    February 2021 Sleeve Surgery

Anyone out from the Feb 25th surgery? If so how are you feeling??? I had my revision on the 25th and dammit the pains
  3. As I'm approaching my revision surgery, I found this page fascinating to read because these are my fears - the future years with the sleeve since I failed with the band. I do have a question though - what is the 5:2 that you all keep talking about? Your stories have been inspiring and I hope I can be as successful as you. Lori

List of Band to Bypass Patients

I can't wait to hear responses on this thread. You perfectly articulated exactly what I have been thinking about too! I wonder the same things. Do you feel sharp pains in your band too? I do and it scares me when it happens. My revision surgery is scheduled for june 12th. Are u going to get completely unfilled ahead of time? I think im going to ask when I see my dr in may.
  6. Hey all you September Sleevers. How is everyone doing? I am 3 weeks PO today. Feel great! Back to the gym this am. I have been walking in the mornings since its so nice here in Tejas. (rare) So just did some cycling, and some arms. Tried not to do anything that would pull on the tummy. I am down 20 lbs. Which 7 was pre op diet. But happy. I know I will loose slower since I was revision. But if I can stay 20 lbs a month, I will be one happy camper. Lets all check in and see how everyone is doing now that we are on the loser's bench.

    Dr Mathew Fitzer

I am having a revision from Lapband to RNY. I have my preop appointment with him on the 29th so I should find out more then. I have not seen a nutritionist as of yet but it would be great if he had one in the office. I just bought a case of protein drinks from Costco - 30g per serving of protein and only 1g of sugar and 5g of carbs. I had to rely on protein drinks after my lapband surgery 5 years ago.
  8. It makes it easier talking to or meeting people that have had band to bypass revision...i only know one person who has and her and I have very similar "stories" and she LOVES the bypass and she looks great you would never know she was ever overweight at all and she also has never had any type of cosmetic surgery to remove skin or lift anything...i pray to god i look as good as her when im done lol
  9. Hi- i had by band in '04.... At 244 never lost more 40 pounds. Always chokes always puked. Got to point that i felt like i was drowning each night...i was too scared to sleep sometimes. Finally went to talk to my band surgeon to ask what options i had. He just said " what do u want from me.. I gave u what you wanted, to eatless why are complaining!" .... Ahhhh . I went straight away to the internet to look for my options. I was lucky to find that a top surgeon from Houston had returned home to Israel. It took me 4 months to get all the paper work sorted out. I had (at 282 pounds) the revision op plus gallbladder removal in the same op. i found the recovery good, not too hard . Now i feel , seven months out, great. 105 pounds down, fitter than i have ever been. The band was like a mediEVIL torture device!! It should be banned!! I feel like going back to the band surgeons waiting room and telling them of their options!!

List of Band to Bypass Patients

I was banded in January of 2009. I choose band over bypass then because I wanted something reversible and adjustable since I was planning on having another baby. I lost 40 pounds in the first year. Not stellar but good. Then I started having reflux. I got stuck on every food. I threw up or slimed every time I ate. I turned to slider foods and gained it all back. Every last pound and a few extra now reside with me I started to look into revision last year. I met with a new surgeon who took all the Fluid out of my band so the reflux would subside a little and so I could eat. I love the new surgeon! He told me he sees a lot of people like me. So I have my insurance approval but I had to schedule my surgery out in December so I cam finish school. I'm excited and scared. I know the recovery is worse with bypass but I'll be so happy to have this band out. I am excited to not feel like there's a ball constantly jabbed under my ribs. I'll be happy to eat with out being asked if I'm stuck again. Lots of luck to us all on the journey!

    Strictures post sleeve!!

To be quite honest, you can cycle through all the prescription ppis until you hopefully find something that works, but at the end of the day if nothing works and you continue to reflux the only option is to revise to Gastric Bypass. It's mess to be honest and my acid reflux is slowly going out of control si in a couple of years if none of the meds work I will need a third wls. For now if you're not on prescription meds for acid reflux get your hands on some asap.
  12. I'm you're twin same story please don't get discouraged with a revision the weight loss is good first 5 months then slows way down we are different than straight bypass people. ..
  13. I am 16 years out, had a revision that didn’t work. I went through all the motions as those whose surgeries were successful. Mine wasn’t. A dr there told me that I would only lose 40 lbs. He had no idea of the sacrifices I made. Instead of a revision, which took a waiting period of 14 months, I did not get it done. I regained weight after complications of another surgery. We regain weight for many reasons. So, I felt like the only one who left the hospital empty handed and sad. No one is stupid for trying to be healthier. I was so upset at this “another failure” that I decided to “reset” my mind instead of thinking about the stress of regain and revision. My driving force is what motivated me. These textbook doctors and nutritionists don’t know what’s in our head. They see you for 5 minutes, get their $300-$400, and I’m left to deal with this myself. Even my family doesn’t help very well. I decided that since the drs can’t help me, I’ll be damned if I’m going to fail myself. I’m going through the motions as if I’m a brand new patient, regardless of my hunger or very painful legs. I’m going to prove that jerk dr who told me that I would only lose 40 pounds. What an idiot. I lost weight before, regained and they can’t fix it. Well, I’ll start all over, no matter what it takes. If I binge on diet chewing gum to get through the food urge, fine. It is what it is. I know what I could have done better the first time around. We have another chance because I do not believe in failure, no matter what the circumstances are. Plus, I’m probably older than you, so now I’m told more bs about age. I’m going to prove them wrong, and I’ve already done searches like MyFitnessPal.com. We can’t do anything about the past, but we can control our future. I hope this helps you in some way. - Pam

    True Results-Houston

i was banded at true results houston on june 10 2011. I HATE my band and the nurses always piss me off. everytime i went it it seemed i had a pouch. so i would be put on a 2 week liquid diet, go back, and still had a pouch. after doing that for about 8 months i finally hit my breaking point and decided to start talking about revising to a sleeve. i have been absolutely miserable with my band, severe acid reflux, vomiting, you name it, i have it. i had all my liquid removed in november, and they sent me to dr holliss office in pearland to talk about revision. i just think it is funny though that before i got my band, they said nothing but negative things about the sleeve and bypass, yet now everyone i talk to that works at true results and dr holliss office say nothing but horrible things about the band. im like, why the hell didnt you tell me this before i got banded?? one of the PAs at TR even told me she had the band and wished she would have got the sleeve instead. its ridiculous. and it really bugs me that they never really talked about all the negative things that could happen with the band before surgery, they made it sound so easy and simple. basically, they are all full of sh99 and i advise ANYONE who has not been banded yet to run and get the sleeve!
  15. I haven't had mine done yet, but I am going from band to bypass on October 24, so I'll be right behind you. My office said it typically takes about 2.5 to 3 hours for a revision surgery, this wasn't directly from the surgeon's mouth though, just office staff, so I'll be sure to ask him at my next pre-op appointment. All I know, is I think this will be so much better for us than the band! If your experience from the band has been anything like mine, almost anything would be better
  16. Hi all. 9 years ago I had a gastric sleeve done by Dr Ariel Ortiz in Tijuana. I have since stretched out my sleeve and am looking into a revision. Has anyone had a revision through Dr Ortiz? Was it successful? Cost? Or if you used another Dr, would you recommend them? Was it successful? Cost?

    March 2019 sleepers

Hi all!! I was revised from VSG to RNY for severe GERD on 3/18. My pre-op diet weight was 251 and today it is 216.6. Weight loss has slowed and I’ve had a few stalls. Shark week sucks because I gain despite changing nothing. Slow and steady is better for my body but my mind doesn’t agree and that is a daily struggle. How are all the other VSG to RNY revisions doing?

What do you have for Thanksgiving?

My plan, subject to last min revision - I can't eat all of it, but I will certainly sample a bit of all except the rolls...I am serving for my mom, sister, dh and dd, and some co-workers... smoked turkey pepper crusted country ham mashed potatoes broiled green Beans with garlic sauteed mushroom with asparagus baked yams (still in their skins, with butter) yeast rolls turkey gravy pumpkin pie cherry pie
  19. I am one that does not tolerate a band well. I just have one problem after another. Band induced reflux that no drug resolves, esophageal spasms, now esophageal motility issues, my voice has been affected by the reflux, port pain, etc. I am just simply one that does not tolerate a band easily and this is something that could not have been known before I actually had a band and experienced it. I'm tired of fighting one issue after another so I'm considering a sleeve. I need to decide quickly because I either need to have my band removed or revise to a sleeve. I am pretty pro-sleeve, it has the fewest complications long term between bypass, sleeves, and bands. There is no aftercare, you get a sleeve and you are done. That sounds very appealing to me at this point.

This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

That's not fair, Plain. I pointed out stats and personal experience. If you like your band, kewl beans! I'm happy for you. If the band works for you that is fantastic. But I've been on the receiving end (on another board) when the band doesn't work and people who are fearful they will experience band problems tend to attack those who are having problems. Matter of fact, one person who has posted in this thread blasted me on another board and flat out told me I don't have a right to a revision surgery, it's as though you get one WLS in life and that's it. I was self pay both times. That was a wrong turn to take with me, I don't cower in a corner, I come out fighting. I have not had one single day since my revision was announced that I am not contacted by someone wanting information on revision. That's not what really shocks me, what shocks me is who is contacting me. People that are all pro-band on the boards and how life is so great with a band yet it's all bogus, they are PMing and emailing me asking about how to get ins to cover a revision because they can't hack it with a band anymore. You'd be shocked at who is wanting and getting revisions. These people are doing the same thing I was. I thought it was just me, I thought I was in the minority. I was pro band because I thought it did a good job for a lot of people, the majority of people. All newbies pretty much love the band. Those two years out have a different perspective many times. I belong to two band grad boards, one is for those banded one year or more. The other is for those banded one year or more and at goal. Both boards are similar, most are not happy with their bands and want to revise or have already revised. THAT is where people are honest. Inamed has been calling doctors trying to determine why sales are going down. They want to know if it is the economy or what. Doctors are telling them that they are as busy as ever doing revisions, sleeves, and bypass. They aren't buying bands because they aren't banding as many people as before. Various hospitals outside the US won't do any banding anymore, the country of Chile is doing away with banding completely and doing sleeves and bypass. It's not just me. If you are doing well, losing weight, you are healthy, not having major band problems then it should be pretty well impossible to piss on your joy. So don't you dare try and dump that on me, I'm not taking responsibility for your joy one way or another. You don't like the stats? Don't blame me, I'm not taking responsibility for that one either. This is R&R, if you only want raves then perhaps you can just read half the posts.

    Worst Case Scenarios

It's a great list for surgeries that go well, which is most of them! But, in cases where it goes wrong, not only is there the whole "risk of death" thing, but there are a bunch of other possible complications. Not that it's something to focus on pre-op, but if you really want to know what you could be getting into, best to cruise the complications forum. A leak could mean months in the hospital. A stricture could mean multiple procedures to dilate. Complications could lead to revision to another surgery. Just something to keep in mind when going over "worst case scenarios."
  22. my revision was done with just one surgery. my band was never fully emptied since my doctor didn't want to risk it slipping before surgery. i had about 3ccs in my band when i had my revision done. i didn't have to do a liquid diet at all before my surgery. i only had to do liquids for the 24 hrs before surgery.

    December Delights 2009

Ok.....confession time..... I have not been logging in for several months, mostly because I have not been losing weight for several months. Between my first and second fill (March) my port flipped and I had to have a revision surgery. I started getting so discouraged about the second surgery. Since then, I have not lost any weight. In fact, I have gained (to the point that I now weigh 2 lbs heavier than I did the day of surgery). I have some restriction but not enough to make me stop eating. I am really having a hard time staying motivated when I am not seeing any results. I am so happy for all you December banders who are doing so well. Does any one have any advice on how to make it through the rough spots? :cursing:

    December Delights 2009

stl - You are not alone. After 3 difficult fills (under flouro) and my restriction fading so quickly, my surgeon suspected an issue. Sure enough, my band flipped, and all the poking around to access it caused a leak. It was late March by the time we figured this out, and because my ins changed Jan2010, I had to pay cash for my port revision. I was not able to get the revision until late May. So I, too, feel way behind the game. I so much wanted to be under 300 by this time, and can't seem to crack 320. Having to revise all my goals was so disheartening, I stopping logging/graphing my weight. It has been a slow go to "get back on the wagon", since I has essentially been living like I didn't have the band from March until my revision. I'm still re-learning the "rules." I'm due for a fill - definitely have some restriction, but not enough. I had my first EVER sliming/PB episode and i was so happy! :tongue_smilie:At least I know my band is working and I'm figuring out my limits. I read the posts occasionally for inspiration. I know I will get there eventually - and so will you!
  25. So I got the call on Friday I was approved for RNY surgery. I feel like I have come a long way in the past few years. I originally had lapband surgery in 2011. My highest weight was 360lbs ( I think?) and around 336lb surgery day. I went as low as 259lbs in 6 months and that was it. My band was never adjusted in a way where I felt restriction. Then due to insurance and financial issues I left the first Dr I had. I had continous pain at port site and in my stomach. The weight slowly started to creep back on then more quickly. I gained almost every pound back. I felt like a failier and that I had wasted my chance. All the food that were healthy were the hardest to eat andI reverted to high cal slider foods. I had lost the mindset I developed that helped me lose the weight initially. So in Nov of 2012 I found a new doctor ( came highly recommended by several people) and had a consult. I spent almost a year after thinking about my decision. In June I started to see my private dr to do the required 6month appt and started to see my cardiologist and etc. (I had many cardio visits and tests due to a heart condition I had in pregnancy) Anyway in Oct 2013 I had my band removed. My new Dr is one of those who follow the practice of not doing a revision in one surgery. ( which, although I was disappointed was the best decision because I had tons on scar tissue) So after all that I am glad to say I was approved last Friday!! : ) I had my last pre op appoint today and tomorrow starts the liquid diet which I am so nervous about. I mean I guess I gotta do what it takes cuz my dr says he will not do surgery till I drop 20 lbs.It will most likely be in March. ( a week after my B day! ) I am looking forward to this new chapter and lifestyle but I still feel like I'm morning food instead of my old fat body ( and its inconveniences) SOO Anyway thats me...Any tips and advise would be more than welcome.
