    What did i do?

I had surgery the same date, and while I haven't tried Pasta, I have had a couple of bites of Beans, and about a quarter of a piece of chicken breast. The liquid stage that my doctor has me on is so long, and I see so many other sleeve diet plans that allow gradual progressions of foods after only two weeks. Today so far I have had yogurt, chicken broth, and four spoon full of refried beans with cheese. The beans are not supposed to be for another five days, but so far so good.

    pre-op

I second the kudos for sticking with it! But if the point is to shrink the liver, am I correct in assuming that you can only have sugar free/low fat yogurt and low fat cottage cheese? The sugar and the fat content is what makes the liver "fatty."

How Longs Is Your Pre-Op Diet?

Three weeks with the day before surgery being all liquids. I'm in my third week and 18 lbs down so far. My diet does give me 3 oz of protein, 2 cups veggies, a pack of oatmeal, 6oz of yogurt, and a sugar free jello with two shakes. I'm worried about my liver b/c I've eaten more than 3 oz of protein on the weekends (more like 8 or 9). Sat and Sun are HARD

    One week post op!

Everyone's different I guess. I believed that too until in hospital they were giving me pudding and yogurt

    Baby Food

I'm surprised! I was allowed only chicken broth and sf jello for week one. I could include smooth yogurt (no fruit bits) and cottage cheese in week two. That was all, till week 3 anyway! I am 6 years out. I've lost 190 lbs., most all of it within first 21/2 years. My ideal is 10 lbs less than I am now, but I have kept off the weight and that 10lbs just keeps me on my toes!

    Eating too much

I find that heavy protein meals (ground turkey, meat, and fortified Greek yogurt) tend to make me feel fuller fast. Foods that have simple carbohydrates seem to "slide" right through my stomach and I can eat a larger volume. There are several discussion threads on here about slider foods. The best thing is to experiment and figure out for your body what fills you up and meets your nutrition goals and which foods should be avoided because they lead to over eating.

    Pump the Brakes!

My nutritionist wanted me to aim for 100g a day right away, but I didn't realistically get there probably until I was on solid foods. It's pretty easy to get 100 grams if you do a couple bars or shakes a day and make sure you are doing protein first with every snack or meal. I would say, once I was on solids, my day looked something like this: Breakfast: Bar or shake (~20 grams) Morning Snack: String cheese (8 grams) Lunch: about 3 oz. of meat, usually leftover from a previous dinner (16-20 grams) Afternoon Snack: Greek Yogurt (12 grams) Dinner: about 3 oz. of meat (16-20 grams) Evening Snack: Bar or Shake (~20 grams) Now I can usually get closer to 4-5 ounces of meat in at once and I can get some carbs in, like I put kashi Cereal or granola into my yogurt. I also haven't been doing the string cheese in the morning lately and just get another Protein Bar in somewhere during the day.

    BE kind granola

As an occasional treat I will add 1/3 cup of the high Protein Kind granola to my greek yogurt. I make sure it fits into my days carb allowance. I am 8 months out and didn't add granola until around 7 months.
  9. Hi, I'm almost 4 weeks post op and I am trying to figure out ideas on foods to eat and Snacks to have, especially at work. I've been on Protein shakes, greek yogurt, cheese stick, I've also had chicken & fish. Ineed more options. Thank you Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

    What is everyone eating?

At your stage my surgeon had me drinking milk only for a snack. Food i was eating cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, cream of wheat, I was also allowed pureed meats and eggs but they did not agree with me at that stage so i live on yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes until i hit the soft food stage.

    How many ounces?

I wish i could eat that fast. :-) this morning it took me like 45 min to do 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt. I have been trying to go show bc after like every bite i get purpy and a little chest pain. The pain eases as soon as i burp or my tummy gurggles, but it's uncomfortable so i am going slow. I had to warm my 1/2 cup of soup up 3 times last night Lol
  12. I've wondered the same thing. I'm still struggling to eat slow and I'm not tolerating soft foods as well as I thought. I'm going back to my cottage cheese and yogurt tomorrow.

    Portion Size Progression

If I drank my whole bottle of protein water, that would give me 40g of protein. But my NUT last time I saw her told me to only try drinking half a bottle each day. She really wants me to try getting in most of my protein through food. I eat yogurt every morning for breakfast, but that’s it. I don't know what to eat with it. I'm going to ask my NUT for suggestions when I see her next week. I don't like the texture of cottage cheese. I usually eat 3 times a day (every 4 hours) but I think I can stretch that out to 4 for now.
  14. Does anyone else have this restriction during full liquid stage? It says I can have sugar free or plain yogurt with

    night time snacking

I have a hard time at night, too. I plan for one snack, and try & hold out as long as I can to have it. I have either an Atkins bar, Greek yogurt or popcorn. But there have been times when I eat two things instead of one. But I seem to do that on days where I know I have a lot of leftover calories. I guess, in my mind, I justify it. If I'm really feeling compulsive, I'll have my whatever snack, and head for the tub. A long soak in nice hot bath seems to take the charge out of it Plus....it passes time & then I'm ready to climb into bed. Whatever diversions you can create for yourself, do it

    Pre-op jitters

    1. I don't cook much. Neither do I. I get a lot of pre-cooked meats from Trader Joe's and frozen veggies. I also used things like cans/pouches of tuna and salmon, canned sardines and mackerel, bags of peeled and hardboiled eggs, cartons of yogurt, string cheese, etc. There is no rule that says you have to become a gourmet cook! I can't be bothered. 2. I work at night and the options for ordering in are limited. I realize it will be better to bring my food most of the time anyway, but as I said - I don't cook much, so this will be new. Get some tupperware type containers. Add in a few ounces of meat (pre-grilled chicken breast, packet of flavored tuna, etc.), an ounce or two of thawed frozen veggies, and a tablespoon of salad dressing. shake. Or bring in yogurt or a hardboiled egg (you can buy bags of hardboiled eggs at Trader Joe's and other places). If you don't want to turn your life into slaving over a stove, don't! 3. I've never been one for chewing my food thoroughly. I tend to swallow my food in large quantities and one reason that accompanies that, though certainly not an excuse, is that my teeth aren't great. If there is any way you can, start working on getting your teeth fixed. Just as a general rule, this will be great for your overall health. If you can't do that, then at least practice taking in smaller quantities. Your teeth should not be too much of an impediment there. One additional reason you may want to look into getting your teeth taken care of -- many surgeons and anesthesiologists will not do any elective surgery on someone with a tooth infection or a loose tooth. So if those are issues for you, you may *need* to get them taken care of before your surgery, and preferably as much before the surgery as possible. 4. I have an over 2 liter a day of Diet Coke habit. I actually think I can kick this one This isn't a "think I can kick this one" item -- this is a "I will kick this one." It isn't optional . . . start practicing good mental habits now as well as good physical habits. Don't debate with yourself whether you can make the changes necessary. Tell yourself it isn't up for discussion and come up with a plan as to how it will happen. 5. I love food!!!! - I feel like I'm giving up my best friend, but it does feel similar to other addictions and I do want to be healthy. I can see myself in a new lifestyle regarding food - though, for me, it will mean changing everything. I think that's true for everyone here! We can all relate. We all love food and had to change how we expressed and indulged in that love. So make the best use possible of your medical team as well as resources like this forum and hopefully we can all learn and change together. Good luck!

    I AM A CONVENIENT EATER

I'm a baker, not a cook so I still eat mostly convenience foods. Protein shakes, yogurt, Jerky, soups, etc. during the day. I cook a healthy dinner for the family every night and that's pretty much the only time I put effort into food prep. I'm very fortunate that my hunger is all but gone so I don't have an urge to snack anyway. Every now and then I'll cook an egg for b'fast but at 3 months out I still can't eat a whole one. I hate wasting food so it's just easier to dink a shake.

    I AM A CONVENIENT EATER

Oh heck yeah, I can totally relate. I was really worried about it before surgery too. I had made some small changes and lost some weight. I have been off reg AND diet sodas for almost a yr now. But I was still a fast food type person for the convenience, as well as the "gotta have it now" mentality. I didn't plan ahead and keep things on hand or prepare meals ahead of time. And that hunger I used to have, where I didn't wanna even take the time it required to cook before i shoved it in my mouth. But the sleeve has helped that, I don't get the omg I am starving, get in my belly NOW, feeling. I get a sort of empty feeling and kinda go by what time I ate last to confirm it is actually real hunger, not head hunger or acid. But I have to admit, I do mostly easy/convenient type foods at home. Cause to be honest, I don't know any other way of life,so I think as long as it's a good protein source and all, it's ok. I don't do the protein shakes as much, but I really like the taste and convenience of boiled eggs now. So I boil half a dozen or more at a time, to have on hand to eat, or to add to tuna/chicken salad, or make egg salad with. I've been babysitting this wk, and having to get up and leave WAY earlier than I am used to, so I have been taking my boiled eggs, cottage cheese, cans of tuna and chicken, my diet green teas, so I will have the ability to keep up with my protein. I use greek yogurt a lot not just cuz of convenience but it's high in protein and makes meat go down so much easier if I make it into dips. I add it to the tuna/chicken/egg salad. I use it in place of sour cream. I do string cheese and other cheeses a lot to add more protein to stuff. I will also take a whole bag of the frozen chicken breasts and put in the crock pot before bedtime, then the next day I divide it up into small portions and use some for chicken salad, some to dip in greek yogurt/w/ranch mix. I really like the hidden valley fiesta ranch mix. Or I will use other sauces and flavors like BBQ sauce, teriyaki sauce, white sauce (the kind that goes on bbq and smoked chicken) etc. to kinda change up each meal. You do have to watch the sauces for sugar and stuff, but some have fewer carbs than others. But I do eat a lot of chicken. lol. I like how the crock pot will make meat tender and fairly moist, I hate dry meat. But anyway!!! You are not alone!! And you have done a fabulous job losing 45 lbs pre-op, congrats!!! It seems to me, you are doing a good job of preparing yourself mentally for the sleeve and making positive changes. Give yourself some credit, and I am working on becoming more of a real cook, but until i master it, as long as I do protein first, I ain't gonna worry too much about it. The sleeve really does make it easier to stop and think and plan meals out, so you have that to look forward to!!

    Not Losing :(

The sample I will need to follow after my surgery is as follows: breakfast - 1/4 - 1/2 cup of cottage cheese low fat or yogurt am snack - 1 cup of Protein Shake with skim milk lunch - 1/4 - 1/2 cup of cottage cheese low fat or yogurt pm snack - 1 cup of Protein Shake with skim milk dinner - 1/4 - 1/2 of strained cream soup or cottage cheese This is the post op diet with plenty of protein that my doctor gave me and make sure your broth is low sodium. As you can see protein is key, if you try this for one day you will see results.
  20. Well here I am! One week post-op and I can't believe I'm already here....I don't feel banded but I definitely feel the pain of my incisions and the changes in my body. A few things I've noticed that I'm wondering about you guys... 1. I feel bloated. Constantly. I don't feel these "gas pains" everyone talks about?! I belch often. My incisions are painful. But I don't have gas pains? I just feel bloated. Allllll the time. 2. I've lost my hunger sensation. Physically I don't feel hungry. Emotionally, I do. I've just transitioned to my full liquids stage and am allowed SF pudding, FF tomato/cream soups, broth, protein shakes, jello, and yogurt. I am having a hard time with the non-liquids. I ate a lot out of feeling like "well I don't have anything else to do," or "I didn't have dinner," or "I need to try that flavor of yogurt," etc. that's my food addiction and it scares the crap out of me. I know it was just one bad day but I'm only one week post op and I'm already feeling like a failure. Should I go back to liquids? Idk what to do. 3. Do many of you use myfitnesspal? I have a few friends on there from this forum but would like more. My username is westcomk. I think it's nice to have benders on there! 4. I'd like to share recipes if anyone's interested. For instance, I realized my favorite Campbell's tomato soup has 12...TWELVE grams of sugar per 1/2 cup. So I found a sugarless homemade recipe tonight that I'm going to try. Does anyone have any good low sugar soups they like? Thanks for listening everyone. Maggie

    What's for Breakfast?!

I usually eat yogurt or cottage cheese. Sometimes I'll throw a few blueberries on the cottage cheese (like maybe 10 of them)

    Soft food ideas

Just be careful. I LOVED liver cheese pre-op. Post-op it is a bit fatty for me. I don't specifically limit fatty foods but have found that foods with a higher fat content are not as appetizing as they once were and can make me a little woozie. Just go slow and see how well you handle it.If I recall, livercheese is by Oscar Mayer, right? Square piece with white fat around the edge? What I purchased is nothing like that. These are the ingredients: Ingredients: beef, beef liver, beef kidneys, beef heart, Water, sea salt, onion powder, white pepper, coriander, marjoram, all spice beefliverwurst12406.jpg With that being said, I absolutely plan on taking it slow, my new stomach may or may not like it. Was just excited to realize there is something else I can try during that stage that is healthy. Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App That isn't a lot of protein. You may want to try to find things with a bigger protein punch. I lived on/live on Greek yogurt and cottage cheese.

I Did Something Very Stupid Today

I have a "car pack" that travels with me. It has a small pack of almonds, some Peanut Butter crackers (I don't low-carb), a Protein bar--careful if your car gets super warm--and some spoons so I can run into a store and grab a yogurt or some Soup, since lots of places now carry ready-to-eat soup. I have experienced that frazzled, really-not-myself feeling many times, and they are ALWAYS tied to times when I don't eat properly. Having a sleeve sometimes means you don't feel hunger, or you don't feel it in the same way, so definitely stock your purse or your car (I also have a couple of things in a desk drawer at work) to avoid having the crash. Don't forget that good old vending machine peanuts will work in a crunch (ha!), as will a cheese stick or beef Jerky from a convenience store if your sleeve tolerates them (cheese yes, jerky no for me). Glad you're feeling better, and now you know!!

Cereal and the Lap Band ?

I agree that most cereals probably aren't a good idea (nutrition wise) but I have seen a lot of high fiber/high Protein ones out now. Personally, cereal and I do not like one another now (and I used to love it). I don't know if it swells up like bread or what but I am very uncomfortable eating cereal. I can do granola w/ my yogurt in small quantities though. I do better w/ the crunchy varieties.
