to be around to live with my hubs for as long as possible. this is your decision be absolutly sure going in ..if its others steering you here then it sounds like its something you dont really want. I made up my mind an with 5 months out I eat sensible I use the myfitnesspal an for my stomach size I do fine. I dont NEED food for comfort anymore. I eat to live not live to eat. plz dont get offended thats not my goal. best wishes hope you make the right choice for you an you only...but until you get the PCOS an hormones starightened out first an fixed Im not sure if this is right for you ...my thyroid had to be working right in order to have this done an work properly or it would have been useless...I got it addressed an fixed an it works appropriatly now.

Want to hear from those over 65

had my lapband last year at age 66, I am happy for the most part . I still think the band was the best choice for me. I did not want to have a large part of my stomach removed or re-routed at my age It is not the easy way to lose weight and it's a constant learning experience and reminder to eat slowly and small bites but the reward has been to get off of all of meds for diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure. I had medicare and BC and my surgery was paid for. I think if your BMI is below 40 you can still qualify for the surgery if you have other health issues . the surgeon's office will be able to tell you more about insurance than I can. I have a new lease on life and hope to continue without complications.
  20. My surgeon says just because the stomach is smaller doesn't mean there is an increased risk of the stomach lining being irritated. I believe in everyone following his or her own surgeon's advice, but I was relieved to hear this, bc I couldn't imagine life not being able to take NSAIDs!
  21. I just said a prayer for your mom. As they've said, u did good getting her help now, nd u need to help urself in case she needs u ltr. Don't feel guilty bc ur mom wudn want u too nd she'd feel bad knowing that u do. Just hang n there nd again, many prayers ur way:) Dee Dee
  22. Hi. Sorry it took so long to answer. I'm from norther BC but plan on my first fill Jan 27, 2009 at Grande Prairie as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I was banded in Mexico and Alberta and BC doctors that do fills will do them free of charge, regardless of where you were banded. (There may be an exception to this for the Eastern Canada trained Doctors willing to fill only Their own clinics patients, I'm not sure). Which part of Alberta are you from? There are quite a few that fill in different areas. Please let us know where. Hope this helps.
  23. Carbs are sliders. There is practically no restriction with those. You've just discovered why many people don't have success with this. I'm sorry you are going through this and I'm sorry to say it may get worse from here. I hope I can help- maybe not now but down the line. The reason you ate those things is because a person and a body can only white knuckle dieting for so long. Our bodies don't like being under fed. Your body took advantage of the situation to get some much needed fuel. You've lost so much so fast- you are in starvation state. That's what your bodies knows. Your body doesn't know you are under feeding it on purpose. I know you will go back to your post beach day diet. That's fine. But if you continue to have this issue I hope you will pm me. I can hopefully help you.

    Totally obsessed with WLS

Moni Luv, Your story is the same as mine to a tee (except the rocky marriage part). I'm am totally obcessed with having this surgery! BC/BS requires a 3 month supervised diet, so I'm doing that with the nutritionist. Two more agonizing months (middle of September) until my packet will even be submitted, and BC/BS is just now approving "some" sleeve sugeries. So, I don't even know if I will be rejected and have to appeal, which could mean how much more waiting?? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! I've been at this since March, when I tried to get into a seminar (went in June) which is what my surgeon requires before you have to wait one month for a consult. I've learned to tone it down, while talking with my husband. I can tell he tires of hearing about it, but I don't have one other person to share it with. That's one reason I feel I have to jump on this site and Obesity Help (I waste so much time looking through their before and after pictures and reading stories) it's like I have a thirst that I can't quench! I'm working on this obcession....in fact, I'm going out to work in the garden right now...byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
  25. I have a tentative surgery date of July 1st with Dr. Kurian too! Now, I just hope I get the approval from my insurance (BC/BS of NJ). Nilsa told me it is still too soon to submit to insurance. I'm scheduled to start fasting the 17th of June. It would not be fun to start the fast, and later find out that insurance denied me. In regards to insurance covering the psch eval and nutritional consult, my understanding is all insurance companies are different. Even if someone has the same insurance, each employer has different exclusions. Best of luck!
