When did you start exercising?
alwaysvegas replied to krissy202001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
cardio after one week post-op, weights one month post-op after surgeon's clearance. not advancing as fast as others?! 3weeks post op

It's not uncommon to feel that way. Especially if you had a challenging post op experience initially. Hopefully as the weight comes off that feeling changes for you. -

Anxiety post surgery anyone?
JustWatchMe replied to aries477's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope. WLS was absolutely the best decision for me. It's hard but living obese was so much harder. You can do this. Just surround yourself with support and keep to the program. Once the weight starts coming off you'll feel better. I did! -
I am 18 months out, well past goal weight and in maintenance, and I still don't eat 1000-1200 calories per day. There is no way I would have lost weight eating that many calories, sadly. Is that the amount your doctor told you to increase your calories up to? 800 was the maximum number we were allowed to still be in weight loss mode. I eat about 900 per day now, in maintenance. I hope things improve for you soon!! Good luck!

How tall are you? I'm thinking a few things. 1) My mom was always thin and when she turned 50 she started gaining weight because of menopause. She cannot eat more than 1,000 calories or she gains. She is only 5'3 though. 2) Very good point made above about sodium. Try cutting out as much processed food as possible and see if the swelling subsides. 3) My older coworker exercised with a personal trainer and watched what she ate but never lost any weight until they found the right combination of pills that helped her body with the Water it was retaining. Now she is dropping weight relatively easily. My point is medication can cease or disguise weight loss due to swelling. Keep up the good work! You will get there. Going in for my 6 month post op appt tomorrow...AGAIN...with No weight loss what so ever...1 lb loss in the last 3 months is it. Am getting so frustrated with no help at all from this band yet. So many who have had surgery the same time as me are already at 50 to 70 lbs lost ... and me a whopping 35 lbs. With such little results it makes it so hard to even try and keep going. This is just not at all what I was expecting it would be like or maybe I am just not apparently there yet. I just figured by 6 months out I would have been well on my way...I would find this magical green zone by now and finally have the help I needed. But I got nothing ...yet... at least I hope it is still coming. I am eating right, healthy and from my tracking program doing well according to that too...I am not getting "all " the Protein in as I have been shy on that a bit..usually around 5o grams or so. Dont know if that is my issue or what. My question is...and I do know that we are all different so really this has no bearing...BUT... is there anyone out there who has also not had any help from their band yet this far out and how long did it take you....I just dont know how much longer I am going to be able to keep it up with no results...I dont want to be one of the ones it dont work for because I am giving it my all. I appreciate any and all replies

I know exactly where you all are coming from. Today is my 4 month bandiversary, and just one week ago, after 6 fills (and a wonderfully agressive fill dr) did I finally get to my sweet spot! I for the first time in my life don't care about food. I kept reading other people say that, and thought "Well they may experience that, but I doubt I ever will." Knowing you are at your sweet spot truly is only something you can experience. People can explain it to you all you want, but I personally didn't believe it would ever happen-or for that matter even comprehend how "sweet" it is, until it happened to me. My advice is to continue being VERY patient, and if you are still hungry...not restricted...and able to eat regular amounts at each meal-be agressive and ask for those fills! My theory is that time is of the essence (since statistically most people lose the largest amount of their weight in the first 6-12 months). Hang in there

How can I accelerate weight loss?
GACaldwell replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it SUCKS to have the weight loss slow down..but thats normal and healthy! As others have said keep working your plan. You can start working on toning if you're cleared for exercise though and that may make a bigger difference in what you see/feel than the numbers on the scale. -

How can I accelerate weight loss?
skinnyjeansatlast posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am seven weeks out but only 26 pounds down (out of a total 75 pounds that I need to lose). I'm frustrated - the weight is crawling off at a very slow pace. I am happy that I am moving in the right direction, but definitely thought that I would have lost more weight by now. I have an important event coming up in a couple of weeks and would like to do whatever is safely possible to accelerate my weight loss. Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations/insights? Thank you very much. -

Nervous Scared and Happy Scared
Remix replied to kaysunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a personal decision and yes, a scary one. It's natural to question if it's right to do so don't let that deter you. I only told 2 people of my surgery because I knew others would try to talk me out of it. I was scared a heck!! I flew to Mexico alone to get the surgery! Now that was frightening!! However I felt that my weight was robbing me of my happiness and not having the surgery was a scarier option. I'm 5 weeks post op and I know that it was the best thing I've done for myself. I feel free from the shackles of obesity!! I am happy! I feel good about myself. I am proud of myself! If you arent sure about surgery, talk to your doctor and do your research. Decide for yourself if it is right for you. If you honestly know that this is the right thing for you, don't let others opinions or your own fears stop you. -
What happend during your 1st consultation?
Moni_0330 replied to Megan00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During my first consultation with the surgeon, he asked me a bunch of questions regarding my past efforts with trying to lose weight. He asked about my support system, my reasons for wanting the surgery, and he asked my ideal weight. We also discussed my goal weight based on my body type. The bulk of the session was the opportunity for me to ask questions. Here are some of the things i asked the doctor that may be good to bring up. 1. How soon after the surgery would I be able to start trying to get pregnant? 2. What are the risks/complications and the chances of them occurring? 3. What are the stages of the approval process and what classes/doctors appointments will i need for approval? 4. What is the average amount of weight a person my size would lose in 6 months after the surgery? 5. Why is gastric sleeve better/worse than other procedures...lap band/gastric bypass/etc? 6. What is the recommended goal weight that I should ultimately reach based on my body type? 7. What exactly happens during the procedure and how long will it last? 8. How many years experience does the surgeon have and how many patients has he lost during the operation and why? (this is a pretty hard question to ask, but i did so that i would at least know. My doctor has lost 2 patients but they were almost 500 pounds, high risk, and had multiple commorbidies and were going to die if they did not have the surgery). Since I am a low risk patient, he assured me that he had done thousands of surgeries and that i would be fine. Good luck to you!! -
I'll bet you are having doubts. Getting so close to your date and in the hospital....just not for the planned reasons......and not for anything that you've directed or were in control off. This is not at all what you were gearing up for....not what you were wanting. You are most likely exhausted and unable to get any semblance of rest. Hard to think clearly under circumstances like this. I see that you are working mighty hard on your weight loss...79 lbs already. I hope that you can heal up.....get well.....get rested and then be able to put everything into perspective and move forward in the direction that you want to go.

Severe back pain after weight loss?
crazyplantlady replied to stephenmarksarro's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some back pain after losing 30-40 lbs. Body isn't used to holding up the different frame and the different weight on it. I used icy-hot Patches, and slept on a heating pad. Helped a lot. Before surgery I used aleve for pains like these, but no NSAIDS after surgery, so I used tylenol. Tylenol on its own didn't help me much, but alongside the patch and pad, it helped (I think). -
Feel free to share your feelings. That's part of what this support forum is all about. I had the Sleeve, but 3 of the ladies I work with had bypass. They are 2, 5, and 11 years out. We are all happy with the outcomes and the weight we've lost. I don't think you can go wrong with either surgery. Get my free eBook - The Top 10 WLS Fears and How to Kick Their Butt!

4 Week Update (the dreaded stall)
LipstickLady replied to vinniej3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A few days with no loss does not a stall make. My weight loss since surgery has averaged out at about 8-10 pounds a month at three months out, so while 20 is an awesome thing to hope for, do not get upset if it's not reality. Congrats on your awesome success so far! You are doing fantastic. -
First week post vsg- almost no weight lost
glitter eyes replied to Believe16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people either don't lose or even gain the first few weeks. I was nine pounds heavier the first week. I didnt really start losing until about week three. Just try and ignore the scale for a few weeks and focus on hydration, protein, walking, and getting plenty of rest while you heal. Good luck!! -

When did you start losing weight post op?
FocusOnMeNow replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost weight every single day for several weeks post op. Many people actually gain "weight" after their hospital stay. But it is literally "water weight". They pump you full of fluids before you go home to try to prevent dehydration because many of us have SO much trouble getting all our fluids in the first few days. In 99% of the time I say follow Drs advice it is for a reason. That is probably the reason. You definitely want to weigh at least once a week. By the time you are a week out much of that extra fluid should have come off. I weighed every morning for weeks or possibly months on end, and it was a really fun ride. I'm 9 months out and only losing 1-2 lbs per week now, but very happy with the resultS[emoji4] -
7 months Post Op and about to enter panic mode!
vsginkc replied to luvinthanumi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're NOT going backwards! Your weight loss has been incredible! To the extent you have been off the wagon, now you gotta get back on the horse!! You know what to do.... Less carbs, more protein, make sure you are getting your water in. Cut out any sugar you're eating. It's just like in the beginning (where I am!!!) - once sugar goes in, cravings start. Once you get the sugar out of the system, the cravings subside. YOU CAN DO THIS! (And, you're doing great! Don't be too hard on yourself!) -

Clock ticking on making goal?
Jennifer4775 replied to JamieLogical's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JamieLogical, I can't add my experience to help answer your question because I am new to this. Only 3 weeks out from surgery. But I do want to add that I've always enjoyed your posts. They are intelligently written and to the point. You actually responded to one of my questions earlier on and it really helped me. You seem to have a pretty good head on your shoulders and in my opinion will do fine with whatever this sleeve throws out at you. I seem to be loosing weight a lot slower than I expected (a phase in which I'm trying hard to get over) and I know you can relate. Good luck to you after the "honeymoon" phase!
